People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Good morning, friends.
I am very busy lately. Too busy. I miss my quiet times.
Yesterday two friends and I tried out a breakfast spot for the group we belong to that goes out for breakfast and lunch. Would not recommend it.We had fun talking, though. I worked for hours after I got home on the film class for Monday. We are presenting PULP FICTION. It was the first film I saw that had very gory things going on but I found myself laughing out loud throughout. The second was the movie FARGO. I watched PULP FICTION twice this week and had seen it at the end of last year as well. I love this film. In addition to some violence, the language is pretty coarse, though. They say the "f" word 265 times during the movie! Yet it only ranks 25th in the films that use it the most. It is less than half the number of times it is used in THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, for example. Wow! The scene where John Travolta and Uma Thurman do the twist is one of my favorites. I have always enjoyed watching him dance.
Today is my read-aloud group. Then DD is coming over later to help me with some house stuff and we may go out to dinner after. Somehow I also have to check in with the woman who is running the film class. It is at 11:30 Monday.
Here is a health quiz. I did terribly on this one...only 2 right. It is from the NYT and my score was better than only 2% of NYT readers. Not my best work. Learned a few things, though.
1. Studies indicate that what percent of the population experiences food cravings? a More than 50 percent b More than 75 percent c More than 90 percent d 100 percent
2. Around menopause, women are more likely to start storing fat in this part of the body: a Thighs b Hips c Belly d Neck
3. Sometimes called the "vampire hormone," this popular dietary supplement helps recalibrate the body's circadian clock: a Cortisol b Angiotensin c Melanocyte-stimulating hormone d Melatonin
4. A 57-year-old man from Maryland became the first person to receive a heart transplant from this animal: a. Dog b. Baboon c. Pig d. Orangutan
5. Swedish cross-country skiers were less likely than their more sedentary peers to suffer from this mental health disorder, a decades-long analysis found: a. Bipolar disorder b Anxiety c. Major depression d. Eating disorder
6. About what percent of patients who enter intensive care units are eventually able to leave the hospital? a 50 to 60 percent b 60 to 70 percent c 70 to 80 percent d 80 to 90 percent
7. True or false? For most people, getting the flu and Covid-19 at the same time will make you twice as sick. a.True b. False

Again. Hard to believe third snow in less than two weeks. Just turned to rain after about two inches of snow. Predictions changed to lower amounts last night and now changed to higher amounts again. Huey and Rizzo have the right idea. Binder up and sleep thru it.

Good Morning!
It is not as cold as yesterday, though it is rainy it is no longer windy. So glad I got both a walk and a bike ride with Mike yesterday when it was nice out.
Today I am making beef stew for dinner.
Gail, After seeing your scores I was sure I would only get 2 right but I got 2 wrong. 3 I actually knew the answers to and 2 were lucky guesses. They are always fun. Thanks for providing them.

Good morning. I was glad to read the Beth Israel hostages are all free.
Gail you are one busy lady and I’m happy for you. You thrive on that. I got 4 of 7 right. I got 2, 3, 4 and 6 right.
Geri I love your back yard and deck.
Ruth that was fortunate that Mike called his mother. How scary to be alone and without adequate food.
I made Vegan Sloppy Joe’s from leftover lentils I cooked. Delicious.

Beautiful ❤️ photos. Thank you for sharing.
Woke up to pouring ☔ 🌧️ ☔ rain. Was dreading taking Dash out but by the time I made coffee ☕ there was a break in the weather.
However the 🌬️ wind is gusting. I was worried about tree limbs getting knocked down by a big one. Thank goodness Dash was quick!
Coffee ☕ is ready. Happy girl 💞.
Have a good day.

Been under weather alerts and warnings for over 5 hours now with radio alarm going off constantly . Worse is past and I had lights go out for a few minutes but now everything is working. No touchdown close to me . Everything is calm here now.

