Good morning!
Very sorry to read about the shooting of Congressman Scalise and the two Capitol police officers. Wishing them all well and a speedy recovery. As bad as it was, also grateful that it was not worse and that the gunman was apprehended before anyone else could be hurt or killed. As a nation, regardless of party, how long is it going to take before we're going to rise up and say Enough!
Also read this morning that Megyn Kelly is losing, at least temporarily, some advertisers because of her upcoming interview with that sleazebag Alex Jones. That's not going to stop his being allowed to spew his hatred over the airwaves, but it may at least make the executives stop and think. While decency and common sense don't seem to carry much weight in programming decisions, money always talks.
It's a busy day ahead for me. DH will help me, and we are taking both my mom and my dad to see their GP doctor. Since their appointments fall in the lunch time period, that means they'll miss lunch at the AL and we'll need to get lunch out for them. Which is no longer as easy as it once was. Trying to think of a place where we can easily maneuver two wheelchairs and that will also not be so noisy or congested that it will agitate my mom. Right now I think Steak 'n Shake may be our best bet. It is situated so it is easy to get into, has tables as well as booths, and while the service there is very slow, the times I have been before it has not been that crowded or noisy--maybe because the service is very slow.
Check back later, and wishing you all a lovely day!

Joyce, I don't think this or any future incidents will be a wake up call for anyone to say " enough"...Change needs to start at the top, & we know for sure the person in the WH is more than willing to fan the flames of discontent & stir up the hateful rhetoric if it benefits his agenda...If these grown men were so traumatized by this incident, & I'm sure they were, can you imagine the horror & feelings of those Sandy Hook kids & teachers.....or any other mass shooting. Did anything change...NOPE! Gabby Giffords tweets out support & prayers for those involved in today's incident & what happens...?... Ugly personal tweets accusing her of trying to use this as a way to take away their 2nd A. rights. Go figure, huh! ... And then there are those who use this incident to blame this all on the "Libs"...whatever, we know who's really been stoking the flames of hatred lately & he's in the WH tweeting.... .. If the GOP congress & Trump supporters aren't willing to send a message to "their" President, then nothing will change.

Yes, I'm truly sorry this shooting happened. But, what a shame that it takes this for the Republican Congress to even blink when it comes to reasonable gun control. Good point about the terror those children and teachers must have felt at Sandy Hook, and the terror by so many others in so many other venues around the country. Yet Republicans continue to refuse to even discuss trying to come up with a reasonable plan for controlling who has access to guns. Sure someone could have been injured or killed with a knife. Someone could have been injured or killed in many, many ways. That's no reason not to do what we can to try and prevent incidents like this one. Those who refuse to even consider the possibility of trying to implement a reasonable, well thought out gun control plan are incredibly short sighted and frankly, just plain stupid.
As for the JA in the WH stirring flames of discontent and hatred, I agree about that too. In fact he seems to get a lot of pleasure out of throwing gasoline on the flames.
I almost choked on my coffee this morning when I read a FB post saying that this "friend" had never seen so much hatred directed against a President as there is against Tweety. And another "friend" chimed in with agreement. Seriously?!! The second friend said they didn't know why we couldn't just let things go now that the election is over. First of all, we don't let "things" go because we actually care about the country, not just about elections. Secondly, are they so blind they truly are oblivious to all the hate that did and is STILL going around out there about both the Obamas and the Clintons? How blind and deaf can you be?

On my way to the bench with a bucket of glue and some duct tape. Otherwise, it might not be pretty.

Oh, such short memories the Obama & Clinton haters have. The awful depictions of the Obama family that were all over FB, WW message Boards, etc, was awful. Calling for Hillary to be locked up, hung, shot, etc...remember that!?...so, when Ivanka is complaining on FOX -about the level of viciousness in Washington, I about gagged..How does she think Sasha & Malia felt when HER Dad was spreading lies about their dad's birth certificate, religion, calling him worst President in History, & every other lie in between...how did Chelsea feel when the JA rally peeps shouted obscenities & wore Tshirts with some pretty porno images of Hilary & carried some very vulgar signs...yup, some people have very short memories. If you get a chance, I think on Huff Post are some of the tweets that Gabby Giffords recieved today. If anyone did not deserve these tweets having been shot herself, it's her. Gun control is out of control & I do not believe it will ever get fixed. JMHO...
I will bring tea to the bench, Joyce....so move over...I have a lot I could say, but out of deference to the incident this morning & those recovering, I will zip my lip. I hope they recover quickly...I don't agree with their policies, but I do believe this was a horrible thing that happened to them this morning.

