Hi all,
My current project at work is going through this extensive list of popular fiction books from the 1950s to present that a previous librarian put together. I'm updating the catalog links and adding new books. There are a lot of books in there that I'd like to read. Many are modern classics now. It's a nice low key project that doesn't take too much brain power, which is nice.
Not much going on this weekend. Ready to get away for vacation in a couple of weeks.
Sue, hope the dinner goes well.
Joan, she is doing pretty well. Just got her CNA certification and will apply to nursing school next year at a community college, then potentially move on to her BSN from there. I think it helps that she's not living at home. High school is such a tough age. I hope everything will work out. What book are you reading?

Happy is the New healthy, Holly---written by a yoga teacher. Great that your sister has found her way. Learning about the drug world that kids are mucking through in their young and naive age is really scarey. DS Park Ranger and DDIL really educated us on a lot. And DGD16 and I have been talking a lot. She does not see the high level of use in her new school---but these kids are more mature and are taking this course of study because many are dancers or sports training or actors---kids who want to be able to work on their goals and still do school as well. But today she was telling me that she thinks high school kids are about half crazy and mean as can be---she thinks DGS needed to be involved in things so that he was too busy to have time to just hang out for his kicks I think she is right on. But another difference I see is that when she goes out to visit a friend, upon returning home, she hangs out with the rest of us---doesn't just retreat into her room. Of course nothing is as simple as just that but I do think when you start letting a kid withdraw from the family they develop their own family--gangs, or common interests such as drinking or drugs.
I used. The Roomba to do the floors this morning---it is so effective on hardwood floors where you have pets---two cats shed a lot and the robot really does hair well.

Hi All, Joan - so much going on in your life. How sad about your DGS. My brother's children were 13 and 7 when he was divorced. The 13 yr old was difinetely affected; the 7 year old not as much. Divorce is so hard on kids as I'm sure you know. My brother's two are now 25 and 19. As a grandmother I know it is so difficult - would be for me as I like to be in control and would have no real part in controlling the situation - I would feel so helpless. You seem to have a great relationship with your DD and I'm sure will be a great support system for her. The car situation this time is a new transmission! I will go to pick it up tomorrow.
Sue - yes, many of my clothes are now too big. That is one of the reasons I am cleaning out my closet.
Had DGS4 today and blew up the little wading pool that we have and let him play in it. It entertained him all morning.
Tired tonight. Watching TV and crocheting.

OMG,,, JoAnne, new transmission is huge!
Just found out one of my yoga friends fell monday and broke her leg in three places--so sad--she is about 65 and has a sclerosis hump and started yoga about 4 years ago--now does it 5 to 6 times a week and is becoming straighter and the hump is actually reduced--and now this. She is devastated more so because she feels yoga is saving her life and now she is down for the count. I will have to make some meals as soon as home so I can be of some help before I leave.
I have the house to myself for a few--DSIL is on a long bike ride and the girls and DD left for the early show (we only go see the late one as it is all older kids). DD invited a friend of mine who just moved here---actually the daughter of an x boyfriend from the 70's--she is the one who wanted me to be her mom and we reconnected after all these years through FB. So that will be fun--we used to go to lunch occasionally in Vegas.
Oops, have not checked in for flight---better get with it!

Hi!
Dinner went great last night! Everything turned out so well. Going to school definitely made me a better cook. My garnishes and flavors were so good! I know enough now to really tweak recipes to make a better dish. The gnudi was delicious and I made enough to freeze for future dinner parties.
Holly, low key project is great for the summer. Where are you going for vacation? Amazing how your sister has matured.
Joan, are you in contact with Valerie through FB? I forget where they are moving to? So sorry about your yoga friend! Glad you enjoyed Hamilton so much.
Jojo, it is easier doing these elaborate meals when I don't have a job or going to school!
Stayed up late to clean everything up last night. I hate leaving dirty dishes over night. Lots of dishes/plates with this many courses!

Hi all,
I think I have some kind of sinus issue. It's been going around. They always wear me out. I'm supposed to cook dinner tomorrow night for Father's Day, but am not sure if I'm up to it.
Sue, glad the dinner went well.
Joan, DGD sounds like she's quite wise for her age. Sorry about your friend.
JoJo, congrats on the weight!

