Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Didn't make it to CR! Carolyn didn't call back until 7:30 and said they were coming home. Nothing broken. Bud was in a lot of pain and the doctor said he was willing to admit him but there were no beds available so he would have been stuck in the ER till one because available. So they elected to come home.
Cindy - I am going to call the therapist after 9/1 because that is when my insurance switches over. I didn't want to have to deal with my current insurance for 2 weeks and then switch to another. That is feeling like it's going to be a better fit for me anyway but I'll try again next week to get to CR!
I'm going to the funeral for DBIL's mother this afternoon. It's about an hour away and I'll be headed back to Knoxville right at the time for heaviest traffic on a Friday afternoon so I think I'll search for an alternate way home. DB and DSIL aren't going because DB isn't doing very well. He had a couple of months where he was doing so well but now he is battling the weakness and anxiety again. Breaks my heart. Hope everyone has a pleasant day. Murphy

DH & I took the golf cart to the estate sale yesterday morning. I didn't see anything I had to have, but may go back tomorrow when stuff is discounted and take a look at the Christmas stuff again. We went on to the nature trail to walk. I'm glad we went to the sale first as I was a sweaty mess after walking. When we got home I picked green beans and tomatoes, trimmed the dead stuff out of the tomatoes, weeded and watered. I also picked 4 little ears of corn. I'm not sure why they're so small, but it did better than last year. After lunch I had some couch time then blanched and froze 4 quarts of green beans. We had hamburger patties for dinner, with the corn and cucumber salad. The corn was yummy. After dinner I watched a Netflix movie, A Family Affair with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron, which I enjoyed. I had a little trouble falling asleep, read some more, then slept well.
It's overcast this morning, in the low 70's. Looking forward to the farmers market as the plant guy said he was going to discount his summer stock to make room for the fall stuff.
Vicki- Hope your back is better today. It's nice that the Silver Sneakers class honored the 90-year-old.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Sorry about Bud, hope his pain is better. I'm glad you got the referral to a counselor, hope it works out with CR next week. So glad you didn't think about drinking with all the stress. Hope the traffic isn't too bad for the funeral. So sorry to hear DB is not doing well.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF. Yay for getting rain, we need it, maybe tomorrow. Also yay for DH doing a good job vacuuming the porch. Sorry DS couldn't get a pic with the Gator statue.
Cindy- Sorry about the forgotten dental appointment, yay for clean teeth. Glad you are feeling better and DS is at least feeling well enough to do some work. Take it easy in that extreme heat! The copter is flying again today, still don't know why.
Cathy- Yay for leftovers!

M-W Word of the Day
encumber verb | in-KUM-ber What It Means Someone or something that is encumbered is burdened or weighed down (as in “tourists encumbered by heavy luggage”) or hindered (as in “negotiations encumbered by a lack of trust”). // The children found it difficult to climb down the river's steep embankment, encumbered as they were by inner tubes and towels.

