1960 Senator John F. Kennedy is elected the 35th President
1965 Higher Education Act - The HEA, first signed into law in 1965, is supposed to be renewed every five years. However, the last reauthorization was in 2008, and it has been running on a series of temporary extensions ever since. The Higher Education Act was part of President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society domestic agenda. Johnson chose Texas State University (then called "Southwest Texas State College"), his alma mater, as the signing site. The law was intended "to strengthen the educational resources of our colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary and higher education". It increased federal money given to universities, created scholarships, gave low-interest loans for students, and established a National Teachers Corps. The "financial assistance for students" is covered in Title IV of the HEA.

Today is Election Day and I hope everyone does get out and vote if you haven’t done so. Fred and I voted a few weeks ago and had no line. Wonder how long the lines will be today.
Today Bailey goes for her new Libre and I hope this is the last time as if it shows the numbers are in the good range she won’t need to have it again. Hope so as $300 every other month is starting to strain the budget. I want to just cry when I take them out in the mornings as since neither one can really see they are afraid of falling so very hesitant about going out the door. Then when they’re in the yard they stick real close to each other and Bailey will put her head on Bridgette’s back which I think reassures them both. But the worst thing is when I go to pet them and they jump and start trembling as they don’t see me and talking to them does not prepare them to have me touch them. This morning when she was coming back in Bridgette fell all the way back down the porch steps. She wasn’t hurt but definitely shook up and then when she came in her legs gave out on her and down she went but she did get back up. I hate this as sometimes I think it’s time but other times except for her sight she seems fine. Her day is pretty much spent eating and sleeping and then being confused and walking into things. But if I cook beef or chicken she bounces around barking like a puppy. But Fred said it’s just her being driven by food as once she’s had some she’s back on her dog bed fast asleep. Like I said I hate this as with my other three dogs there was no asking if it was time, I knew it was as did the vet.
Fred told me last night I’ll probably see the blood moon if I look outside at 4:15 this morning. This is what I found to explain the blood moon. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth casts its shadow completely over a full moon, blocking reflection of all direct sunlight from the lunar orb and dimming the color of the moon to a reddish hue, hence the term "blood moon." I hope I can see it as I’ve already taken the dogs out and the moon was just very bright.

Sandy I am enjoying the riddles I don't I don't guess because it just wouldn't be right if I got it and then nobody else would have a chance but I still have fun with them and I know today's but I'm not gonna say. You are doing a great job
Today I am so very thankful because it's raining.. It has rained all day and already half the night. California really really is desperate for rain.
Today I will make my crock pot full of vegetables soup.. I dearly love a vegetable soup and this way I can freeze several containers for when I don't wanna cook and I have the yen for vegetable soup...
Making a grocery order for Wednesday after the optamslogist appt..surr hope they dont mrdd up like last time.

Kathie. I think maybe the reason Jim sleeps so much is because he has so much pain
Both pain medication and pain can exhaust a person. I know when i have IBS the pain and cramps are so severe it just takes everything i have. Then when they sobside i just fall asleep like a drunk person.
Just a thought.

I don't have a guess for the riddle.
I remember President Kennedy. He was young to be president.
I need to buy groceries but this is a do nothing day, I think. My neuropathy treatments take up so much time.
Sandy, you will know when it is time for your doggies. Sad.

Jenny, I love soups. I particularly love a good vegetable soup. It's funny because my son doesn't much like soups at all and it's probably one of my favorite foods. When I had my knee surgery my neighbor would bring me different types of soups that she would make and she tends to put barley or similar types of things into her soups.
Each soup was different and unique and each was totally delicious!
I learned a long time ago that you can put a big pot of soup in the oven to cook versus the stove top which seems to be less of a mess. I also like to use the Crock-Pot at times for soup...
It's going to be that type of year isn't it? Good soup weather!

Jenny, I know how thankful you are for the rain. You were in a worse draught than we were.
My guess: bad luck when you don't see the black cat in the dark and stumble over it.
Doing one of my treatments. The chiropractor told me my neuropathy can be cured in 18 months.
I don't follow a recipe for soup. I just dump.

