Good morning fellow crafters!
Today is Memorial Day, a solemn day of gratitude for those who lost their lives in the service of our great nation. It is also a day to remember those who served, and by the grace of God went on to live the rest of their lives outside of service in the armed forces.
I hesitate to say "thank you for your service"- it seems so superficial, almost like "have a good day". But yet, as a day of remembrance, if you are a veteran or married to a veteran it is a day in which we should be thankful for their selflessness and the selflessness of their families. Both my dad and my Dh were drafted- and indeed I humbly and proudly and thankful for their sacrifice and the years of their lives given up to keep our nation strong. Ginny

Good morning!
Think we all have busy days in which its an effort just to check in and say hello. I am not offended one bit should anyone have one of those drive by visit days- I am just happy to hear that you are ok and able to stop in to say hello! And for me, as wacky as my life can be, there are times in which a drive by visit is the best I am going to do- I am thankful that you are all gracious enough to accept that.
Ruth- I have made 5 or 6 baby afghans of a pattern that calls for the reverse single crochet to finish the afghan. I have a fair amount of experience with it. And every time I use that stitch I find if feels funny. BUt you are right, once you get the swing of things, it flows....suggesting that Meg check it out on YouTube is a great idea. I make that afghan a lot because it is mindless- and looks pretty. Its a large afghan too, mostly white and with a chain stitch color stripe added after its done. The finishing touch is that reverse single crochet. Well, I am not hoping that you have this condition- but if it can be well controlled and go into long long periods of remission. Hope this weeks tests go well...you know I am praying for you.
Meg, you knitting wonder you! Glad that the booties are going so quickly for you. Were you able to finish them last night? Nice to hear that you had a good visit with Dd- its so important that the medications are balanced out- right meds at the right dose. That can make all the difference in the world. Is your book a good one?
Well, I pretty much finished straightening up what I wanted to. Well sort of. Got a lot of stuff from my mom and MIL put away and got rid of a lot of paperwork that can be disposed. Now have to straighten up the area- I still have 2 boxes of pictures that I must go through- a ton are unmarked....they are from my mom. Gotta try to make some sense of them....and I plan on taking a bunch of them out to my sister when I attend my nieces wedding in October.
Indeed I have looked at that embroidery.....not gotten to do any work on it today.
Hi to Phyl and CJ. Ginny

Yes it is indeed a day of remembrance and thankfulness. And yes, it does just sound superficial to say "thank you" but we know that our thankfulness comes from our hearts. My father, most uncles, all my brothers and my son all served their country.Thankfully none were killed or seriously injured.
Ginny, you're right about that. The reverse single crochet sure is not easy like the "regular" single crochet. It doesn't just flow like regular crocheting.
Having those things sorted must be a relief. I like when things are finally organized too. And, although you didn't get to embroider yet, now that other stuff is done and you can embroider without feeling as though you should be going thru those things.
I agree that Meg is a knitting whiz. She is definitely a great knitter and she's not afraid to try new things.Who says we older people can't use a computer and learn,

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I had family who served too and I worked for 33 years with the military, so I appreciate their service too. I'm very fortunate not to have lost a family member during their service. Ginny - Glad you got things straigtened up. Paper clutter just multiplies doesn't it? I find I have to constantly work to keep it under control. Ruth - Hope you are feeling better and the tests go well,. Meg - Sounds like you are busy with our projects, I hope you can get the border done the way you want to do it. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I finished the Solstice Block today, this one was very easy and quick to put together. Only 2 more left and then it will be time to put the quilt together. I also pressed some fabrics that I had bought at the last quilt show I went to. It was a package of 18 Fat Eights of fabric. The patterns are kind of 1930s, but the colors are brights - reds, blues, yellows, greens. I'm thinking about cutting them into squares and then framing them with another fabric and sewing the blocks together. I just have to think about it a little more before I decide. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon to all who join us this memorial day.
Ginny, thank you for your tribute to military members and their families.
Devin and his Mom are still up at Lake Tahoe but should be home later today. DGD#1 phoned this morning so had a long chat with her. They have been in Florida a year now and have made friends with their neighbors. I had worried that she might be home sick but she seems quite happy there.
I really am not a great knitter most of what I knit is easy. At one time I knit sweaters for my kids but there is no longer a need for kids sweaters. Actually I am enjoying learning how to crochet. The first slipper bootie went well but I made a mistake with the second one and when I was correcting it the needle came apart. I was using the needles that you can change the length of the cable and the needle part screws on to that. I have a set of theses needles and cables. So I am going to have to rip back and pick up the stitches. I don't really like these needles and rarely use them and I think I will get rid of them. They are expensive to buy. I will go to the store and get bamboo which I like to knit with. I have a lot of needles but just not what I want.
The book I have been listening to is Book #1 Devils Brood Triology by Stephanie Laurens. I will be starting a new book today.
Good for you getting rid of some more stuff. I have trouble even getting started.
Ruth, I did go to UTube and check out the reverse crochet and it does make a nice edge. I am going to have to sit here and practice it and see if I can do it. It does look complicated but I will give it a try. We are never too old to learn. I think you are very good at doing it.
I need to get myself dressed and go to the store and buy another needle to finish my booties. I have lots of needles but I want to use a bambook cable needle. I do have several sizes but not what I need now.

