Hi all,
Went to a conference in Charlotte yesterday. It was good. We stopped and got an early dinner on the way home. I went with a different group of coworkers, including the friend I've mentioned before.
My sister's home for the weekend, so we're going out to eat tonight.
Joan, glad to read that DS is doing better each day. That is very strange about the hospital room. I just finished Being Mortal on the way back from Chapel Hill. It was really good.
Sue, sounds like a good, productive meeting.

Hi!
Finally, a little dip in weight 123.5. Ate less for dinner.
Joan, great weight loss! Glad to hear DS is progressing with the recovery. Hope his stress level is going down as well. Wow, what a coincidence with your cousin.
Holly, sounds like you enjoyed yourself at the conference, always good to be with different groups.
Another sunny day, but getting hotter and more humid. It's my birthday, so I'm mostly being lazy today. I will go to the gym though. My birthday treat tonight is cheeseburger and fries! I haven't had one in forever. I used to get it one night when on vacation, but being on the cruise, you can only order room service for burgers and casual foods.

Happy Birthday,,, Sue---I wondered what you would be doing for today's celebration; you totally shocked me with a cheeseburger as a choice! LOL
I woke up at 4 am and never did get back to sleep so got up about 45 min. Later and went through my stack of mail that had been collecting--sorted through and found two bills that need to be paid because they reverted back to the old credit card number again---so weird when they claim they have removed the expired one and other months were paid with no problem. Happens though.
It cooled off a bit today and is breezy and perfect temp to be out so I deadheaded all the flower beds and pruned back the dead roses. DSIL helped me a bit in the end so that was nice. DH weeded. I cut oregano and thyme and had so much that it took me two hours to wash dry and strip the stems so the leaves would dry faster---will send a jar of dried oregano home with DSIL. I should take a nap but really need to go the the store and get sesame seeds and limes and rice wine vinegar---I am thinking I;ll sear some ahi tuna for tonight. I want to crust it with some sesame seeds this time. Last ight I was so tired of cooking that DH ordered out from Panera and some had a leftover salmon patty with their salad. Afraid that won't work tonight.
I leave Wed. Morning for Sacramento and we head right to San Fran for Hamilton at 2 pm---DH is canceling his flight and will drive DS Park Ranger home to Ely in central NV on Friday and come back on Sunday---we are selling his ticket to DD's neighbor friend across the street but she is getting a deal--half price---but I don't feel like trying to sell it on line last minute from here! I will stay at DD's until Sunday morning so can see the dance recital before I go--it is Saturday. I am ready for the break for sure.
No exercise for me today---am just really worn out suddenly---DGS16 is really refusing to do the things he promised he would do---that is what woke me up early---worrying about where this is going to end up. DD here just cannot seem to find her way to a tough love stance and set some boundaries. I'm ready for a few days with DGD'''s who seem to be way more typical in having the run of the mill teen angst instead of the big heavy stuff!

Hi all,
Nothing much happening. I decided to check out Star Trek on Netflix. Really good so far.
Happy Birthday, Sue. A good cheeseburger is hard to beat!
Joan, hope you enjoy your trip.

Happy late birthday sue!!
Friend is moving to Texas, so at least its somewhere we can plan a weekend visit. Been spending most of my time with her lately since she leave next weekend.
The winery was V Sattui. One of my favorite places in Napa, you can only buy the wine there and online. But they have an amazing italian deli and cheese selection.

Hi!
Thanks for the birthday wishes! Surprisingly, the burger and fries did not impact weight, was 123.3 this morning, so down a little from yesterday.
Joan, I feel so bad for you with what you have been dealing with in the DGS16 situation. I hope he will come out of this somehow soon. How is younger DGS handling this?
Holly, do you mean the Star Trek original series?
Aimee, I've heard of V Sattui, for awhile there, they were sending me catalogues.
Well the burger and fries really hit the spot! I have to admit I need a break from fine dining and tasting menus, lol.
I'm at my parents house for the afternoon. My sister is taking my mom up to see my mom's sisters/mom etc. Also one of my cousins just had a new baby girl. I'm here to watch over my dad. My mom doesn't like to leave him alone, just in case. My BIL will come by later and take my dad out to dinner and stay with him until my mom gets back. It's sad seeing parents get older.

