Happy Monday! Kicking us off for the week!
Ruth, Batiks are a special process of dying fabric- they end up looking like very fancy tie die- very pretty and are usually in vibrant colors. I am sure that CJ will come up with a better definition.
BBL off to work for me Ginny

Definition of batik. 1: a fabric printed by an Indonesian method of hand-printing textiles by coating with wax the parts not to be dyed; also: the method itself.
I added this for Ruth- batiks are usually very vibrant jewel tones. They are pretty but not a repeating pattern like a calico.
Meg, Hope those new drops help with your eyes. I do agree with Ruth, it was rude that you were not invited to Devin's birthday party- unless it was inapproiate for you to be there. As in it was an all kid party.
gotta go. DGS is here Ginny

Good morning Ginny, CJ, Phyl, and Meg and all who read the thread.
It's a rainy cool day here today but only three more days until it warms up.We're not going out as we were really only going for that one item so we'll just stay in our dry house. I've already knitted some on the scarf. Last evening I worked on the shawl.I'm going to cook a couple things and do some chores and then back to my knitting and crocheting.
Ginny, I hope your work week is an easy one and goes by quickly and you can enjoy a couple days off once more
I imagine Devin's party was a kid only one but still I think she should have asked you and your ds if you wanted to come along and watch, Meg, but that's our young generation. They don't think of things like that. It's none of my business I know but I hate for you to feel bad or left out.
CJ, did you get a lot of your crafting done. I know you had a good time looking at the things you bought. I always love looking at my purchases.
Phyl, you always have a lot going on in your life. Do you have special things planned for this week
I'll see you all later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well on this Monday Ruth - Hope you enjoy the warm weather when it gets there. Sounds like you are making a lot of progress on your projects. Ginny described the Batik fabric well, here's a link to see pictures of batiks: www.fabric.com/quilting-fabric-batik-fabric.aspxThey do work well in some quilts, but I can't use them because I'm allergic to the dyes in the fabric. So I stick to the 100% quilting cotton fabric. Ginny - Hope going back to work today wasn't too bad. Meg - I'm upset for you that you weren't invited to the party for Devin. Even if it was just for kids, you might have enjoyed watching them have fun. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I did get my project list written out yesterday, so I know what I have to work on. I'd hoped to get to some things today, but unfortunately I'm just not feeling motivated to do anything. Hopefully tomorrow. Take care everyone!

Yes, Indeed Happy Monday crafters! I do wonder how many just read our happy little thread and never stop in to say hello. Yes, I have occasionally "lurked" on another thread- usually of a political nature to either see how strange the extremes sound (extreme right or left - they all can sound outright batty to me!). But I never post there. Made that mistake once- and a nut bag came out of the woodwork and insulted me into oblivion. No, I was not frightened by them but realize that by giving them any attention at all it just fuels their fanaticism. So I stay out. Guess that was a long way of saying that I cannot imagine a non crafter lurking and reading this thread, as we focus on things like batiks, chenille yarn, suede yarn and how to quilt.
Speaking of all that, CJ thanks for posting the pictures of batiks. I confess, you are a sweetie, but I copied a definition of batiks. They are so pretty- I do love the bright intense colors, and they make a dramatic quilt. But, like you (I think!) I lean toward the traditional calicos, toiles, florals and tone on tone fabrics used for quilting. I think our favorite color scheme might differ, but we tend to like similar fabrics. Do not blame you for taking a day off from crafting. Think your weekend was plenty craft filled- a day off is a good idea! And you do get an awful lot done in one day. I have never heard of anyone being allergic to the dyes in fabric- and it's a shame that if you did want to use batiks you would not be able to.
Ruth- well, let's hope that this item goes on sale again soon- being that you missed the sale today. Sounds like warmer weather is heading your way-perhaps that is a good time to get out to get some shopping done. Glad to hear that you got some knitting and crochetting in today- working on the shawl. I think we are all on the same page here, that it would have been nice if Meg had been invited to Devin's party- with all that she does for him and how close she is to him. And it's hard to read emotion in a post- regarding if she was hurt by being excluded or not. I just hope her feelings are not hurt.
Well survived day one. THis week is busy but not nearly as bad as last week was. I will be in Hobby Lobby Wednesday and a LQS- that is if all goes well. Think Tuesday and Friday I can actually just go to work and not have any additional running around to do. Next weekend DH and SIL are renting a truck to unload MIL's house- so the weekend will be busy with that.
Better go- Dh just got up ( he took a nap)- so I better put dinner on the table.
Hope Meg and Phyl get to check in! Ginny

Ginny, there are some people that read threads just because a friend or another person is on it and they just want to read what that person is saying. Some people read a lot of threads because they have a lot of time on their hands and don't have any hobbies or anything to use that time for.
Thank you Ginny for explaining the batik and CJ for posting the pictures. I'm with both of you. I like the traditional ones best. CJ sorry to hear that you're allergic.
So your dh takes naps too. Mine has a very weird sleeping schedule and he never really sleeps for long periods at one time.
I was looking at patterns again and saw one for a blanket very similar to the one I made the other day. It also was fuzzy and on the small side and they called it a security blanket. Kind of like what a baby would hold while sucking their thumb I guess. I got my craft room so that I could actually walk into it and it doesn't look like a hoarder's room (lot more organizing to do though) and I found one more ball of that Plymouth Heaven lite that my friend gave me and that I used for the blanket. This one is exactly the same except that it's white with the pinks and other colors of the pinnk one so I'm going to use that to put on a border. It's just so pretty. I hate that it's been discontinued. Seems like every one that I start to really like ends up being discontinued. But then what can you do.If a certain one isn't making enough money for the company they do get rid of it. Their goal is to make money I guess.
CJ, a day off now and then is needed so don't feel bad
Yes I do hope we see Meg and Phyl and I'm sure we all agree that we would love for anyone else that's interested in crafts to join us and talk to us about what they're doing..knit, quilting, crochet, etc

