We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Good morning! Settled back in at home with my morning coffee, and disappointed that when I look out my window I see my deck but no ocean. Haven't kept up as closely with the news for the past few days, but have seen bits and pieces. It's amazing how people with different points of view can listen to the exact same testimony and yet hear completely different things. Some of that I can justify as just normal for interpreting things from your own point of reference, but some of it that the right is spouting is not just a different slant but completely different than the words spoken. Just read an opinion piece on CNN's website that the author must be living in a different world, as he seems to have no grasp whatsoever on the actual reality of what was said. No there was no smoking gun revealed, but enough was revealed that I can't understand how any reasonable person can not at least acknowledge that there are some serious issues at stake which need to be delved into much deeper. Got home about 8:30 last night, and so didn't even think about unpacking. Just brought everything in from the car and left it. So today it's unpacking, laundry, and definitely have to do a grocery store run. Check back later . . .

The hypocrisy of it all on the right never ceases to amaze me even though I know to expect it. And people who deliberately choose to bury their heads in the sand get on my last nerve.

"but enough was revealed that I can't understand how any reasonable person"
Joyce, that's because they're NOT reasonable people. It sounds like you had a good time. You deserved some relaxing R & R. Good for you.
Linda, I love those posters! The truth really does come back to bite you, doesn't it? Sadly, unreasonable people choose not to see the irony or even feel the bite. They scare me.

They scare me too, Pat. People who refuse to even consider possibilities that don't fit within their preconceived notions or the way they "want" things to be really do scare me. They are dangerous to us all, and they are exactly the reason that we are in this mess now.
If I'm wrong and the JA is just a liar, a bigot, and a huge inflated ego who is in way over his head but not an obstructor of justice or a colluder with Russians, then I can accept that. But I want to know the truth about it. So the special prosecutor and reporters better be digging deep. I can accept being wrong about those things, but I can't accept not ever finding out the truth.
How blatantly hypocritical can you be that even now you can't let go of Hillary's emails even though she lost the election, and yet you have no interest whatsoever in having the truth come out about how Russia was involved in trying to influence our election process and what is actually going on within the WH? Those people in many ways are more scary than the JA himself. A closed mind is a very scary thing indeed.

As for Jeff Sessions, his days as Attorney General are surely numbered. The only reason he's not gone already is that Tweety knows it would just stir up a bigger fire storm. Personally, I'll be glad to see the little weasel out of there.

If anyone is in the mood for a giggle - I cannot attach pictures, but if you do a google image search for star trek troyius and check out the pix of the green guy. We saw this old episode the other night and could not stop laughing.
Star Trek really did invent everything!

As for trying to slam Comey for leaking his memos, REALLY?!! That's what they find to be upset about? It just boggles my mind. JA in Chief leaked Israeli intelligence to the Russians, and they want that swept under the rug. Comey leaks information he personally wrote detailing conversations Tweety had already talked about publicly himself, and that's something to be upset about?
I find it strange indeed to be in a position where I am defending Comey, because I really believe he showed extremely flawed judgment at the very least in the way he handled Hillary's emails and the influence he exerted on the election. So I'm not sorry to see him out as the head of the FBI. But we do need to know what he has to say about it all, and I believe he has a lot more to say than has been brought out thus far.
As for whether or not there are any "tapes"? I doubt they exist, although it would not surprise me to find that Tweety recorded conversations with his phone. If he did, however, I expect those recordings are long gone never to see the light of day. It was stupid of him to mention them in the first place after the whole world knows what happened with Nixon. But then Tweety is not particularly bright. I think he was just trying to talk tough and run a bluff which backfired on him big time. He's used to bluffing what he sees as his opponents in business. He wasn't expecting Comey to call him on it. Stupid!!!

Joyce, I don't think they're refusing to see the truth. I honestly don't believe that.
They know the truth and they see it crystal clear. They don't like what they see and that's painful. So it's easier to do the three monkey thing.
Stick you're fingers in your ears and you won't hear the truth. Cover your eyes so you cant see it. Hold your hand over your mouth so you can't accidentally speak the truth.
They even added a 4th monkey for these deceitful times. I call him the distraction monkey. His arms are crossed in front of him so both his fingers are pointing away from the truth. Quick look there. Look anywhere except at the truth.

"Bob Mueller's investigation is just beginning," says Kevin Andrew Chambers, white collar partner at Latham & Watkins and former Assistant US Attorney in DC. "It is far too early for anyone to speculate where he will end up and folks should get comfortable with the fact that it could be a couple years before he reports his findings." -- CNN website
I hate to think this is going to drag out that long, but I think the chances that it will are very likely. There's no way Kasowitz is going to be able to keep Tweety from digging himself ever deeper into a hole for that long. The fact that he managed to keep him from tweeting during Comey's hearing was an amazing feat, but Tweety just can't help himself. He'll blunder along, refuse to listen to the advice he is paying for, and just continue to dig himself every deeper into the hole.

"At This Point In His Presidency, Obamaâs Biggest Scandal Was Using Dijon Mustard Yet Fox News seems to have no problem with Trump putting ketchup on his well-done steaks. By Sebastian Murdock
Kevin Lamarque / Reuters Former President Barack Obama receives his âfancyâ lunch order at Rayâs Hell Burger in Arlington, Virginia, in May 2009.
As President Donald Trump continues to erode American democracy, you can at least take comfort in knowing he isnât using Dijon mustard on his burgers.
In May 2009, Fox News host Sean Hannity devoted airtime on his show to a frank, honest conversation about whether then-President Barack Obama was capable of leading the country. His biggest issue was that America could not trust a president that uses Dijon mustard on his food.
âTake a look at [Obama] ordering his burger with a very special condiment,â Hannity said on his program at the time, before showing a clip of POTUS at a Virginia restaurant.
âIâm gonna have your very basic cheddar cheeseburger, medium-well,â Obama told the cashier. âI just want mustard, no ketchup. You got a spicy mustard or something like that? Dijon mustard or something?â
âI hope you enjoyed that fancy burger,â Hannity shot back.
Eight years later, the U.S. now has a president who has bragged about sexually assaulting women, is accused of colluding with Russia to help him win an election, golfs more than he leads, ignores climate change evidence, and petulantly shoves world leaders when he doesnât get to be the center of attention.
Oh, he also eats his steaks well-done with ketchup.
Itâs unclear why Hannityâs investigation never led to the removal of President Obama, but at least the American people can finally rest assured that these types of scandals are finally over."

Personally, I'll be glad to see the little weasel out of there. I thought for sure he would resign before he has to testify in front of congress on Tuesday abut the budget because I figured he wouldn't want to be asked other questions under oath about his possible third undisclosed meeting. We still have Monday I guess.
