Thanks for the start, Chele. Happy Star Wars day to everyone. Cherokee purple is a big favorite here, along with California Wonder (we grew 3 different ones for the sale). I think I've grown the Purple Beauty and it was both tasty and colorful. Wonder what's up with all the new carwashes? I think the rise in gas prices here is because they can, since it's starting into tourist season. Enjoy Cinco de Mayo tomorrow. There is a show we watched on HBO called The Righteous Gemstones starring John Goodman where they opened a church in an abandoned mall department store, so maybe it's more common than we know. Yes, it was strange lifting just right-armed, although I have managed to build up a good bit of right arm strength but the dexterity isn't the same as the left. I did a kettlebell workout this morning and was careful, but got a little more work out of the left. Did your rain move out? Did you go to YS?
Kathy, you won two trips in the same year? Where was the other trip to? I should have know it would be a U2 concert. That concert sounds like quite an undertaking. Any idea how many radio stations gave away those tickets? I'm guessing there were people from all over the country. That coat has some special memories, even if it was off the clearance rack at Sears. No wonder you haven't gotten rid of it. When I was at a conference at Disney in 2007, you had a cold snap and I ended up having to buy a Disney-logo coat and then it got too big when I lost weight the next year. Fortunately, I was able to gift it to a friend who was at the same conference with me and took her kids there every year, so she appreciated it. Yes, it's very unfortunate that citizens here have no way to get an initiative on the ballot. They claim it's unnecessary because they listen to citizens who come to the legislature. I guess that's why we have so many new gun control laws passed, since the Covenant School parents have been camped in legislative sessions since the shootings (hint: they don't listen then either).
I imagine Cinco de Mayo is a lot bigger there than St. Pat's, Linda. Guess you'll be staying off the roads tomorrow. How was the chicken tortilla salad? Staying away from public places might be a good idea for you, even with the latest vaxx. Getting Covid now is just about as common as the flu or a cold.
I was really tired yesterday. It was a Friday and was rainy/cloudy, so that was what I blamed it on. Then after dinner it hit me that I had 6 tubes of blood sucked out of me on Thursday morning. I have more energy today. So far I have made oats for Arya, granola and roasted potatoes for me, and have beans cooking for Dale's minestrone, which I'll put together next. I made a pot of yogurt after dinner last night and for the first time ever, it didn't thicken up. I put another pouch of starter in and set it to be finished after dinner tonight. If it still hasn't thickened, maybe I got a bad batch of starter. In that case, I guess I'll either drink it in smoothies or try to thicken it up with tapioca starch or xanthan gum.

May the Fourth be with youā¦
Wow, Karen, lot of blood for tests! No wonder you were tired. If I had to cook as much as you do ahead or my own version of yogurt and bread we would starve.
i am not allowed supplements now until I get home from surgery. But wheat Chex and some other cereal has some iron and some added to it so with that or eggs and a small tangerine for vitamin c to absorb it, I can keep the iron up.
I still have a fitted Logan green coat with the capelet from Austria that I got by going to an annual German fair in the Catskills and was made to measure for me in Austria! That cloth, typical of Southern Germany and Austria must be the longest lasting cloth in the planet. The sleeves are a bit tight, but I still have it. Sort of dressy winter coat. It does ocassionally get cold here.
Thai was good yesterday, but early. The mango and sticky rice at six did not keep me going last night. I was awake until I ate some shredded wheat and fruit around 12:30 and finally dropped off around one after letting Minni out. Both of us slept late until 9:30!
no plans here.

OMG. What a cute sombreroād, guitar strumming basset!
Karen, I would be tired as well with all that blood missing. I hope you are able to salvage the yogurt. Iggy made a batch and the labne is still straining.
Linda, spinach with lemon is also a good iron supplement. 5 minute recipe: Spinach with Garlic and Lemon Ingredients 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil or butter 1 clove garlic minced 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1/2 of a lemon) 5 oz. baby spinach (about 3 cups packed) kosher salt to taste black pepper to taste Instructions Heat the oil (1 tablespoon) over medium-high heat in a large skillet (preferably non-stick). Add the minced clove of garlic; sautƩ for one minute or until fragrant. Add the lemon juice and the spinach. SautƩ for 3-4 minutes, or until greens are wilted (but not browned). Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
Kathy, I knew it had to be U2. If you go back to Ireland you might need that coat.
Itās been cloudy all day but no rain. Iggy is cutting the grass up front, since he didnāt get to it the other day. I am doing a load of laundry. We went to YS this morning and it was warm for us at the beginning of May, 66Ā° at 7:30 am. We got some more arugula but the ākidsā said this will probably be the last lot as it has started to bolt. We also got more salad turnips and radishes from them. The other farmer had green onions and Iggy bought a couple more basil plants. I had a nice green salad for lunch and Iggy went out for Indian. My BP has come down to within the framework the doc wants and I think it's because I am not eating out as much. Lots of salt in restaurant food. I have always preferred eating at home most of the time, so this is my excuse. Iāve been eating a lot more greens, because Iggy is not a big salad person. Iggy knows I am not offended if he wants to eat out and I get to eat my salad.

