Good evening! Here I am typing on this darned iPad, but it's better than nothing!
CJ, I had trouble opening the solstice quilt blog for both weeks 19 and 20. Anyway, I had trouble opening weeks 19 and 20 of the solstice quilt. Glad that you have a good sized quilt to practice long arming on,that class is soon isn't it? When I had a crown fall out like that, I had issues with the base of the crown, which had to be dealt with. Hope your crown is easier to fix!
Ruth, well cleaning the kitchen can wait..... You would be surprised what interesting quilts can be made from non quilting fabric. But donating fabric sounds like a good idea and it makes more room for yarn!😀
Meg, a border will nicely cover up all the color changeover areas of the v stitch afghan, which must be striking! Is it cooler today?
My leg is due to overuse, so resting it today should help. Let's see how tomorrow goes.
Hope Phyl had a good day. Good night! Ginny

No I think it's really true. I checked last night and it your's was the only one. I started to post something but then something interrupted me...can't remember what right now.
I really didn't get any crafting at all done yesterday so hopefully today I can make up for it but it's a beautiful day and is 75 right now so I do need to get out for a short walk. I did that yesterday and intend to every single day. I also have some exercises to do inside.
CJ, I did see the site and the block for this week is really great. I love it! There are a lot of really nice ones and again, some just all blend together. I do remember #80 but can't remember the others that I especially liked. The one you mentioned I think maybe 29 is beautiful also. Checked the other site too but I liked the other best.I still always think of how amazing it is that you can take those half blocks (or two color blocks...can't remember what they're called)and put them together in so many ways to make things that are so entirely different.
CJ, how is your maintenance going. I know you got to your goal a little while ago. Now I'm having a problem with continuing to lose instead of maintaining. That sure is a new one for me.
WEll going to go and work on my crocheting I think...Ginny, it's Friday!!!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today and looking forward to the weekend Ginny - I hope your leg is feeling better. How is your embroidery coming along ? Ruth - Your weather sounds nice, hope you get out for a walk. Maintenance is going pretty well for me. I had a bad weekend last week - too much overeating but I got right back on track this week. I may extend my Maintenance a few weeks, because I'm still not sure exactly how many points I need to eat each day/week. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well today. I cut the fabrics for the latest Solstice quilt block, but I won't put it together until this weekend. I also picked out a needle and thread that I want to use to hand quilt the mini-wholecloth. I'm using a darker blue thread on this light blue fabric and it should show up nice. Of course it will also show my uneven stitches but since this is just for practice I'm O.K. with that. I'm going to start quilting this on a nice lap frame I have, but if I don't like it then I'm going to try to quilt without a frame and see how that goes.

good evening!
Yes, indeed it's Friday!
Ruth, glad you are getting out to walk a bit. Build u p a little as you can . All activity counts! Funny how only a week ago you had snow, and today it's 75! Were you able to get some crafting time today?
CJ, you always seem to have a good plan for your crafting . Gotta tell you, I scrutinized some quilts in that Amish quilt store and their hand quilting stitches were not that even. You will do a wonderful job. I am anxious to hear how you like or dislike hand quilting. I think using the darker blue thread will have a striking effect and be very pretty. So to finish the solstice quilt will you repeat one of the smaller blocks to compensate for the larger block you omitted?
I was cautious today, walked a little bit less, stretched between routes and carefully used Advil. Overall, I am better, although the problem is not gone. Tomorrow we are renting a truck to empty MIL's house. I am hoping that we are bringing enough young legs so that my not so young legs can avoid heavy lifting.
Time for me to embroider some! First butterfly is almost done. And I came up with a strategy for the gift cards and the quilt shop. The falling charms quilt will need a backing fabric and a border. Sounds like I can get that at the quilt shop.
Meg, how are you feeling?
Phyl, hope you had a good day. Ginny

CJ, I truly believe that having some bad days is part of maintenance. There will be many days when we are tempted or have no choices in what we eat so learning how to deal with that is a big part of learning how to eat for the rest of our lives. Today it got up to at least 80 so Ginny, I'm already rethinking my attitude toward hot weather . I haven't got to any crafting yet today and it's almosst 7. Dh determined that the ants we saw last night were carpenter ants so along with his fanatical dislike of any kind of bug now he got super stressed about them damaging the house. I finally just went online and ordered some stuff but he took the whole window frame that we saw them running under to see if he could find hte nest...He couldn't. I think it's behind the wall so the stuff I ordered is something that they gather and take back to the nest to kill the whole colony. He really stresses about these things. I'm more of the attitude that what is just is and the best thing is just to calmly deal with it. Ginny, when I said today was Friday I forgot that your Saturday is going to be taken up with clearing out your mil's house. It'll be great when it's done and you can rest. I hope you do have a lot of helpers. CJ, yes hand quilting probably requires a lot of practice to get near perfect but things are actually nicer when they're not completely perfect. It seems to me that it makes it more apparent that it is something that was made with love.I really treasure the small Christmas quilt my friend made me before she passed away. The hand quilting is not perfect but I know it was made by her because she cared about me and wanted me to have something she made.

