Good morning. Rain overnight but done for the day. 52, windy day, going to 66.
Robin, between moving in early, and my moving fee, plus the first of the month's rent, I am paying out of pocket a lot of money. It is a 1-bedroom house that they put on DB property, not an apartment. No basement, as far as I remember; DB did not have a basement, so I don't think the guys dug one out. That was why they could not expand the footprint of the house, if my memory serves me correctly. You leave today; what happens if your employee cannot come back to work at all this week, are you covered?
Pinky, I hope you avoided the bad weather. I think out of all the concerts we have been to over the years, between our girls and the grands, I loved the elementary school years the best. Yes, the high school years are more polished and all, but those cute kids giving their all is just so special. Tony busted me on FB at 11:30 last night, then told me he will call me tonight to discuss tomorrow. I got a chuckle out of him then immediately got off FB, hahaha. Great idea making things ahead of the busy time there.
Marsha, the solo ensemble this Saturday is the state finals. They had the competition at Preble a while ago, which I went to; DGD's group won 1 out of 4 competitions, so that is what this Saturday is for. DD kept her flute as she would play it occasionally over the years, DD2 trumpet went to DGS, for a while; don't know what happened to it, after he played in elementary and 1 year in middle school and lost interest. DGD4, in 6th grade plays violin. That is cool your DS plays the piano. I like piano music; love it when it is featured in rock music. Who knows why the guys are selling before the draft. I do know for a fact that the first person they rented to trashed the house. So maybe that happened more than they wanted.
Gareth, I have to disagree about the house being just a 1 bedroom so it would be hard to rent. My DS and I talked about the same thing and agreed about how much more room there would be with the house and the garage, plus the garage enlarged for a party room, than a hotel room, even a suite. Tony has 1 DD. No grandchildren, I think I mentioned he looks at her dogs as his grandchildren. He is a monthly donor to 3 outlying human societies, as he loves animals so much. Nice of your DS to bring over dinner, but too bad your DH doesn't care for those.
Carol, I am sorry, I did not take into account the age of your DS. Sometimes hearing things like that makes me want to try and work for the next 10 years, just to keep more active. But I know that most likely won't happen. So sad that we spend so much of our lives hearing not to eat much sodium, then it comes back to kick your DS in the butt. I think we went through 2 or 3 days without that dreaded wind, which will be back today, so I feel your pain.
Anngie, there is just no way that road trip can be shortened into just 1 day. What would be perfect would be for the trip to be rescheduled for maybe a long weekend in September. I would even take a couple days off of school. I think Tony has something up his sleeve, for when we see each other tomorrow. Thank you, lol, I agree about deserving a nice get away. I feel old next to you, as my DDs are 48, and 42.

Karen, I know it's not an apartment, but I can see it as a nice party house. Sometimes when we tailgate it is raining or cold, so it would be really nice to have someplace to go into. And, sometimes it's even very hot to be outside for so long. I am guessing they are thinking they will take their money out now, and work on flipping another house.
I am having trouble with my keyboard, the space bar is sticking, so in case this looks strange. As far as coverage, the paralegal is there, without much to do, so there will be coverage. Someone actually just called, before she would be in, but I picked up. She told me that DS told her to stop by with some paperwork that she can scan and send over to him. I messaged her directions of what she should do. Good thing she called to double check the address, so I could give instructions.
I am liking Still See You Everywhere much more now. Why does it sometimes take almost half the book to set it up so you get to that point? Also reading Expiration Dates late at night. Last night I fell asleep while reading. My glasses must have come off during the night and slipped between the 2 mattresses, but luckily I found them right away. It's overcast today but not raining, so will be fine for the drive.