Hey Ruth-I have had decent success on eBay finding discontinued yarns. For years, I my Dh accused me of being a horrible sleeper- and I thought I was! Now I realize that he is the horrible sleeper and he just tries to push that "honor" on me. So he does nap- not every day, but a few times a week. Anyway, the afghan sounds pretty- and I like the idea of a border for it. Congrats on getting your craft room straightened up a bit too! G

Hello everyone, I was going to post this morning and all of a sudden I was off the board. I don't know what happened but it does happen a lot on PBs.
My DGD probably thought I wouldn't want to go to the party but it would have been nice to have been asked. Anyway the main thing is that Devin had fun
The temp. here this afternoon is 87 and we will have a few days in the 80s and then it will cool down again. I don't deal very well with the hot weather.
My V stitch afghan is almost finished. I just have to do a border which will take a little while. I am not great at crocheting borders. This computer is doing something wrong. A few mins ago I had part of a post that I had posted on another board this morning added to the bottom of this post. I deleted it but I have never had that happen before. So I will give up for now. I wish you all a good evening.

good evening, I haven't been doing so much crafting. to busy being lazy or bumin.
one of our very good quilters went on the trip of a life time dream. she got to go to the south pacific and see how batiks are made. she even got to dye her own piece of fabric. she showed wonderful slides .they start out with a plain piece of mulsin (I think) mix the dye and then some how make their pattern and then this lays on the ground ( think they have something under it). the batiks dry in the sun. this is all I can remember about what joan said.
meg that was very rude of them not to even ask you and ds about the party. also very hurtful. how can you not be hurt?
MAY 1ST AND THE WEATHER HAS BEEN. s----! started out with rain last night. this am we had big flakes coming down. more rain and more rain. ou rhigh was 43 local channels said we are 15 degrees below normal.
toward the end of the week we will get back into the 60's. this has to be one of the wettest and coldest april 's In history. not just for wi. phyl

A short good morning as I have to go face the kiddies soon.
Meg, thanks for the explanation regarding Devin's party. Think we were all hurting for you- knowing how much you are for him, how close you are to him and all you do for him. Glad you were able to go high road and not show bitterness regarding that...but still it has to hurt. You deserve better than that.77777777

OK so now I'm posting using Siri because my keyboard is messed up and I can't seem to login on the computer. My keyboard wants to type sevens. I'll see if I can figure that out later. Phyl that trip that your friend went on to see how batiks are made sounds amazing think it's something we would all enjoy even if we're not big fans of the batiks I'm going to go and I hope everybody has a great day! See you later and hopefully I can post normally. Ginny

Hello Crafters – Hope you are all doing well today Ginny – Sounds like another busy week for you, I hope you do get a few days without extra errands. I like the more traditional fabrics too. I think it’s the dyes in Batiks that cause me problems. I even get stuffed up sometimes working with some of the cotton fabrics. Hope you can figure out your keyboard problem. Ruth – I’m glad to hear your crafting room is less crowded, it does make it easier to work on projects, doesn’t it? Meg – That’s some warm weather you’re having. It’s finally cooler here for a week or so. Phyl – That does sound like a great trip your friend went on. I think I’d enjoy going to a factory where they make quilting cotton fabric. I was feeling motivated today so I put my weekly block together (this is 19 or 25 blocks). I also sewed a binding on a small piece so I can get some practice. And I put inner and outer borders on two quilts – the Falling Charms one I did in Moda Poetry fabrics – I used this fabric for the outer border: www.fatquartershop.com/poetry-prints-blush-romantic-blooms-yardageAnd I put a small white inner border and a larger outer border on the Zipper quilt I did, using this fabric: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/67972/maywood-studio/maywood-studio/berries-blossoms-a-kims-cause-collection-flower-bed-pink-yardageEverything was pink today . There was more I’d like to have done but hopefully I’ll get to that later this week. I have trouble with posting on ProBoards too sometimes. I’ve starting typing out my messages in Word first and the copying them to the message board. Take care everyone!

Hello, Ginny, Ruth, cj & Phyl, It is going to be another hot day here the high forecast is 89. I have the doors and windows open and there is a nice breeze.
I didn't do any crocheting last evening so I had better get busy later today. I was reading a book I wanted to finish, it wasn't an audio book.
Thank you all for your comforting words about Devin's party. My DGD is just thoughtless and takes a lot of what I do to help her and Devin for granted. But I am not going to get bent out of shape over it. DS and I just want Devin to have a secure home life.
I am feeling sleepy so I am going to have a short nap. I think the meds I take in the a.m. make me sleepy. Have a wonderful Tuesday.
