Clutter results in inefficiency and can even get in the weigh of our weight loss. Research indicates that folks with messier homes tend to be overweight. If our kitchen is cluttered it might make it harder to prepare healthy foods or just make us want to spend less time there.
When things are cluttered we feel overwhelmed. We don't know where to start. We respond by not starting at all.
Some tips: - Break large tasks into smaller tasks. Cleaning the office is a huge task. the subtasks of organizing the desk, filing the papers, picking up the floor make it seem doable. - 1 minute rule: Do things that take 1 minute or less instead of putting them off. - Bring it with you: Every time you leave a room Bring one thing with you. Put it closer to the place it belongs. Eventually it will make it to the proper location, get Put away or where it belongs. - Work in 5 minute spurts. It can be hard to commit an hour or two to a task. But we all have 5 minutes we can spare. Just commit to doing what you can in a 5 minute period, set a timer, then do it. You'll be surprised at how much you can accomplish. - Don't be afraid to toss, sell or donate things you haven't used in ages.
QOTD: What are your decluttering tips? Take 5-15 minutes and use it to declutter something.

I need to declutter in so many different areas. My tips are above. Today I'll work on the kitchen island and my desk.

What are your decluttering tips? I try to follow Fly Lady tips. I always do the morning routine but have trouble with her evening routine but I am working on it. I try to clean up as I go that really helps with cooking and crafts etc.
Take 5-15 minutes and use it to declutter something. I try to do a chore then rest for 15 minutes using the timer on my phone then move back to my chores.
Have a blessed day. Karen

I have used the 5 or 10 minute decluttering/cleaning tip. It works, but I'm not very consistent at it. I'm going to try to do that this week, then maybe I'll have things more neat looking for Christmas.

I am always so pleased with how much I can get done in a relatively short period of time. I have to watch out for procrastination. The main living parts of our home are completely clutter free - living room; dining room; family room; bathrooms and guest room and kitchen.
Now the rooms that need attention are DH's office; basement; garage. I do my best - He has a terrible time getting rid of anything. I am the opposite. I give away what I believe anyone can use and throw away other things that are truly of no use. I have learned to live with this because after all he respects all those rooms that I keep clutter free. Without a doubt I can see the connection with weight lost. Clutter in my living space truly causes me anxiety. Marie

I have "stuff". I'm sure some would call it clutter.
I know that empty is praised & understand that there is a clinical and dangerous level of clutter. I'm not at either end of that spectrum. I'm not sure if I'm justifying and defending myself or if it's possible to have "stuff" and not have some sort of terrible issue. I enjoy reading and books, I enjoy different crafts, which require supplies. The supplies are in the area where I craft. The books are on shelves. All rooms are completely functional.
Impact on my life - I don't know. (other than the fact that the current trend seems to be to get rid of everything, which causes me anxiety because I'm not doing that!)
The current season probably brings a bit of different feeling about this - being the season of getting out and using/seeing items that are used only once a year at holiday season, seeing items that remind me of people and places.

Late but want to share that setting aside a few minutes a day does work. I find a deadline does work for me.

decluttering tips: * be willing to get rid of items you don't really wear, use or need * just do it - a bit at a time * my sister has a rule - can't buy something new unless it is replacing something she is getting rid of (in her closet - so a shirt for a shirt)
need to go through my rooms one at a time and really consider and get rid of things. The art room and a room on the main room have become catch-all rooms and need to be dealt with. My daughter is arriving in two days SO have a plan to deal with some of the clutter before she arrives.

I need to declutter. I know it does affect me because I am may end up buying the same thing more than once because I can't find it. Definitely a work in progress.
