How do you handle temptation in the house and away from home?

The biggest way I handle temptation at home is not bringing trigger food in the house, although late Saturday afternoon we have adult beverages and snacks, and the snacks are getting out of hand. Going to be working on that. Don't get out much socially so few temptations there, but if I'm someplace where there is food, I talk to myself to keep myself from overeating. I do go out to breakfast with a friend on a regular basis and I'm managing that pretty well and every few months I might splurge on a more caloric item. I'm able to walk through the bakery part of the grocery store each week and not buy goodies. Again, I talk to myself and tell myself the items are too much to take home and eat and I already know what sugar/fat filled carbs taste like.

Temptation sometimes wins and sometimes willpower does. It kind of depends on what frame of mind I'm in and what might lurk in the house that is tempting. And when out...it depends again but also on the group, the food, etc.

Home environment is pretty "clean". We have some chocolate around always. I will have a couple of squares most days. Not at the same time. When I eat our there are always healthy options. I tend to go for a healthier main, but indulge in a glass of wine (or two) and dessert.

It's funny how my brain works. I can avoid most temptation most of the time - mornings are especially easy, after dinner is super hard. The rest of time varies but mostly if I don't touch it, I don't crave it. My SO always has chocolate and ice cream in the freezer downstairs. I don't even think about it most of the time, but when I want it, it is very hard to say 'no'. Keeping it out of the house works to a point. There are times when I will eat baking chocolate, if I really want chocolate.
I am pretty good away from home and when I'm busy. I rarely crave things or give in to temptation then. I think that's why after dinner is hard. I'm tired, I'm not involved in other things and the stuff I do tends to make me want to snack.
One thing I've learned: reading cards at such times doesn't work for me. What works is reading cards regularly enough that my brain produces the right answer by itself.

The only way for me to handle temptation in the house is to keep healthy treats handy and unhealthy treats out. I can’t have temptation in the home and not touch it. As for out of the house, restaurants are ok because I can order well and take half home. Social activities like book club are the hardest because it’s a free for all graze. I’m hit or miss there depending on my mood.