Karen, another cute avatar! The second trip was to Ireland for the Guinness 250th anniversary celebration. That included a concert with several acts. The headliner was Tom Jones! The theater in Boston seated about 900 people, but I'm not sure how many radio stations were involved. I'm sure there were a lot of tickets given out in local promotions in Boston. There were five bus loads of concert winners, so a few hundred of us and yes, people were from all over. Believe it or not, I have seen many other acts besides U2. š For a long time, the act I'd seen the most was Jimmy Buffett.
I still have the coat since I haven't needed to replace it due to our warm winters. I really should get a decent one, but just haven't had the need. No wonder you're tired with that much blood drawn! Hope you can rest up today. That's strange on the yogurt not thickening. Hope you find a way to use it. I saw that about the Covenant School parents. I think your legislature is even more extreme than ours, but at least we do have the capability for ballot initiatives.
Chele, I've only needed a light jacket in Ireland, but haven't been there in the winter. They do get a lot of light rain, so a rain jacket comes in handy. That's great that your BP has come down. I don't know why restaurant food has to be so salty. There are some places I avoid because it's just way too much salt. We were at 70Ā° this morning. We're getting some thunder and rain right now, but nothing severe. Good thing since my yard got the annual chinch bug treatment yesterday and it works better when it's watered in. Are chinch bugs a thing where you are or is just one of the lovely things about living in Florida?
Linda, glad you were able to sleep in. That coat sounds nice. They do add a lot of vitamins to most cereal. I'm not sure what the difference is in getting them that way or with a supplement, but probably the amounts aren't as high.

The rain started again just as Iggy finished mowing. He said he saw the black clouds coming so he went really fast.
Kathy, we donāt have chinch bugs but we get lawn grubs. When I traveled to England and Scotland I brought a hooded rain jacket and I needed it.

Boy, I traveled with my Nautical king rain jacket with hood and zip out liner in Europe, NY and Canada. Needed it in early spring and fall. Years ago in Scotland in Southern part, not highlands, I bought a sweater and kilt to wear in June. Hardy souls there. No wonder the knitting industry prospers.
that is such a cute dog picture!
thanks for the spinach recipe.
today's late breakfast was a tangerine and leftover cut up roasted asparagus, quartered hard boiled egg, two crumbled slices of well cooked bacon, a bit of Gorgonzola crumbled over it, and drizzle of Italian dressingā¦basically a recipe I saw on FB, but I added the cheese for DH who lost most of his taste from antibiotic for sinus infection years ago.
Did not plan on spending half a day getting DH's I pad, phone and laptop email to work, butā¦. Success on two, but Mac eludes me right now. Conflicting outgoing servers? Cox cable our internet, phone and tv provider decided to drop email, so it had to migrate to Yahoo. Ok, worked it out eventually ā¦same email address even though not really Cox.net. Headacheā¦and I think I need to put back the apple one for apple stuff. Arggg. He can just click on a desktop link I made for him and do the online mail on his computer. Had to walk him through it.
one good thing, couple years ago Cox dropped letting us have more than one email and the extras stopped working except they received from people who thought they were contacting. It was DH's email for all his language apps and stuff. Iwas able to migrate it and make it work again!
lost interest in cleaning out a cabinet part or detrimming the Easter tree. Just paid couple bills (hoping to get all done ahead before surgery as DH has trouble writing.), mailed cards and stuff, and picked up reserved books at library. I am getting a pile to read when I can do little else. They are all authors recommended but new to me.
have a good evening.

