I am going to have to take some time to start another book , I loved DARK AND SHALLOW LIES. And need some time for a breather.
I too, am glad Stephen King is still writing. I wait anxiously for the next book every time. I do enjoy the short stories and novella’s as well. Sometimes they lead to a movie etc. I think my next book is going to be Stephen Kings new book BILLIE SUMMERS.
Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong? How about everything.
This spectacular can’t-put-it-down novel is part war story, part love letter to small town America and the people who live there, and it features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who set out to avenge the crimes of an extraordinarily evil man. It’s about love, luck, fate, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption. You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.
This one back to being a huge book. Could do arm exercises with it. Weighs a ton. None of that laying down in bed reading this one.
I have been googling Stephen King’s and Richard Chizmar’s Gwendy’s Button Box 3 book serial. It is strange but had never heard of 2 and 3. Will let you know later when I figure it all out.!!
Winter is a great time to get into a big book and enjoy the longer nights with a cup of hot chocolate, glass of wine whatever you enjoy. A warm fleece blanket and Time!!
WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Gwendy's Final Task
Release Date: February 15th, 2022
When Gwendy Peterson was twelve, a mysterious stranger named Richard Farris gave her a mysterious box for safekeeping. It offered treats and vintage coins, but it was dangerous. Pushing any of its seven colored buttons promised death and destruction.
Years later, the button box entered Gwendy’s life again. A successful novelist and a rising political star, she was once again forced to deal with the temptation that box represented. Now, evil forces seek to possess the button box and it is up to Senator Gwendy Peterson to keep it from them. At all costs. But where can you hide something from such powerful entities?
In Gwendy’s Final Task, “horror giants” (Publishers Weekly) Stephen King and Richard Chizmar take us on a journey from Castle Rock to another famous cursed Maine city to the MF-1 space station, where Gwendy must execute a secret mission to save the world. And, maybe, all worlds.

With the holidays I was reading easy quick reads. But now am tired of them. Will box the paperbacks up and donate them , some to my friend who has a big book porch in front of her house. It stays busy which is surprising as she lives fairly close to the library. Guess maybe they like it cause they do not have to mask etc. at the library. mostly kids books but she got requests for some romance paperbacks. so they can have mine. Some will go to the library sale next year and some go to Good will. no donations at the nursing home right now. think they were over whelmed with them. Everyone down sizing lately.
WHAT ARE YOU READING??

I am not familiar with Richard Chizmar so of course I had to look him up. He and King published GWENDY'S BUTTON BOX in 2017. Chizmar did a follow up in 2019, with an introduction by King. I think I will see if the library has anything by Chizmar I can check out. I really liked the King and Straub collaborations THE TALISMAN and BLACK HOUSE. I enjoy Peter Straub too, have to say JULIA is my favorite, FLOATING DRAGON my least favorite. Finished IF IT BLEEDS. I liked all the entries. He does make me turn those pages. Back to Donna Leon, I am on number 12 in the series, I think, UNIFORM JUSTICE.

I have gotten into all of the previous Colson Whitehead books I have read, but I find my mind wandering with HARLEM SHUFFLE. Haven't given up yet.

I am back to THE ARGONAUTIKA and I picked up from my basement bookcases an ancient copy of Edith Hamilton's MYTHOLOGY, originally published in 1940. I am pretty familiar with Greek myth but this time I'm reading it all the way through, since I'm doing all this ancient Greek reading, to get my gods, goddesses and heroes straight.
When I have a library ebook I feel like I have to read it every minute in case I run out of time. Then my other reading falls by the wayside. But I have finished my library books for now.

I'm still here, Connie! I am reading my way through Sigrid Nunez and am rereading The Friend, her National Book Award winner. She is a writing teacher's writer...not for everyone! I am also finishing up Lillian Ross' book about her relationship with the New Yorker magazine and the editor of the magazine at the time. I picked it up when I was working at the library book sale and have been reading it a bit before I go to sleep. I tried Hannah Pictaird and didn't like her books. So, I haven't had a lot to offer lately!
Iani: I still have my old Edith Hamilton book. My grandkids all love Greek Mythology. I taught it many moons ago and loved teaching it. I revisited the Greek Tragedies a few years ago and love those, as well. I took a class from a retired University of Michigan professor. It was a fabulous class.

woolworker, yes, I read AGAMEMNON and enjoyed it, then bogged down on THE LIBATION BEARERS. But I will finish it and the last one eventually. It certainly helps to have a good translation.

I'm reading Katie Couric's autobiography and "The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen." Both are pretty good reads.
I got an abridged copy of Winston Churchill's "History of the English Speaking Peoples" but haven't really gotten into it yet.

I just finished DARK AND SHALLOW LIES. Thank you, Connie, for this recommendation. I really liked it and did not see that ending coming!
Right now I am reading WISH YOU WERE HERE by Jodi Picoult. It is set in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, and about an ambitious young woman who gets stranded on Isabela Island in the Galapagos Island by herself when the island goes on lockdown. Has anyone read it?