Good morning.
Wind is cold this morning but of course Ozzie doesn't care so we went for a half hour walk. Think by the weekend I'm going to have to get my winter coat ready. It's just hanging in the front closet but haven't had to wear it yet.
Today I plan on going to get bird seed. The little birds are looking for food to keep them warm. Probably get something for the squirrels too. They like peanuts and the black sunflower seeds. Nothing else on my list for the day.
Sandy, it is so hard to see a much loved pet decline. Guess we need to look at their quality of life to determine whether it's time to let them go. Our last dog (before Ozzie) went from doing well to all her systems failing within a week/ten days. It was time to let her cross the rainbow bridge and be a healthy dog again. We had her for 12 years, raised from a puppy, so it was very hard for us.
My circadian rhythm is all messed up because of the time change. Wish they'd just leave it alone. Election day today. Get out and vote if you haven't already done so.

Sandy, I think your riddles are wonderful! Usually I ponder all day about them -- off and on. Thank you! Those poor little dogs! So sad. And I'm sure it breaks your heart that they don't know you when you pet them.
We have had a little rain, too, Jenny. That is so very nice. We need a long stretch of rainy weather, but we'll take anything we can get. Your soup sounds wonderful.
Our weather is still quite warm, but Friday is to be cooler and then the next several days. It's almost baking weather. Who knows what winter will be this year? Lucy, what do you think.
Lucy, I really hope your neuropathy gets better. Maybe you caught it early enough to make a difference.
This evening, we'll go out with DD and family for dinner. Pizza, of course.

Good guess Lucy but not correct.
Bridgette and Bailey both chose spots in the sun and are fast asleep. Fred messed up with Bailey’s insulin shot this morning and really hurt her. Since I was holding her head she did snuggle into me to have me help her pain so I gave her an extra treat and got a kiss on my nose as a thank you.

My laundry is in the dryer. I voted by mail. I got my new Voter's card in the mail yesterday. They do in person voting in our clubhouse, but I don't often go into the clubhouse - too many cases of Covid. Answer to riddle when you are a mouse? (I googled it!) It's sunny and 52 degrees outside.

More information on the moon early this morning. I did not see it!! I was tucked up in bed sound asleep, thank goodness have not been sleeping well lately!! A lunar eclipse appeared in the sky above Chicago Tuesday morning as the moon passed into the Earth's shadow. The total lunar eclipse was visible throughout North America in the predawn hours - the farther west, the better - and across Asia, Australia and the rest of the Pacific after sunset. Totality lasted nearly 1 1/2 hours - from 4:16 a.m. to 5:41 a.m. Central Time- as Earth passed directly between the moon and sun. Known as a blood moon, it appeared a reddish-orange from the light of Earth's sunsets and sunrises. At the peak of the eclipse, the moon was 242,740 miles away, according to NASA scientists. It's the second total lunar eclipse this year; the first was in May. The next one won't be until 2025.  |

Today I am thankful for all of you! It is something to look forward to each day to check and see what you are doing and how you are. Most days I really do not have a lot to take care and that is a pleasure.
Got gas this morning and the main road to town was a mess part of it was one lane as they are cutting down trees under the underpass below the RR tracks bridge. It needed done but honestly was a traffic problem and long wait for your turn to go. But then the other lane had a long wait as well and I would not want to be those cutting the trees right beside the road on a hill besides!! Crazy!!
Decided not to drive back that way and needed to stop at the library for a couple of books waiting on me, ( umm didn't realize I had 2 reserved.== must have been a long waiting line for the one) I took long way around and enjoyed that ride. Sun is super bright!! and hard to realize another tropical storm heading for east side of Florida, hope it doesn't turn into a hurricane. It is blue skies and just a breeze today and everyone really loving this fall this year.
Kathy, love our November blanket. cute idea saving one turkey just for our entertainment. Sorry Jim is worrying you, know it must be ongoing every day one thing or another. I know you do sometimes allow Jim a desert so NO you are not mean. You are doing an awesome job and being so tired most of the time does not help. May today be a better day.
I don't make home made soup for one!! but when I did I also did in a pan in oven, also chili and my home made spaghetti sauce, lot of less cleaning and easier and taste the same. I am not a crock pot fan but have been known to use one. I couldn't regulate either too much liquid or not enough. I still have one and will use it now and then. French onion soup was the best thing I ever made in it. Came out right everytime.
I am making egg salad for sandwiches this week. Kind of woke up hungry for them.