CJ, good work in getting that square for the week done. It also sounds like your plan for all the fat quarters is a good one. You are a very creative person
Meg, I think I might have given the impression that the reverse single crochet is not hard but it actually is hard. It's not complicated but the hard part is manuvering your crochet hook and keeping the yarn from coming off. I don't know if Ginny has that same problem that that's my problem.
I have a small set of those knitting needles you mentioned but I haven't even tried working with them because I'm heard a lot of people saying just what you said,,that they come apart. These were given to me by one of the Caps for Kids leaders. I don't even know what sizes they are but I do think there's only two or three pieces. I should just donate them. I'll probably never use them.
Today so far I've worked on dh's scarf for just a short time but I did organize my beads and buttons and gadgets for use in making crochet jewelry. So now that that's done I can go back to the scarf and get those booties on needles ready to go out Wed.
Thank you Ginny, for the prayer and than you also Meg, and CJ for your good wishes and concern
Meg, I'm glad to hear that your dgd is happy in Florida. I'm sure she misses you and everyone "back home" but it's great that she has adjusted and made friends.
Funny that you mentioned that kids' sweaters are no longer needed. I thought kids didn't wear sweaters anymore but one of my grandaughters mentioned sweater as a possibility of something she would like me to make for her. I would have no idea of what size and it would have to be a crochet one because my knitting ability, which is very limited, doesn't extend to sweaters.

Ruth- glad you were able to organize those beads and buttons- which will surely make future crafting with them easier! Its also helpful just to see what you have...taking a mental inventory. Lots of times good ideas just come from organizing the craft supplies as you reconnect with what you have on hand.
Meg- absolutely do not short yourself! You are a better knitter than I am, for sure!!! I give you a ton of credit for all the different projects you take on. So good to hear that DGD is doing well in Florida. I remember that you were concerned late last summer, wanting to get something for her as a gift....not knowing what she needed living so far from you. Hope that the rest of your day was peaceful- until Devin got home!
CJ-congrats on getting the next solstice block done! Keep on staring and rearranging those fabrics you ironed today. We all know that sooner or later they will "talk" to you and you will figure out how to use them.
So while doing a Leslie Swanson DVD my mind got going on how I "need" a basket to put my remotes in in the family room. After a moment or two of thought, wondering if I could repurpose a basket from elsewhere in the house, I thought Duh.......make a quilted basket! So, I will at some point have to go thru my fabric stash and see if there is a pretty fabric that will work in that room. hope so!
Got a few minutes in embroidering. Also got a lot of stuff put away better than it was. Next.....ugh.....I have to go thru mom's pictures and try to make some sense of them. I at least want to have them sorted, sort of, so that I can take some out to my sister in the fall.
Good night all Ginny

Ginny, what a great idea about the remotes! I have to use two for my tv because the main tv remote for some reason won't program to turn the tv on and off so I have to use one for the tv, the other for the box for the satellite. And then there's the one for the vcr/dvd player that I also do video's by Leslie in.I'm not sure why the remote wouln't program. I've done several of them before and they all worked fine. I tried it at various time and repeatedly.
Pictures, right. My grandmother had a whole lot of pictures. I ended up with them being the oldest but some aren't labeled and I have no idea who the people are so am seriously thinking of throwing them away. There's no one else still alive that would know.

Good morning!
Ruth, i agree, unless there is some way to figure out who is in the pictures, I would discard them. That is what I will be doing- when I get to that project. First i have to sort by family- then try to evenly distrbute them among my kids and my sisters family. Not a fun project. Yup, more fun is going through fabric to see if I have something that will work for a remote basket. I might make some for gifts too.....
off to work. BBL. Hi To Meg, CJ, and Phyl GInny

Good morning Ginny, Ruth, Phyl & cj.
I was up early this morning as I had to take Devin to school. The sun is shining and there is a light breeze. The temp. today in the low 80s.
I worked on the 2nd bootie last night. I had to transfer it on to a different needle and pick up dropped stitches. Then I started knitting and discovered that there was something else wrong with it. but I kept going and it is finished. I don't know why I had so much trouble with it. Using 2 strands of carron one pound made it difficult when decreasing zmd I had trouble with the needled so if I do another pr. I will use different yarn and the bamboo circular needle I bought yesterday should work. I have knit these booties so many times I know the pattern by heart. Now I just have to sew them together.
St Jo Anns yesterday I bought some grey yarn as I would like to try it as I see a lot of patterns using grey even b/blanket patterns . Grey goes well with so many colors.
I have lots of old photographs. I do know a lot of the people but my DS and DGDs wont have a clue as to who they are. Actually I have pictures taken by my DH and I when we were in the military and I cant remember who the people are or where they were taken.
I had a discussion with Devin on the way to school this morning about why some homes had flags and other didn't. We had to buy a new flag last week but we did have our flag flying.
Now I need to take care of some chores. I wish you all a good day. I will check back later.

