Do we still have a diabetes thread ? If so. could you tell me the Folder and what the thread is titled ? A friend of mine has to follow a very strict plan and I was looking for help with meal planning ideas or websites. Thanks! I could only find one post in the Health Folder titled diabetes with 2 posts that asked the same question. I thought Zazzles had started a thread but I can't find it.

DebDoesWW, as I recall you opted to create the Health & Fitness folder in lieu of foldes for individual conditions. When we had the Diabetes folder there just wasn't any traffic.

zazzles, thanks. I thought we had the same setup over on the other one. A health board with different medical issues listed. Maybe I didn't copy it over because it went unused. As you all know, Anyone can start anything here. So if you guys want to start a thread be our guest.

A friend of mine has to follow a very strict plan and I was looking for help with meal planning ideas or websites. The American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org) offers lots of information. They also have a web site on which they sell support items, including cookbooks and meal planning guides (http://www.shopdiabetes.org/meal-planning.aspx?loc=util-header_shop&source=dorg). Diabetes Forecast has a web site and pubishes a magazine; I get their magazine electronically free through my library using the Zinio application. (http://www.diabetesforecast.org) My favorite cookbook author for healthier cooking is Marlene Koch. She has has a blog (http://marlenekoch.com) which has a bunch of recipes from her cookbooks. Her motivation for developing recipes was a stepdaughter who is diabetic; she wanted recipes for her framily that would permit the girl to grow up not feeling like she was deprived. Finally, if your friend hasn't been offered a session with a Dietitian who is a Certified Diabetes Educator she should ask her doctor for a referral. They are experts at helping diabetics adjust their diets and teaching them how to plan meals and snacks that keep everything in balance.

Mike, thank you so much ! I will pass the info on to her.
Her situation is a bit unique as her diabetes (she has to take insulin shots it's so bad) is induced by steroids she needs to take because of the chemo treatment she is getting.
She was told she can have 3 daily meals. She wasn't sure about a snack. Each meal has a limit of 50 carbs and 12 sugar. They also told her no dairy, egg whites only and no meat only fish. The only sweetener allowed is stevia. Fruit is only allowed when accompanied by a meal or something like an apple with a bit of peanut butter
She has scheduled an appointment with a dietitian.
I'll check your links to see if they can provide food ideas.
Thanks again, Mike !

The first one, like mine, wondering where the diabetes thread went. Maybe it would be a good idea to keep a folder for useful info. Maybe Mikes post, with all the links and info he provided can be put there for future reference. Thanks !

I was surprised when I discovered this title, which we listed on Amazon because it was worth $8: Diabetic Living Diabetes Meals by the Plate: 90 Low-Carb Meals to Mix & Match. It looked interesting to me, but I've curbed the acquisition of cookbooks as I already own several hundred!

Thank you deb.
I think with the new WW, we all could benefit from cutting down on processed carbs and sugar. So even though I don't have diabetes, I still find the food tips very useful.
Thanks, Zazzles & Deb !