Finally the sun is shining here---it is 45 degrees now and going to 60. Today we should see the sun most of the day and then rain returning tomorrow. There is a lot of water sitting around in low spots, something we have not seen for a couple of years. Now I need to mow lawn but it is to wet yet.
Karen----no bad weather here thank goodness. I agree that the elementary kids sing their hearts out. I can't wait to hear what Tony has up his sleeve.
Robin---Have a safe trip and enjoy!
I forgot to add to what I had made yesterday was that I finally got around to making my vanilla which I have had the stuff for since before Christmas---it just got to busy at that time and then I guess I kept forgetting about it.
I wonder when these farmers are going to get back in the field as rain is in the forecast every other day through Tuesday.

Karen, I didn't realize the garage had been made into a party room. I was just thinking of overnight wouldn't be large enough with only one bedroom and bath. I knew the DD didn't have any DC. I thought maybe he had another DD or DS
Pinky, vanilla what?
Sunny start to the day like yesterday. I was surprised though that yesterday afternoon it clouded up and drizzled most of the rest of the day. More rain, possible storms tonight and tomorrow so we should by now be out of our drought.

Karen - I looked at the house on zillow. They did a very nice job with it but it is clearly intended as a party house and I would expect that most of the renters would not leave it in pristine shape! But that is why they have a cleaning fee. Maybe they decided they expected the business of airbnb to be easy. Someone will buy it and make a lot of money during the draft, or maybe scrape it off and build a bigger house there. good luck at Solo and Ensemble. September is when we are going to Mackinac!
Robin - I thought you were leaving today. Is the secretary still showing symptoms?
Pinky - how do you make your vanilla?
Hi Gareth.
I started World War Z. It's different. But not boring. I have a few other books on the kindle in case this one doesn't work out. It's so much easier than packing a bunch of paperbacks in my carryon like I used to before kindle! We went out to dinner last night. I had a tuna melt and sweet potato fries and it hit the spot! I think tonight I'll take white chicken chili out of the freezer for dinner, and I have a long grocery list to give to dh to go restock us. Fortunately there are several choices in the freezer for him for when I'm gone. Which is actually only a few days. This morning I took Mitzi for a walk instead of getting on the bike. I checked the heartrate graph on my fitbit and it looked similar to when I bike so I am counting that as an equal workout to the bike.

Gareth----I make my own vanilla---see how I make it in answer to Marsha's question.
Marsha---I put 1 ounce of vanilla beans which I have cut a slit lengthwise in the pod to release the flavor in the hinged/capped 8 ounce glass bottle I buy and then pour 1 cup of vodka over the vanilla beans. Cap them and store for at least 2 months before using, 6 to 12 months sitting in cool dark place is even better. Oh and then shake the bottle every week if you think of it. Lasts pretty much forever. I make 8-10 bottles at a time and keep 2 for myself and then give the rest to DD's and DDIL's and the rest for gifts. It is so easy and once you do it you realize it is the best. You can google it too but I have mostly found this way to do it. It says you can use rum or I think bourbon also but I have never tried these and they say vodka is best. I am sorry but I must have missed where you are going too.

Forgot to say that cheap vodka is what I use---no need to spend a lot of money on it.

Pinky, that's a new one on me making your own vanilla. I know my DSIS always really liked vanilla that she'd bring back from Mexico. I did bring back some too when were in Mexico. Guess I don't use enough vanilla to notice the difference except for it being much cheaper in Mexico.
I can't remember where either Robin or Marsha are off to.
Karen, I was going to say too that it's not that DH doesn't like ribs. He'll eat them. They're just not his favorite like they are for me.

Pinky/Gareth - I'm going to AZ for my mother's unveiling. I know I mentioned it because there was a discussion in which I realized that not everyone has an unveiling, that it seems to be a Jewish thing, but that discussion may have been a while ago. I fly out Saturday morning early and fly home Monday morning early. I'm staying at the same hotel as my brother on Saturday night. The unveiling is Sunday. DB is going straight to the airport from the cemetery because he has to be in L.A. before Monday morning so he has a flight out late afternoon. I couldn't get a flight out other than taking a redeye so I've got a very early Sunday flight and I'm staying at a hotel near the airport on Sunday night. Saturday I'm going to see my friend that lives there, then Saturday night dinner at my cousin's. I'll see my aunt in between. A friend of my mother's is hosting a lunch after the unveiling and after that I don't know what I'm doing. Hopefully my cousin from L.A. will still be in town and I'll hang out with her and her mother, maybe we'll get dinner, then I'll go to the hotel.

