Good Sunday Morning! What are your plans for today? I don't plan to go to in-person church. I can watch the live stream service. It's not the same but better than nothing.
Darn, double darn! I lost my original post again tonight. Something strange is going on with the new site I use for history info. So, maybe this next item fits perfectly for my opening today .
NATIONAL NOTHING DAY
Each year on January 16th, people across the nation recognize National Nothing Day.
The observance was created as a day to provide Americans with one National Day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing or honoring anything.
While it may be a good day to celebrate nothing at all, we suppose putting nothing in a glass and setting it on a table might suffice for celebration. You might leave your diary page blank every January 16th. Don’t mark anything on the calendar on the 16th, either. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you sent a blank email dated January 16th. How many replies would you get saying, “There’s nothing here.”
For people whose birthday lands on January 16th, wrap an empty box. That should elicit a nothing response appropriate for the celebration.
When asked, “What are your plans, today?” your response should definitely be, “Nothing.” What else would your answer be on a day like today? Now that we think about it, “Nothing” works well as an answer when recognizing the day.
So, I ask you again, What are your plans for today???

Tonight at sundown, Sunday, January 16, Jews begin the day of Tu B'Shvat, the 15th day in the month of Shvat on the Jewish calendar, which is one of the 4 New Year celebrations in Judaism - the Jewish Arbor Day.
The first Mishna in the tractate of Rosh HaShanah in the Talmud tells us that there are four "new years." The four Jewish new years are 1 Nisan, 1 Tishri, 15 Shevat, and 1 Elul (Mishna Rosh Hashanah 1:1).
The 1st of Nisan was considered the new year for counting the years of the reigns of kings in ancient Israel. It is also the new year for ordering the Jewish holidays. Nisan is really the beginning of the Jewish people (our contract at Sinai).
The 1st of Tishri is Rosh HaShanah -- often called the Jewish New Year but it really means the head of the year. Tishrei is the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar.
The 15th of Shevat is the new year of trees (Tu B'Shvat).
The 1st of Elul is the new year of animal tithes. It is the sixth month of the Hebrew calendar.
Tu B'Shvat, the "new year of trees" begins at sundown.
The holiday is called Tu B'Shvat because "Tu" is the pronunciation of the numeral 15 when spelled out (the letter ט / "tet" and the letter ו / "vav."). Hence, Tu B'Shvat means the 15th of Sh'vat.
The Torah says that fruit from trees grown in the land of Israel may not be eaten during the first three years.
The fourth year's fruit is for G-d, and after that, the fruit can be eaten.
Each tree is considered to have aged one year as of Tu B'Shvat, no matter when in the year it was planted.
It is customary to plant trees and partake of the fruits of the land of Israel to mark the occasion.
The Torah says, “Man is like a tree of the field.” D'varim / Deuteronomy 20:19.
Just as a tree needs water, air, soil and the sunlight to survive so does man...
And finally...
"Torah (the Five books of Moses) is a tree of life for all who grasp it." (Mishlei / Proverbs 3:18).
So in honor of this holiday eat some fruit, preferably some from Israel. It is considered a good day to plant a tree in Israel on this day.

Thank you for the information, Shagrae.
Well, I will be watching online church. Even if everything was back to normal I probably wouldn't get out today. Absolutely too cold for me and I am still coughing.
Sunshine and high about 50 this afternoon.
Kathie, I hope you have another good day.
Laters Gators.

Shragae, thanks for the interesting info.
Lucy, I didn't go TO church either but watched it online. There seemed to be about the usual number there for 8:00 worship, but I noticed that 69 people were watching online. That was up but may have been an increase in "visitors".
It was colder here this morning then I realized it was going to be. 4 degrees when I got up - 18 now.
I cut up a new bunch of veggies to have with a spinach dip. That has been my go-to snack lately & I love to snack.
Yes, nothing planned here for the rest of today. Don will be watching football. I am more than tired of it by this time of year. Not really interested in the Super Bowl either but might keep one eye on it, depending on who's playing, & the other eye on something else. I use to do a lot of knitting but gave it up when arthritis in my wrists got too bad.
Connie, I got a pop-up yesterday advertising Kincaid Christmas ornaments at the Bradford Exchange. They have some really nice snowman & bird/animal pieces, & I thought of you. Most were illuminated & had the bird's song too. (Song doesn't seem like the right word but I can't think of anything better - call maybe?) There's one I would like to get. They're kind of pricy so I wouldn't dream of getting two. I may have a hard time justifying getting one.
Keep warm & be safe

Hi!
Another Sunday morning! Today is a little different. Our sidewalk is covered in ice, so DD will not come over. We streamed our church service, too.
I am thankful today that our heat is working, the power is on, and we are safe. And I am really thankful for friends -- a few in person, but several I only know through the internet. Isn't it strange that a "golden girl" should feel so close to other "golden girls" she has never seen? (Don't you think that is a better term for our age than "old lady?" ) Betty White liked it! Though maybe you aren't quite golden. I'm 78, and if I am ever going to be golden, here's my chance!
Stay safe, friends, especially if there is ice out there.
Hugs! Diane

Kathie, we don't say it enough, thank you for your tuck in's. I am sure most days you just feel like tucking yourself in.,!!
my plan for today is Nothing!! and that is the truth. I do think a lot of people are checking to see what Churches are on line and don't necessarily have a "home" Church. I have done that a couple of Sundays.
I really like to learn new things and Shragae, thank you for the information today, I thought it was very interesting.
Phyl, I honestly don't think I would trust that pharmacist. Even if he is a newbie, he should have someone over seeing him for awhile. how do you know you are actually getting your right meds? I do a Regular pharmacy only. Not one in a store or Rite Aid ( lot like Walgreen ) either. They mess too many things up. My friend was paying way too much for her meds and when I got her going to the Pharmacy only place she now has many that she has no copay for. They do have a number of off hours and holidays and do answer it them selves. I don't think they ever told her they did not carry her insurance. Granted she should have checked but now she is a happy camper. Taking me to lunch some day when we feel like it is safe!!! She loves ordering her prescriptions and they notify her when they are ready and she goes through the drive up window and fells safe as well. this is just my opinion and my experience alone so don't feel like I am telling anyone what to do, I am not!!! Just giving you my experience and my neighbors.
It is so hard these days to keep track of medical issues of all kinds.
Marlene, I am going to check that out, I do love Kincaid and his puzzles are my favorites as long as they are the bigger pieces. My DD has had a couple of calendars she likes one near her computer at work. Thank you for thinking of me.
I am making the muffins. The oatmeal is soaking in the buttermilk as I type. Had to make the buttermilk and usually use vinegar but this said you could use lemon juice so I did try that. Next time I will go back to my vinegar. This recipe makes 24 muffins and I will be able to give some to my neighbors that bring me goodies. IF they turn out.
Lucy, especially like your pictures today. thanks.
Not sure I am a Golden Girl, I am such a homebody. They were on the go all the time ladies.

Diane, don't think I'm a Golden Girl either, but at 83 I guess age wise I could be. I use to have golden hair, does that count?

I shoveled my sidewalk and some of the driveway while I waited for my ride to church to come. We went to Bible class and church. I haven't done anything else. Tomorrow is my Hooked on Books club. We read Children of the Blizzard. It's currently 25 degrees with possible snow this evening. I forgot to mention Linus' latest milestone. He is pretty much nonverbal, but yesterday he put two words together for the first time - Hi Mom!
