We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!

So Bannon is going to head up Tweety's "war room" on the Russia connection. Well, that fits as I'm sure he was involved in everything up past his eyeballs, and he's smart. But too much is leaking out. A little more every day until it's soon going to become a flood of information, and Bannon's finger in the dike is not going to keep the water from rushing through and carrying them all out of office.
The arrogance of Jared in trying to set up that back channel of information through the Russian embassy is almost beyond belief. These people truly believe they should rule the world, and I really believe they would happily sell us all down the river if it made them a penny's worth richer. For some people, having money is all that matters, and these people don't care how they make it as long as the numbers keep growing.
I was really pleased when a special counsel was chosen to investigate, but in listening to last night's news it seems that Tweety has the power to fire the special counsel. Then I remembered that yes, Nixon actually did fire the special prosecutor. Tweety is arrogant enough to try and do the same. I don't think it would bode any better for him, however, than it did for Nixon. I'm just ready to get this fiasco over with. Will we be better off with Pence? Who knows, but surely we can't be worse off.
Fox news played to the lowest instincts of many people telling them over and over how they were being held down by the Democrats, people of color, anyone who is not straight or looks just like them. Then Tweety came along and capitalized on that by making these same ignorant people feel that it was ok to express feelings of hatred, bigotry, misogyny, etc. We're seeing the flames of it all across the country, and I don't know if we will ever be able to repair it or not. There was a time when I thought that our country could never sink to the depths of Germany in WWII. But I don't believe that any longer. We evidently learned nothing from history, and we've allowed the basest elements of our society to not only take hold but to start to flourish.
Depressing isn't the word for it. Scary!!

Thanks for sharing that Linda! How cute! And, oh, I can so relate to her frustration. I want "Marack" Obama and Hillary too.

Just read where when Tweety touched down at the Air Force Base in Italy, he walked off Marine One to the theme song from the movie Air Force One. Too bad for us that it wasn't Harrison Ford who actually got off the plane.

Good morning everyone!
On the good news front for the day, it's DH and my 23rd wedding anniversary! Twenty-three years ago the world was a much nicer and friendlier place. Bill Clinton was in the WH with Hillary by his side. We truly did "still believe in a place called Hope." Life was filled with exciting prospects.
On the bad news front, we now have an abomination in the WH who has surrounded himself with a totally inept and very likely corrupt staff. The world is no longer a friendly place, and even the most optimistic among us is finding it harder and harder to truly feel hope. I am an eternal optimist, however, so I refuse to let hope completely go.
Can someone explain to me how since this administration keeps telling us how important it is to reinforce friendships with Russia, it is somehow not important to reinforce friendship with the Muslim world? For almost two decades the Secretary of State has hosted an event in recognition of Ramadan, yet now, Tillerson suddenly decides to break with that tradition. Which to me just sends a very negative signal. I can see no rhyme or reason which can possibly be constructive behind this decision. Had the tradition never been started at all, fine. But it is a tradition, and the world knows that it is a tradition so to suddenly break with it is sending exactly the wrong signal, IMHO.
Hope you are each enjoying your holiday weekend, and that it is not raining on your parade. Lots of rain in my corner of the world.

Joyce- a very HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and your sweetie. Are you gonna renew his contract? Linda- I am checking the hammock every morning to see if you have landed in it yet...... About the JA situation, I think I am going to give myself a 2 day vacation from it.........too much of a bad thing is too much sometimes. Pattybird- you talking about the L.I. Ferry brings back memories of my youth and when the kids were young, that was a summmer thing to do along with the Playhouse in Westport. The sound was not the high seas, but at least it was salt water. lol Thx. Looks like Pinky got her correct handle back. I have one package of cornedbeef left in the freezer.....I had better make it before the weather gets too hot. We can eat on it for the rest of the week...... Is it still too cool to plant the tomatoes and basil? I wintered over the rosemary, put it on the back porch and it had a hissy fit.......geezzzzzzzz already.

Dan Rather.........
Dear President Trump, Their names were Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and Ricky John Best. One was a recent college graduate. The other was an army veteran and father of four. I wish we would hear you say these names, or even just tweet them. They were brave Americans who died at the hands of someone who, when all the facts are collected, we may have every right to call a terrorist. A third brave man, Micah David-Cole Fletcher, was wounded in the knife attack. This story may not neatly fit into a narrative you pushed on the campaign trail and that has followed you into the White House. They were not killed by an undocumented immigrant or a "radical Islamic terrorist." They were killed in an act of civic love, facing down a man allegedly spewing hate speech directed at two teenage girls, one of whom was wearing a hijab. That man seems to have a public record of "extremist ideology" - a term issued by the Portland Police Bureau. This "extremism" may be of a different type than gets most of your attention, or even the attention in the press. But that doesn't make it any less serious, or deadly. And this kind of "extremism" is on the rise, especially in the wake of your political ascendency. Most people who study these sorts of things do not think that is a coincidence. I do not blame you directly for this incident. Nor do I think other people should. But what a President says, who he has around him, and the tone he sets can set the tone for the nation at large. Perhaps Portland, Oregon is off your radar. It is, after all, a rather liberal place. It's even a "sanctuary city." But it is still an American city. And you are its President. Two Americans have died leaving family and friends behind. They are mourned by millions more who are also deeply worried about what might come next. I hope you can find it worthy of your time to take notice.

Thanks Linda! Love the Dan Rather piece. The senseless killing of these two brave men and the third who was wounded is heartbreaking, and I do lay it at the JA's feet. He has fostered this intolerant miasma of hatred. Where is he to speak out against this? No where to be found when it doesn't further his personal agenda.
