Hello Ginny, Ruth, cj,& Phyl,
I got up late this morning and went to Knit Wits this afternoon. I didn't take Devin as DS was home. There will be lots of other days when I can take him with me. There is a lady in the group who does beautiful knit work. Today she brought a baby set, long pants jacket and cap. She does the most beautiful pattern work. I would never attempt knitting something like that. It would take following the pattern stitch by stitch and with my eye sight it would take forever. Another lady in our group entered her crocheted doily in the state fair. She won first prize and will be entered in the National event. We have some ladies in our gp. who are like professionals their work is perfect.
I took my b/blanket to work on and really didn't get much done but I did get a lot of talking done. That's the fun part. It was cool this morning and overcast. When I came home the sun was shining and there as a slight breeze and the sun was shining. Now I am home for the day.
Ruth, I bought some gray yarn but it was a little too thick for what I wanted but I will be able to use it up. I am still trying to get through the pink yarn I ordered from Lion Brand a while back. For my granny stitch b/blanket I am using yar that I already have. Lion Brand pastel green, white and creamsicle. Those colors look very nice for a b/blanket. The last b/blanket I finished is LB pastel green, white and pink so they are different. One is a V stitch and the one I am working on is granny stitch. I do understand your discomfort and hope you can get some relief soon. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I just noticed your last post and I love rhubarb pie and I just wish I was at your house to have some of your rhubarb and strawberry crumble. Enjoy.
cj, granny stitch blankets seem to be popular now. They are very easy just double crochet 3 times in the one stitch and miss 2 spaces and then do another 3 stitches in the one space. I would also like to try an oblong afghan instead of a square using this granny stitch. I saw a tutorial for that on UTube. I hope all goes well at the quilt show and you get your quilts appraised.
Phyl, sorry you had a restless night. I just hate those kind of nights. I hope spending some time in your playroom and going out to supper with your friends relaxes you and that you sleep better tonight.
Ginny, when is the last day of school for you? Devin is off with DS at the moment I don't know where they went. It wasn't quite warm enough today for the pool though it has warmed up this afternoon. I think having a number of kids is easier than just having 1. I was checking the library calendar this afternoon because they have programs for kids so I hope I can find something there that will interest him. He will have 2 weeks of vacation bible school at the end of July beginning of August. I wish I could put him on a plane and send him to Florida. DGD#! does not work and she likes to go to the beach and she does not have any kids.
Have a good evening. I may check back later.

Good evening! Well, its Friday night....I am out on the deck with a lovely scented candle going writing this post. I also hope while I am out here that our indoor/outdoor cat decides to come back for the night. I make sure he is in for the night- to keep him safe. He is older and I like not worrying about him at night/knowing he is inside.
Phyl, lets hope that you sleep all the way through tonight! An undistrupted sleep is so nice.....
CJ- enjoy the quilt show tomorrow! Like you, I prefer the traditional quilts. It's going to be neat to see how your quilts appraise and what the recommendations are for finishing them.
Ruth, are you feeling any better? Is it more uncomfortable to stand- which is what you implied? What is your most comfortable position now....hopefully sitting up to craft is ok. I do as you just did, add to larger amazon orders silly ('silly"!?) things like yarn or crafting items to get the free shipping! It works!
I embroider now because I have so little time for quilting. Between Dd's move and the end of the school year insanity (regents start Tuesday) I will have little time to myself for the next 2 weeks. SO my embroidery or crocheting is just to keep me crafting and doing something portable. I did get a few minutes of embroidery in today. About half way done with the first pillow case. It's a pretty and airy butterfly pattern.
Gotta go call again for my buddy the cat. I do think he laughs at me while I am out here calling his name.
Hi to Meg! Ginny

Meg- our posts crossed..... last day of school is June 22 for us. Glad you got to knit wits......indeed the library here has wonderful programs for kids during the summer. Hope you can find something good for Devin. DOes the school offer summer recreation programs? In my town the high school kids run summer clinics on track, swimming, tennis etc.....they are $5.00 to register and that is it. It's a nice way to keep the kids busy for 6 weeks. I also know some who send their kids to different churches for DVBS- most programs are basic Christianity- and would not differ from what your church practices. Hope you can find some good things to keep him busy and happy! Thanks for the inspiration of the ladies who crochet so well. Nice to know that there are some really talented folks out there...(I am not one of them!). Still nice to hear that these traditions are being carried on.
OK, gotta go find that darned cat. Lets hope I am not out here at midnight calling his name because he will not come in. G

