Welcome to the Clutter Patrol, formerly CLUTTERBUSTERS thread. We are a daily thread, Monday thru Friday, and we have a combined weekend edition Saturday and Sunday. We welcome new members and are a friendly, helpful and supportive group.
Our purpose is for support and sharing of tips and strategies in dealing with weight and clutter issues in our lives. Many feel that the two are often tied together. So, we will lend a caring ear, and hopefully give and learn tips to help all of us.
We want to remove at least 5 items or spend at least 15 minutes clutter busting today!
Remember, it didn't pile up in one day so it isn't going away in a day either. One organizer says: you don't have to stop everything to get organized, you just have to start somewhere.

Good morning,
Busy day at work yesterday. Still posting novices, but they were dated late in the month. I should get the last batch today. Happy to be somewhat back to normal with those.
I have a full trash tote for tomorrow’s pickup. My old sewing box was too big, I really don’t use it anymore, it was falling apart, now it’s in the trash. That was on the floor in one of my closets and when I purged the clothes, I decided to purge the junk too. Feels so good to open that closet and have it look organized.
Bedding is in the wash now. Will get that back on the bed before I go to work.
I bought a roll of window cling for my bedroom window. I will be able to keep my shades up and won’t worry that anyone can see in. Will make the room nice and bright.
Time for coffee. Waving hi to everyone. Enjoy your day

Good morning all. Stan just left for pedal class. I realized I should pay bills today. So that will be my first chore when I get off here. Plan to empty the dishwasher and pick up the kitchen; then if I have time I want to wash our bedding. But he’ll have to help me re-make the beds. Especially his because we have to put the mattress pad back on and this one goes around the mattress and then zips it inside. His has been off for a long time and needs to go back on.
Our zoom meeting with our financial advisor went much better than my fears for it. He didn’t harp on longevity; only once mentioned Stan maybe needing a nursing home or home health aides and was a great help to us. We had reservations about the Medicaid Protection plan because it is set in stone. He told us paying of the mortgage with investment accounts is not to our advantage because of the tax liability. And he wasn’t sure we should tie up that much of our money in the house. He also said he saw no advantage to putting our investments all into Roth accounts, again due to the huge tax liability. There are so many ramifications you don’t even think about, like it makes what you pay for Medicare go up. And he said we can protect the house from probate by having a Transfer Upon Death Deed filed for us. So I sent the lawyer an email last night telling him what we wanted to do; no trusts of any kind, but new wills, POA’s, and health care directives (or whatever they are all called now). Haven’t heard from him this morning yet. We also asked about a refund of some of the $$ since they aren’t doing the trusts and they won’t have paperwork or fees involved further from those. I’m sure we will pay for his work so far, but hopefully we’ll get a good chunk back. They talk about refunds if things change, so hopefully we will get $$$. And Stan and I both felt such relief after talking to Mike. He also offered to sit in with the lawyer if need be to explain what he knows about us, our situation, etc.
We ran laundry over to DS’s after the meeting and were so glad we went when we did. We passed a motorcycle accident that had happened shortly before we went through. No police or anything there yet. When we came back by there, police and a wrecker were there and traffic was backed up for 5 miles going toward DS’s. It was heavy enough going the other direction but not as bad as the backup on the accident side. We stopped at Target and picked up an order; ran into Trader Joe’s next door and got some fruit and other stuff. Then picked up Chinese on the way home.
Before the meeting, I actually got Stan to clean the kitchen and bathroom floors. He had kind of quit doing any of the chores that he used to do, and there’s no good reason for it. So he did up some dishes and then he vacuumed and scrubbed the kitchen and bathrooms. Hopefully today he’ll vacuum the living room and bedroom. His back isn’t bothering him because he had the 3 acupuncture appts. Insurance still doesn’t seem to be processing those.
Joy, so nice that you are busy at work. Beats the alternative as you so well know. Hope the boss is being quiet or kind of is just not there! Do you hear from any of the gals who have left that you really liked?
Martha, I should make Stan some chocolate chip cookies. They are his favorite. Are you more of a night owl to start with? I find it so hard to get moving in the morning. I’m more productive later in the day.
Dottie, so sorry about Bill’s eye issues and not using his C-Pap. Wish Stan would use his but right now he’s sleeping pretty well so I’m not going to suggest it. Hopefully Bill’s spots will heal quickly and not bother him. Try to get a nap later today.
Can you believe it’s already May? Can’t believe Kira’s wedding is just over 3 mo. away. We’ll have 2 married granddaughters. This afternoon is to be sunny but rain again tomorrow. Hoping to go to the greenhouse/truck farm we love and pick up 4 hanging baskets and maybe talk to the owner about what we should do on the back deck. Had 2 planters inside the wood screen boxes but they were so dry and didn’t do well there. I’m guessing she can help me or give some direction anyway. Their hanging baskets aren’t cheap (like $35 each); but they are gorgeous, full, and last clear into October. And that’s just us watering them but not feeding them at all like I should!
Have a good day all. Will check in tonight.

Joyce, it sounds like you are back in the decluttering mode. It does feel good to open a closet and drawer and see it neat and tidy.
Ruth, it sounds like a good visit with your financial advisor. I thought that there could be a tax liability if you used investments to pay down your mortgage. That is what happened to us when we bought our new house. We wanted to buy and then sell so since it was a cash deal we used a home equity line of credit and short term savings for ¾ of the amount but had to take the rest from our investments. Even though we put the money back in the account once we sold our old house we had a big tax bill that year from the capital gains on the investments. We talked to 2 lawyers about a trust, one is my brother-in-law and the other is the lawyer we used for our wills/POAs. They both said a trust wasn’t necessary as long as we had all the titles to our houses/cars in both names. They both also recommended in checking the beneficiaries for any items requiring a beneficiary. We had a few of those that needed updating, this was in 2016 when we updated our wills. Glad that Stan is able to help with the housework again.
I had my appointment with my ophthalmologist. My pressure is doing great and for now I don’t have to use any drops for my glaucoma. When I had the cataracts removed she put a stent in each eye to help with the pressure, so glad that it is working. My eyes are very dry so she ordered one prescription for dry eyes and have to use that for 2 weeks (14 days) and then just an over the counter eye drop. I have to go back in June for a recheck. Bill is doing fine from the spots that were removed. He slept great last night and was able to use his C-Pap. I'm sure Monday night was rough because he had just had the spots removed.