I just checked my texts from Valerie---yes they sold the beachhouse not the DC house---they move to Maine on July 24 and the DC house goes on the market week or so after they are out.
So recital is done---all went well until it was over---then the girls were falling apart because a former dancer who entered Chapman University this year (DGD16 danced in her senior choreographed dance last year--seniors do that and choose their dancers) committed suicide and the studio dancers found out right after the recital---OMG, why do our successful kids with bright futures give up life? And how completely devastating it is to everyone left behind! And how hard for kids to handle this!
We did go out and get dinner at a Thai restaurant after the show---I had the best food---a garlic shrimp---it was so excellent and not heavy like most Thai food. And not very garlicky--the veggies in it were excellent and not at all over cooked. Shrimp were really large. I ate a bit of the mango sticky rice---did not intend to but it was so good--I did not over do it tho so hope that it is ok--I will be weighing on Monday morning. I have tracked every day but have not finished tracking tonight so hoping it doesn't put me way over the top. I did not get any exercise today.
DGD is visiting with a few friends tonight and spending the night but wants to take me out to coffee and to the airport in the morning so she is coming back at 7 am--all her idea so that made me feel good---I love being around the girls, love that they talk with their parents and laugh with them and tease---I think they have a good handle on life so far. Hope that continues.

Hi! Somehow the day just got away from me. Not that I accomplished that much, just normal chores, food prep, gym.
Holly, hope sinus issue is improving What did you cook for father's day
Joan, that is just tragic. I can't believe what young people are facing these days. When I was a teenager, parents divorcing was a rare event. You really have a great relationship with your DGDs

Home,, Washing second to last laundry load and then going to bed early-----was up past midnight almost every night. Last night DGD13 and I stayed up playing games on our phones--at the same time---and talking--I felt it was super important--she will be gone to Philly soon and I think we all needed lots of talk last night. DGD16 took me to coffee==DD ended up going with us, too, and then to airport--DGD started crying as did I--this suicide is being taken so hard.
DH has been grumpy today. Planned to eat dinner with DD here and DGS13 but he is sick and we don't dare be exposed as getting DGD16 exposed would be terrible for her dance--she will be auditioning for level on Monday. Plus being sick by yourself in a dorm in NY is not ideal. So we just ate alone---DH got Outback, his choice, and we ate here. I have several nice tomatoes ripe so had caprese salad for lunch and a small plate of tomatoes and basil with my dinner.
Have to take DH way out to get car before my 8:30 class so will be up super early. Have to skip my other classes and go get the cats for a couple days--hoping we get Tanzi--she has had some intestinal problems. We meet with the vet also. Kind of concerned about our furry kids. And I miss them terribly.
Having lunch with a former student tomorrow. And book club in evening--made a reservation at Bonefish Grill as it is fairly quiet and I fear we will be way too hot outside at Ca Pizza Kitchen where it was planned to be--it was 109 today. Nite all!

Hi all,
Finally on the tail end of this sinus infection. Pretty bad one. Several people at work had it.
We're going to Ocean Isle, an NC beach on the week of the 4th. I ordered several books to take, and have some cotton yarn to work on some summer knitting projects. The whole family will be there for part or all of the week.

Hi!
Uneventful day, paperwork, going through pantry items and throwing things out, food prep, gym. Also worked on my resume. Weight is still at 124, at least it didn't go up after my dinner party.
Joan, hope your DH is less grumpy today, and that Tanzi is doing ok I saw on the news the heatwave that is hitting the west!
Today we had 2 huge thunderstorms, once while I was at the gym, and another right after I got back home from the gym. I did have an umbrella with me, but still glad I missed the storms.
I've kind of been experimenting with food lately. Tonight I marinated chicken strips in a combination of fage and mayo with seasonings, lemon juice and stir fried it. It turned out yummy.

Holly, I just got a new Knit Pics catalog today and will probably order some new yarn too.
Busy day today with voting and grocery shopping. Also went to Sally Beauty store to buy some of the brightening shampoo for grey /white hair. I now have enough to last a century! It was on sale , buy two get one free. So I did.
Joan so distressing to hear of a young suicide. The kids these days seem to have such terrible pressures on them as you know.
I think we're are going to need an ark here soon. It just keeps raining. My grass really needs cutting but too wet! Right now, no end to the rain in sight.
DH has a cardiology appt in the a.m. I'll go with him.
