We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!

As Pam said yesterday, it's all unraveling . . . Things are not looking good for Tweety and his minions.
Hope you are all looking forward to a better weekend than he is likely to have.

Watching Trump give he commencement speech at Liberty University right now. If Trump was speaking at my graduation I would skip the ceremony. I graduate in three years so hopefully he will be in jail by then and that won't even be a possibility.

hnybny91, I remember when just being able to get a glimpse of the President much less hear him speak in person would have been considered such an honor. Now, I wouldn't want to be anywhere in his vicinity. As Linda says, he's a fake president and not deserving of any of my consideration.

Did you see where students turned their back on Betsy DeVos & boo'd her a week or so ago when she gave a commencement speech. I guess I don't understand the Evanglical community who embrace JA in Chief, yet show such distain & contempt for others who do not believe as they do & try to impose their values on others when it comes to choice, etc. My goodness, JA is so opposite of what they preach in their churches, yet he is invited & cheered at a commencement ceremony. I honestly do not understand people like this...

Yeah, you would think that a three time married self confessed adulterer and pussy grabber would be the opposite of what they idolize but what do I know - I don't even go to church (maybe that is why.)

The difference between Nixon and the JA is Nixon was a politician. Maybe, even at sometime in his life, a statesman. The thug/perv stinking up the Oval Office now is a failed talk show host that enjoyed humiliating people on tv and walking into locker rooms where beautiful women were getting dressed.
He is not qualified to be sitting where he's sitting. It's not normal. He's not normal. I wasn't a huge fan of Nixon, but I can't find it in my heart to even belittle Nixon's memory that much by comparing him to this charlatan.

"I honestly do not understand people like this..."
You can't possibly understand because you are a reasonable, logical, and thinking person. The exact opposite of people like this.
Sadly, I do understand. They have been brainwashed to believe that the Republican Party is the party of their god. God is in control. God works in mysterious ways. God said it. They believe it. That settles it. All they have to do is trust and believe and vote Republican. Don't question. Just have faith and believe and always vote Republican. Because if you support or vote for a Democrat you're turning your back on God. It doesn't matter who the Republican is you will vote for them and believe God is in control. When you cheer the Republican on you're cheering on God as well.
Now, try to imagine if you honestly and truly believed this stuff with all your heart. If you truly believed the Democratic Party is the party of the Devil and the Republicans are the chosen party of God. As a believer could you possibly cast a vote for the Devil, um, I mean for a Democrat?
This is the reason our Founding Fathers fought so hard to keep the state and the church separate! It's also why the Reps/Cons fight so hard to keep the church and the state in bed together.
If you're looking for a logical reason for the way these people behave you're not going to find it. It's not logic. It's a belief system that's cemented in. The GOP knows this! Don't get me wrong that cement can be cracked open and allow Thought, Reason, Logic, and Sanity to return. It's not easy but it can be done.
You can't understand their behavior because you're looking for a logical explanation. There is none!

I agree that there is no logic to any of it, and as a Christian with a devout faith it breaks my heart to see "so called" Christians pervert the very meaning of my faith to embrace that any party is the party of God and to demonize any person. To see them embrace what is clearly not Christian principles because they are told that's what they should do. I don't doubt those people's faith. I know some of them, and their faith is real. The problem is, IMHO, that they have never learned to and certainly never been encouraged to think for themselves. To question what they are told. And so they are blindly led down a path by charlatans who take advantage of their ignorance call themselves Christians even though they in no way exemplify Christianity's principles and proclaim themselves to know the answers. Didn't express that very well, I'm pretty sure.
I raised my daughter in the church. She was involved in youth groups, etc. Heck! I was a youth group counselor for several years. But ALWAYS I taught my daughter and any other kids in my charge that what sets us apart is our ability to reason and think for ourselves. We SHOULD question. If our faith is not strong enough to withstand questioning, then it's not really faith at all but rather fear.
----------
Just got back from a local small town Strawberry Festival with DH. While walking through the festival a very nice woman came up and offered me a political card for some candidate who plans to run for some office here in my county this fall. I very nicely asked her if this person was R or D. She proudly told me he was R. I nicely gave her back the card, and told her politely that after the fiasco we have in the WH now there is no way I will ever consider voting R for any office ever again. She didn't know what to say. I smiled, wished her a good day, and walked on. I can remember the days when I did not vote a straight party ticket. I looked at each individual candidate, and voted as to who I thought would be the best choice for that particular job. Now after this, as I told that lady, there is absolutely no way I will ever consider voting R again for any office. I may vote Independent or I will vote Democrat, but I will not vote Republican. Any party that would tolerate and associate with this JA is not a party that I want any association with whatsoever.

nashville11, I feel the same way. I used to vote for who I felt would be the best person for the job regardless if they were R or D and now I just plan on opening up my ballot and going straight down democrat. I will NEVER vote for another republican EVER AGAIN....PERIOD.

Well said, Joyce. So true.
" Didn't express that very well, I'm pretty sure."
I disagree. Joyce, you always express your self very well and what you just wrote is proof of that. IMHO, these people are religious...not spiritual. You are a spiritual person. They aren't.
I'm sure I posted this quote already but here it is one more time with feeling. lol.
"Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions."
Blaise Pascal

birdgal, Pat, "IMHO, these people are religious...not spiritual." I think that's a perfect way to describe it!

It all just makes me incredibly sad. At least that's the feeling I'm awash with this morning. Somedays I'm so angry I can't be in the same room while the TV is on and end up screaming at it and husband. This past week I was able to find some amusement in the absolutely insane unraveling of orangeman and his cronies and enjoyed the late night comics and their funny analysis.
But now I'm just sad... sad for my country, my children and grandchildren who will suffer long after I'm gone with the consequences of what this buffoon daily has been doing. (Just this week he let salt, and sugar back into school lunch programs guaranteeing more childhood obesity and illness).
Just sad...

Happy Mother's Day! 😊
It's a sunny, blue sky, but windy kind of day here. I was going to work in the yard today rather than go to the Nursing Home ( 2 hours from here) for a Mothers Day Party. Everything I know about gardening, I learned from my Mom. When she moved out of her home into assisted living many years ago, I dug up some perennials from her yard & transplanted them in my yard. I think of her everytime I weed around those flowers or see them bloom. I also did the same for some of my Mother in Laws perennials. I call them my Hertitage flowers. So thinking playing in the dirt today would be a good way to remember both Mom & MIL. But, my sister texted & said that Mom is no longer eating or drinking & seizing more, so we are going over to see Mom & visit with my Sister. The end is very near for Mom now. I sure hope so. Today's visit will make me sad & happy at same time. I try hard to picture my Mom as she was not as she is now. This misery of Alzheimer's needs to be over for her. I didn't mean to make this a sad post, Its more that Alzheimers is such a wicked & ugly disease that steals the dignity of so many wonderful people & turns them into people you no longer recognize mentally or physically. I really am hoping we are near the end for her sake. I said my goodbyes to Mom a long time ago when she could communicate, even tho she hasn't recognized me for many years. She kept thinking I was her Mom. I was more than happy with that knowing it gave her comfort. Anyway, I wish you all a pleasant relaxing day with many happy memories of your Mom...ENJOY your day 😊
