Duh, I lost my post.
Ruth, well some days we have to take a break from crochetting.....glad you got some reading time in too! I enjoyed reading the story of the man who built the cubby storage for his wife..bet that made for a very happy marriage!
CJ- congrats on getting all your fabric sorted and folded! Bet that is an inspiration to you also, seeing it better organized and grouped by colors! Quite an accomplishment!
the baby quilt was a joint effort between myself and a close friend. She has limited sewing experience, so she made the quilt top from precuts- easy lay out (we worked on the layout together). All along I knew I was going to be quilting the top- and doing the binding- which was satin binding at the baby's mothers request. (My friend is the baby's grandmother). All in all it was a good project and I learned how to stipple. So sorry that the stitches did not come through on the picture....
Have a good evening G

Hello everyone, I have had 2 really lazy days. I should have gone to my Knit Wits gp. today but as Devin was here I had to stay home. I have taken him a few times but he gets bored even though he takes his tablet to have something to do. I did knit a lot yesterday and listened to an audio book. I am almost 1/2 way with my latest b/blanket. So far today I have just been reading but I will knit this evening and listen to an audio book,
Ruth, that may be the pumpkin pie with 1 point. I probably have the recipe but I need to look for it. I am glad that you and your DH don't get cabin fever. I usually am quite happy to stay at home. I have stayed home all this week.
Ginny, I used to keep powdered milk in the house but I haven't in a long time. I don't do a lot of baking or cooking anymore but it would be a good idea to keep it on hand. I will have to check and see if they carry it anymore.
cj, I think we need a 12 step group for compulsive yarn & fabric buyers. I am not as compulsive as I used to be. At one time I had a stash of fabric but I finally gave it all away. Now I just have yarn.
I hope you all have an enjoyable evening.

Ginny, I was going to ask about the binding. I wondered why you put satin on it. It looks really pretty but it must be harder to put it on rather than the usual quilt binding. Not that I ever put satin binding on anything but it just seems like it would be challenging. And how nice of you to help your friend make that. They must have both been thrilled with how it turned out.
Meg, yes I bet Devin would get bored after just sitting with a bunch of people knitting and talking about things he's not interested in. Even with a tablet with him.Congrats on being half way finished with the blanket you just started. I really do have to look into audio books to listen to while knitting and crocheting. To me they just aren't the same as actually reading but, of course, you can't do that while crocheting.

I just went back to look at it again and realized that it's sitting on another quilt. Did you make that one too?

I got this recipe from my weight watchers group. I admit I do prefer traditional pumpkin pie but this is pretty good. All the ingredients are core, too, even though baked goods don't qualify as core due to abuse potential. INGREDIENTS Nutrition

Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine all ingredients. Spray 9" pie plate with Pam. Pour mixture into pie plate. Bake at 400 F for 15 minutes.

Good morning! I grabbed this recipe from food.com.....it sure sounds like what you are looking for. I would replace Splenda with trivia, (it's a natural product) and give it a shot.
Meg, so good to hear from you ! Well, I am sorry you missed Knit wits, but with the holiday weekend, who knows how many people were there. BTW, how is the group adapting to the new meeting location? Glad that you have been able to spend some time home. As I mentioned earlier, it sure sounded like you were doing a ton of running around before Christmas. A week to recuperate is a good thing! When does Devin go back to school? Good job getting half way done with the blanket!
Ruth, nope, that coverlet on my bed is store bought from Kohls. (Good eyes for noticing thought!) So here is the history on the baby quilt. My friend whose grandchildren are the recipients of these quilts, wanted to make something for her GS, the first baby. She had never quilted before and has limited experience in sewing, so I suggested a rag quilt- and told her I would help. My friend picked out the fabrics, from a color scheme she had seen online and we bought some really pretty quilting flannels, to make it nice and soft. For a first time quilt and a rag quilt, I thought it turned out great! Her daughter, the baby's mom NEVER USED THE QUILT- where it sits in a closet. Apparently it was not "good enough". (Really? It's a rag quilt! They are supposed to look funky!). So she becomes pregnant with baby #2, a girl. My friend wanted to make a real quilt- again, knowing her sewing skills- and the amount of time we had to make it- I realized that cutting fabric would not work. We caught a daily special at Missouri star quilting- 5' precuts of baby fabric and bought 3 sets of that. My friend and I worked on the layout....making sure all fabrics were well placed. She borrowed my Dd's machine- and assembled the quilt top. The baby's mom, who you now know is a picky person, insisted on a satin binding. In a way that made it easier for me, as I went to Hobby Lobby (they have a nice assortment of pre made blanket bindings, better than Joanns) and bought the binding.I tried- very hard- to attach the binding in a traditional quilt binding method- and was not happy with the results. I consulted with a dear friend who does a LOT of quilting- and asked her advice.....she saw nothing wrong with attaching the binding with a zig zag stitch- as you would do on a blanket. That is what I did. Hopefully this woman likes this quilt, who I will never make a quilt for again. Yes, she did thank me for the effort, and it is from making that quilt that I learned to stipple. I just find it hard to believe that she is that picky.
Any of us party animals have plans for tonight? Ha ha ha I do.....going to watch a few more episodes of Turn - which I rented from the library. And crochet. Sounds like a good night, eh? Ginny