Hi all,
It's so nice during the summer to have enough mental energy to cook more. Really enjoying the HelloFresh meals because they're not too involved.
Sue, someone suggested that I start with The Next Generation. Hope the visit went well.
Aimee I remember you mentioning that place before. An excuse to travel.

Hi everyone! Sue Happy belated! Sorry I missed it. Don't think I would ever want a cheeseburger for my BD!
Having to get a new transmission in my car but the dealership that I bought it from 8 years ago is giving me about $1000 off on it, thank goodness. Normally it would be still under the 10 yr. power train guarantee but it had 500 miles on it when I bought it and it was sold as a demo; so the pier train guarantee did not go with it. I had to drive about 60 miles to the dealership where I bought it to get the deal but it is worth it.
Tomorrow I do the pill cam; so on clear liquids today. Ugh!
Aimee- always sad when good friends move away.
Joan - what a time you have had with family and medical issues. You are an angel for all you do!

Hi!
Sunny and hot here. We're having a couple - ex co-workers - over for dinner Fri night and I've been planning.
Holly, do you get regular deliveries of hello fresh?
Jojo, I haven't had a burger and fries in years so it was a treat for me. $1000 off is great. Hope the procedure goes well for you today.
Need to go to the grocery store today. And gym as usual.
Every day there is some kind of bad news. I think this is the new norm.

Sue, yes, particularly in the summer. I wonder how much of the constant bad news is from the 24 hour news cycle.
JoJo, hope the procedure goes well. Is this the same car that had the roof issue?

Wow!I am down to 118 and not trying. Don't know what is going on except We have stopped the wine except with company and when we go out. Sometimes I have one (or two) glass about once a week if no company or eating out that week. Also I have been drinking 32-48oz water/day. I have never been a water drinker;so this is new for me.
Spent all of the morning hrs. working in the yard; picking up debrae from the trees: pinecones, sweetgum balls, sticks and limbs. Then tonight we had a huge windstorm (weird!) and the yard is covered again with stuff!
Yes, the car is the same one that I had to have the sunroof replaced. But what else can you do than get it fixed.
This afternoon I worked some on my closet, weeding out clothes. Still have more of this to d0.
Went to see my friend last night that had the common duct problem about 3 weeks ago and was so sick. She has to have major surgery on the 26th. The Surgeon will be reconstructing her whole biliary system and she will probably have to have a good bit of her liver resected- big time surgery.
My procedure yesterday went well but I won't know the result until I go for my appt. in a week and a half. I had only had clear liquids for over 24 hrs. so was glad to go out to dinner with DH last night after seeing my friend. We went to Tiajuana Joe's - I had margaritas and fahitas -yum!

Hi!
Everyone must be busy. Today I went grocery shopping and prepped for dinner for tomorrow night. No gym.
I will have simple cheese/crackers, cured meats for hors d'oeuvres.
First course almost an amuse buche, very small portion puree of cauliflower soup (had some left over in freezer from last dinner party). Thinking of garnishing it with buttery croutons, pickled brunoise tomatoes.
Second course is spinach gnudi with butter sage sause and bacon crumbles. I made the gnudi today. It is an Italian pasta dish that is really almost like the filling inside a ravioli, very little flour, bread crumbs, mostly spinach and ricotta. It is very light and airy, lighter than gnocchi. I'm serving 3 gnudi per person, each one is about 1 1/2 tablespoon.
Seafood course is lobster thermidor, each plate 1/2 lobster tail served in the half shell over a bed of baby greens.
Main course is pan seared filet mignon with demi-glace. I bought the demi-glace today. It is a real pain to make from scratch. With a potato gratin and roasted asparagus.
I didn't make the dessert, I bought it today, a selection of cannolis and fruit tartes.
Jojo, wow that is amazing weight loss. I guess I would lose too if I stopped drinking. Are your clothes getting big on you? Sounds like your friend has a long road ahead with all those surgeries.
Tomorrow will be very busy. I am usually super organized for dinner with as much done in advanced as possible, with complete mis en place, all I need to do basically is cook and/or reheat as necessary. This way there is not a long lag between courses and I don't have to spend all my time in the kitchen.

