Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Had a good day yesterday. Mostly quiet and I just did a few thing around the house. Had choir practice last night. We have started practicing some of our Christmas music in addition to our regular Sunday songs. Today is our senior luncheon that I will help with. Then I have a plumber coming this afternoon. My garbage disposal and my ice maker have both died! Then Celebrate Recovery tonight. I'm determined to go even though I don't "want" to! I have to give it a try. It is a fine line for me balancing truly enjoying being at my home by myself and dipping into the isolation that gets me into trouble.
I thought I had told you all that Scout died a few weeks ago. Maybe I didn't. I had taken him to the vet for a routine nail trim and such and she thought his nose looked swollen. He wasn't acting like it hurt at all or was in any discomfort. We put him on a round of antibiotics incase it was an infection and that really didn't do anything. So I took him back and they sedated him and did an X-ray. They found a massive tumor in his nasal cavity and given his age (13) and his tiny size there was no way he could have withstood treatment so the painful decision was made to let him go. I miss him like crazy. It took me a couple of weeks to even be able to put his food and water bowls away. I will get another dog but I'm going to wait a little while. I know I need to focus on my own health both mental and physical for now.
Hope everyone has a good day. Murphy

Water aerobics was good. We split into 2 groups and learned a quick "artistic swimming" routine, the judge called a tie. It wasn't quite as good a workout as the instructor, who is also the Activities Director did a lot of talking about the upcoming change in property management company. When I got back home DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk. When we got back I watered the porch and container plants, had lunch, then it was time to go for my haircut. It's a little shorter, I think I'm going to like it. I went shopping at Walmart, managed to get in a mysterious traffic jam on the highway. It's one of those where you sit through multiple lights and never really see a reason for the delay. The Dallas Walmart usually has a nice plant selection, but it was sad yesterday. They didn't have any vegetables at all. I'm thinking about putting out more tomato plants, I think there's time for them to produce before the frost. We had BLT's for dinner. After dinner I watched the Olympics and stitched. I stayed up a bit later than I should have, then tossed and turned before finally falling asleep. The bee stings are settling down a bit with the itching.
Another sunny day, probably will mow the yard, ugh.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF, up early. Hope you enjoyed the Panera meet up. DH is very good about eating leftovers so we don't throw out that much. Hope you find some good projects in the knitting pattern book. Yay for it being cooler! The ATL weather guy was saying they've had 45 straight days of over 90 degrees, I think we've had a few only in the 80's out here in the burbs. NR does have a thing for the occult, I'm reading one now about 3 couples fighting a demon that appears every 7 years. Not really my thing but I do enjoy her writing. I bought the cucumbers as bedding plants, probably at Walmart. I may try to harvest a few seeds and see what happens next spring.
Cindy- I'm still thinking about the crazy traffic incident you described. I guess everyone grieves differently, but it does seem like your friend is rushing things. Yay for finding camo pants. Glad you felt better by the evening and didn't go for the non-existent dental dental appointment. We have a lot of wasps but they aren't aggressive. I think I had heard of balayage, probably through DD talking about it. When is your birthday? I should be able to remember, but somehow don't.
Cathy- Glad you had fun at the pool pot luck, hope you enjoy cards today.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you had a good day yesterday. It must be fun practicing Christmas songs. Hope all goes well with the senior luncheon. Sorry about your garbage disposal and ice maker, it's always something, isn't it? I think Celebrate Recovery will be good for you. I'm so, so sorry about Scout. He was a lucky boy to have had you.

M-W Word of the Day
reify verb | RAY-uh-fye What It Means Reifying is about considering or representing something abstract as a material or concrete thing. If you reify a concept or idea you somehow give it definite content and form. // The tense personal dynamic between the two musicians was reified by the dissonant yet captivating music they made together.

Plumber is here. I'm praying that it doesn't cost more than the cash I have here! I know I said I was going to wait on another dog but they have the cutest little Chi on the site today! Her name is Twitter! I sent Tyrine a message to see if maybe I could "babysit" her for a few days! I'm kind of praying that someone else has already spoken for her! LOL
Senior luncheon was good. I think we had about 60 there plus 12 volunteers. Everything went very smoothly though. Still plan to go to CR tonight. I'm also going to check out individual counseling. That might be a better fit for my personality but I'm going to try CR.

Hi friends! We went to Venice, FL today —about 1/2 hour away. The shark tooth capital of the world! DS found 11, DH 5 and I only found 1!! But it was fun! The storm blew in a gazillion sea urchins. I was quite excited at first! But do they SMELL! I may throw mine away and just buy one! Plus the beach smells—eww! I also read that sewage is in the gulf and not to swim. Maybe I should try to look at the public beach flags. The thought grosses me out though! Amy, I’m sorry about the wasp stings. Ouch!
Jan, we’re still thinking of FL. It’s really HOT but we figured we go out in the morning and evening times. I was just reading they think the flooding is so bad because of all of the construction—no more soil/sand to soak in the water, just concrete now. Pups and kitty are doing good. Sure do miss those buggers!
Cindy, you are such a good friend. I’m sure happy you didn’t go to your non-appointment.
Vicki, good luck to DD! I was a flight attendant for United for 5 years. Once I got pregnant I quit. There was no way I could continue that job with a baby. DH was traveling a lot at that time too.
Cathy, have fun at your pool party! Murphy, im so incredibly sorry about Scout. He sure had a loving life with you. IhopeyougetTwitter!