Hello everyone, another hot day here though not as hot as the past few days. I was up early this morning and went to PT then home for a little while and then off to my Knit Wits Gp. I was tired when I got home so put my feet up for awhile. I worked on my b/blanket today and this evening I will probably work on the border for my V stitch afghan.. My eyes are itchy again. I am allergic to something but what?
I can see that you are all busy quilting and I would love to see all your work.
Ginny, I hope your leg is feeling better today. Will you have time off during the summer when school is out?The posts are coming up in a funny way and some are blacked out. I don't know wether it is my computer or the web site. I am sure I am missing some of your posts. When I start a post it takes me back to the first page so I have to copy and paste to post on he last page. weird. I am sure you will be glad when you are finally done with your MILs house. Hopefully you are at the end of it now.
Ruth, Have fun getting rid of the ants. I usually use the stuff that they take back to their nest and they usually go away in a day or so.
Hi Phyl, What are you up to? take care.
cj, I am glad you are still doing well maintaining and hope you can work out the number of points you can have to maintain. Maintaining is probably the more difficult part of the plan.

Well I didn't end up doing any crafting after all. I thought dh would go have a nap but he didn't. He was too busy waiting for ants to come out so he could kill them. He's finally gone to bed but it's after midnight and I didn't sleep well last night so am tired even tho I slept in this morning. Once I get to sleep I'm fine but getting to sleep is problem.
Meg, I'm sorry to hear that you're having eye trouble again. I guess the drops the dr gave you don't help the allergies. Did he suggest any drops for allergic irritation? I have two kinds for dh's eyes because when the irritation acts up it gets really bad. Luckily it doesn't happen often.
Well I think I'm going to bed. It's to be hotter tomorrow but then will cool off again for several days...just so it doesn't cool off TOO much.

Good morning! Ruth, hope your ant poison shows up quickly, so that you can remedy the issue asap. It's something about spring weather that brings them out. I usually have trouble with ants in the spring, and do exactly what you are doing. Sounds like yesterday was a good day to take a break from crochetting. Did you sleep better last night.? Think you are safely beyond the time where it will cool off too much, at least until next fall. Hope you can stay comfortable today, until cooler weather arrives. Meg, if you go on weather.com, go into the health section to see what is pollinating in your area and therefore what you might be allergic to. It's good to hear that your weather is cooling down a little so that it's less oppressive. I am happy for you that you got to knit wits! Are you getting close to the end of the border for the v stitch afghan? Yes, we have rented a truck to empty MIL's house. This past week I disposed of the rest of her clothes, yesterday we got rid of her television. I don't not know what I face today, just hope that SIL decides to work and not sit on her throne waiting for the servants to do everything for her. This will be the last day I contribute help to this effort. I did finish the first butterfly last night and began working on a lady bug. Should be done with that soon as they have much less detail. If you are into quilting, check out www.familyfarmquilts.com. That is the quilt shop we went into in Ronks,Pa. They do sell a lot of their hand made quilts online. Time to check email, take care of some bills and then get to work. Have a great day! Ginny

Good morning all. It's still morning here. I'm sure that by now Ginny is working on her mil's house and I, too, hope the sil will be useful. Since it's her mother I would think she would be the main person taking care of things but some people just want to be the bystanders watching others do all the work.
I did check the local stores online info yesterday and saw that none of them carry the good insecticides that would be good for carpenter ants so that's why I ordered online. We have to go to a store called Menard''s that is like Home Depot, but I think found only in the midwest and west. I'm waiting to hear that my car battery that I ordered from them is in and I thought I could get the insecticide I needed there but they don't have it either. I do strongly dislike going to that type store.
Ginny, in 2015 my ds and dgs come to visit in early May. They left on the 3rd. It was 85 degrees. The next Sunday was Mother's day and we had 11 inches of snow so, no we can't count on this being the last of the cold weather yecet.
Noisey in my yard today but I can't complain. My neighbor, bless his heart, is mowing my yard. That saves a lot of dust and pollen from getting into my dh's lungs as now he won't have to do it for awhile. Yard is over an acre so there's a lot of mowing involved.
Well I'm going to start working on sorting my fabric and decide what to keep that might be good for quilted things and my rice bags and what I can't use for anything and then sometime I'll load the car with all the things to be donated and take them to GW...unless a better place to donate comes to mind.

I just started looking thru bin after bin of fabric and I can't believe the amount of fabric I have that I bought for potentially making quilts. I had no idea I had so much cotton fabric. I'm only on the first bin right now and have only looked at a couple layers so far.

