Ruth, ah the wonderful smell of cinnamon rolls in the oven! Do not think I have made them in 2 years, cause if I did make them I would eat them. Ha ha ha. But the way the house smells when you make them is incredible. Think you are spot on to make the shawl triangle scarf size. I do know some who use a shawl similar to a scarf and creatively wrap them around their neckline…oh boy did I word that poorly…..but it is good that you are almost done with that and can move onto other projects. You sure are busy with a crochet hook.
if I had to get a new threshold I should be able to install it myself of with Ds’s help cutting it.If I had to hire someone I would…but am reasonably sure based upon the way this one is installed, that I would be able to handle it myself.

Good morning all. It's still morning here but barely. It's a nice warm day too.
Ginny,I've watched my dh and ds install a lot of floors and thresholds but I'm not sure if I would do it correctly if I tried it. You are one talented woman! The cinnamon rolls do make the house smell great but also the smell lingers on me too...until shower time.
Well I'm not close to being done with the triangle scarf after all. I found that I had not paid enough attention when watching the video. While crocheting it I thought to myself that it would be nice if the "windows" were in all parts of the shawl. Well they are supposed to be. I somehow missed that.So it all got ripped out to close to the beginning. It did look ok the way it was but even better the way it's supposed to be. Luckily it goes fast. Fairly fast anyway. At least I'm getting plenty of practice doing the dc chainless foundation as that's used on every row to make the "outcropping'

Hello Phyl - I'm sorry to hear about your continued health problems and hope the doctors can help you get some relief. Ginny - Hope the carpeting is going well and that you don't get much (or any) of the bad weather that looks like it's headed to the east coast on Sun-Mon. Ruth - I'm sure your cinnamon rolls are good. Sorry you had to rip out so much of that scarf, hope you can get it going again soon. Sue - Hope you are doing well. After a cold day a few days ago, it's been in the 40s. I'm hoping that snow will miss my area this weekend or at least if we get it then we don't have any ice. I finished the second block for the Sweet Dreams quilt along and after looking at the 2 blocks I've made so far, I really don't like them. The fabric is pretty, but it's just kind of "blah" looking to me. I don't want to make this whole quilt, and participate in this quilt along until May and not be happy with what I'm making. So I pulled some other fabrics and I've been looking at them for a few days. I finally decided to go with a Lighthouse theme and I hope the fabrics I pulled will work for that. I'm also going to use some panel blocks (lighthouse) to add into this quilt in place of a patchwork block. So I'm happier about this and I'm anxious to get the first 2 blocks remade and see what I think. I may still do blocks with the other fabrics, but I'm not sure. I really hope I have learned my lesson about buying fat quarter bundles I know I'm much better off just buying a layer cake or jelly roll for fabric lines that I like. Hope all of you are doing well and getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ, as crafters, we all have learned a lot of lessons on buying and other aspects of our craft. So now you bought a fat quarter bundle and know it didn't suit your purpose. I do agree that if you make a couple blocks and you don't like them that you should just put those aside and work on something that is more enjoyable.
Thank you for your comment on my ripping out my scarf. I watched the video again and I think that now I'm on the right track. Following a video is not really my learning style. I usually watch and write the directions down then follow those. It's great, though, to have a video available when you don't understand what they mean in a written pattern. Many people use certain terms to mean something other than what the term is actually supposed to mean.
I was doing some cleaning and cooking but then dh went back to bed as he wasn't feeling well so I stopped. I'm waiting for the doctor's office to call back regarding blood work that he needs then we'll make an appointment for him to see her. She's always appreciated that we had her order labs prior to a visit so she could discuss the results with us in person. I did call yesterday but didn't get a callback so I left another message today. When a person calls there they never get an actual person just voicemail