hi and happy new year, we are back from ky. that was the break. our local news channel was really stressing do not put travel plans on the internet or spread it around to much. they said home invasions in our country are up 14%.course we have heard this before. maybe we need to start listening. we know if they want to get In nothing will stop them.
we did have a good time. by next year Nathan will probably be taller then me.
I don't mind donating overseas. I am from the old school help our back yard out first. we have a group called new hope. this is so teens can keep their babies. our guild makes a lot of quilts for them.
for stitch In the ditch I just use my stitch In the ditch foot. I hardly ever use the walking foot. I did make it to a joann's and got another yard of cinn bangles fabric for Nathan's quilt.
I should go and finish unpacking. we will go for a early dinner tonight. we usually go to bed by 11. not sure I can make it to twelve my sleep pattern got way off . happy new years eve.phyl

Ginny, my dh often says that my hand made things may not be appreciated esp consideriing the time and love put into them and it sounds as though this is what happened with the quilts you made for that woman. A friend made a quilt..I think it was a knitted afgan for a family member and when she went to visit she found it in the dog bed. I won't mention who the person was but she's a wonderful woman who made this because she cared to go to all the work to please these people.
I was thinking of a rag quilt. I even told my snail mail friend that I went to nursing school with way back when that I was thinking of making one She's one of my friends that quilt. Yesterday when I looked into the drawer of the desk where I keep my sewing machine and supplies I saw that i have something called a quilting attachement. It's an odd looking thing and I don't think it's anything that any of you have mentioned.
No I'm not doing anything for NYE either. To me it's just another day. I might watch the ball drop or not. I'm always awake at that time but I may be crocheting. I want to have dgs' afgan made in two weeks to have to start of it which means I will get the shawl made today. The two day thing i mentioned several days ago didn't happen becuase i've spent too much time doing other things.. Some were priorities but others were just plan procrastination. And the shawl is fun to make so between baby blankets for local donation and hats for Caps for Kids I'm going to make a few of thse for the oncology center. That way while people are sitting getting their chemo their shoulders will stay warm and I do have all that pink yarn that Med mentioned. It's the breast cancer color so it will be prefect for that. I'll add some white because the pink is really too pink I think anyway. For the overseas blanket thing I decided just to send a donation to help with shipping costs. It sounds like they have a lot of willing blanket donators so money will be best.
Phyl, welcome back. Yes it's always good to have an alarm system or a neighbor that can keep an eye out because unfortunately home invasions are getting to be more common. Signs of the times.

Hello everyone, It is a cold gray day here though I think the sun is trying to come out. No party for me tonight. My party days are long gone. When my DH was in the USAF we did party on NY and lots of other times especially when we were over seas. I will probably be in bed by midnight here. Though as the east is 3 hours ahead of the west I could bring the NY in with them. I did do some knitting last night and then got tired of it. I should start another b/blanket and crochet it to give me a change of pace.
Ruth, Devin has another week of school. He is pretty good at keeping himself amused. I do get quite a lot of work done while listening to an audio book. I read & listen on my Nook because of my eyesight. I do at times miss a regular book but the Nook is better than not reading at all. I think that I am the person you are referring to who made an afghan. It was a large granny square 50x50 made with Vanna yarn. I took it to Ireland and gave it to my Nephew & his Wife. When I made another trip over there 3 years later they were using it in the dogs bed. I spent a lot of time and money making it so I will not make them anything again. I love my Nephew & his Wife so I did not say anything about it.
Ginny, thank you for posting the recipe for Pumpkin pie. I will give it a try I will have to see if I have the recipe that was so popular with WWs. Sorry your quilts were not appreciated. People just do not understand how much work goes into make something unless they quit or crochet themselves. I don't often make something for another person unless I know they will appreciate it. I have made afghans for people in my immediate family like my GDGs or DS and Devin loves to get his hands on one of my b/blankets.
Phyl, you were missed and I am glad you are back from your trip.
I will try and check back later. Take care be safe.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I finished folding all my fabric and spent this morning organizing it into categories. I had thought about buying containers to put it in, but then I realized that was just a waste of money and put the organized, folded fabrics back into the large 2 gallon ziplog/hefty slider bags I had them in before and labeled them by type. I already had a large plastic container and almost all of the fabric fit in there, so I only need one smaller container for the rest. I also listed all the quilt panels I have - 16 of them!! - and put them all together too. I'm really happy to have gotten all this organized so I can start 2017 fresh and with some new projects. There was only one big project that I had on my list to do last year that I didn't finish, so I would really like to get that done this year. I've lost interest in it, so we'll see. It was so much fun to see fabrics I had bought years ago, and it has energized me to want to use them in projects so I can enjoy the beauty of them. And I made up a list of quilting goals for 2017. I hope to complete at least some of them. Ginny - I can't believe that daughter didn't like the rag quilt. I'd give anything to have something like that made by my mother!!! Glad the second quilt went better and that was interesting how you attached the satin binding - sounds like it worked well. Phyl - Glad you had a good trip and made it home safely. I think you were smart not to post any plans of being gone from your home. I can't believe how many people do that and then get robbed. Meg and Ruth - I really enjoy reading about all the crochet projects you've completed REQUEST - Do any of you know of an easy crochet shawl pattern that I could try? I would be happy with a rectangular one, kind of like a wrap. It would need to be mostly single and double crochet stitches too, since I haven't really done many of the other stitches yet. Thanks I don't have any plans for tonight, I never was one for parties. I'll probably be in bed before midnight but might stay up reading, if I don't fall asleep Hope you all have a good New Years evening!