September 2 Good morning all. Went down the rabbit hole last night, guess I don't need the stress or ?? to drink too much, just being over tired and DH having chilled wine in the fridge. I was past the point of thinking about how today would feel, tired is not a good place for me to make good choices. Guess I will focus on the one good choice I made for the day which was after dropping DB I needed a potty break before driving the rest of the way home. Stopped at the McDonald's before getting back on the freeway. I actually went to the counter and was going to get some CC cookies or even maybe a cheeseburger to "make it home" even tho I probably wasn't really hungry. I guess it's a good thing they now always want you to use the computer order board as no one ever came to the counter to help me. I said I wasn't that desperate and just left. Ate my 1/2 quest in the car. I know that sugar craving tho was part of the reason it was so easy to drink the wine when I got home. I could have just taken a nap and let it pass, but DH was already getting dinner things ready and I knew I would sleep too long. It's now history and I have today to change course. It's not even like I have a craving or want the actual drink, it's just here and I don't say no. Laziness. I have errands to run today, groceries, going to pick up some little hangers a women found for me from when I went to the estate sale last week. They are the little barbie clothes size, I bought a few they had at the sale and she knew she had a whole bunch more at home. I'm going to use them for my little knitted sweater ornaments I make. Today may be LO brats I brought from the cabin or BLT. Hope you all have a great Friday. Thanks for being my accountability counselor Jan Murphy Safe travels up to the service and back. Hope you can get to CR next week and glad you didn't think about drinking. Is September when you will start on Medicare or a different insurance? Glad Bud got to come home but hope he's actually feeling better soon. Cathy Enjoy your day, hope you get all the book reviews done. Cindy How was the trip into town for the dentist? Did you drive yourself or did DS go with? Hope he's feeling better today too. TOO hot for me down there for sure. We had a lot of thunder and lightning last night but today is beautiful. I need to get out and see what's still alive in our yard as this was the first rain in a long time, not sure if DH watered at all when I was gone Doesn't sound like the friend girl has been around lately? Amy Find any treasures at the estate sale? I would like to find a small Christmas tree to put some ornaments on at our craft sale. Sis thinks she has one that will work but getting her to dig it out to test it could take a bit and I'd like to get an idea of our set up before the fair, which is the first weekend of November. It's just a 10x10 space in the high school gym so thinking about how to put things out to look "festive". Glad you corn was yummy, do you fertilize all during growing season? I know they are high ?? Nitrogen users (I think) Not sure why FB keeps saying my calorie burn is higher. I'm doing more push ups and the one day was a lot of fair walking but would it show more burn just from my heart rate being up more because it's not like my steps are more. Hmmm. Yay for the scale that keeps moving down. Mine is all over the place, will post tomorrow as I know today is Wine Puff and fried fish Carole Bet you're looking forward to the weekend. Anything fun planned or just relax after a week of work? Has your friend opened the gym yet? Time for breakfast and some steps.

Hi All!
Clean up day around the house. Trying to catch up on stuff including paying the bills. I think I got them all. It is just too hot to be outside, even going out to the garage makes it hard to breath. Just a few more days of the high heat and then back to the normal summer time temps in Texas. I hope if I keep working at it, I will be able to kneel and get some reading done. Need to finish making my knee pad!
Watched Unstable, season 2, on Netflix last night. I enjoyed it. Not that many episodes so was easy to binge.
Murphy, glad you have a plan! I hope the trip to the funeral was an easy driving trip. Prayers for DBIL and family and prayers for your DB and DSIL. Glad Bud was able to come back home and hopefully is in less pain today. Wishing peace for everyone.
Cathy, had leftovers too...long grain rice with paella seasoning mixed with Mexican street corn. Was glad not to cook tonight. Hope you are able to talk to family this weekend. Has your daughter heard anything about the visa yet? Probably too soon but will keep positive thoughts.
Amy, did you find anything at the real estate sale today? Hope you were able to get some good stuff at the Farmer's Market. I have a squash plant growing that I didn't plant. Need to put a sign by it so the yard guy doesn't chop it down in his effort to control the "weeds".
Jan, good for you for climbing out of the rabbit hole. Sometimes it is just a response to being tired which can also mean whatever. Love the little hangers for your knitted sweaters ornaments. Maybe your thrift shop will eventually have a small Christmas tree. I drove myself to the dentist...took the back way. The dentist is local so didn't need to go over the bridge. Wish we had gotten your rain. The F/G came by on my birthday during her lunch time. She gave me a lovely Catrina porcelain doll, a day of the dead doll. She knows I have a collection of them but this one is far more beautiful and delicate than any I have. Since she had to return to work she wasn't here that long. Since she has been working two jobs she hasn't had much time to visit. DS and she continue to text frequently.
Vicki, have a wonderful weekend!
Carole, hope you are having a weekend away from work.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Cindy

Another quiet day at home. Our daughter celebrates her 45th birthday today and we hope to chat before or after our electricity cut between 4-6pm this afternoon. Not sure what lunch will be but am considering either making mixed vegetables or doing them separately to have in the future to use in grain bowls, with pasta, or on baked potatoes. No real news. Not sure what this coming week holds in store but perhaps a drive south to a government office if it is open so that Mounah can check on inheritance documents.
Hope all have a good weekend.