CJ- that is great that this early in the game you figured out that you are not happy with that fabric line before you got too far into working with it. Some fabric lines are SO very lovely and others only a few fabrics work for individual taste. I remember working on the BOM with Jane- we were both given the same line of fabric but given free reign to use that fabric as we see fit. I know from my quilt and hers that while they have similarities they are very different, based upon our personal fabric choices. Hope that when you remake those 2 blocks you are super pleased with them and really want to continue with your current plan. I have not paid enough attention to the weather regarding the Sunday/Monday storm. It seems to be a system in flux and they are not sure what will happen when it reaches the coast. Hope for you that it is not a big snow or rain maker and that you can enjoy a nice weekend quilting.
Ruth, that is nice that your doctors office will call in for bloodwork, as it does cut down on the amount of work if you have the bloodwork done before the appointment. I pray that Dh feels better very soon and that his bloodwork is within normal range. To me, its always a shock when you call, get through to voice mail but then get the callback you were looking for. Had that happen in December when I went for addditional eye tests….and heard nothing. I called and was surprised to get a call back the next day with my test results that everything was ok. Like you, I write down the directions from youtube videos. The videos are nice to illustrate how things are supposed to look, but I find them SO frustrating if they are too wordy or waste time with unnecessary information. I am so very sorry that you have much to rip out on DGD’s shawl. The saving grace is that its a pattern that you really like and that its an easy pattern to work with. I bet it be so lovely and that DGD will love it!!! Love how you are looking at the bright side and seeing that you can get more practice on the dc chain less foundation.
So I worked on the fabric bag a bit- love the fabrics I am using…and will get back to work on it either tomorrow or Saturday. I reached one point in the directions where they were so poorly illustrated and described..I did it the way that seems to make sense and looks right. And hope its ok. And if it is not, I am not ripping it out. So I did get some time sewing and got my momentum back on the crewel kit also.
Me too. I am hoping that Monday does not bring a lot of snow. It it does, I will be ready for it, and hope to get to the store either tomorrow or early Saturday to stock up on a few items.
Think I will go check out a local weather web site and see what they are saying about the possible storm. Hope everyone stays warm and comfortable!!!
Phyl and Sue, hope you are both well. Ginny

I finally logged in one my Chromebooks so now I don't have to be a guest anymore. I didn't mind that except when I wanted to edit. Guests can't edit I haven't really accomplished much today. Dh needed help with some things. One was tying a flat and long storage container that he had packed and plans to put on top of our van whenever we get to take our trip. It was a long process. If it had been me I would have just duct taped it which would have been much easier and probably would have been more secure but whatever Now my plan is to crochet the rest of the evening. Sure has been quiet on this board today.

Well I worked this am and then had errands to run. I called into work and told them I would NOT go in at 6 am…..they were lucky to get me when they did an hour and a half later. I did not have much down time today, but for the most part felt ok. Now I am just waiting for the temps to drop, they say we will go down to single digits tonight. And the same for Saturday and Sunday nights. Think tomorrow I will bring in some more wood, just in case. I wish the gas stove was installed already, but I have to wait 2 weeks for that.
Ruth are you crocheting DGD’s shawl?? Well, I guess duck tape might not be as weatherproofed as rope or twine. Like you, I would have opted for duck tape… At least the job is done and now you can crochet the evening away.
With the possible storm coming, I stopped in the store and picked up a few items and made sure my car has a full tank of gas. Hoping we keep power through the storm, where I have heard everything from a rain snow mix to 5-8 inches of snow. Guess I will just have to find out on Monday.
Hope everyone had a great day. Will stop back in later to see who checks in, And I got a few minutes of crewel work in G

I wouldn't go in at 6am either if I had the choice. The few times I had to work day shift which starts are 6 were terrible. I'm glad you went out and got some groceries to hold you over until the bad weather is gone and it's always smart to have a full tank of gas. Is it a gas cooking stove you're getting or a gas furnace. I love gas stoves for cooking but gas was not available in my neighborhood until a few years ago then it was too costly to run it from the lines into the house so I'll continue to make do with my electric stove. If I were younger and planned to live here longer I'd do it but not now. I'm glad you had a chance to do more crewel too.
I'm still working on dgd's shawl. I did a bit last evening but then did some other things instead of finishing the shawl. I might get it done today yet but am not sure of that.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some food and I hope the weather isn't too bad for you. Ruth - Hope you can spend some time this evening working on the shawl. It was cold and windy here today. They are still not sure exactly what weather we will get from the storm on Sun night-Mon morn. I'm hoping it's just some snow or rain, anything but ice! I did get the two new blocks made for the Sweet Dreams quilt along and I'm pretty happy with them, and much happier than the other blocks I made. I have a bunch of fabric pulled from trying to figure out what to do for this quilt along, so I'm hoping to get all of that put away this weekend. It's driving me a bit crazy seeing all that piled up in my sewing room. I need to get it organized so that I can see what projects I'm actually working on and what I have to work on next. I still have all the pieces of leftover fabric from the Happy Everything quilt along to do something with. I have an idea of what I might do with some of it, I just need to make a practice block and see how it looks. Take care everyone!

