We had such a strange experience at our Walmart yesterday. Fred was going to get distilled water for our humidifier and I needed a few things so went along with him. I was hungry for chocolate so we went down the candy aisle and I saw a box of candy bars that had some I like and some Fred likes. We got it as I told myself I will restrict myself to having one only if I really really want chocolate. Anyway when we checked out we went to our usual checker and she was chuckling about me getting a box of chocolate bars and when I said that I was diabetic she was shocked that I got it until I explained I have discovered if Iām really craving chocolate and donāt have it my glucose goes up but if I do have it my glucose is either the same or lower. So she smiled and we started leaving. Fred was looking at our receipt and said she only charged us for three distilled waters and we got four. So I said Iāll just go back and pay her. So when I went back I laughed and said you forgot to charge us for one of our distilled waters and she said oh no! I said so I want to pay for it. Her response? Oh you canāt do that as I already rang up your order and paid for it, you have to go to customer service! So I started walking back to Fred and the lady working self serve heard me say we have to go to customer service as she said she canāt ring up the water we owed her for. This lady came over and said sorry to listen in but can you tell me why youāre going to customer service? I explained it to her and said thatās just plain crazy! Hand me one of the bottles and she rang it up and I paid her. She was still shaking her head saying there was no reason why she could not have just treated this as another sale. So that was our weirdness for the day š¤Ŗ
This morning not much snow but blowing and just very nasty outside. Bridgette and Bailey are not very happy with me for taking them out in it. Havenāt seen Bridgette run that fast to come back in for a very long time. Iām just thankful we did our errands yesterday so donāt have anywhere to go and I have everything in the house that would satisfy any cravings I might get. Of course having it here I am craving nothing today!

Hi all!
Stay safe all of you that are having cold, snowy, icey weather. It's on the coolish side here in Florida too. It's 42Ā° this morning. Late last night I checked the forecast and realized it would get pretty cool overnight so brought in all of Jerry's orchids. A couple of his favorites have buds on them. I need to clean a spot in the Florida room to keep them through the rest of winter.
Yuck, no football until late this evening. I'm already going into football withdrawal.
I did get a chemo hat finished yesterday. I used to be able to make one a day but since the accident it takes almost a week. I can only knit a few minutes before the pain sets in and have to stop. I do miss my marathon knitting sessions.
Thursday evening I attended an meeting for the International Baccalaureate program with John. With Mercy in the Philippines and Gary working nights it was up to me to get all the information I could. WOW, what a program. It appears just getting the letter of eligibility is an honor. There is still one major step before acceptance into the program. John needs to take a test for entrance. I have him scheduled for the test on February 5 (8am-12:00noon).
I'm glad John and I went.Ā We learned a lot about the International Baccalaureate program.Ā And John is very excited about it.Ā John is normally very quiet, always has been, keeps things pretty much to himself.Ā However, after the meeting he talked about it all the way home.Ā When we got to Gary's I tried putting it all in a nutshell for Gary.Ā Normally John would disappear into his room.Ā Not Thursday night.Ā If I'd forget something John would remember and tell Gary.
The IB program is really intense learning and upon graduation they will have earned most, if not all, prerequisites for any college course they want to pursue.Ā It's not all just about classroom work either.Ā Kids are encouraged to participate in sports and/or clubs and, of course, there is a community service component too.Ā But just to graduate regular high school you need community service hours too. Anyway I was quite impressed and more importantly John was excited.A
I know I'm rambling again! So I'll close for now. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning. 38 temp and steady right now. Hope to walk the dogs in between rains as tomorrow and Monday probably too icy and dangerous to walk or drive. Tree is down bur very little else. About three totes put away. I left the putrid light up by took down Garland and bows. I want to light them thru the snow. I don't get many chances to see that and I love the way it looks.
Mass soon then home to pack things up. Going to Virgil mass tonight as tomorrow should be dicey driving.
Baked chicken with broccoli and baked sweet potatoes last night. I think some kind of bean soup today.
Hope everyone stays warm. Dry and safe.

I was surprised that Fred got up at 4:30 so I was able to get the one load of laundry I had started. By 7:30 I had taken the dogs out twice, fed them, made the coffee for tomorrow, took my shower, made the bed, finished the load of laundry, cleaned the bathroom, had breakfast and figured out a comfort food dish for dinner. Tuna casserole using Rheames noodles and the expensive tuna Fredās sister and her husband sent us. So now can settle in with a new free book I downloaded on my kindle. Fred said seeing all I had done makes him feel Iāve done enough for the day! Of course still have to cook the noodles for the casserole but thatās easy.

