I hope it is O.K. for me to start our thread
I went to the Longarm rental today and finished quiling two tops. The shop was very busy so there was a lot of time I had to wait for the owner to get back to help me, since I couldn't remember all the steps. Hopefully the next time I can do more on my own.
My sister-in-law did stop by and she helped some, but I did the quilting for both quilts myself. I'm going to evaluate the quilts I have left and see which ones I want to take down there and which ones I might try on my home machine.
Doing this today did make me want to put the free motion foot on my own sewing machine and try some more quilting. But it sure is nice to quilt on the big frame and it goes really quickly.
Take care everyone!

CJ, I think everyone would agree that whoever gets here first is welcome to start us for the week.
I'm glad to hear that the long arm went well but sorry you had to spend some of your time waiting for help. When things work out well it really does make us more inspired than ever to do more of our crafting doesn't it.
I haven't done any crafting today. I helped dh with the garage while he was mowing but it ended up that all that standing and moving things really caused a lot of pain so I was disappointed since yesterday was a really great day in that regard. No pain at all. Now it's persisted ever since. I'll have to call to make another appointment since they haven't called me after I put the info into the patient portal for an appointment. I'm wondering if their patient portal is even working although I saw that my ins info is updated.
I hope you are all having a good day.

Thank you for starting the thread cj. Who ever gets here first can start the thread. Ginny has to get up early to go to work and she usually gets here first.
I have spent the morning paying my bills and also DDs. Just something I out off though it is not difficult. Last evening I sent some time on UTube trying to .earn some new stitches. It has been busy lately and so today I slowed down. I have a lot of chores around the house that need to be done so I do have enough o keep me busy. The temp. here today I think is about 90. I haven't been outside but I can see that the sun is shining brightly.
cj, I am glad you were able to work on your quilt at the store where they have a special machine. I bet you would like to have one at home but I bet they cost a lot. I am glad you had a productive day.
I will check back later and see if Ginny, Phyl, and Ruth check in. They are probably having a busy day.

Thanks for starting us off CJ! You bet, get that free motion foot on and give it a try. I know for certain applications the long armer is best, but I have fun quilting with my machine! GIve it a try.\\
Ruth, will pray that the pain subsides....sounds like maybe you overdid things.
Meg, sounds like you had a productive day. 90 degrees is hot though, and I hope you had the AC on.
Indeed this was a super busy day....got a few minutes of embroidery in. Not much though. WIll check in tomorrow and see how everyone is doing, GInny

Seems hard to believe that I am the only one back here, but then I remember that CJ and I are the only ones in the east coast and the rest of you might be waking up.
Ruth, our resident night owl- I hope that you are comfortable, not in pain. Hope too that you can get in contact with the doctor.
Meg- our other resident night owl- do you have a good book to recommend?I started a book given to me by a friend from church, not sure I am going to finish it.....life is too short to suffer though a book.
Phyl- what are you up to this week?
CJ-its so exciting that you are learning how to quilt! When you use the long armer- are you quilting a pattern (like feathers, paisleys....etc) of are you free sewing your own stipple?
I came home to an empty house- Dh went to paint DD's house and Dd was at the gym. got a little bit of housework done, and am now settling down to check my email . It's been a busy week. I think tonight will be more quiet and I can get some serious embroidery done. THink I am about halfway through the first pillow case- and I hope to finish that and the second pillowcase when we go away in a few weeks. I will also pack some yarn in the event I need to do some hooking then too!
Hope everyone has a great day! Ginny

