Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

The water was chilly at water aerobics but I warmed up quickly. Someone flew a drone overhead and took a video of our class which was then posted on our community FB page. I haven't figured out how to share it, but it turned out pretty well. The drone was high enough overhead that you can't see much, but it was like a Busby Berkeley overhead shot of us moving in a circle with every other person floating on their back. When I got back DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, happy to have a nice breeze for a lot of it. When we got back I called the Shark people again to find out what was happening with our robot replacement. After 30 minutes of mostly being on hold they sent me a shipping label to return the old one. Then they will send the replacement. I don't know why this didn't happen when I called on the 6th. After that, lunch and couch time. I snoozed a bit since I had slept so poorly. I made broccoli soup for dinner and we had grilled pastrami and swiss cheese sandwiches with it. After dinner I watched a Hallmark movie, finished the Gators ornament and started on a tissue box cover. I headed up to bath and bed around 11 and had no trouble falling asleep.
It's another sunny day, a little warmer in the upper 70's already. We're going to check out an estate sale in the neighborhood before we walk. The sale runs today through Saturday. There's been a helicopter hovering over the power lines the last few days and they are back again today.
Vicki- Woohoo for being down 2.8#! WTG line dancing and swimming.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF, not going crazy with fair food. Yay for having fun with your sibs and finding some yarn, beautiful weather. Safe travels home. Blue is still MIA.
Carole- Glad being busy at work so that the time passes quickly. Sorry the girls are *^tchy already. WTG supporting the fundraiser by eating Culver's! Annie is doing well. Her appetite is good and I find her waiting at the top of the stairs if I am late with her dinner.
Cindy- Sorry you did too much yesterday morning, hope you are recovered today.
Cathy- Glad you had fun with Rosalie. WTG writing the review. Hope you catch the gecko and get caught up on your reading/reviewing. Thanks for explaining the process.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for a good choir rehearsal, sorry you tossed and turned last night. Hope you sleep better tonight.

Hi girls. On the way to the Y I realized my back, was hurting. I did my water class, but wasn’t able to swim afterwards. I knew I would never be able to do silver sneakers so I walked about 10 minutes instead. I did some errands and then met the silver sneakers group to celebrate one members 90th birthday. She was so excited! I had ham/bean soup and a salad. I had only eaten there once but remembered they have REALLY good pie. I was able to refrain knowing we’re celebrating Jack on Sunday! Besides, I think my activity will slow down until my back feels better.
Murphy: Sorry you didn’t sleep well. Were you thinking about CR tonight?
Amy: Neat about the drone!
Carole: Glad work is going fast! Some people are just not happy unless they are complaining!
Jan: I’m glad you had such a good time with your sibs. It’s sad the time passed so quickly!
Cindy: Hugs. Hope you are feeling better. What about DS?
Cathy: A gecko!

Got my errands done this morning. It seems like the devil is conspiring to keep me from CR though. I was prepared to go to night at 7:00. Carolyn called me about 2:00 and had called an ambulance because Bud had fallen and his leg was hurting very bad so she was worried that he might have broken something. She just called me and they have finally taken him for x-rays. She doesn't know if they will keep him or send him home. But if they keep him she needs me to go to their house and gather up his phone, her Kindle, night clothes and such so I'm kind of trapped here. Hopefully she will hear something soon. Did I tell you that I got a referral to a counselor? So at least I have that resource. It has been a stressful day but I'm happy to say that there have been no thoughts of drinking. I'm grateful for that! Murphy

Hi all. Got home around 3:30 after dropping DB off at the bus in GB. We had a good time together. Did a fish fry for breakfast this morning and then got packed and cleaned up to get out of there. I dropped my craft fair booth payment at the library on our way out of town. DH is making pork chops, potatoes and asparagus for dinner and then I will probably be early to bed. Had a lot of rain on the way home and it's still off and on here. Actually nice, and everything needed it. Tomorrow will be some shopping and cleaning up. No big news, but will be back to regular routine tomorrow and may even try to go get in the pool at the Y. Have a great evening. Jan
Murphy Hope you got to CR and at least could make some decisions afterwards. Hope you sleep tonight.
Amy GL with your Shark and getting the new Vac. My DB was vacuuming on the porch this morning before we left and he is so GOOD, moved all the furniture, got all the attachments out. I'm a slap dash and go. DS said he and his friend were going to go to the big Gator statue on campus and just take pictures but when they got there it was summer term graduation and there was a line of students waiting to get their photos there. Very sad face about Blue.
Cindy How did today go, who's feeling better?
Cathy Well, a gecko is a different one. DH said the cats brought him a couple chipmunks over the week, but at least not in the house. Glad you enjoy most of the books you need/want to read. Sorry the pants weren't a success, but will you mend them up?
GG Good idea to not overdo. Such discipline to not eat the yummy stuff because you are waiting for Jack's birthday. Glad you had fun at the birthday celebration tho.
Carole Sorry the "S**t" is already happening at work. Not your circus. Glad the days are going fast at least. Do you ever think of doing something in the health field?
Waving hi. Almost dinnertime. See you tomorrow.

Hi All!
When I got up this morning to feed Ainsley, I realized that I had a dental appointment. Thought about caancelling it but decided to go since I had already cancelled the last one. I keep thinking I need to find a new dental place but I really like the dentist, hygienist and office staff. They are just expensive! The dentist has all the latest equipment, a lab so if you need a crown it can be made same day, the dentist sends her staff for updated training, when I knocked out my teeth and called her at night, she called me back and made arrangements to see me before office hours. So I've complained enough and know I won't change. I have very clean teeth.
Murphy, I saw this quote and thought of you. "You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." Jon Kabat-Zinn I hope that you were able to go to CR. I also hope that Bud is doing okay and was able to come home. I'm very glad the stress has not brought thoughts of drinking. Glad you got a referral to a counselor. When do you plan to call and make an appointment? Sorry if it seems I pushing but I am pushing you to be proactive. Hope you sleep well tonight.
Amy, my first thought was a drone?? But then I continued to reading and sounds like a fun posting for your neighborhood FB. I hope you get your robot soon. Frustrating they didn't care of all on the 6th. Did you get any good buys at the Estate Sale. Any reason that you've heard about why the helicopter is circling. I hope Blue shows up soon!
Carole, i hope things settle down at work. At least the days are going by quickly. Sounds like you did your part in the fundraiser!
Vicki, woot for being down! I hope you heard from Jack today. What kind of birthday celebration is planned for Jack's birthday? Glad you are listening to your body.
Cathy, your story about the gecko made me think about when Ainsley found a baby snake by the stairway, DS was opening the front door to take it outside and when he opened the door a gecko walked in. So he had to capture it and get that outside. We don't see many around. Thanks for the list of books! I'm always looking for new authors. Sounds like you and Rosalie have a great time together.
Jan, glad you had such a wonderful time with your brother and sister. Glad you enjoyed the fish fry for breakfast, not sure I could handle that. Wish we would get rain. Great dinner!
I'm doing much better, hence keeping the dentist appointment. DS is getting better, probably needs another day or two of rest. He is still doing stuff for his friend so he isn't getting as much rest as I was getting.
The next few days are suppose to be hundred plus days. Basically we are being told to stay indoors. Plants are just burning up, as well as the grass.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day!
Hugs, Cindy