Hi everyone--in Sacramento since yesterday---went to 2 pm Hamilton----oh dear, it was so amazing! I read the lyrics of every one of the 46 songs--really made it great for me to hear it for real. Our seats were so amazing--really perfect. We had falafel from a street stand that was so good prior to the play and then had dinner at a place called Brenda's--it is Louisiana food--I didn;t eat the cultural food---just had a burger--only ate 1/4 the bun. It was not my favorite but I needed some protein and so many of the items were heavy carb. DGD12 had sweet potato stuffed dumplings with veggies in the middle of the bowl in some really awesome tasting sauce--if I went back I would have it. The dumplings were not dough-y but I thought they would be. They ordered beneights but I did not even taste them--did not want the sugar or the fried dough.
JoAnne, wow, great weight loss... I Will be curious to weigh when home---tracking still consistently so hopefully it will be a good result. DGD16 and I took a long walk this morning--for over an hour--had coffee together. Today I made veggie soup with cannellini beans so we had that and brussel sprouts and small strips of chicken breast for dinner. However, did have a fr. yogurt tonight--I kept mine pretty small with no toppings. A neighbor brought over 8 pound weights for me so I did several sets of lifting today and tonight.
DH took DS home today and he did great in his truck--DH will help a bit tomorrow and then drive back hom on Satu=day I fly back Sunday. The cats are in the vets--Tanzi had 1200 dollars worth of tests--was all backed up and they said she was acting better since being flushed out--guess you call it a cat enema--absolutely never heard of such a problem. Thinking her stress with the company being there nine days created a real problem. There may be something else as well--will find out when we pick them up on Monday.
DGS16 is moving into SOBX's and. X will allow. Him to do pot--he won't supervise him at all but claims that he can do a better job than DD--he is such a jerk--gave him a jeep to drive--DD finally took his car away--smoking pot daily means you are driving under influence and it is illegal for him anyway. I feel as tho I am losing our grandson--he is rejecting all attempts to have him stay off substance--we have had a family concensus that he cannot come to the beach if on drugs--it is illegal to have drugs of any kind in the VRBO we are renting as well but we also do not want the other kids exposed to using---it is just so sad to me. DD is feeling extremely sad. Now it is all about how to protect DGS13 from this--he went to his dad's and brought home his X box and feels he no longer wants to go over there--his brother tried to tell him his mom is insane--they got into a huge argument--he knows what his brother is doing and he is so upset. What a mess. And DGS16 is so smart and so dumb all At the same time... Dysfunctional family dynamics are so destructive.
I missed what happened to the car this time, JoAnne.
Hope you dinner goes well, Sue. Holly, I guess your sister is doing well now that she has grown up? Just wish DGS had a different father. DD is awake tho--she went to a drug counselor today and he said taking the car is right, establishing her home as a no drug zone is right--he read texts from the dad and said she could only do what was right--he could see that the dad will not. I think she realizes her level of denial a now fixing this may be out of reach.

Hi!
Joan, I'm so sorry and sad about your DGS16. I really hope that it is a phase and he will come out of it some day. SO's oldest nephew did the same thing - divorced parents (although in this case SO's brother was the one that the 2 nephews wanted to live with), went through psychiatric sessions and medication.
Been busy prepping dinner. No gym.

That. Is our frustration, Sue--he is rejecting all appropriate means of treating depression and we are afraid he is heading down the path of addiction with no parental agreement on requiring the legal and medical approach to be maintained. SOBX does not believe in counseling--he won't require him to stay on meds, allowing him to drive a vehicle knowing he is daily on pot--but this morning DD and I developed a plan to seek legal advice after I am back from NYC--we need to keep it to ourselves and investigate options.
Tanzi is at the vet and they have taken a million tests--she has a parasite that shows up when cats are outdoors hunting live prey--but she has never experienced that--they don't have a clue how she got this--also some enzymes in the blood that indicate the muscles have been stressed so they do think she injured herself somehow and that is affecting her jumping--her organs are fine. I am going to call now and see if we can board them both for NYC week--we would have them 2.5 days and then take them back--feeling as tho we cannot use a new cat sitter with her being somewhat in need of close watching and maybe even meds---the guy we found would not be able to medicate her.
DGD16 and I just went for coffee--I need to get busy and read my book--supposed to have book club Monday night at a restaurant for last meeting before the summer break. Have been too distracted to read! Tonight the girls have rehearsal for recital so I will stay home and try to finish the book.
It is getting hot here--and was 91 in Vegas this morning--a big heat wave rolling in. Ugh--hoping it doesn't get across to NYC by the time we get there as it is a bad one--predicted to get to 109 by Monday! OMG-that is hot!
