ksbruns America's Test Kitchen tested beans and decided that canned beans were as good as, and in some cases, better than cooking beans from scratch. Their #1 choice for a white bean is Goya Cannellini beans. They cost a little more but boy, are they good. I use them anytime I want a white bean. They are a little larger than great northerns but have a creamy texture that we love. Linda, you would have laughed to see me in the (crowded) grocery googling beans...wouldn't you know that the Goya cannelloni beans were only in the big can (which I was NOT going to commit to!), so reading about northern and navy vs. cannelloni (how did we live without google??) Great Northern won. Who knows, I never ate a bean except a green bean in my life until WW's, and now black beans are high on my list of favorites. Maybe I'll be buying the big can before you know it.

CHILI 1 chopped onion 1lb ground turkey (or beef if you prefer) 2 cans Rotel tomatoes 1 can tomato sauce 1 can diced tomatoes 1 can white beans 1 can black beans 1 16 oz bag cole slaw mix Brown turkey (or beef) with chopped onion. Add all ingredients to crockpot and simmer all day. Okay, this was the bomb, we both loved it. I actually did sortof combine it with www.skinnytaste.com/crock-pot-3-bean-turkey-chili-3125-pts/, but used Rotel rather than adding the green chilies. I used 3 beans, Great Northern, Black, and Small Red, and added the chili powder and cumin, so a bit of a merge, but we both loved the coleslaw mix, and next time I'll be brave and add the whole bag, LOL. Using the SkinnyTaste recipe also helped me point it out, although since I didn't used the super lean turkey, I had to run it through the recipe builder. Highly recommended! Pat, I laughed at you using Rotel in your recipe. When J and I left the South in 1998, we had to have Rotel and Ranch Style Beans (serious ugh) shipped to us by J's parents. I can still remember how excited I was when we returned to the NE in 2015 that Rotel was everywhere...but impressive that you had tried it in MA and NJ!

ksbruns & pbnj Kathy, thanks for the thumbs-up review of the chili with slaw in it. You've lived in Texas so I think you would let us know if slaw was a "no go". Pat, you've inspired me to try the recipe. Thanks for telling us about it. Chili can feel a little heavy to me because it's nothing but meat and I like the idea of the slaw adding some variety to it. I like how Kathy combined it with beans. I know beans in chili is considered blasphemous in Texas but I've always like beans in my chili! Kathy's recipe reminds me of Taco Soup that I make all the time. I will definitely add the cole slaw mix next time. Being brave is a 2017 goal of mine and I think this is a good place to start! Thanks Pat and Kathy! Linda, in my past life, I was the kind that would leave the pile of beans in the bottom of the bowl...amazing to me that I would enjoy this so much, truly an NSV. And thanks for the huge tip on the Goya. I love the brand of black beans I get an WF's, but these were very tasty; interestingly enough, the red beans were higher in points than the white and black.

I've actually used black, white, red, pinto beans..depending what I have at the time. But I like the black and white the best. I think the Cole slaw adds a nice thickness too it and keeps it from being too "meaty.