Good afternoon ladies.
We have lots of sunshine today so it will make the 40 degrees we have seem a bit warmer.
I was also glad to see that all the hostages from Beth Israel temple in Texas were freed unharmed yesterday. It could have ended much more tragically than it did. It's a sad and scary world when places of worship have to be concerned with things like this happening. I know our church has it's own "security detail" made up from several trained people in the congregation and it's in place every worship service. They're very discreet so most people don't realize it's even there.
Gail, I took the test you posted and much to my surprise I only missed 2. I knew some of the correct answers and had to guess at the rest.
Geri, those two little fur babies have the right idea. Hunker down and take a nap until the snow stops! I hope you don't get as much as they're saying. Be careful!
Karen E, I'm betting wifi is out all over the place in your area. Good luck!
Shragae and Jane, stay safe down there with all that wind.
Ruth, beef stew sounds like a perfect meal for a winter's day. I'm so glad to hear that Mike found a way to get his mom some food in the house. That must have been so scary and worrisome for her. Is there anyway she'd agree to Meals on Wheels?

I had read it before so I looked and found this as a headline “Solar Storm Warning: Geomagnetic Storm Set to Impact Earth Directly on January 15.” It would disrupt some satellites and power grids. I suppose WiFi. These happen from time to time.
NFL day today at our house.

Internet is back, maybe Sharon is correct but our is through CenturyLink phone line which is underground system. I never checked with any neighbors, one has Hughesnet Dish, some have local company MCG which is by air using tower relay, also think MCG is now doing in ground system. Some may even have USCellular WiFi, we are rural so not a one size fits all.
Ruth Sorry to hear Mike’s mother was without food and hopefully not for long. In this day and age apparently we need more than one backup plan. One never know for what reason “your person” is unable to see to our needs. Thanks to those that were/are able to care for her.
A very lazy day here and I am not accustomed to that. Trying very hard not to snack. Will go out a bit later and do a bit of scooping the path to fuel barrel, not an emergency so a bit at a time. Some meat in slow cooker for supper. We are momentarily listening to 50’s Gold on XM Radio on TV. In a few minutes he will switch to something else. For a full week he has been in Depends makes laundry much easier and less often. Lunch was potato soup for him , chicken noodle for me. Got to get up and move.

Good evening
Feeling like such a slug, being inactive! This too shall pass soon.
I got 3-4 questions correct other than guessing. Was pleased to see that 90% make it out of ICU. That’s encouraging. Wonder if that’s pre-Covid? Also, good to know you’re not twice as sick with COVID and Flu. Hoping not to test it!
Just visiting with the DGKs, reading and cooking. Today was oatmeal and blueberries, spaghetti squash and marinara with some pasta and a bean burger with hummus (avocado not ripe) and oven fries. I miss having a large raw salad but can’t chew it just now.
I’m exhausted taking an Advil and Extra Strength Tylenol 4x daily. Last time I had taken any was 2017 when I broke my arm!
Have a great evening all and stay warm!
Marlo

It's been a rough day for me. This weather is playing havoc with my back, neck and shoulder. My pain level today has been an 8 and nothing has helped. Even the TENS unit hasn't helped. I want to laydown and cry.
Then to top my day off Gary, our son, got laid off. Don't know all the details yet but need prayers that he finds something and fast. Of course with tomorrow being a holiday he can't really do anything until Tuesday.
Hope everyone is staying inside where it's warm and safe. I know Duke hasn't left the living room sofa except to make a quick potty run. Then right back inside and on the sofa.
Jerry's been watching the football playoffs. So far he's happy as "his" teams have won.
I got 5 of the questions correct. I knew 3 answers the others were a best guess.

Tornado hit about 10 miles from me. Even had one home shown on national news. Mobile homes were mostly hit but high winds also did damage . At one point there were 4 tornadoes on the alarm so that is why my weather radio went off continually. Wind turned over a semi truck on I 75 only a few miles from my exit. All the alarms had me nervous but I was able to keep track of where they were with the TV showing it all. No commercials for the 3 hours I had it on.
