Good morning. 53, cloudy, expecting rain around the time I leave for work; 10 am, high of 62.
Robin, I agree, about DD getting married. Just silly, at this point anyway. But her fiancé is adamant about marriage. I am really looking forward to Friday off, with us celebrating Mother's Day Saturday, and tomorrow the banquet, that takes time away from what I can be doing here.
Gareth, you are right, soon this will just be a memory. I do get paid for staying the last day, over my normal time that I work, but those couple hours are more precious to me at this point, being gone from there. Congrats to your DS, as that is an amazing accomplishment!
Pinky, how were your thunderstorms? Hope they fizzled out! I wish I was done with work in two weeks! We have till the end of the school day on June 7th. Then we will start back for next year early this year, because of the NFL draft being in GB next April, so it will be a bit shorter vacation time. That won't bother me, as by August I am ready to go back.
Anngie, Carol described everything about the school system perfectly. Monitors are the one position that is hard to fill, as most young people do not want part time, and a lot of senior citizens just can't keep up with the kids or have the thick skin to do it. Overall, I do have to say, school systems are suffering from employee shortages. Just a fact in today's world. (I am speaking about middle schoolers, which is a tough age group, with all the kids are going through)
Carol, I know exactly what you mean about this time of the school year and looking forward to summer vacation. But too, with that I am seeing how far the 6th graders have come, and that makes me happy. This year's group I seem to have a closer friendship with than the ones from last year. (I don't know if it is really a friendship, but I don't know what else to call it.) I am glad you have a date for the service of your DS.
Our immediate supervisor sent out an email that the district office wants all para's and monitors to get some training in, with scheduling it next Monday at 4:45. I replied that I had that training already and am not able to go to it. That is the first time I have turned something down pertaining to my job, but I refuse to stop whatever I am doing, with all that is going on here, to run into town for a couple hours for something I have already done. I see after she received my email, she went to the woman that runs the security desk and she backed me up about the training already done, so it sounds like it will be canceled, for our group.

Running late today, and tomorrow I have to get into the city early.
Karen, I have no idea what the training is about, and I agree that the time is not a good one, but there are certain types of training that a company's insurance, which would include a school district, requires everyone to take once a year.
Carol, it is good that the funeral will be on a Saturday so that your DD & DS will be able to come.

Thunder and lightening last night about 8:30 and boy did the wind blow-----I guess I should rephrase that and say the wind blew up a storm. No damage here but it was rather nasty for about 10 minutes. One mile west of here I guess a tree fell on a power line and knocked out power for a few miles but we never lost power thankfully. We did receive 7 to 8 tenths more of rain so we are getting close to 4 inches in the last 10 days so I don't think we are too dry now----LOL!! Thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow afternoon again and then it is supposed to be nice so they say. It was 52 degrees when we got up this morning and only going to 58 today with high winds.
I guess this weather is better than out in the Black Hills where they are getting a snow storm---unbelievable right??? They showed pictures of Terry Peak Ski Resort on the news this morning and it didn't look nice at all with the wind blowing all the snow around. Terry Peak is just several miles from where we stayed last summer when we took our family out there. Of course that was July. Or better than the tornados they showed on CBS in Oklahoma last night.
Speaking of CBS, did anyone watch this morning and see that Colm Toibin was interviewed. He is the author that wrote Brooklyn some years ago and has now written a sequel to it called Long Island??? It just came out today. I did not read Brooklyn but I am intrigued. I think I had Brooklyn on a too read list but never got to it. Has anyone else read it----I think of Robin right away as this is her area. I checked Amazon and it seems that he has written a lot of books and I don't think I have read any of his.
Anngie---Yes we are about done calving and it has really slowed down. DS#1 said Sunday there were only about 12 left to calve. This wet weather has made it harder to deal with but all is good.
Carol---So nice your DD and DS are able to come and that your DSis who had the knee replacement has her son to bring her.
Karen---We had thunderstorms as I am sure you seen above but not a problem here. Have you made your decision about the trip with Tony?
Hi Robin, Gareth and Marsha!
I have the itch to get to a greenhouse today and get some flowers but I also should do some farm book work so I am hoping to do both.

Karen, sounds like by the end of the school year you're getting really burned out and by time school starts again you're more than ready to go again. Is the fiance pushing for a wedding date?
Robin, how's the secretary? Is she back to work?
Pinky, my DBIL died years before his DS. My DSIS lives alone though her surviving DS lives close by. I haven't read anything by that author.
LOTS of thunder and rain overnight. There must've been some wind too since I've heard of downed trees around. None that I can see from here though maybe on our walk I will. I know there was a lot of storm damage in the state overnight.

