Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: CARING April 1 - May 31
āYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donāt give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letās begin!
Treat yourself the way youād treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donāt want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityā¦.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenāt food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donāt ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donāt have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesā¦.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenāt journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

We got away before 8 yesterday morning, which is really good for us. The trip was mostly uneventful, although we did get stuck in a few traffic jams, mostly construction related. We got stuck in a major jam in southern Indiana for over an hour, an accident right before a rest area that had all lanes closed. There were hundreds of electronic signs along the way that said, "Eclipse: Fuel up, Arrive early, Stay Put, Leave Late". We stopped at McDonald's for breakfast, Texas Roadhouse for dinner, ate Pringles and popcorn in between. We listened to the Iowa/South Carolina game on the radio. We got to Mom's around 8, there must have been a lot of rain b/c there's a lot of standing water in the yards and fields. We only drove through a bit of misting, although we could see rain to the west. Mom's house looks pretty good, some dead flies to clean up. We left the Christmas tree up and decorated, I've got the lights on.
It's bright and sunny this morning, so fingers crossed there won't be a lot of clouds to worry about at eclipse time. We'll head into Kokomo in a bit to get some breakfast.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, blue dot, good day on Saturday. Glad DS sounds good and has a plan.
Carole- Sorry you lost your post.
Cathy- Glad you slept well and were able to talk to your son. Have a good day.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Hope you had a good day with DB.

Good morning all. The sun was a fiery red ball coming up this morning, must know it's his big day! Now it looks like our skies will stay clear through eclipse time so will at least see the change in daylight I suppose. Not sure if I'll still be inside work or not. Felt like I had a pretty good weekend. Still snacky but the chocolate rabbit is gone , all the gifted jelly beans and whopper eggs are in my lunch bag to go to the snack table at work and hopefully DH will work on most of the lemon bars. Tonight we'll grill the steak and I have meals planned for the next few days. Just get through tomorrow at work and then be done. I will go to WW in the morning and get my official WI for the week, whatever it says. Have not committed to the Chicago plan but will need to decide this evening because it's cheaper if I buy tickets ahead online. Guess I better get moving. Need to hop in the shower, get my lunch packed and make a breakfast sandwich. Hope you all have a great day. Jan Murphy Thanks for starting us before heading to your DB. Hope he has a good day. Cindy I know lots of people were heading to Texas and the Dallas area chasing the eclipse. Maybe a good day to stay home if you can Cathy Glad you could talk to family, hope their jet lag clears up soon. Imagine the girls have to be back in school now. Enjoy your day whether you go out with Rosalie or stay home.
Amy Glad you arrived safely at your destination with only a few traffic jams. Yay for the Christmas tree lights You should get a really good view today if it stays sunny there. How long will you stay? Will check in later.

Got to DB's. DSIL is going on a hike with some friends. I'm so happy that she can get out. Stopped at Hardee's to get them breakfast. DB gets focused on one thing and won't let it go. He has lost a pocket knife and we have searched this place completely and haven't found it. Now he says he wants to start all over and search again. Of course, he isn't the one doing the searching! LOL. I'll check back through the day as I can.

Hi girls. We were able to watch the eclipse from our back porch! Pretty cool! We watched until it got to a tiny sliver, then some dark clouds came in. By the time they passed, the sun was growing again! It was pretty cool regardless! Our duet at church went fine. Now Iām practicing a different piece. DHās birthday was quiet but nice. We ended up having hamburgers and French fries at home with cake! I also bought a frozen dessert that we will have tonight. My colonoscopy is Friday. Iāve been reading about the prep. Starting tomorrow Iām not supposed to eat fresh fruits or vegetables or anything with a lot of fiber. Iām not going to the pool tomorrow. Iāve still got a lot of sinus stuff going on. I may go and walk the track if itās raining though. Iāll see how I feel.
Amy: Glad you got to see the eclipse! How long are you staying in Indiana?
Jan: Iām glad you got to talk to DS. Like you said, waitlisted is better than no! And theyāre making their plans. Itās just not fair that Easter candy can trip us up so much! Iāve been doing ok with my eating, except for the birthday desserts! Did you get the eclipse glasses?
Murphy: Hope you were able to find the pocket knife!
Cindy: Were you able to view the eclipse? One of DHās cousins lives in Texas somewhere and was really excited. I hope DS actually asked questions when he went today!
Waving hi to everybody else. Oh, DS just called! Jackson is cleared for baseball! š

Hi friends! Itās been a beautiful day! We saw the eclipse, it was pretty cool! I went for a 3 mile jog and walk since I didnāt workout this morning. I just talked to the kids and they want to go on a vacation this summer! I knew Lex would but thought Ty would be busy or want to save his time off for his girlfriend.
Amy, how did you enjoy the eclipse? Was it a total one?
Jan, just a couple more days of work, right?! What tickets are you buying in Chicago?
Oh! Iāve got to go. Have a great night!

Hi All,
Doing better today. Did a Telemed meeting with my RA doctor and she agreed it was a bad flare in my right leg. I would have preferred a shot but did get pain meds/muscle relaxer. It is feeling better tonight though not healed. Rest and ice. I was using a cane, ankle bandaged, knee bandaged.
And YES! saw the whole Eclipse. It was cloudy in the morning but by 12:30 pm, it had cleared so we knew exactly where the sun was. It was wonderful to watch. Most of the neighborhood was out watching. Could hear lots of cheers!
Murphy, thanks for getting us started. Did DB find his pocketknife? Check all his pockets, car, heck, DS has found one of his in the washing machine. Hope it was a good day all around!
Amy, glad the trip was fairly uneventful though going through one hour traffic jam. How fun to have the Christmas lights to enjoy! Now I'm singing Kokomo....Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya, Bermuda, Bahama, c'mon pretty Mama....
Jan, glad you were able to chat with DS. Glad DS is doing okay, positive vibes it changes from wait list to acceptance. Enjoy your last day of work! I'm missed it too, what are the Chicago tickets?
Cathy, what wonderful trips your granddaughters are able to take! Did you meet up with Rosalie? Get reviews done?
GG, happy birthday to DH! Glad you were able to see the eclipse from your back porch! Yay for Jackson being cleared to play!
Carole, how wonderful that the kids want to take a family vacation! Glad you had a beautiful day!
Hi Liz!
DS saw a gastroenterologist. DS did ask questions and the doctor felt the PC doc was working under an abundance of caution. The PC doctor is the one believing the Covid vaccines have caused a spike in cancer in young people. DS is in good health and the doctor will work with blood work numbers for now. DS felt he had a good chat with the doctor and will follow through with him.
We are having a rain storm with thunder and lightening. Fingers crossed it will move away from our area. For whatever reason, yesterday I looked in the breaker box and saw the circuit breakers had tripped for one of the A/C units. Turned them on and quickly tripped them off. DS had monitored the A/C and it made a terrible sound. So today I called the company and find out it has been sold but they will honor any warranties. There is a 10 year warranty on all parts and a 99 year warranty on the compressor! The unit is four years old.
Back to icing. Saving pills for sleep.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Scale is stuck. I want it unstuck and dropping so will stand firm and keep tracking while staying OP. Not sure what today's lunch will be but we have zucchini, eggplant, cabbage, carrots, and spinach to work with to which a grain and beans will be added along with perhaps a sauce and spices.
I have a review to write for a historical romance and need to read/review a book by tomorrow night...one is a historical romance and light and fluffy even with a murder...woman wearing men's clothing and riding horses as a jockey-wannabe and the other is a contemporary romance with some heat, I think.