September 2 Hi all. I'm so messed up when I don't do this in the morning My fitbit said I got 3 hours of sleep, from 3 am -7. But then it said I also got 3 hours from 10-1. I don't remember being awake for 2 hours in the night but guess it thought I was. Maybe why I'm always so tired in the day, just not sleeping very soundly. Pretty much got up, coffee, shower and headed out to knitting. One of the girls had asked me to bring my Babar to share again, so I did, and it was so they could present me with a little crown and a glittery sash that said Craft Queen They are so funny. After lunch out I headed over to a garage sale I'd read about that had a lot of craft things for sale. Danger. Some older lady had died and just had tons of quilting things, cross stitch, sewing, plus a lot of vintage odds and ends. I had picked out a number of x stitch items, a book, some old puzzles, a hard doll case that my Babar will fit into for storage. I kept looking at this quilt that was in pieces, and finally the guy just said take it, plus some other fabric. He told me all for $7 but I gave him the 10 I had. Now what to do with it all. Now just home hanging out and will knit a bit more with the TV on. Going to make some kind of enchilada casserole tonight for our dinner, use some of the grilled chicken from last night. Hope you have all had a good day so far. Check in tomorrow, Jan Murphy Hope the plumber didn't have bad news. Glad the senior luncheon went well and is so well attended. So sorry to hear about Scout, he had a good life with you. The loss would have been a trigger for me, it's hard to lose fur babies. If you decide to get Twitter will you have to change his name to X If it's the right time, it will happen. GL at CR tonight. Find what works and feels comfortable for you. Amy Sorry the plants at Walmart were a disappointment. There is nary a plant to be found at any of our stores anymore, only at a nursery. DH cut off the last of our glads yesterday and brought them in for a vase. They were flopping over after the last rain, and mostly done anyway. Will have to see if any come back next year, I'm not digging them up for winter. This NR book is probably what's giving me crazy dreams One woman was picked up as she was hitch hiking home and has been locked in a basement as a "slave", she's the "lost sister" no one knows what happened too. I know it's all going to come around but it's pretty long winded and frightening. Glad the bee stings are settling down. Carole Would not like the stick if I lived near the beach during those times. DS said after the hurricane in new orleans, everything smelled so bad, between the sea gunk and the rotting garbage. Rats everywhere. No thanks. Certainly would need a place with a pool and not just the beach, for when it gets so polluted. Bet the pups will be so glad to see you. Cathy Sounds like fun with friends, glad the bathing suit worked and you may get to the beach. Cindy Costco for the win! Glad you figure you can use the pants for the garden. Sounds like the friend just doesn't want to slow down at all because then the thoughts catch up to you, so stay busy. Or do you think the DH had been sick for so long that she'd already let him go? Has he been in hospice or care long, I can't remember. Glad she is near her daughter and won't be at your house all the time. yay for checking the dentist and no drive to town. It is hard to shop at Costco for food when there's only 2 of us/you. Waving hi

Well the disposal is replaced and the ice maker is fixed (I hope) and I'm $350 poorer! The rest of this month is going to be tight for sure! Glad I got groceries on Monday. I will go through the chest freezer tomorrow and inventory and I'll be ok. I'm not triggered but I am just kind of mentally and emotionally fried. I'm choosing not to go to CR tonight. Maybe I'm just making an excuse but I just can't focus. I'll be ok I just need to get my head on straight about the rest of the month. I am grateful that I'm not drinking!

Hi All!
Another (I have retyped that word 5 times) off day. My grammar may be a mess, lol!
Talked with my friend from junior high school. She lives in France and we share our birthday. It made me sad that she said every August is more difficult. I know what she meant but it made me concern. She has a frozen shoulder and a knee problem. I have no idea about medical care in France. She didn't mention her husband which is also a concern.
Murphy, I'm sorry about Scout passing. I know you miss him. Hugs! What is happening with Twitter? I don't know how CR works in different areas but here they have a dinner hour, then a discussion hour plus. Anyone can attend the dinner hour but it is all about fellowship. I believe in individual counseling. Does your church offer any counseling? Glad the ice maker and garbage disposal are fixed. Don't let yourself get fried. When I had to have a replacement A/C and a repair on the second unit, it was WTH! Then with the storm and losing a screen window....oh and the blind in the detached garage....what am I going to do. One step at the time and vent away! I think many feeling stressed. I like having some disposable income but so far it isn't happening this year. Hugs.
Amy, whispering my birthday is tomorrow. I think "artistic swimming" would be fun. I hope the change to a new property management group is to your advantage. I feel for the mysterious traffic jam. Glad the stings are getting better. I laughed about the guinea pig slippers. Ds's first pet was a guinea pig.
Jan, you are lucky Rodgers has left the Packers....couldn't play in a preseason game due to weather...though the team played. Was happy Patriots won the preseason game but not impressed with our quarterback. I wish we had a good thrift shop. There is one near me that I still need to check out. It is staffed by volunteers so hours vary. I do think my friend doesn't want to slow down. She and her husband had two years to plan but I just don't think either of them thought the day would come. I use Costco for kitty litter, big container of parmigiana cheese and water. I pick up other stuff like little Bries. And THEN the OMG I need to try that, lol.
Carole, when do you come home? I lived in the Jupiter area very close to the beach. We paid $115K for our foreclosed house and now it is worth a million. We always moved too soon. I think I have a cousin that lives in Venice Beach, would have to talk to another cousin. The storms are creating a lot of situations. Enjoy time in Florida!
Cathy, yay for a bathing suit deal! I should go through mine since it has been awhile since I wore one. Enjoy your tie with friends!
Hi Vicki, how are thing going?
Hugs, Cindy

It was hot and humid in Tripoli yesterday. I told a publisher I would NOT review then book then...got caught up IN the book and skimmed to find out what would happen. My husband doesn't want me to go to the beach with Rosalie BECAUSE 22 or more people have drowned in Lebanon so far this year while in the sea and hit by strong currents (rip tides?) - So, no trip to the beach with Rosalie for me.
I've read the posts but don't have time for individual messages so will just say I value all of you and the support we give and receive from one another.