Yes, policies withstanding this was a terrible thing that happened this morning, and my condolences go out to all those who were involved whether injured, a bystander, or family. This sort of thing should never happen anywhere to anyone. It happened, IMHO, not because of anyone's particular policies but because there are some sick people out there on both sides of the fence. The sooner we all recognize this, and start working towards solutions rather than increasing the hate rhetoric the better. Throwing stones is never helpful.

Interesting tidbit . . . Faux "news" has dropped it's fair and balanced slogan. Of course, they were never either fair or balanced but interesting they're no longer even pretending to be.

Everything Linda said in her first post about "what will it take" is exactly the way I feel!
The cries of little children being slaughtered didn't move us to turn away in disgust from guns and those that make and sell them. That horror should have encouraged and prompted us to get these killing machines completely out of our lives and our mindset and finally say, "enough!" But, it didn't. So, until we become a rational, sane, and mindful people that have had enough of this insanity, instead of irrational, mindless, and foolish people nothing will change. It will only get worse.

retiredinaz , glad you find our thread of interest, and we're happy to have you join us here as we welcome visitors and friends alike. I absolutely agree with you that, "immediately blaming all people of same political party for actions of a crazy man living out of his backpack is not going to help anything." In fact, I think that was mentioned above in that we are seeing so much on FB as well as other social media where anyone liberal, progressive, or just opposed to the current administration are being maligned as a group. So glad that you see this is wrong too. As for snarky names, perhaps nicknames used within a group of friends is also a good way to vent frustrations. I think if you visit with us more often, you will see this thread can be very critical of politicians and policies that we vehemently disagree with, and we make a lot of strong points that we have carefully considered and strongly believe. We do not, however, ever single out ordinary individuals or make vicious remarks against people who also post socially but with whom we politically disagree--unlike what is often seen on many social media sites, some of which you may be familiar with as well. We also try to stay well informed on the issues of the day, and can be critical of both political parties when the need arises. We are an intelligent, thoughtful group of friends who care about each other and most importantly care deeply about our country. So please feel free to join us anytime. We're happy to share our views with all who stop by, and are always ready to make a new friend.

Well, he did it to himself. Tweety is his own worst enemy. He's been so worried about whether or not he's under investigation for obstruction of justice, and now he doesn't have to wonder any longer. It's official that he is. I have no idea how long this will all drag out, but I will be very surprised if a lot more dirt doesn't surface. I won't be surprised, however, if like Nixon he ends up resigning to try and avoid jail. Pence must be drinking a toast in celebration tonight, although who knows but what he is in all this up to his eyebrows as well. Sooner or later, however, it's all going to come out. Of course, if Pence should go down too that leaves us with Ryan. No matter what there's no hope for real relief until 2020.

With all due respect to our Guest, let me explain what I do....I gave up a good job, to stay home & care for our special needs adult son who has a seizure disorder...This I've been doing for 46 years now. With no respite care. In the mean time, I was on the Board of our local ARC, for 15 years, prompting needed changes in our community involving group homes, employment for Special needs adults & great classrooms for Special Ed students, I volunteered at local ARC thrift store & managed it for several years without a wage as the profits went to supporting the group home & local workplace for those with special needs, I was actively involved in starting ABLE (Acquiring the Basics for Living & Employment) Center....I volunteer wherever I am asked for various things if I can fit it in the caregiving requirements of our son, I also raised 2 other kids, one of which is a Republican, but I love him never the less ;-)... am a Grandmother of 5, I do donate $$$ to many causes regardless of politics because sometimes it's $$ that help. I also started a Little Free Library in my neighborhood, in my yard, to promote reading for kids. I buy the books from my own money & many kids are now stopping by to pick up a book to read & are starting to donate books back to share with others. Oh, I also garden, or play in the dirt as I like to call it, (great mental therapy) , so I guess I really do get my hands dirty.
So, please Guest, explain what you do in your corner of the world to make this a better place. We would love to hear...😊