Good afternoon Ginny, Meg, Phyl and CJ. Ginny, yes, not only am I in mountain time which is two hours earlier than you but I'm also a late sleeper so I never get here early.
So far this morning I've accomplished two things. I've dug in my big pots to loosen the dirt and I've cut my rhubarb. I don't know how good this rhubarb is though. It had gone to seed so it might just be woody and fibrous. I'll try it and see. For most people rhubarb multiplies like rabbits but mine doesn't do much at all. I have only two plants and the second always ends up looking dead. Today it looked pretty good though. Now I'm taking it easy so I don't overdo like I did yesterday. Later I'll cook a couple things and clean the kitchen and I have to put out my hummingbird feeders because while I was out this morning one buzzed me complaining about having no feeder.
Then even later I'll work on some crafting...crocheting on either the blanket of the things for my daughter who's planning on selling them along with her rocks and minerals to the tourists that come for the eclipse. This is such a small town that they've already put out suggestions on how we can make the overcrowding better and to make better use of our resources such as water and power and being prepaared in advance for crowded stores that may be short of stock, and overworked wifi, over crowded streets, etc. Eclipse is less than three months away. I know I'll be stocked up in advance and won't go out of my house during that whole two week period before and after. Guess I'll have to get up early the day of the eclipse as it takes place in the morning. This whole thing will bring revenue to the town and state but it takes a LOT of preparation for law enforcement, the hospital, etc, etc, etc. I'm glad I'm no longer working.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The machine I quilted on probably costs about $20,000!!! They do have a smaller one that is about $6,000 and I have thought about getting something like that, but I'd have to get a lot more experience in before investing in that. I didn't use a set pattern, I just made up my own - loops on one quilt and flowers on another. Ruth - I hope you are feeling better today and can get to see someone about your pain soon. That's neat that you'll be able to see the eclipse this year. Meg - I really enjoy watching craft videos on YouTube, it's amazing how quickly time goes when you're doing that. Ginny - Hope you get to work on your pillowcases some more and get them done before you go away. Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in. I really need to get that last Solstice quilt block done but I'm not in a quilting mood today. The last block comes out tomorrow so I guess I'll just do the two of them together. I found out yesterday that the quilt shop is going to be offering a class in a Mariner's Compass quilt using the Quiltsmart method. I really want to sign up for that because I've always wanted to do a Mariner's Compass. Here's a link to the package that Quiltsmart offers: www.quiltsmart.com/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=classic_marinerscompassTake care everyone.

I spent the morning at PT and just got home. It is hot and I feel sticky. I haven't been doing much crocheting and just ripped out the baby blanket I started. I am trying to make up my mind about what I want to do. I've spent a lot of time on UTube so at least that counts. I hope I can stay home the rest of the day but I may have to go and pick Devin up after school. Yesterday he was able to go in the pool for the first time this year. I haven't gone in the last couple of years.
Ruth, I am sorry you still have your problem and I am surprised that the Dr. hasn't come up with a diagnosis. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.. The Eclipse seems to be a very big deal for your DD. I hope that she can sell all the stuff she has been working on.
cj, I did take a peek at your marines square. It looks very nice and I am sure it will require a lot of patience to make. But I am sure you can do it.
Ginny, Let me put my thinking cap on to help you find a book.. I gave sort of slowed down on my reading this week. What kind of books do you enjoy?
Phyl, what are you up to today?
I will try and check back later.

hi, I went to sit and sew today. we had fun. tonight we are going to a couple's house for supper. lyle and don used to work together.
at sit and sew I quilted on the strip blanket. this is a chatiry blanket. sorta youth size. I have another one In my playpen. that one is smaller. need to get some battign for it. I still have enough strips to make another baby quilt or a little bigger. be glad when these are all done. why oh why I cut so many strips years go I don't know why oh why I cut so many strips. must have thought I WAS GOING TO MAKE ALOT OF THE PATTERN CALLED NAPTIME.
Sadie went home today. she stopped by the quilt shop to tell me good bye. she was on the phone when I left. SADIE GAVE US A BEAUTIFUL HANGIN PETUNIA PLANT. Her summer will go fast, then she will be In her apartment and starting her carrer as a teacher.

CJ, the 100% totallity is going to be right here which is why so many people are coming here to watch it
Ginny, I meant to say earlier that I hope you're going somewhere really fun and will be able to relax and enjoy yourself and your embroidery.
Meg, I often rip out whole projects.
Phyl, how sweet of Sophie to come to the quilt shop to tell you goodbye and also to get you that nice plant.
I still haven't started on my crafting for today. I did do my bills online and I set up some more pills for dh. I have to call the pharmacy when my phone battery recharges and order one of his that got off schedule because of needing authorization for more refills. Then they will mail it to us. Wish I had found out sooner that they would do that. I haven't called the doctor's office yet either because of the phone.
Meg, the doctor I saw did come up with a probable diagnosis. It's a painful condition called interstitial cystitis but it can flare up and go into remission. I had this back in 11 also only at that time they didn't give me a diagnosis.. It's an auto immune disorder like infammatory bowel diseas, IBS, hypothyroid and many, many other conditions.