Good very cold Saturday morning!!
CJ- well I spent a little bit of time looking at the weather, trying to see how others will fare with this storm. Guess its not going to travel north until it reaches the coast. Other than it being cold (5 degrees here now) the precipitation predicted for me is varied but it looks like a rain - snow mix. CJ, I took a quick look at the beltway area and what I saw was that they were predicting only a small amount of snow…no ice. Hope that is right…. glad that you are pleased with the blocks for the sweet dreams quilt- so rewarding when we make something that makes us happy. It can be so frustrating walking into a sewing room/craft room and seeing nothing but chaos. Good idea for you to take the time to put away what you do not have immediate plans to use. Sometimes in putting supplies away it makes it easier to figure out what you might do with a fabric. Having fabric that you are unsure if you will ever use can be irritating- but if you get rid of it, then some project will come up that would be perfect to use it in.. sort of a reverse Murphy’s law. Anyway good idea to clean things up so you can be organized and focus on current projects. Have fun with your practice block!!
Ruth, hope you are able to finish that shawl, but all in due time, right?? You sound busy- hope that all your efforts are going the way you want without frustration. Sometimes household stuff can drive us nuts, right? I have a gas stove/oven in my kitchen. When the kids were in their teens, Dh converted the garage into a family room, but it has never had its own heat source and we have relied on electric heaters to heat it. I am having a gas burning stove (looks like a wood burner but uses propane) installed so the room is actually heated when I want to be in there. This is the room where most of the waterproofing was done (other than Ds’s room) and where I am laying carpet tile. Looking forward to that being installed, and having an installed healing source will make the house easier to sell if/when I want to.
The panel my sister mailed me arrived yesterday. Guess I might go to Joanns and get the supplies I need to finish this project for her- maybe I will head up there tomorrow before the storm comes.
Gonna go make some banana bread. BBL Ginny

Hello Ginny - Sounds like the family room will be nice and cozy once you get your gas burning stove installed. I' hope you'll be able to enjoy the room once everything is done. Hope you can find what you need at JoAnn's. And I hope your weather isn't too bad from the storm. It looks like my area will miss most of the bad weather and we might just get an inch or so of snow/rain, maybe freezing rain. I'm happy not to have anything. I got all the extra fabric in my sewing room put away and things are easier to work there. I still have a few projects laid out but I need to finish one of them and then figure out if I'll keep making the Sweet Dreams quilt in the fabric I started with. I'm attaching a picture of my first 2 blocks with the lighthouse theme. I tried out the churn dash block for the Block of the Month (BOM) quilt along from A Quilting Life - www.aquiltinglife.com/2022/01/quilting-life-quilt-block-of-the-month-january-2022.html/I've had the dark pink fabric (in the center of the block and along the sides) for awhile now just trying to find a use for it. I've been wanting to do another pink and brown quilt, so I pulled a few browns and a few other pinks and I think I will participate in this BOM. The lighter fabric is a Laundry Basket Quilts fabric and it's so cute with little small buckets on it. I found that on sale last month somewhere (online) and bought it. Now if I could just get that barn embroidery block finished LOL. Hope you all get to do some crafting this weekend and that your weather isn't too bad. Take care

CJ- the light house blocks are so sweet - what a precious idea to have a quilt with a lighthouse theme and while each block is different they share that theme. The fabrics and colors you have used for both blocks coordinate so very well, and I am sure it will be a really charming quilt!! The churn dash block is also adorable, and I do love the pink and brown color combination. the laundry basket quilts -bucket fabric is really cute, and as I always thought of churn dash as an almost amish design - that fabric coordinates well with that. You sure do use your fabrics well!!! Well if you were not having so much fun playing with fabric you would get that barn embroidery done. I know you want that done sooner but because it is a smaller project, it is also something that can be easily done in hot weather when having a large quilt to work with is uncomfortable. But knowing you that will be done soon also…just when you need some time away from the machine for a bit. Congrats on getting your fabrics put back into order. Its more inspirational if a work area is clean- sort of.
Got a bit more done on the fabric tote bag, which I should finish in an hour or so. I did open up and check out the panel I was asked to quilt for my sister….well, its much larger than a normal panel, and is really meant for a kids play mat. What I have to get at Joanns is 1/2 yard for the binding, thread, a marking chauk and some super thin batting. Yeah it will be a bit of a pain- especially now that I see the size of it. Guess I will just suck it up and finish the project for her. I can tell by the information she was unable to provide for me when I was asking about the project that she has no quilting experience. Just hope I can make this look decent enough.
Oh- CJ- glad to hear that you will most likely be spared a lot of bad weather with this storm. Stay safe….think it gets to you tomorrow, and me tomorrow night and Monday.
Ds is traveling this week ….and I hope he travels in safety.
Take care Ginny

