Good morning ~ New Month ~ New or Old Challenges ~ Here's to a wonderful CAN DO in May Month
Yes I Did: track everything, hydrate, get to bed before midnight, finish a few reviews, and stay positive Yes I Can: track every BLT, make healthy choices, walk 30 minutes today
Weather is still overcast. It was a quiet day at home yesterday and will be again today. I am going to cook kale for the first time and will saute it and serve it with sweet potatoes and beets with fruit and yogurt for dessert, probably. Not sure if we will have black eyed peas, too, or not. I could also do green fava beans as we have those. Hmm...
BOOKS: Just realized I haven't posted this so will list the books read since the last book update * Murder by Lamplight by Patrice McDonough ~ Dr. Julia Lewis book 1: Introduces one of the first female doctors in England called in to assist a detective in a murder mystery. can't remember if this is a debut novel or not. Murderer had a difficult childhood and was abused in a workhouse. Historical Fiction. I rated it well * On the Run by Max Luther ~ Alex Drayce book 2: Action-thriller with an English bodyguard working in the USA then given a missing person to find with a Mexican Cartel-Mafia in the mix. A bit like a Reacher novel. I liked it * The Dredge by Brendan Flaherty ~ A debut novel about a small community with children that had a tough time - including murders committed and hidden. Tough read as some of the children were abused and a couple ended up killing people. It was dark and I wondered how the characters would go forward in the future...at least some of them.
* The Still Point by Tammy Greenwood ~ About three girls in high school who have been in ballet since childhood all vying for a spot in a Paris ballet school, their mothers who support them, their lives, etc - I could not get into this book even though I like ballet and wanted to take classes. Not sure why but for some reason this one didn't do it for me though many did like it. * Rescued by the Alien Assassin by Robin O'Connor: quick short steamy alien-human romance. Fun but not deep - I read for this author and enjoyed it...though it is not her best story.
* Because the Baron Broods by Darcy Burke ~ Rogue Rules book 2 ~ Historical Romance with a group of young women and young men that will end up with each other. The first had a young woman "ruined" while caught kissing and the guy did not marry her so she was shunned. This book had another one who is caught almost kissing and he opts to marry her and they get to know one another better after the marriage. I like this author but this book wasn't as believable to me for some reason.
* Skimmed a book I thought needed to be reviewed and found I had already reviewed it - a vegan cookbook * Coven of Ill Reput by S.L. Prater - Gothic Romance and Fantasy with a witch and vampire that will fall in love in a gothic mansion with big issues to overcome. 1/3 through it and will finish it today then move on.
So...here's wishing us all a Magnificent May! or should it be a Merry Month of May?

May 4
Yes I did overeat and not track yesterday and...made a vow to be back OP today Yes I can track every BLT, make healthy OP choices, and get things done!
Looking forward to talking to our daughter this afternoon.
BOOKS: Finished and reviewed The Wife You Know by Chad Zunker. It was interesting and about a woman who saves children, is caught on a video that goes viral, and then she disappears with her three year old daughter. Her wealthy husband of three months spends most of the book looking for her and eventually finds out her backstory (not known when they married) and has a big choice to make. It was good but not exactly what I was expecting. Next up is a bookt hat will archive in hours and am 1/3 through it - Yikes - A Lonesome Place for Dying by nolan Chase. I have read the end so can write the review if I don't finish every word. After that will be a book by Janie Crouch writing a new series in a new genre of mafia romance...that was out yesterday and had not put it on the calendar!

May the Fourth Be With You! (Yes, it is Star Wars day)
Yesterday I DID: --have a good session at the chiropractor --enjoy my cello lesson, made some progress --thoroughly enjoy our first bike ride of the season, 11 miles, mostly along the canal
Yes I CAN: --get back to better sleep habits...late dinners make this more difficult, so I know I need to address that --make some visible progress with decluttering (I get discouraged....) --relax and enjoy a Star Wars video to celebrate the day
Be well! Carol

Happy Cinco de Mayo Sunday! Wednesday, we took off for a Palm Springs overnight get-away. The weather was perfect, the pool was clean and uncrowded and everything was blooming in the desert. Much like here. I have been O.P. today and really tried to stay with it while out of town. But continental breakfast happened, and half a frozen Margarita by the pool. Since then, I have been enjoying fresh corn on the cob, it's been good for so early and also made taco casserole using ground chicken breast and ground turkey. Tonight, pork tenderloin and veggies. The more I cook at home the better I do. Has anyone else seen the Netflix special on Gut health? It's making me choose more fruits and vegetables. Cathy, you always do well with that. Sally: Love your post! My Mantra too. Lots of steps...Not lots of calories. Carol: You are like me fully intending to write here and life just takes over. It's good that we are busy though. Big Howdy to Janet and Nat. May the new week be a success for each of us. Jan

I make this resolution to stay OP every day and by afternoon I find myself not doing what I set out to do. No idea why or how to turn things around and stick with it.
Yes I will do better tomorrow
Books: Finished and reviewed Damaged Kingdom by MJ Crouch and am eager to read book 3 of the 4 book series. Read The Hero by Susan Stoker till 2am and wrote the review this morning. I am reading MINE by Amanda McKinney and trying to figure out who the bad guy is...think I know but there are also some rather dark characters that might not be the true bad guy. There is a book two to this so am going to be stuck with a cliff hanger till the second book is ready.

Happy Monday.
I have stayed O.P. all day today and it's 8 pm. Maybe I should just go to bed? LOL Cooking, planning and actually eating the meals I plan have been working for me but haven't lost any weight...yet. Nothing new really to share but wanted to check in and say hello.
Cathy: We can do this!
Sweet Dreams All,
Jan

Happy Tuesday afternoon, positive peeps 🐥🐥!
Hi Sally! Hope you are feeling better.
Cathy - I too am having trouble staying the course. I have to remind myself that doing some is better than doing none.
Sending love to Nat and Janet, hope all it well with you.
Hi, Jan...Your getaway sounded so nice! Maybe I need to do something like that, just a change of scene would be good. Oh, and I had forgotten about Cinco de Mayo, but as it turns out, we went out to breakfast that day and without realizing the date I ordered the Tex-Mex Omelet, LOL! I agree, I do really well when I'm doing the cooking, not so well on meals out. The scale has not been my friend lately, mostly because of all the planned and unplanned meals out. Today it was pizza at the lunch with my retiree pals...at least one of the slices had a cauliflower crust.
Yes I DID: --enjoy cello choir. We now have at least 3 new people interested in joining the group. The more the merrier! --have a lovely hour long walk around the neighborhood --wind down earlier
Yes I CAN: --work on getting more chores done in the mornings, my more efficient & energetic time --decide whether I can feel comfortable inviting an out of town friend to visit for a couple of days....it would take a massive cleanup effort, not sure i am up for it. --let OK be good enough....whatever that means...
Be well! Carol