Meg, I'm with you. I could never do such intricate knitting or crocheting. I'd never win a prize. Do you think that Devin would be interested in learning to knit or crochet? When we went to Germany back in 01 there was a little boy knitting on the plane and my dgs asked me to teach him to crochet 8 years ago. Of course he was homeschooled so wasn't influenced by other kids telling him what is good for boys to do and what isn't. I never got much done while at Caps for Kids meetings either. It was mostly talk and looking at what others had made.It was fun though. I don't have any desire to go back though. I just make the hats and drop them off in the senior center office.
Ginny, I hope you find your kitty before it gets too late. My dd's cats are indoor/outdoor cats too and one was missing earlier in the week for about 4 days. My neighbor has a bunch of cats and one time one of them got locked into my garage. I was so thankful that he was ok. It was middle of summer and very hot and no water in the garage. Finally my dh went into the garage for something and thought he saw the cat so he opened the door and the cat ran out. We'd been in the garage before but that particular cat was a very shy one and hid whenever anyone was around so we hadn't seen him.The neighbors really love these cats and were devastated when they thought something had maybe got the cat. We have eagles and coyotes here.
Ginny, yes when I stand for more than about 5 minutes, for some reason my bladder goes into terrible spasms causing very severe pain and takes about a half hour to subside. Sitting is the most comfortable which is good for my reading and crafting.Even lying down is sometimes not good at all. This will subside though and will go into remission I'm sure. Last time it lasted for about 8 or 9 months but wasn't as painful back then at all.
That's one of the things I didn't like about your state...school lasted too long. Here the school year ended a couple days ago.
Meg, that's what I used in this baby blanket that I'm working on now...the creamsicle, white and at one end a row of lavender and the other end a row of green. I was surprised at how nice the green looks with the creamsicle. ;This one has wider as in more rows of creamsicle and white and just narrow rows of the green and lavender. Next one I'm going to make a lot of narrow rows of creamsicle, the pastel green, the lavender and maybe a blue between rows of white. I think that will be pretty. I do want to finish my pink fuzzy blanket tonight or tomorrow. I had finished it but then found a skein of the same yarn in white with pink flecks so I'm going to add that for another edging and it will be done. I had set it aside.I think adding that will make it a good size

Almost time for bed. I have been watching TV just to keep up on the news then I switched to my audio cook and I have been working on my b/blanket.
Ginny, Devin has gone to another church for VB school but he has decided he doesn't want to go there anymore. He wants to go to our church which is offering 2 weeks of VBS. The other church is very much like my chursc and he really enjoyed it the first year he went. That program you mentioned at the schools in your area sounds good. They used to have summer school here but stopped it Probably budget cuts or something. One way or another we will keep him busy. I hope your cat comes in for the night. When we lived in England we inherited a cat from a family returning to the US. I think it was a tom cat. He ended up getting his back broken one night and we had to take him to the vet and have him put to sleep. I haven't had a cat for years and I don't think I will get another one. Some times we talk about getting a dog but I would probably end up having to take care of it. Though I think it would be good for Devin.
Ruth, your bladder problem sounds very uncomfortable. I had a lot of trouble with mine and I know how uncomfortable that can be. My problem was different than yours and I hope that the Dr. can find out what is wrong and help you. Luckily the surgery I had just over a year ago has worked. I had pro lap surgery.
Sleep well