Everyone stay warm and safe. It is 66 here and sunny.
I have just signed up for a Bible study that will be on Tuesday mornings so need to write the check to buy the book and get it in the mail.
I signed a contract for A/c service yesterday and had my first check up and will get another every 6 months for 4 more check ups for $165 so seemed like a good deal. The company had good reviews but every company I checked had good reviews so donāt know how dependable that is. I asked him to put in a lightbulb which he could reach over my bar and he did.
Last night I did some work using Donās desk and had my back to the TV and could understand the news without my hearing aids and think I might be able to use that TV more but donāt have the box to record on it. But I was very encouraged to be able to understand the news without my hearing aids .

Jane things are looking up for you. I hope the new A/C company does well by you.
We had about a couple inches of snow which Don has already shoveled. I texted DS in West Des Moines to see how much they had and he hasnāt responded. Heās probably out shoveling with the boys.
I cleaned the bathroom this morning. I was surprised how dirty it was since it looked ok. Iām glad I can still get down on the floor to scrub. Then a load of laundry. Sandy Iām like you, done for the day. Well except for the other half of my rehab exercises. I still have to do the resistance bands.
B - leftover shepherds pie and two clementines. I really just donāt like breakfast food L - leftover soup and layered salad. That should clean out the leftovers with no waste. D - having eaten all the leftovers Iāll have to cook. Maybe it will include roasted veg. S - Skinny Pop. I have the individual 1 serving bags. Maybe an apple.
Geri I hemmed two pair of jeans yesterday so I thought of you. Iām sure I didnāt do it like you would. Itās irritating that I have to hem petite pants.

Good morning all.
We got just a light dusting of snow overnight but it won't stick around too long. The sun is shining and it's supposed to get above freezing this afternoon.
Karen E, that sure is a lot of snow! Before we moved down here to central Indiana, we used to get snowfall totals like that frequently due to the lake effect snows that come off Lake Michigan. I can't say that I miss it and for sure Jerry doesn't! Be careful getting out to clear the driveway.
Sandy, you got a lot done today! You deserve to sit down with a good book and relax for awhile.
Jane, what Bible study are you doing? That's great that you signed up for the study. It's always nice to get out of the house and be with church friends. And that's very encouraging that you were able to hear the other TV. Could the box for recording be moved to that one?
Geri, your menus always sound so delicious! Be extra careful with all the ice/snow you're supposed to get.
Pat, what a wonderful opportunity for your grandson! He must be one smart kid. Congrats to him!
Denise and Maya will be here shortly for their weekly lunch/visit. We're having hamburgers today so I'm sure Maya will be a very happy young lady. They're one of her favorites.

Good Morning!
It was 41 degrees when I woke up this morning. It will warm to the 70s today. Tomorrow it will be cold, windy and rainy so I need to get outside and walk later this afternoon after it warms up. For all of you having snow storms and ice stay warm and stay safe.

