This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Hope you all survived, and enjoyed, your Christmas. This i the longest Christmas, and the longest Christmas season, I have ever known. With an early Thanksgiving this year, and a Sunday Christmas, which made this into a long weekend for most, it seemed to last forever. I love seeing all the houses decorated though, but I can live without the daily e-mails about what bargains I will get. Of course there are some things I would love to see as bargains in January.
Carol, thanks for posting with me yesterday. I am copying my reply to you here:
Carol, did you mention you were having foot surgery, or you did already? I should be taking notes on everyone. I find that my back hurts a lot when I try to cook too many dishes at once, so I really have to plan out.
The Plot Against America is different than I thought it would be after the first chapter. It is actually revisionist history, and seeing as I didn't check something from the first chapter, I didn't realize. It's a book about what if someone else was elected instead of FDR in 1940. Won't tell you who though. If you read my earlier post yesterday, I am finding it a much more engrossing read than I originally thought, so read quite a bit yesterday, even though I was out for quite a while at the movies. I thought La La Land was good, not great. I know they say it is a musical, but I would consider it more of a romance. I bought the tickets, then mixed up which theater I bought them at. Good thing we planned to meet so early, because one was only a few minutes from the other, and we ended up finding 2 tickets together that were good ones, so it all worked out. Between the previews they show, a bit of chatting after the movie, then walking the dog when I got home, it took up the entire afternoon. Instead of ordering take-out for dinner, I make a spicy cabbage enchilada casserole, that was very good. I love the Blue Apron dishes, but they end up with a lot of prep time, this one even more than some.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and holiday.
Ours went well. DD and DSIL came. We didn't do much, watched some Christmas movies on Netflix. We had a lot to eat and I think everyone was happy with their gifts. DH and I get to do it all over Thursday when DS and DDIL come.
I thought I my cold was all over, but Saturday the cough was back. I stayed home from church yesterday. I'm still coughing and have almost no voice.
I am reading Chaos by Patricia Cornwell. It is a Kay Scarpetta novel. I don't know why I keep reading these. They really aren't very good. There is not much action. I am more than a quarter of the way in and nothing has happened. It's just been Kay talking or thinking. The characters have changed so much from the earlier books. Also, the crimes in the first few books could have happened to anyone which made the stories scary. Now it is old enemies after Kay or her niece or other relative. I think I am just curious about what happens. I never buy them, always get them from the library.
I got up into the 70s yesterday. Not quite so warm today.

Hello all, our Christmas celebration was to continue today but the weather did not cooperate. We were supposed to go to my sister's (hours drive) for dinner and open presents but it rained and then froze on the roads. It's treacherous so we made an "executive decision" and postponed it. I was really looking forward to it, too.
We had a wonderful time at my DSIL/DBIL house yesterday. Good food, a lot of laughs.
And.........we have some wonderful news.....we're going to be grandparents!!!! Unbelievable - it will be our first! This is our oldest son (31) and his wife. They've been married 3 1/2 yrs.
Carol2, I have the same issue with colds - the never ending coughing. I coughed so much on Friday I was starting to feel sick to my stomach. I remember as a little girl, my mother would give me a cough med. with codeine but you can't even get it without a script now. It was the only med. that worked.
Robin, LaLa Land looks and sounds good to me - easy listening I'll bet.
Have a a good evening!

Good evening. Was 79° here today and very humid.
Am still reading both Pharaoh by Wilbur Smith and Beautiful Storm by Freethy. Both OK, neither really great. I have been perusing the < $5.00 books on Nook for the next week, as my foot surgery is Dec 29th. Need LIGHt reads! I will be unable to bear weight on my right foot for many weeks:(. We spent part of today practicing getting me in and out of the pickup as well as getting up the three steps into the RV. More difficult than you can imagine...
Carol2--I usually do not proof my posts. How does Netflix work? Does it run off of your WiFi? DH thinks I should get that, but we are on a WiFi with everyone in the RV park and I wonder if that will work... Nice that you get a second Xmas! Glad you had an enjoyable first one...
Angie--good decision skipping the icy roads. Congrats on being grandparents! Jill--sorry to see you are still working so much.
Robin--I took down my holiday decorations today. They've been up since T-day and I wanted them packed before my procedure. Enough of Xmas:). Ty for posting during the holidays--we are sort of at loose ends down here and not traveling like we usually do.
