WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

C75D4, 9378 fitbit steps.
DGK16 is now DGK17 and passed her driving test for a birthday present. Yikes!!
Beth – I’m sure you of all people know how scary it is for me to stop tracking. At this point it is, for me, just another experiment.
Jan – OK I emailed Cindy with the new site. Hopefully she’ll pop in just so we know she can find us when she’s ready. I totally understand your situation with DS and DH. A united front is a good idea but can only work when you’re really united. Catch 22 for sure. My heart goes out to you.
Edesia – Hearty congrats to shell-shocked niece and nephew. I agree with cutting out almost all of the tracking. I’m going to stop counting points and glasses of water and will no longer be writing down what I eat. I’m aware enough of the ghgs to get them in without actually checking them off on paper. Today I realized that any continued tracking will sort of be missing the point. I will keep up the cycles and will continue to post fitbit steps for motivation. I know this is going to be a slippery slope for a while, but surely worth a try. I’ll continue my monthly WI’s just in case this whole new approach doesn’t work out.
Louise – I’ll be interested to hear your reaction to the book.

I'm going to treat this as a little blog about Intuitive Eating. Interested? So, for example, I'm in no hurry to get out this morning. I was ready to make breakfast and realized I wasn't really hungry. So instead of eating by rote, I'm doing some paperwork and will wait until I really do feel hungry. It occurred to me that when the DGKs are here, they're not ready to eat when they first wake up so we do other stuff until they express an interest in breakfast. She says in the book that kids naturally eat intuitively. We can't do this all the time, but for me right now it's a way of paying attention to hunger signals, something I absolutely never do.

Good morning!
I've downloaded Intuitive Eating onto my Kindle and am going to take a stab at reading it.
Went to WW meeting last night cuz won't be able to make it tonight. Scale's going in the wrong direction again due to urge-resistance challenges.
Was feeling great about my eating over the fall and when I reviewed stuff I see that a big difference is I'd stopped pre-tracking my dinners for the week in etools. So, I decided to pick that up again. I mean I always plan all my dinners a week ahead of time anyway...that's how I make my grocery list each week. If the recipe I'm using isn't already in my e-tools, I add it in. The reason most of them haven't been there is because I always used SFT and most of my recipes are made of power foods. ANYway...I've decided to pick that practice up again and in that spirit have just finished menu planning & making the grocery list for Saturday through Thursday and have filled in all the dinners in e-tools, including entering the recipes that weren't already in there.
Not sure if I've mentioned this to you all but I've been working on a long-term menu planning project which has almost come to fruition.
A couple years ago I decided to save all my menus that I post on the fridge each week. Then I organized them into 4 groups: summer, fall, winter, spring...each one is a 12 or 13 week plan.
I've been tweaking the menus so that most recipes are only used 1x a year (except a few things I use on a weekly or every other week basis, like veggie omelet, chicken & veggie stir fry, and pork chop suey). I also carefully selected a couple of real favorites that we have about 1x a season (like spaghetti sauce).
I keep a list of "tried & true recipes" organized in my binder and those are the recipes that are included in the menus. Not ALL the recipes in the binder are in the yearly menu...I have a whole page (in tiny font) of recipe titles that are tried & true that are NOT included & I keep that list with my seasonal menus so that if I want to substitute something I have a ready made list.
There's plenty of room in the seasonal menus to move things around or try new things ("leftovers" and "freezer" are common things to see in the seasonal menus).
When I do my menu plan/grocery list each week I enter the recipes I'm using into e-tools if they're not already there.
Last week marked the start of my "winter menu", which I finalized last spring. So now, for menu planning...I just pull out that winter menu (I have a print out and it goes by "week 1", "week 2", etc). I place a dot next to each meal as I choose it for my current weekly menu...I don't necessarily stick to the order that's on the master winter menu but it really helps to have all of them laid out like that.
This way I know I'm using LOTS of my recipes and I'm not doing repeats. And I don't have to do what I used to do...which is flip through all the pages of my recipe binder each week.
It's AWESOME!!!!!!!

Beth - What a great system. The hardest thing about meals, for me at least, is deciding what to have. So having that all done in advance is an amazing feat. We don't have anywhere near the variety you do though. I could place my entire choice of dinner menus in a 2 week schedule. Well I'm not actually sure of that. I think I'll work on my list when time permits and see how many selections there actually are. DH has a horrible stomach which eliminates so much and then every now and then he jinxes something that's been a staple, like beef stew, for example. I'm going to make it for myself and throw individual portions into seal a meal bags for my own lunches.

C26D3 G6Y3R5 28 SP Treat count remains 23/35 no treat today 3960 steps 3 FP 50 minutes skating 5 FP
Another good eating day. WI down 1.8# which leaves me 5.2# over goal. Picked up "Intuitive Eating" at the library.
After mass and a rosary one of my friends from church asked me if I wanted to go to the LL Bean gift store (Bean HQ is in Freeport about 10 miles from here). Since I was thinking of gifts from there I accepted. Got something for DM and DB. Really feel much better about that because I had gotten nothing except one small gift for DM as of this morning.
I finally got a good view of the "larger" moon as I was driving home from skating. Then I saw clouds slowly obscuring the view. Actually quite beautiful. It's out again now but as I was checking the thermometer I glanced outside to see a fresh cover of snow on the ground. It looks pretty but it also covers up the icy spots.
Maine weather report: I'm showing the temperature actually rose over the last hour or two then dropped again and the current reading is about 3 above what the weather report is showing. There's been a nasty wind out there through out the afternoon and evening and the wind chill is now below zero. The temperature is supposed to fall through the night to -1F at 7 AM tomorrow. Don't know if the wind is supposed to stay blustery.
Good skating lesson. My coach was excited by how well I was doing. That's the last lesson until after the holiday at that location. Supposed to have one more lesson at the other location Saturday morning. The forecast for Sat and Sun keeps switching between snow and rain currently calling for snow on Sat and rain on Sun. So I guess Sat will depend on if it does snow how much it's accumulated by the time I'd need to leave for the 10 AM lesson.
Nancy-a good # of steps there. Congratulations to DGK on getting her driver's license. Re the eating when not hungry. I came home tonight anticipating a sandwich (I had my bigger meal midday because of how late I get in from skating). I really wasn't feeling that hungry. Needed to wait 30 minutes because of one med I'm taking for stomach issues though so had the meal then.
Beth-that's an amazing amount of work you've put into your menu planning. You should publish it as a cookbook. Funny that I was just thinking of doing the opposite re tracking of what you did, dropping the journaling and just logging everything in eTools. I have a stack of journals both of the ones they distribute at meetings and the bound ones that they started this year with. I think I mentioned the last one I got was 50% off which guarantees they are coming up with something different for the new year program-wise.
Congratulations to Great Aunt Edesia.