Linda, sorry you had a bad night. I hope you have a nice relaxing day.
Iggy and I had a nice Cinco de Mayo lunch. The margarita was good and not too strong. Iggy and I shared one.The shrimp tacos were great and letās not forget the guacamole.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! š®š¹šøš
Linda, that's a good picture. It's amazing how those older rain jackets lasted. Doesn't happen today. Your breakfast sounds simple and not too difficult to prepare. What a mess on having to deal with the email change. Too bad they couldn't have left things alone. Did you get a good start on the tree de- and re-trimming? Getting new reading materials, especially from new authors, should keep you busy while you're recovering. Sorry about the sleepless night.
Mmmm...margarita, Chele! Haven't had one in years. The tacos sound tasty, and you can never go wrong with a good guac. There was a hole-in-the-wall Mexican place where we used to live that made the absolute best. I don't know how they did it (and probably don't want to know), but there were times I would get that as a takeout item and use it on everything. Are you expecting rain like we are? We had sun this morning but it's starting to cloud up. Congrats on the responding BP. How's your sciatica pain level doing?
Kathy, you won a trip to Ireland as well? That sounds like a lot of fun. I know you've been since, but was this your first trip there? Given where you live, I can understand how you saw a lot of Jimmy Buffett. I don't think chinch bugs are a thing here. I wonder if they just love your heat and humidity. Doesn't sound good if they are so prolific that you need to get a lawn treatment to deter them.
I need to renew my drivers license and was hoping to get a REAL ID this time. I have been able to locate all the necessary documentation except our original marriage license. I have a couple of copies, but supposedly the feds require the original. We got married in TX, so it's not like I can stop at the local courthouse on my way to DMV. I'm taking the copy and also have both my previous and current social security card, along with a letter from Social Security verifying that I applied for a replacement card in 1988, which is when we got married. A year from now if I want to fly anywhere, I will need the REAL ID, so I would like to have it just in case. I have an appointment at DMV on Tuesday, so I have until then to figure out if I want to try to present this or cancel the appointment and see how long it takes to get a duplicate marriage license from TX. Or I could say the heck with it and get a regular drivers license. Other than that, I baked bread and have workout clothes in the dryer. I also ran this morning and stayed upright the entire time. It was on asphalt so nothing but my feet to trip over.

Linda, sorry you had a bad night and hope tonight is better. Chele, sounds like a great lunch. Gotta have the guacamole! I got a pack of those single serving containers of guacamole at the grocery store, so will have one of those today with a homemade burrito. Not as good as fresh, but they're not bad. Karen, I went to Ireland in the early 90s with my parents and two of my aunts and uncles. That was a great trip and we went to England, Scotland and Wales too. In 2001, my parents won a trip to Ireland, but couldn't go so I went with DS and DBIL. They allowed us to add a 3rd person for $250 which was a really insane deal for a week at a luxury hotel, tours, meals, etc. We did have to pay for the 3rd flight, but we just split that 3 ways. Then we won the two trips in 2009. Amazing luck for sure! My favorite Jimmy show was one he did outdoors in Melbourne. It was just him on acoustic guitar and his harmonic player. The first time I saw him was in Houston, but the others were in Florida. The chinch bugs are nasty little critters and they will eat up a lawn. It shows up as brown patches and just spreads. I have to get the REAL ID when I renew next year. I think they would take your documents. I'm sure a lot of people have the same issue. What a pain though! I got the TSA pre-check before our Vegas trip and was thinking it's too bad they couldn't combine that with getting the REAL ID since it's a more exhaustive background check. Glad you had an uneventful run and stayed upright!
Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone!

Got our REAL ID a few years ago, and it is a pain the renew, but good to have. We have had The Global thing /TSA thing for a long time, for which you go to USA customsā¦get fingerprinted etc. but you skips lines for passports, just do a machine and go on your way? Must be due to expire.
phone..bbl
Remember my nephew's custody problems with the witch who was nice because she wanted another baby, then tried to drive him away and moved to the other end of the state? He has had his son three weekends a month, driving to get him! Well, he just got that changed to a whole week every other week. That and the witch's lawyer was so obnoxious the judge cleared the room and read her the riot act! Good grief.
Chele, glad you had a nice dinner.
Kathy, wow another great trip. I always wanted to go to Ireland but never made it.
Karen, sounds like your injuries are getting better.
Sorta sleepy., but as Minni kept wanting to go to the gate hoping for a real walk, I remembered the bottom foot of the woodwork around the side garage door has to get pain or have the wood die in the summer sun by the time the painter comes in mid Augustā¦got that done, fairly easily and quick.
nice cloudy day with temps in 80s and now windy. We had to put down the two big umbrellas shading the flowers from noon sun, as uv index is getting quite high again.
We put away all the Easter eggs from the big tree, put the unbreakable stuff at too in case I drop it ; then as the day went on, whenever I was up, I added more. It us pretty much done: birds, butterflies and flowers for the summer.
Felt bad for Minni as DH fell picking up pooh couple weeks ago and we had to get her used to using the yard until after surgery when I am up to hobbling along a bit and doing the picking up part. So since knee decided it was a good day, she got a decent walk and lots of sniffing. She was so happy.
Steak frit for supperā¦trying to keep that iron up.