Good evening!
Ruth, interstitial cystitis does not sound like fun......many of those auto immune disorders are hard to control. Of course I will pray that you go into complete remission for a very long period of time. I pray that there are good ways to hold it down- so that flare ups are infrequent. Praying that your pain is going down.....and is gone very soon. Not that I can compare the two, but i have irritable bowel, and can pretty much predict when a flare up is on its way.... Glad you got some bills done and can have your meds shipped through the mail. That is so much easier!
Phyl- how sweet of Sadie to stop in to say good bye and give you a lovely plant. Now regarding why you cut so many strips, well, its using the same darned logic as why we buy more yarn, or why we buy more fabric....somehow we think we will need it! Make it a goal to use up all the strips....then you can move on to more fun projects.
Meg, of course all that time on YouTube counts as crafting! Did you have to go pick up Devin? Was he able to get some pool time in? Is PT helping you? I know my mom did benefit from it. Regarding books, I dislike modern books- and really prefer historical novels. I do not mind mysteries either. Not big into romances. Ok I did not help you one bit! Not to worry, I am sure I will find something to read.
CJ, the mariners compass is a beautiful quilt- and I hope that you are able to sign up for the class. Agreed, those long arm machines are pricey. I have read good reviews about the $6000 machines, and hear that they are pretty good and do a nice job. I have a good friend who does send all her quilts out to a long armer- that is just one part of the quilting process that she chooses not to do. As for me, I think it would have to be a VERY special quilt for me to send it out to be long armed. I would try another method of quilting for the average quilt. But then you make more quilts than I do....and I. Am sure you will make the right decision for you. Does your sister in law also quilt? Perhaps you two can share a machine.
Got some embroidery in today...and will be sitting down in a minute to work on the pillowcases shortly. Have a wonderful evening Ginny

Ginny, I'm going to quit whining here in a minute.. I have irribable bowel also and microscopic colitis and hypothyroid so that's one of the reasons the doctor said it was undoubtedly interstitial cystitis. If you have one auto immune disorder you're more likely to develop another or others.Thank you so much for the prayers. They're deeply appreciated esp when I have one of the really painful episode. As or books I like mysteries the best. I like the light "cozy Mysteries" and ones that don't have bad language or explicit sex and don't try to make Christians sound like we're all wackos.I do read more serious mysteries too. I've found some really good ones by Christian authors. There are a lot of other quilts I like better than the Mariner's compass but it's nice also and just depends on your own personal taste and what challenges you want to meet. It looks like a hard one but CJ, I'm sure you'll be good at it. It sounds to me like you have a natural talent for it.

Meg I love hearing from you so I'm sorry to see you lost your post.
I've been working on my baby blanket and it's really coming along. I'm going to make another with this same stitch. I think I mentioned that the other day but I was thinking of one with one yarn that I have and now I remembered another one(yarn that is) that maybe will be even better. I may start it with both and whichever one I don't give as the gift I'll donate or save. I do want to make each of my grandchildren a baby blanket even those that aren't anywhere near old enough to have children of their own yet. I want them to be there when the time comes that they are grown and have their own children so want to make them while I'm still alive and able. For my last grandaughter I made a sweater with 54 small granny squares...now THAT takes some weaving in and a lot of sewing squares together in rows then sewing the rows together. I'll never do that again but I had thought of making that sweater for years and years and finally got it done.

HI all. I've just been sitting and crocheting but have to go out in a minute to do a little yard work.I won't do much at a time. Neighbor is mowing again which she does all the time. Since she loves mowing so much she could have come over and done mine. My other neighbor does mine sometimes because he's another one that likes to mow.She even does his even though he mows it a lot too and it's not like the grass grows much here.It does in early spring because of the rain but after that this particular neighbor just goes out and "mows" the dead stuff and dirt.
I hope you're all having a good day.
