I thought the willing suspension of disbelief only applied to reading fiction. But it has a firm hold on the Republicans. Among the actual politicians I believe they know what they are endorsing. They are making a cynical choice in order to hang onto their jobs and wield power. I suppose some have convinced themselves that the repellent part of DT is worth it to advance their (IMO) equally repellent policies.

Lani, I agree. It's one thing to make an informed decision, however disgusting that decision may be. It's another to be conned and truly believe that man cares about anyone other than his own ego. It also emboldened racists to say the inside voices out loud. It was quite something starting in 2016 to see it. We always had the few fringe relatives and friends of friends of friends who said appallingly schizophrenic-like thoughts on life, but suddenly you had what seemed like normal sane people saying horribly racist things, having such venom for anyone they deemed liberal or liberal-friendly, an extreme hatred for immigrants (when black or brown of course, immigrants from Europe or Canada are fine in their minds), and a sudden contempt for education and knowledge, unless that knowledge comes from fox or breitbart. He made them feel they could say whatever they want and what's worse, take pride in those disgusting concepts.

They know right from wrong. They just don't give a damn. The few people I know who like trump are not decent people. Liars, cheats, and a sexual pervert who is a senior citizen.
President Biden is too decent for them. I know he's not perfect. Nobody is. But, he is a decent guy. Don trump is a disgusting and disgraceful human being, whose daddy was friends with nazis.
If this is the best the Republicans can do we've got troubles. Right here in our own back yard. This isn't your grandparents or your parents Republican party that's for sure.
This is an out of control cult Hell bent on destroying democracy and the people cheer him on. Fools. I don't get it. Do you?

Birdgal it baffles me!!
My boyfriend and I were just discussing it yesterday and he thinks this years election will be similar to last time. That Biden will win but a shocking amount of people will vote for Trump to make it look close on election night but as mail in ballots are counted Biden will claim it. What I was saying is frightening beyond that is when Trump loses again, if we thought Jan 6 was bad I am certain the mouth breathers will outdo themselves this time. So security measures will have to be taken in all kinds of places between November and January.

I got into a 'discussion' on yahoo about "TDS" (what the maga cult calls "Trump Derangement Syndrome). They define it as, basically, hating Trump and thinking about him all the time. I countered with(me, being a smart ass) "you mean "TDS = undying adoration for Trump and living for his endless drivel". Guy counters with "we love Trump, can you say the same for Biden?" me: I don't have to LOVE Biden, he's not my husband. I do expect him to do his job (which he is), not golf every weekend while lining his pockets by up charging the secret service and staff at his own resorts, not be a sexual predator, not swoon over genocidal dictators, not commit fraud and other crimes. But the fact that you use the word "love" only proves MY point that TDS is a maga condition.

Exactly. They’re all pro fetus for the period of gestation but a baby born into poverty can go eff themselves. “Get a job you freeloader” is the ultimate sentiment by the phonies with crocodile tears for the unborn.

And before anyone gets upset I realize not every pro lifer shares that sentiment. My mom is fiercely pro life but also wholeheartedly supports programs to help families in need, volunteers at homeless programs for childcare services while the parents get help on bills and job seeking opportunities (or not, she’s not judging) and works with programs to distribute free meals to anyone who needs it. She puts her money where her mouth is.

The ridiculous part about slashing free lunch and meal programs for children in need is that it’s literally the smallest part and most negligible % wise of a fiscal budget.
I’m so happy that post Covid relief era, CA chose to keep offering free breakfast and lunch at all the public schools. I’m ashamed of any state that ended it.

DotRen, finreporter, Back in the early 70's I lived in the Los Angeles area. The LA Times had a Sunday section where they ran a cartoon by the cartoonist and satirist, Jules Feiffer. Well way back then he did a cartoon about the right and how they protect the baby when the mother is pregnant but abandons them both when the baby is born. So, they haven't changed in over 50 years.

I have to say, the irony of "indictment donny" still using "crooked joe" as a call to arms for his fan boys is funny. Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the most indictments of them all?

I was watching interviews with Michigan Democratic voters who were marking "uncommitted" in the primary to protest U.S. support of Israel. I get that they are suffering; many had lost a number of family members in Gaza. However, one woman who was interviewed stated that she was willing to suffer "short-term pain", meaning a Trump presidency, in order to get the Democratic party she wants. If people think having DT back in charge will only be short-term pain, I call that extreme naivete.
I hope there aren't many taking this view.