Back from AZ. That was a quick trip. It was good though. I saw my brother and my cousins so that was nice, and I spent time with Phx. My cousin who spends most of her time in Boulder made us dinner on Saturday night so we all were able to get together and just visit. The unveiling had more people than I think were necessary and I didn't know at least half of them but it was nice, I thought the Rabbi did a good job. I did use the hotel gym on Sunday morning - I got on the treadmill. I don't think I've ever used a hotel gym before so I was proud of myself for that. Eating was as expected but now that I am home I need to focus and lose some weight.
Carol – I am so sorry to hear about your sister. That was so quick.
Robin – If you want any kind of satisfaction about the accident at the hotel, try a letter to the franchisor (Hilton or whoever) instead of the hotel location. In fact, a letter on dh’s legal stationary will get their attention. Hopefully your correspondence with them now will take care of matters. Sounds like a fun trip other than that.
Karen – congrats to dd on solo and ensemble!

We finally turned on the AC and had the guy come out to check it. It has been so humid here and uncomfortable. Just doing any little thing around the house would make me sweat. We were supposed to have rain last night but didn't. I think there were bad storms in northern Oklahoma. Gareth, I guess that was the storm you got.
Karen, having a meeting at 4:45 is ridiculous. Glad you got out of it. Towards the end of the school years, the sub situation would get so bad that they were pulling teachers into classrooms during their conference periods. Teachers complained because they are supposed to have a conference period every day so they started pulling aides. That didn't last long because it was against the rules. The only way they could put us in a classroom all day was to pay us as subs not aides. As I've said before, I am so glad I am out of all that.
Marsha, welcome back. I'm sure the unveiling was nice.
We are going up on Friday and will come back on Sunday. I don't know if my niece and nephew will start going through my sister's house or will wait a while. I'm willing to help with that. DDIL can't come and DSIL and DGS decided to stay home. They would have to take DGS out of school plus he has his last soccer game. He had never even met my sister and really wouldn't understand what was going on at the funeral.
I read Brooklyn several years ago and liked it. It was made into a movie that was well received. The actress who played the main character (can't think of her or the actress's name)was nominated for an Oscar.

Marsha, I got a response right away when I posted on Twitter, where I put a picture of my bruised arm also. It was from the main Hilton, and I have had some emails back and forth, but they say that it should come from the individual hotel. The thing about all hotels is that they are individually owned, so it's really like McDonald's, they are franchised and are just paying to use the name. They do have to be up to certain standards, but they are still privately owned. However, I think that if the Hilton person just said that they were going to add whatever number of points to our Hilton Honors account, that would have been fine, and the end of it. I am glad your short trip ended up being a good one. Did you Phx and RV ever end up deciding on someplace to go? I don't know if I missed that.
Carol, how far away from you did your DS live? Your niece and nephew may not want to do anything this quickly, but they may want your help in the future if you can manage it.
Pinky, now I want to read those books. I only had 1 hold left, so put Long Island on hold, but then I realized they are a series, so should really delete that and read Brooklyn first. They sound good.
Gareth, the secretary is back. She had an unusually bad case of Covid this time, but she came back on Thursday.

Karen, I’m glad for your sake the year is just about over. Working and moving is a lot of work. We did it three times. At least in the final stage you’ll have movers. That back breaking work too.
Carol, I’m glad a date has been set and is on a weekend. Did you have anything, though, going on for Mothers Day? That can easily be delayed.
Pinky, it just occurred to me, are your DSs or DH at each and every birth? Or more often than not you wake up and there they are!? (I know you’re laughing) I’ll check out those books.
Marsha, glad it all went well. It must have been nice to sit with DB and cousins and just talk the hours away. Who knows when that would happen again. Were the flights OK?
Leaving soon to look for a gas grill. Anyone have a favorite?

Robin - like I said, I worked for a company that owned hotels back when I was a paralegal so I am familiar with the structure, and I managed the accident reports from all of our properties, but when something came to us through a channel other than the property itself - from the franchisor - it got extra attention because it damages that franchise reputation if it is not managed properly. I'm glad you are getting a response. If they are not giving you what you want, tell them what will satisfy you in terms of compensation. We decided on Missoula Montana. We were looking at Sonoma CA and Puerto Rico, and Sonoma was too hard for me to get to for just a weekend, likewise Puerto Rico was going to be a 13 hour flight for Phx. Then we thought about Nashville but since we were stuck with August we eliminated the entire southern U.S. so we looked at the "flyover states" and someone threw out Montana and I had my computer open so I googled "girls' weekend in Montana" and it came up with Missoula with a list of things to do including a winery, floating on the river, hiking trails, shopping in a quaint downtown, a ghost town. What more could we want for a weekend? Since the objective is primarily just to get together but also to have things to do it will work out fine. I think the destination itself is not as important. It's not like we're saying "let's go see the Arch in St. Louis and by the way we can get together and have fun. We're saying "let's find somewhere to go that we can all get together".

Marsha, I did forget about that. But, I posted on the Hilton Twitter page, which got the reaction. I don't think the hotel management would have ever contacted me on their own, although I am waiting for DH to get his, "How did you like the Hilton Boston Park Plaza survey".