Good afternoon all. It's just past noon here and is a beautiful day with a perfect temp and sunshine.
Meg, It's always frustrating when we have to correct something that has gone wrong. I'm not real good at correcting things when knitting. Yes there is a lot of gray in baby items now and it really works. It looks very nice so it makes me wonder why no one thought of it before. I guess they just didn't think it was a baby color.
I've pretty much discarded all the pictures I had of former neighbors or people I met while traveling. They don't really mean anything to me now. I've also discarded a lot of the ones that were just scenery. Many of the places I took pictures look the same or they are pictures that you can see online so why have them cluttering up my house. I did try scanning all my pics but I have way too many and also my scanner doesn't work...well it might work but the computer it was on bit the dust and dh hasn't connected it to the new one yet and tried it and I'm not pushing him to do it. It's not that important to me.I have the important ones.
I think some people didn't fly their flag because they're protesting the current administration. It's a slap in the face to all our service people when they do that. These are the same people that told us that we still had to respect our government and the office of the president when we had O in there and didn't like him or his policies.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - A quilted fabric basket for your remotes sounds like a great idea. Glad to hear you are getting some embroidery done. Meg - Gray is a very popular color with quilts right now too. It does blend well with other colors. Hope the bamboo needle and different yarn works for your booties. Ruth - Glad to hear you got some work done on your scarf and some organizing done. Phyl - Hope you are doing well I have a lot of pictures too. My father had spent a lot of time putting them into photo albums and I think he wrote on the back of some of them which helps identify people. But I'm sure I have lots that just need to be thrown out too. Like you've said nobody is around that knows who the people in them are anymore I went out and did grocery shopping and errands today so no quilting for me. I'd like to work some more on my hand quilting, but I have to be in the right mood for that. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
Meg. The baby afghan I completed in January had white, blue and grey. The colors worked really well together. Congrats on getting through the second bootie- hope that they are keeping your feet warm soon. A reliable pattern is like an old friend- and is very comforting to work from. We bought a new flag this year also. Its sad that some do not know how to fly the flag, leaving it out without being illuminated at night and in all kinds of weather.
Ruth, Praying that tests go well for you. I do the same thing with scenery pictures- the professionals take better pictures than I do, so why keep them unless there is something unusual about it, or something commemorative.
CJ- well we do need to run errands and as much fun as quilting is, its ok to take a break from it! You are fortunate that your dad did mark some pictures for you. My mom got to a few, not too many. So the task falls on me, the baby of the family who would be least likely to remember faces from a long time ago! Hope that you get your quilting time in tomorrow.
Got a few minutes of embroidery in. Hope to get a little more in as soon as I get dressed for bed and comfy.
Hi to Phyl-
Have a great night!
Ginny

CJ, yes there are things that have to be done that take us away from crafting. Also we do sometimes need a break.
I was lucky in the picture dept because I was the oldest child and the oldest grandchild in the whole family so if anyone would recognize people in pictures it woulld be me. I'm also the one that aunts and uncles knew liked pictures so they all send me pictures of their children granduating, etc. My grandmother also had pictures of grave markers from various ancestors in case I wanted proof that I qualified to join the DAR or something. I never had a desire to do that and I think I threw those pics away but I am kinda sorry I did that because now my son's oldest daughter is interested in family "roots". But a lot of those things are online. I think I mentioned finding my grandfather's obit with a picture of him and his first wife who was my bio grandmother and who I was named after and who died before I was born. I had never seen a pic of her before so it was great finding that. I want to get it printed.
Ginny, how was your day back at work after the long weekend? I bet you're tired tonight so I hope you can relax and do some relaxing embroidery. It will be nice when summer vacation starts and you can work on your quilt.
Today I casted on for another hat. It's hard casting on a short circular needle but I've never had luck with double points. I've really only tried them once or twice so maybe should practice but with the circular I use the magic loop method and it gets easier after the first row but then harder again when decreasing.I maybe need to watch a youtube video a couple times to see how it actually should be done.
Meg, I have mostly bamboo knitting needles too but the problem I have is that after awhile the points get worned down and it's hard sometimes to get under the yarn. At least the work doesn't slide off of them though. I might have to pick up a new one while out tomorrow.
Another thing I wanted to say about slippers, Meg, is that knitted ones are much more comfortable on the bottom of the feet than crocheted ones are. They're smooter without crochet "lumps"