Good morning!
Well indeed, school in this state goes longer, but it starts later also. It's ok, i grew up in a neighboring state whose schedule is very similar..guess it is all what you are used to.
Ruth, indeed that bladder issue sounds so uncomfortable. Thanks for sharing about it, which I know does not heal your pain and discomfort but does help us understand the difficulties you face. Of course, I will continue to pray for you- and hope that this episode does not last the 8 -9 months that the previous episode did. Do the episodes just stop or fade away....I truly hope and pray that the most intense period of this is over for you and that you are feeling normal soon. The baby afghan sounds SOOOO pretty- and I think the color combo of the cremesicle and pastel green and lavender and blue must be striking. Don't you love it when something absolutely beautiful develops right before your eyes like that?
Meg, I know here the local BOCES (career tech high school portion) offers summer classes as does the local community college. Some of these are available for kids- I hope that you can find healthy things to keep Devin busy! I am sure you will....hey- even AC Moore has craft sessions in the summer for kids- which I am unsure if he would be interested in.
Well, I was just about ready to give up on my feline buddy and I heard his soft voice cry outside the door. We have other cats that are inside only. I never wanted another inside outside cat- until this guy showed up10 years ago. He was 9 pounds, filthy and scared. Dh, Dd#2 , Ds and I were all secretly feeding him....none of us knew the other was sneaking him food. Ds was even sneaking him into his room. Well I took the kids to the movies one night, it started to snow heavily and was cold. When we got back Dh told me that he had brought our new kitty in for the night as it was too cold. I got him to the vet the next day( to make sure he did not have anything that could make our other cats sick) and he checked out ok. THat was a very hard winter- very cold and snowy- and he did not seem interested in going out. So we kept him in....thought I had broken him from going out. Then spring hit. He is used to being outside during the day- and when the weather is good enough he goes out. He is an affectionate cat, probably has the best disposition of our kitties. I have always gotten him in at night- now that he is older I know its more important. We have coyotes here....and he is an older animal. Anyway, I am glad he came in last night and will probably have trouble getting him in again tonight.
Gotta go take a shower and start my day. Ginny

Thank you Ladies for your concern. It's great having friends that care about you when illness strikes. Often I think it's improving only to end up having more really intense painful episodes throughout the day and even night but it will subside sometime. I just have to be patient which is not one of my strengths. But I do have the Lord's strength to sustain me and caring thoughts from you, my friends.
I have about six rows to go on the body of my blanket then the edging. It's looking larger than I thought it was going to end up and I think it's a perfect size. Parents are told now not to put blankets into infant's cribs so this will be a good one for car seats which seem to be used a lot in the car and in the house and also when the mother is holding the baby or nursing.
It's a beautiful day today. Perfect temperature and nice and sunny. People are going to be enjoying their weekends
I did get the strawberry, rhubarb crisp made yesterday and it was delicious. I have more fresh strawberries that I put into the freezer so I will be able to make more of this. If I don't have enough rhubarb the neighbor will be more than happy to give me some.
Ginny, our school year this coming fall actually starts after Labor day. Mostly it starts the last week in August which I never liked. I was surprised when we moved here that the children had to start back so early. The getting out early in the spring wasn't helpful because here the weather in the spring is not that great as evidenced by our snow storm this year on May 23rd.Now they've extended the school year into June but early June. When our kids were young we always vacationed in August hoping the nights would be warm enough for tent camping.
I hope all of you have a wonderul relaxing weekend and Ginny, I hope these last weeks of the school year are not too intense and wearing for you
CJ, enjoy that quilt show.
Meg, I'm glad you got to work on your blanket last night.
Phyl, I know you always have events planned. Have a good and safe time