CJ- try all free crochet.com - they rate their patterns (easy, intermediate etc.....) and you will have no trouble finding an easy shawl pattern. Lionbrand.com also is a super good resource for patterns. They have the same rating system- both sites also have reviews by fellow users, which are very helpful regarding how easy each pattern is to follow. Sorry, I have only crochetted one shawl, and did not really like the yarn or the pattern I used.
Phyl welcome home!!! We missed you!
Ruth, the quilting attachment might be a walking foot, which is an odd looking contraption indeed. Perhaps that is what you have?
Meg- go ahead and celebrate NYE with us on the east coast! That is awful that your nephew was using a hand made afghan in a dog bed!
Got a funny story. My mom made LOTS of granny square afghans. I could not throw any out- even though some are falling apart. One color combo looked kind of strange.....I kept it anyway. Then we got new rugs in the living room- and guess what! The odd color combo granny square matches it perfectly! So there you go.
Will watch a movie at home tonight with Dh and hope to get some crochetting done. Happy New Year! Ginny

Meg, I knew it was you that had the afgan used as a dog bed but i didn't want to put your name on this public board in case you didn't want it out there.
CJ, I agree with Ginny, there are so many really great patterns online and those are good sites to check or you could check Pinterest. I've recently made one shawl and am working on another but they are both in a triangular shape. The first is a complex pattern so I doubt you woudl want that one and the one I'm working on now is nice but it's hard to understand what she means in her row2 instructions. After that the pattern is very easy and pretty too but that row two is a problem and it's necessary for the whole rest of the pattern. There are some very beautiful rectangular shawls and wraps, I think you'll easily be able to find one you like. You might want to google "prayer shawls" many of them are rectangular and very easy.
Maybe that thing that says quilting attachment is the walking foot. I'll have to check again but I think the quilting foot was in a smaller box. This thing seems to have an arm out the side.
Happy new year all!

HappyNew Year!
We did nothing special Last night...watched a few episodes off Turn and then read a bit. Had some trouble sleeping.... But feel pretty good today. I have trouble with Pinterest, guess I am showing my age.....ha ha ha. I find it poorly organized and confusing. The crochet/yarn web sites are great, because you can get specific with the level of difficulty, etc..... Hope to work on the afghan today while watching a football game.
Think today Dh and I are going to make Orange marmalade, our orange tree has a really good crop this year!
Hope everyone has a great day! Ginny

CJ- for Lion Brand.com, you do have to register with them to get free patterns- (you can search for a pattern without registering). THey do also sell yarn on their web site- and all in all its a pretty easy site to negotiate! Hope you can find a good pattern. G

Ginny, yes I like the Lion Site a lot. That's where I got that baby afgan pattern I told you about.
You have an orange tree? It must be inside, right? I didn't know that inside trees would get that many oranges. I remember travelling to Florida one year and the orange trees were are blossoming. Oh, did it ever smell good. And nothing like a fresh picked citrus right off the tree. Tastes nothing like those in the stores.
I'm going to go watch football in a minute too and finish this shawl. No I didn't get it done last night. I ended up just watching tv. Don't know why I didn't get the crocheting out and work on it while watching.
Happy new year to all you dear ladies! I'm so glad I met you. Thank you Meg for telling me about this thread
