Hello - We had another sunny day here, with temps in the 50s. Hope your weather has been nice today. Ginny - I hope you slept well and haven't been chilled today and that you were able to do some embroidery. Ruth - I'm so sorry to hear that you are still in pain and that your doctor won't help you without seeing you. I hope that you will start to feel better so that you can get into an appointment if you want. Those 10 hats are going to be enjoyed by someone, that's a big achievement and I hope you can make more this month. I finished making one of the Moda Blockheads blocks this morning and I picked out and cut the fabrics for the other two blocks, so I should be able to get them done tomorrow morning. This block has 45 pieces in it! I really enjoyed the quilt along for Moda Blockheads 4 last year, but I'm not enjoying the patterns as much this year. I find that they are not written as well as last year, with some pieces not being identified in the diagrams and there are no pressing instructions, which I like. I think there is only one more block in this first half, so I'll be glad to get those done next week and then decide if I do want to continue with any of these colorways in January. If I do the quilt along at all next year, I may just start with new fabrics. Take care and have a good weekend

Just a short hello….
CJ- Really…..pressing instructions ought to be included especially if a block has 45 pieces in it!!!
Ruth, praying that you can get comfortable tonight…I feel awful that you are in such pain. Can you handle the maximum dose of Ibuprofen?p

CJ, 45 pieces is way too many for one block. I'm also sorry that you don't care much for the moda Blockhead pattern this year. If people can't write instructions correctly they shouldn't be publishing patterns.
Ginny, God answered your prayer and I got a good nights sleep. I usually toss and turn a lot and last night I was able to even turn without pain. Today, so far, it's just an ache and tightness in the ribs. I hope you were able to get some embroidery done as you were planning
And thank you both!!!

Hello Ginny - Hope you are having a good day. Ruth - I'm glad to hear that you slept better last night and the pain is a bit better too. Hope it continues to improve. I was surprised that the patterns were a bit different his year, but when I look back at the patterns for Blockheads 1, 2, and 3 - they all look a bit different. I guess it depends on who is running the quilt along. I mostly follow the pictures in the pattern, I'm bad about not reading the actual words This morning I finished piecing the other two blocks and I'm glad to be done. My iron died on me yesterday (an inexpensive Black and Decker), so I had to use the new mini iron (Oliso) that I bought recently at JoAnns. It's alright but I need a bigger iron to press the whole block, so I'll get a new one next week. I'm disappointed that my fabric choices for the floral and the blue/tan blocks weren't that great. I sure wish I hadn't made two blue stars in the one block, you kind of lose the pattern. The block that looks like it's yellow and gray is really yellow and a light blue. For me, this is problem with fat quarter bundles, some fabrics go great together, but others don't. These bundles cost over $100 each, so it's too bad they aren't working great for these blocks. I'll have enough of them left to make another quilt. I think it's ironic that the block I like the best this week is the JoAnn fabric special The one with the light blue, purple, print and white shows off the pattern the best. I'm including pictures and also pictures of my two Pat Sloan blocks from this week. Hope you all get to do some crafting this weekend too. Take care

Thank you Lord that Ruth was able to rest well last night!!! That is awesome news, so very glad to hear Ruth, that you are more comfortable, and I will pray that this trend continues. Did you feel good enough to crochet a bit? And yes I agree that if a person cannot write good instructions then they should not be writing them.
CJ- first off that stinks that your old iron died. Glad you have a newer one to use in its stead….I have a Rowenta that I like, but it was given to me by someone who got it for free. Oh and I also have an old black and decker or Hamilton beach…. Your blocks are so pretty!!! You might think I am nuts but I do like the blue/ tan block best. Personal taste is everything….oh and by the way….go back and check out the paragraph that the thread is opened with each Monday. I might have added a special statement at the end just for you this past Monday.
DD and her two little ones were here for awhile, which was great to spend time with them. My new DGD got to meet her uncle for the first time. For a big person he is very gentle with babies.
Gonna bring in the bird feeder and perhaps spend a few more minutes by the fire outside. Think tonight is a good evening to embroider.
Blessings Ginny

Ginny - I went back and saw what you posted Those fat quarter bundles pull you in with all the pretty fabrics and then when you start trying to use them together it's not easy!

