Hi!
Hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend! Yesterday, I decided to invite neighbors to wine/cheese tonight. Somehow, these spur of the moment get togethers are easier than planned events. I was actually surprised that these 2 couples are around this weekend.
I always have cheese, cured meats, crackers, bread on hand. Also pates, cornichons, hummus, shrimp. Pates/shrimp kept in freezer. Not sure whether I want to do smoked salmon on potato pancakes or cheesesteak "toasts". I want to keep it easy....
Tomorrow night we're taking my 2nd nephew and his girlfriend out for dinner to celebrate his graduation (and hers). A lot of eating this past week and a lot of social things, starting from SO's brother's visit last weekend. Weight is still at 123.
Still going to gym every day. Holly, I still walk on the treadmill, I usually walk at 4.1mph pace and I do at least 60 minutes, lately I've been trying to do 5 miles. It helps that I can watch netflix or comcast on my phone.

Quiet evening for us last night so we decided to watch the last of The Hunger Games which we had never done---not all that great but at least we did it---The last book waas not my favorite either---moved slowly like this movie!
Yesterday after kickboxing and reset I baked a batch of ginger cookies--I've finally got these down to the perfect recipe---I put more fresh ginger in this time---love that combo of a bit of ginger "heat" with molasses sweetness. They are so nice and chewy-not crisp---taking a plate to our friends for dinner with them tonight--these are the ones who travel the world all summer---they will leave in 10 days so will be fun to hear their advevnture plan for this summer as well as see their Vietnam pics from Christmas time. She;s the one from Holland---they will end their summer there--one of these times we will meet them there.
This morning I worked in the garden for a couple hours--oh my, so hot in full sun. I wrapped all my tomato pots with the silver plastic mulch I bought---will keep the roots cooler. I finally have six cucumber plants up and large enough to move---planted them in two different spots hoping for success--left two of them in the pot by the trellis. I only hope it;s not too late for them to grow and produce--they are supposed to like it warm so there is a chance it will work if they don't die--lately my snap peas and cukes die right after getting big enough to reach the climbing wires. i have so many tomatoes set and they are large, too--that tomato lady really had good recommendations--yesterday I had caprese salad for lunch--OMG, they are so sweet so it was awesome! I bet I have nearly 40 romas formed and growing--some are already big but stil very green.
Went to the store for milk and prior to that to try on some navy tees---picked up about four tops of which I may keep two or all--depending how they look with my summer capris that need a navy top. I have a couple older ones that are still good but they look dated compared to fashions today---being in my 70's no need to have help looking dated!
Sue, you are really busy it seems---you have a lot of friends you dine with--nice.
Holly, did you finish Orphan Train?
Aimee, when I took Jordan home the other day a guy was walking his darling husky puppy--OMG, I thought of you---I really think they are one of the cutest dogs ever!
Guess JoAnne is busy with her son and family being there.

Hi all,
I have a beautiful star jasmine vine on my front porch that was planted by the previous owners. They are painting the buildings and were going come in and cut the vine back. Thankfully, I was able to explain that it is not an invasive vine and got it moved out of the way in time. Basically, they were going to just come in and cut it without knowing what kind of vine it is. That is disturbing to me.
There's a new Anne of Green Gables series on Netflix called Anne with an E. It's good. I love the movie series with Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie. Hard to believe it's been a year since I did the trip to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Need to find a new trip to plan.
Joan, I did. It was a fast read.

Joan- my cucumber plant is growing like crazy. Getting its first blossoms finally.
Spent half my weekend with friends, the other half on the couch asleep. I finally caught this bug going around here. I work 4 hours this afternoon and will come home and be lazy hoping to beat it. I did thaw some 91% ground beef so I'll grill a few burgers for myself and the dogs. No buns needed here!

Hi!
Rainy, dreary day here.
Last night went great. During the little party, we got a call from an ex-client/friend of SO's that we haven't seen in over 10 years. He and his wife, daughter, and her boyfriend were in the area for the fireworks last night. We invited them over and it was fun talking about old times. The building SO did for this guy was the first tower SO did when he came to work at our company.
Joan, my sister is getting into vegetable gardening now. She started off with lettuce and arugula and is having fun. She'll probably do more in the future.
Holly, good thing you were there to stop them from destroying the vine! The association should notify people when work is being done. We get notified of every little thing.
Aimee, sounds like fun and relaxing weekend. Take care, get well soon.
Tonight my nephew and his GF are coming over for a drink before we head out to dinner. Looking forward to going there, have only been there once.
Weight is still 123, so at least it didn't go up after last night. No gym today.