I've dug thru all but the huge one so far and have to move a couple to get to that one. Meanwhile my craft room is once again a giant mess that I can hardly walk thru.. It's hot in there so I keep coming out to cool off. It's hard for me to tell what some of this fabric is...plain cotton or a blend. I have a lot of really, really pretty eyelet I bought to make things for my dgds when they were little. They're now 25, 22, and 19.If I were ambitious I'd use it to make things for the expected dggd but I have enough to do already so someone else can enjoy the fabric. plus I already got rid of almost all my patterns, most of which had never even been opened
Back to work

gee Ruth, would you consider making some of those quilted bowl covers, sets of them for a charity sale? Not that you do not have enough to do! Somehow we accumulate fabric. I have 2 bins of the stuff too and I need to get rid of a lot. A lot was donated to me....so I can justify getting rid of it a bit easier. Such a blessing that your neighbor is doing your lawn. Yes, it's one of the worst jobs for those with allergies as the mower blade kicks up so much dirt and pollen. Wow your weather can be unpredictabble! Cannot imagine snow in May. 85 degrees in May is too hot for me too. It's been a bit cool here, which is fine by me. Were you able to find the insecticide? I would think Amazon has it. I know I found an insecticide for ticks on Amazon.
Yes, we worked like dogs. My SIL is indecisive and more than happy for someone to do her work for her. We were welcomed as though she was welcoming her servants. Very sad. I am done now, and will not return to work on my MIL's house anymore. I still have some items to dispose of here, because she seemed inept. But I am done and leave it to her to finish and clean. All the furniture is out, so now it's up to SIL to remove Knick knacks and wall hangings. Nothing strenuous for someone who obviously dislikes work.
Gotta make dinner. Hi to Meg, CJ and Phyl. Ginny

Hello Crafters – Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny – Sounds like things went as well as can be expected during the clearing out/moving today. You did your part, now it’s up to your SIL to finish. I’m glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Sounds like the embroidery is coming along. Did you make a Falling Charms quilt? I’m sorry if I missed seeing that.
Thanks for the link to that store, I’ll check it out. I’m sure there were some beautiful quilts there.
For the Solstice quilt, whenever she does a large block, she gives instructions for a 12 inch block too, so I just do the 12 inch blocks each week.
Ruth – I hope you can get rid of the ants. I used to dread when I’d get some in the Spring in my kitchen, but usually a little bit of Raid got rid of the ones I had. I’m sure the Carpenter ones are more of a concern. Enjoy going through that fabric and I hope it gets cooler again for you.
Meg – I’m glad you were able to work on your blanket. Maybe something in the yarn is bother your allergies?
Phyl – Hope you are doing well today I did enjoy the hand quilting last night and the darker blue thread on the light blue fabric looks nice. I’m doing a big stitch quilting, so I’m not that concerned about small stitches, just trying to keep them as even as possible. I really love doing any stitching by hand, it really is stress relieving for me.
I didn’t do any quilting today. It was rainy here and I just wasn’t in the mood. I may do some more hand quilting tonight.
I meant to tell you all that I was watching a TV show the other night - International House Hunters - and the home buyer on there had an really unusual necklace on. It looked like the crocheted collars that you could put around a blouse neck, but it was only half of the collar on a chain. It was very interesting.
Take care everyone!

Hello everyone, It is much cooler here today it is in the 60s and a wee bit windy but very nice. I will be staying ho as DD is here for a few hours.
I did work on the border last evening and I hope it works out. I am not very good at crocheting borders. Then I will wash it and see how it looks. I am also doing the V stitch on the b/blanket. I like the V stitch because it is easy to do and I goes pretty fast.
Ginny, I hope you can enjoy the rest of the weekend and get some rest. Too bad that sil was not of much help and I agree that the rest of the cleaning out should be left to her. I lived here when my fathers house had to be cleaned out and my 2 brothers and their wives took care of that. I am glad I didn't have to work with my DSILs though I appreciate that they did it. I did check out weather .com and it looks like there is pollen everywhere. We have a lot of trees in this area so that could be the cause of the problem.
Ruth when I saw the Dr. last Sat she prescribed prescription drops. Then a couple of days later they called me and told me to stop the prescription drops & just to use the over the counter allergy eye drops which I had been doing before I saw her. Next Thursday I have an appointment at the eye clinic to talk about my cataract. I hope you are feeling rested and that you were able to make up for the sleepless night. I had a restless night so I got up later this morning.
Devin and his mom have gone off for the weekend so it is pretty quiet around here. I don't have any plans so after DD goes back to her care home my time is my own. I will probably crochet and listen to a book. I don't watch TV very much anymore. Perhaps I should get Netflix.
Hi to cj & Phyl.