Actually CJ, I was going to let it slide…and see if eventually anyone noticed the comment about fat quarter bundles.. but you mentioned them again and how you will not ever buy another. I have a fat quarter bundle which I have plans to use on a scrappy quilt, so I guess that will work. So that should work for my application.. But I feel bad for you! I know you will figure something out. You have mentioned table runners, which perhaps only need 3 or 4 fabrics (plus an off white or white background fabric). Guess that is one way to use them up.
Love the time change, although I will be less happy when the sun sets early.
Ruth, hope that you rested well last night and are more comfortable today.
Ginny

Good afternoon all. CJ, I see what you mean, the yellow and light blue really doesn't show the pattern well. The one next to it really shows it well and is a beautiful block. If that's the one at Joann's well I'd say their fabric is really nice. I'm sorry to hear that your iron died. For you, and iron gets a lot of use. I have an iron that I've had for years and years. It's also a Black and Decker. I used to iron everything but for years I've hardly ironed at all. I only iron if we are going somewhere where we need to look "put together" well and that is rare. This iron even fell off a stacked washer/dryer, hit me on the head and fell to the floor and the iron continued to work. Anyway, good thing you had just bought that new one, Ginny, It's great that your dd brought the two children to visit and your ds got to meet his new neice. I got some pictures today of my new dgd and she is FAT! Not ugly fat but definitely chubby. She looks just like her oldest brother when he was this age. He's 24 years ol er now and thin. I hope that you were able to enjoy your fire last evening and do some embroidery. The birds won't be happy that you took in their feeder or have they migrated? of course there are always some birds but then again the squirrels that try to eat the seeds can do a lot of damage to your home and then there are the bears.I usually read your opener for this thread...don't know why exactly....but this week I didn't so didn't see the message for CJ either. Well I'm not going to whine but I think I need to see if my doctor will give me some prednisone. I did sleep well again but this morning.......... I'll see you later

Hello Ginny - I'm glad your got to see the grandkids and your DS was able to visit with them. Hope you are getting some of the milder weather that I am. I'm glad you told me about your comment in the opening post, I enjoyed the laugh and smile. I think a fat quarter bundle is perfect for a scrappy quilt, so I hope you enjoy using yours to make a quilt. I'll use up the rest of my fat quarters making something, there are always plenty of patterns to choose from. Ruth - I hope your doctor will give your the prednisone. I'm glad you were able to sleep well. The block you mentioned with the purple star is the JoAnn fabrics one. I really prefer most of the fabric from JoAnns over the brand name fabric - I find that to be very stringy - I guess because it's a higher thread count. I did not get to enjoy sleeping an extra hour this morning, since I woke up before 7:00 with my mind racing about problems and issues I'm dealing with I was hoping I could enjoy that extra sleep. I did make a test block from a video that I saw on YouTube and I'm happy with how it came out. I think I might make 8 more blocks and put them together in 3 rows of 3 and then add a white inner border and a larger red border and have a 60x60 quilt. This block went together so quickly. The green is a bit more of a grass green color than shows in the picture, and the white fabric has snowflakes on it. I can see I need to be careful where the red strips join together, since mine are off a bit: Take care

CJ- that is such a pretty block that you made!! Thanks for the heads up on the snowflakes on the white fabric, I blew the picture up and can see them. You have a great plan to make a quilt from that block- such a pretty idea for Christmas!! Sorry you have so much on your mind these days. I once read that its a good idea to go to bed with a pad of paper next to the bed, so if you are bothered by all those things that you do not want to forget, to write the thoughts on the pad so you can rest assured that you will not forget what you wanted to remember. Think I am going to keep the fat quarter bundle comment in our thread opening statement…just so you know you are loved!!!
Ruth, I really hope you can convince your doctor to prescribe some prednisone for you. Do you overall think you are improving- but I gather if you are asking for prednisone you are not. Continued prayers that you can get some much needed rest. Oh, and little babies who are only a few months old are supposed to be fat!!! Your DGD will burn off that blubber quickly once she starts to creep and crawl and finally walk. That is awfully special that she looks like her oldest brother.
I pull my bird feeder in every night now and will do so for another month until the bears are in for hibernation. The bear trashed my feeder last year, and I was lucky to be able to bend it back into useable shape. Yes, it is a pain in the neck to bring it in each evening and put it back out again, but I love my birds and do not want the bear to ruin the feeder. I did hear this evening about another quilt shop….its a bit of a drive but I hear its a large shop with a lot of fabric. Jane and I are already scheming to get there. I did get a few minutes of embroidery in. Had to attend the ordination ceremony for my son in law this evening and that did not leave me with much time to play with my machine.
Hope both of you sleep well. G

CJ, I'm sorry that you have some problems and issues to deal with. It's great that we all have our craft projects to give us something to take our minds off our problems ut unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem but does give us some respite. Now this block you have posted today is maybe one of the top five, if not the top, of my favorite of your blocks. It's looks simple but it's beautiful. I see the snowflakes too and I think you have a great idea in putting it together in that nice size quilt. Since you mentioned the red I can see where a couple are a very, very tiny bit off but I don't think that most people would notice.
Ginny, when you mentioned taking the feeders in I thought you meant you were taking them in for the winter but I get it now. I wouldn't want bears in my yard at all.I know there are bears in the mountain but they never seem to come down here, thankfully.
Now I forget that else I wanted to say so guess I'll go make a hat. I did get some prednisone...not from my refuse to order on the phone doctor...and it's working well. Took the first one yesterday and what a relief. The stuff is magic.Still hurts a little but I'm happy now with the progress. It's been 11 days so about time