Marsha, I remember the discussion about unveilings in general and your mom's in particular. Sounds like a quick trip but I guess there is nothing to keep you in Arizona after the unveiling.
A woman I worked with was going to make her own vanilla. Our county was dry back then and she was going to have to drive a ways to get vodka. I don't remember if she ever made it. If she did, she didn't offer me any.
There is a difference in party houses and airbnbs, right? I know in Dallas some neighborhoods are trying to get party houses outlawed because of the disturbance. We know someone who had an airbnb here in town, but decided to sell it. We haven't talked to him recently so don't know the reason.
Sister is still in the hospital. The cancer is close to her trachea and that affects her breathing. She is supposed to have a stent in her trachea to help her breathing. To get that done she has to go to a different hospital and apparently, they can't just transfer her. She has to be released from one, go home and then be admitted to the other. This is according to the insurance. Dumb. I think they forget patients are actual people.
Band is a big deal here. My kids are not musical. They both took piano when they were in elementary school. They weren't exactly dedicated to it. It was hard to get them to practice. They both talked about being in band but then decided not to. We didn't push it.
Robin, have a good trip.

Marsha, I forgot which weekend you were going to AZ, we had talked about it quite a while ago. I am not even sure I put it together with the fact that I will be away at the same time. The secretary is still out, she has a particularly bad case of Covid this time, possibly a new strain, where she still has a fever and is very tired. She said it feels like when she had mono as a teenager. The paralegal is there, and she is fine answering the phones. It was particularly busy today, and we were messaging back and forth a bit. Really, she is not a paralegal, she worked for a long time for the UN, as an assistant of some kind. She worked for a short time for a law firm. DH had said it was real estate, but really they did bank closings for mortgages, so she didn't know what she supposedly let DH to believe that she did. We have been teaching her though. It's easier for her to get started on doing deed and transfer docs, and have DS check them over, than for him to do them, or me. I do the closing statements. We don't do a lot of real estate, but lately we have had about one a month from estates that have houses to sell.
I am in Boston. I was checking out the sessions, and the one that I would really want to go to I may not be back in time for, seeing as I want to go to the tea at the library. If we are not there that long, I will track it down and pop in. The woman who is speaking is one who would have gone with us to the tea, but then realized the time wouldn't work out. There might be one other, about dimentia, that would be interesting. Nothing on Guardianships, which is the other thing I might want to know more about. I am not drafting documents so don't need to know anything about that.
Pinky, interesting about making vanilla that way. Not sure I would want to do it, but definitely an interesting thought.
Gareth, glad at least your DH like the ribs, so he must appreciate that DS brings them.
Carol, that sounds crazy about your DS not being able to be transferred. Sorry things seem to be rather complicated for her.
As far as Airbnb's go, NYC does not allow them unless an owner is on site. I don't know of any that are available near where I live. Maybe down a long the south shore so they are near the beach. Every time I have thought about an Airbnb, it hasn't worked out because I never find one with a king size bed, unless it is so expensive I would never go for it. $10,000 for a weekend for us to take our kids is crazy.
We had a decent ride up, thinking it took us much longer than last time, but really, we would have been at the hotel by DS about 1/2 hour before we ended up getting to this hotel in Boston, even though it's only 10 miles further, it's still a city with traffic lights that aren't as well coordinated as they are in Manhattan. If I catch it right, I can go quite far without a light stopping me. That was not happening here. DH got me into these smoothies, so we grabbed them for lunch, but then I was really hungry when we got here. They just don't fill me up.