Oh it's intense here and stressful. Dh has been very difficult and I know wants to move. But he has absolutely no idea where he wants to move to- and communicates poorly. So the reason we are not moving (in his opinion) is all my fault. An interesting conundrum.
Ruth, I just read an interesting article- which indicated that physical therapy is effective at helping with IC. I know your doctor suggested that you go for IC- do you have medical coverage for that? We here on the board hurt for you and with you.
Going outside to weed. Not my favorite job. BBL Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you enjoyed eating your crumble, I'm glad you were able to get it made. My mother used to love strawberry-rhubarb pies. The fresh strawberries are already done here, but I did enjoy them while they were out. I'm sorry to hear you are having such pain, I sure hope it goes away soon. Meg - Thanks for that explanation of the granny square row blanket. I've done several granny squares (as one large round), I'd like to try the rows. I'm glad you had a good time visiting at KnitWits, I'm sure that's half the fun. Ginny - I'm glad your cat came back, and sorry you have to do weeding That has to be tough having a spouse wanting to move but not knowing where to. Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. The quilt show was great, lots and lots of hand quilted quilts, which I love to see. Many applique and other traditional quilts too. I may go back tomorrow and take a slower look at things and also be around for the raffle winners. They are offering a featherweight sewing machine in one of the raffle baskets and another one in the silent auction. I found a few nice things at the Guild table - a few pieces that were already quilted and just needed binding - placemat or table runner size. I figure practicing binding is good for me. My best find was a hand quilting hoop and stand, it looks like the one below and almost looks new - I only paid $10.00!!!!! I couldn't believe it, I'm so happy I found it since I'd been wanting one of these and they are expensive - see what it looks like at this website: www.mainelyquilts.com/shop-online.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=147&category_id=33For my two quilt tops, one of them has fabrics from the 1950s, and the other one from 1990-2000. The Appraiser couldn't give me a value since they aren't finished quilts, but she said they were nice pieces. I'd like to hand quilt them someday. Take care everyone!

Ginny, men can be so trying at times and cause a lot of stress for us. Esp when they're not good at communicating which most men aren't. My dh keeps talking about moving too but we never will while he's around I'm sure. We've actually looked into some small towns here in the state but then he worries about access to medical care and groceries, etc. We like it here because the town is of a size where it's not too large but large enough that there is some measure of anonymity . We have some extremely small towns here.It is getting hard trying to take care of maintenance and upkeep of a house.
Ginny, I do think I need to revisit the idea of PT. It would probably help. I could at least go and tell the therapist my concerns about not being able to stand for long or the pain becomes intense and see what her suggestion is. Right now if I even try to do a couple of those Kegels it's painful. I don't know if my ins will cover it or not. I'd have to check. If not and if it's going to be helpful I could tell her I need a one time intensive instruction meeting and pay myself.
CJ, it seems to me also that you got a tremendous bargain! Congrats on that. I'm really happy for you.It sounds like you saw some really nice quilts too.
Speaking of pain Meg, how are your hands and the wrist that you broke holding up with the crocheting you're doing now? Do you find that there's any difference in the pain between knitting and crocheting. Is your shingles pain finally gone?
CJ, my mother used to make rhubarb pie but no strawberries in it. When we had strawberries she woulld make strawberry shortcake. I like the pie either way...with strawberries or without.

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with my computer or maybe it's the key board. It is a beautiful day here but I am staying home. I will probably read and work on my b/blanket. Devin is sitting at the kitchen table playing with some new legos he just got. yesterday.
Ginny, I am sorry things are intense at home. Men are just not always able to express how they feel or what they want. I think we women are supposed to be able to read their minds. My DH was like that and my DS is like that.. My DS sulks. I will keep you and your DH in my prayers and hope you can work this problem out. Weeding is not any ones favorite job. But it is a mindless chore and may help you relax. Take care, (((hugs)))
Ruth, I will continue to pray for you and hope you start to feel more comfortable. (((hugs))) Your b/blanket sounds like it will be very pretty and it must feel good to be almost finished. I have never had rhubarb combined with strawberries, In Ireland we had rhubarb pies and we would make rhubarb like apple sauce and have it with custard pudding. In Ireland we had gooseberries that I liked. but I have never seen them here.
I am off to read and stay out of trouble.

Meg, my mother used to make that rhubarb sauce too.. We just ate bowls of it..didn't put it on pudding but that would be really good. I have gooseberry bushes growing in my yard..Come on over and get some. Actually I think the surprise late snowstorm froze the blossoms before they had a chance to become berries.
ok I just checked. Although the bushes have really spead there is only one berry in the whole patch

Hi Ruth, I am taking a break to eat and then I will get back to crocheting my b/blanket and listening to my book. I suppose It depends on the climate in order to grow gooseberries. I do see rhubarb in the stores and I think I will buy some. It might taste good with my cream of wheat. Don't fight over the one gooseberry on your bushes.
sleep well.