Getting ready to go to the Gym--will do a pilates class and. A yoga taught by my weights teacher----hoping that both are good I have done the pilates one a couple times on sesssion breaks. This may end up being my new Tuesday and thursday routine.
Aimee, I cannot believe how big the white husky is--OMG, were his parents extra large?
Sue, so nice that you have maintained so many connections with people for who you or SO have designed buildings, gone to school with, etc.
Aimee, I have two star jasmine in my entry way---have to prune constantly but during bloom my whole entryway is perfumed. Right now the agapanthas are fully budded out and in a week will be in full bloom--I have fertilized a couple times and wow, am really getting lots of buds this year.
Had my tomatoes as caprese salad again last night---they are so sweet--DH keeps asking what I'm going to do when all the tomatoes start to ripen--we must have 25 tomatoes on each plant---I might have to roast and freeze romas for tomato basil soups.
Made veggie soup yesterday and cooked stock from a chicken carcass---which I froze for later soup. Going to the store for a few supplies after gym so I can make a rodeo salad and have stuff on hand for shrimp cocktail like we had at friends house on Sunday night--was so good and she sent me the recipe. She, BTW, lost 14 pounds just using My Fitness Pal logging--so I started up again using it---did a good job yesterday--will see--this will be my last effort to lose w/o WW meetings.
Holly, thanks for info about Anne with an E---that;s my DGK16's middle name for that reason! Love those books and any movies of them.

Good morning all! Just thought I would check in on this quiet morning. It has been raining ever since the kids have been here - oh well- no way to predict that when you are planning a vacation. Yes, Joan, we are doing the staycation here with them staying at our house.
Sunday us girls went in the afternoon after church to get our nails done. This was the first time I have done it in probably a year! So much fun. My nails had gotten so bad when I was anemic. They broke and splittt terribly. They are just now getting stronger and growing a little. I did a neutral mauve color, more on the brownish side. Pleased with them. The other girls, including DGD5 did pinks. They did fingers and toes. I only did fingers. I can do my own toes, and they need to grow some before I do them - I keep them cut very very short.
Monday we went to the Midevil show and fest. It was so much fun! It is held in a great big arena and everyone is given a crown. You sit at a long table with your party and are served dinner while watching a midevil horse show - jousting and more. The show was spectacular and the horses were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. They were super well trained and quite show horses, grtoomed to a tea. DGD11 caught a rose from the Green Knight and DGD4 caught a banner from him. They were so excited! Our Green Knight won the jousting! Each group with the crown the color of the Knigiht cheered their knight. The food was delicious but everything was server to eat with your hands. The regular meal was a quarter of a chicken, garlic bread, corn on the cob, a half of a roasted potato, and tomato bisque soup. Several of us got the vegatarian meal which was hummus, carrot and celary sticks, and stew that was made with brown rice, potatoes, and three different beans -very tasty- and they did bring us a spoon to eat it with. There was delicious pound cake or a fruit bowl for dessert. DH bought a bottle of white and a bottle of red wine for all of us. The meal was really high on carbs but for one night, it was good.
Yesterday we toured the new SunTrust Park (the new Braves' Stadiun). Quite a beautiful place! Ate lunch there at one of the restaurants in the Village. The Park is surrounded by a whole Village that they have built with apts., condoes, hotels, restaurants, and shopping. All of them are not opened yet. Of course around the stadium is bronze statues of various players (some moved from Turner Field and some new), fountains, etc. They took us through all the special suites, and areas of the Stadium. We went to the batting cages, the duggout, and onto the field too!... They have a memorial garden which highlights the history of the Braves from the 1800's (the oldest baseball franchise)
We wanted to go to Stone Mountain one day but the weather hasn't permitted. Don't know what we will do today. Everyone is up an going now so had better go.
Joan - I want to get a keyboard for my little Ipad too. I have one for my Surface and love it. The Surface keyboard serves as a cover too. I prefer the keyboard too. My typing if fast and good and the touch screen is ackward. I guess all of us that learned on a typewriter mostly feel that way!

Hi!
Finally a nice sunny day although it started off cloudy.
We had a great time with my nephew and his GF. Fun talking about their future paths and they also told us lots of stories of what they did in college.
The food was very good and a great deal, for $39, you get to pick 3 menu items. We shared everything and it was so filling that we had leftover to take home.
Last night a financial advisor came over for drinks. We have a bit of money with him - he used to have more of our money but SO thought it wasn't do as well as it could so why pay a fee and he took most of our money out. He came over to show his record over the past 4-5 years, and it was pretty good. He also gave me some advice on slowly getting my money out of 401k into traditional IRA and then rolling over to Roth IRA, so then I wouldn't have to pay taxes on it later. This works because I'm not earning an income. Made a lot of sense. SO showed him his art and he was very impressed, he might even want to buy something!
Joan, your tomatoes sound so good! I wish I lived close enough to get some from you!
Jojo, glad you are having such a good time with family. I also had my nails done for the first time in a long time for my trip, and they looked so good. Also had another manicure on board the ship. In school we were not allowed to have nails painted.
Too much socializing! Fun but now ready for some calm days. Weight at 123.7 this morning. Will go to the gym, do some errands and chores around the house.

Morning all,
Looking forward to my short trip. I'm stopping in Greensboro first to see family there, then heading to Chapel Hill for my appointment and to see friends. My hearing has been off lately, so it will be good to have some adjustments made to my CIs.
I decided not to do any vegetable plants this year. My patio gets such hot sun that nothing does well for very long. My dad has a garden though. Looking forward to some good tomatoes.