CJ, I'm glad you're happy with the new blocks you made. The lighthouse blocks are great. I love the other one two and the colors are perfect. I hope that neither you or Ginny get bad weather tomorrow.
Ginny, yes I'd want heat in that room too. The woman who was our closest neighbor at our "fishing shack" in Arkansas had a propane heater and it was wonderful. We didn't have any heat source in our house because the only thing there was a propane heater that looked like it was installed in 1900. It didn't look at all safe to use so we got electric heaters. We did buy a propane heater later but then decided it was just too far for us to travel each year and people kept asking to buy it so we sold it and brought the heater back here with us since we never did get it installed.I'm glad you got to do a lot of your fabric bag and hope you love it.
I'm watching the Bill's game right now...who takes a baby to an outdoor football game when the temp is 6 degrees. They showed a man holding up a baby.
I still have just two rows of edging left on that triangle scarf and started a hat to work on during the game. I could have finished the scarf (which is quite large so in between a scarf and shawl actually) because it's only sc so no concentration needed but I saw a nice hat and thought I'd work on that one.
This morning I want out to one of my vehicles to rummage through bags of things destined to be donated. I seem to have lost my second toaster and second mixer which was brand new. I was planning on taking them to INdiana. They weren't in the bags so now I'm wondering if they were accidentally donated back in March of 2020 on that last day I went out for several months because of the pandemic. I did six errands that day and was anxious to get rid of those bags so may have accidentally picked up a bag packed for the trip. We searched all over the house and in the garage and haven't found them.I sure don't remember packing a toaster and mixer in a bag though.I'll probably find them after I replace them

Yikes that Bills game was quite something!!! Think the game was supposed to finish with a temperature of around 5 degrees, at least both teams are used to playing in cold weather. I really prefer the Patriots, but am not disappointed that the Bills won. And there is absolutely NO WAY I would take a baby to a game at that hour or in those temperatures. Ruth, I got a feeling that the toaster and mixer are somewhere in your home. Think we all have gotten rid of items - accidentally- that we did not intend to, but for some reason I do not think that is the case here. Usually items like that show up but it is such a pain in the neck to have to search everywhere. Hope you find both items quickly. There are times that a nice sc pattern is just perfect…..and makes for a nice project to watch a football game to.
That is my day now- football. I did get to church and then my friend and I went to Joanns, so I have all I need to put together the play mat for my DGN. Not sure if I will work on that today or not. I had a horrible time falling asleep last night and am really tired. My trip to Joanns might have to suffice as my crafting today.
CJ- not sure how your weather is right now- hope you are warm, safe and dry and no snow or Ice to deal with.

Yes that temp at the game was low but there were worse ones like the "Ice Bowl" in GB many years ago and a few other zero or below since then. I think the Bills scored a touchdown on every possession except the two couple second ones before halftime and before the end of the game. The reason I don't care for the Patriots is that I didn't like Tom Brady or Bill Bellichek or as my brother calls him, Bill Bellicheat. My dear friend in Alaska is a real Patriot fan as she is from New England.
The hat I was working on during the game was called Bubble Wrap hat because it has so many of what the designer calls pebble stitches which are just puff stitches done on the wrong side instead of the front. So you have to turn before each puff row which I'm not good at at all and even though I used a stitch marker I still lost a couple stitches but that really didn't hurt anything. It still fit my head so will fit any adult size head.
I've been cooking and now have to look for and decide what yarn I want to use for another dgd's triangle scarf but I also have to decide if I want to make her a triangle one or rectangle shawl. I do think that teenagers would probably prefer the triangle.
Yesterday I packed up a bunch more stuff to donate and to take to dd's house. Since they are always out and dd always seems to be sick I'll just put them on her porch and call to tell her they're there.