Greetings:
Haven't been here since Wednesday! The days melt together and we've been out to appointments. I'm so much happier when I can just stay home.
Had a friend say she was on a call with others - one from Mass and one from Florida. the Mass person talking about how warm it was and the Florida person talking about how cold! This was several days ago, of course, but so indicative of the current weather.
This was from last week but I'm answering for today.
QOTD: What is the most important thing you have to do today? Comment upon poetry written by high schoolers.
What is the least important thing you have to do today? Watch basketball/football.
What is the most fun thing you have to do today? Take a walk/make granola bars.
What is the least fun thing you do today? Clean off a shelf in the laundry room and one in the bathroom. Yep, I'm doing the flylady list again.
Karen E., glad Rob got involved with your intruder. Sounds like he's a good support for you.
Someone mentioned dishwasher replacement. When we were contemplating that vs just getting a repair (we went with repair since it was pretty new) cords didn't come with a new one. It cost about $50 for a cord! I can't remember the other separate things, maybe delivery and removal, but the cord was quite an eye-opener.
The Misfits sounds like it's good around the country. Ruth, if the fruits and vegetables are prepared I wonder why Mike doesn't like "ugly" ones. That's a mystery.
Citronella soup sounded unexpected. Have to look at that recipe, Sharon. I think of Citronella for mosquito candles.
Shragae, caffeine prep vs colonoscopy. What a choice! Downsides to both, but probably the caffeine prep is easier overall.
Pat, the IB sounded interesting. I was also caught by the fact that kids must do community service to graduate. That is new to me. Never heard of it before, but I think it's a great idea. Get them involved early.
I found a German Chocolate Cake recipe that looks really good. It's not as dark as I expected, but it gets rave reviews. I will make it for DH some time but not tell him I have it or he'll want it sooner rather than later.
Geri, not surprised you made that doggy run. My DGS-8 is dog-sitting this weekend. The neighbors are gone and his parents said he could take care of their dog. Apparently the dog arrived Wednesday night and has taken up residence in DGS's room, to the point of sleeping on his bed. This is a lab. Not much room for child if dog is in the twin bed! But the dog stays right with him. I've seen a few pics. That was a surprise, but this kid is dog-crazy. Apparently the dog knows that.
Sandy, wow. Steak dinner for scores. Here a couple of fast food restaurants do some odds and ends with scores but we've never made it. You have to get there within 24 hours.
We didn't get any of the weather that we're watching on TV. Snow was 60% yesterday, but no flakes fell. It is cold this morning, but going to 49. Yesterday the wind blew and it was so cold. I had to cut my walk short. I don't mind the cold, and a little breeze is okay, but yesterday was more than I'm ready for.
When I saw the doctor he said I need to keep my head up more. I'm more aware of how easy it is to bend. I've been trying to cut back and despite that find that I dip now and then. I had a thought of putting a stick under my chin down to my neck to at least make me more aware. The fogginess continues to recede. I just wish it would go totally. NOW! I am so not a patient person when it comes to things like this. I can't go to the gym until cleared and I don't see him for another month. I just walk. And keep my head up.
QOTD: Do you keep track of what you eat? Do you have a plan for treats? How do you use the information if you do keep track?
AOTD: I'm back to tracking every day which makes me happy because it does make me aware. I am eating a few more than my points but staying within the range of acceptable. Blue dots every day, but it seems to be maintenance level. I had oatmeal the other day for the first time in months. with blueberries and that was 4 pts for me. I'm still trying to figure this new plan out. Yes, more veggies are good. I do have a plan for treats. I'm considering a glass of wine as a treat since it's a good thing to have on the Blue Zones food plan. I also give myself a square of 90% chocolate which is also healthy. I've started looking back at the end of the day at what I ate. I'm in points, I still don't start eating until noonish and am done by 7. We moved dessert up to pretty much right after dinner. DH generally waits until later, and that's okay. But despite doing those things, I'm just churning. Down, up, down, up. It's almost like I need to just focus on the food itself rather than the points. I may try that this week. But, just curious.
BLUE ZONES
The next place, and as Sharon noted, they seem to be in warm places so they don't have temp issues to deal with, is Ikaria, Greece.
It's mountainous and they walk. They eat the Med diet, of course, fruits, veggies, olive oil, beans, potatoes. Potatoes! They drink herbal teas. Not the herbs my first thoughts were of, but oregano, wild rosemary, sage and thyme which act as diuretics and rid of sodium. Interesting. They nap and they fast. And, of course, fasting is the only scientific way to slow the aging process in mammals.
Their top foods are wild greens, potatoes, olive oil, black-eyed peas, chickpeas, lemons, herbs above, coffee and honey. Interesting isn't it.
A variation on that eat until 80% full idea. I need to get on those poems!

Vicki. The Bible study is called Jesus and women from the first century till nowā¦.or something like that. I really only have a āgood morning ā. Type of church relationship. I keep hoping for a friendship one . I have tried the Bible study before so this is a different day and I never hear from the one I tried before. Also my small group has not met since November and I have not heard from it either.
Since getting the new land line phones with the 4000 blocked calls I can count on one hand the calls I have had in 7 days. Ok think 7 so not on one hand. Two from the a/c man ..one to say he was on the way, one to open the gate, 3 from bridge partner, 1 from Jeff , 1 to tell me she is now getting the HOA emails so I can quit forwarding them to her. Now when the phone rings I am startled and Kelcy howls Oh one more. Yesterday my cell rang and it goes to the landline to ring but my watch said scam so I declined it. I love this new land line phone. I did have one message too while I was gone. It was a reminder of my A/C appointment. Really almost look forward to the phone ringing
Pat. What a tremendous opportunity for John. I do hope he gets this.
Karen E please be careful with the snow. You are always working . I do hope your family can keep most of it removed for you.
Sharon the petite capris almost come down to my ankles and most have some kind of design at the bottom so I canāt shorten them. I just have quit buying clothes. I have enough to outfit me forever .
I have written 3 checks today but had to do one twice because my signature was really bad . They are out in the mailbox because Monday is MLKday.

Karen. Since Bill likes German chocolate cake have you tried the Pepperidge farm one in the frozen food section I know I am here alone and have no one to serve it to,,,,but when it is on sale or BOGO I buy it . The lemon and coconut ones are good. Well they are all good and a nice size . I have two in the freezer and need to check dates but again no one to share with. I have cut one in half and put the rest back in the freezer.

QOTD: Do you keep track of what you eat? Do you have a plan for treats? How do you use the information if you do keep track? AOTD: I am not tracking. I can't seem to get past SparkPeople closing. It had tracking, exercise, articles, blogs, all my favorites and my recipes for 10 years and all colorful and helpful. MFP and Cronometer as so dull. I know without tracking there are little bits sneaking in my mouth that wouldn't have otherwise.
