Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes āhow can you love someone else if you canāt love yourselfā.
There are many ways we donāt show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over āwhy did I drink too muchā and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierā. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnāt here, so letās deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my āflawsā have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iām alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good Saturday morning all! Yesterday was kind of long and tiring but everything went ok. I took a slightly longer route home and it rained and stormed the last 45 minutes but I made it fine. The funeral was very sweet. DBIL has 2 sisters. The youngest lived next to their mother and really took on a large part of the caregiving. The other sister (middle child) is estranged from the family and they really don't know why. It was so sad because her mother kept asking for her before she died. The youngest sister called her and told her their mother was dying and asking for her and she responded "she doesn't really want to see me". They told her when the funeral was and she said "you don't really want me there". Just so very sad. I am grateful that I still have good relationships with my siblings. Life is truly too short to live with hate in your heart.
Amy - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope it is the most wonderful day!
Going to pick up a few groceries to last me through the rest of the month. But thankfully no other big plans. I will give myself a manicure this afternoon. BBL Murphy

September 2 Good morning all. Had a better day but have noticed my tracking has been pretty sloppy lately. It starts at the cabin when I can't get on line all the time and think I will remember later, nope. Thought I had yesterday all put in and then remembered, oh yeah, I ate that pudding, and some peanuts last night and some protein drink, which all add up. Went back to my AF app and also added a AIM day to keep the numbers honest for myself. Focus the next few days are just to really track, every Bite Lick taste, even put my food scale on the counter. It's a bit different when tracking both FB and WW as normally I would just plop a bunch of FF cottage cheese in a bowl as it's 0 points, but if I measure it out it makes a difference obviously in calories and also protein and macros. We'll see how long I can sustain doing both more diligently but going to try. Need to break out of this up down stay the same. Not sure of any plans for today. I bought 8 corn at the farm stand yesterday, we had some for dinner but going to cut the rest off and freeze it. It started out sunny this morning but the clouds are coming back so don't think I'll go down to the market, don't really need anything today, just have to get my steps in at some point. I know the other 1/2 of that Butterfinger will call my name at some point today I was so proud to pass up the big cookie at the store that looked so good and then couldn't resist the candy bar because it was 49c, such a bargain! 6 point bargain for 1/2 but guess I can work it in and then work it off. I finally heard from DB, I guess his bus was about an hour late, probably because of the storms, which made him miss his train in Milwaukee. Got home @9 at night. I was just glad there was another train going down to Chicago that he could catch, sometimes Amtrak only has a few random trains. Hope you all have a great Saturday. The month is flying by! Jan Amy Happy Birthday!! Hope they are treating you to a lovely breakfast. Anything fun planned for the day? Enjoy Murphy I don't get it about family drama either. I guess it's just because my family has never really had that kind of mess. My sis DH has all that stuff, it's so draining. Sorry the woman couldn't even come to the funeral but maybe it did make it less stressful for the others. Glad you got home ok and the storm wasn't too bad. Hope you can find the groceries you need and then are set for the rest of the month. Cindy Glad the dentist trip is local and you were able to get there and back. What did you decide to make your knee pad out of? Hope it cools off soon so you can get outside. My excuse today is it's too wet to mess with the weeds They aren't going anywhere! Do need to get out and check if the bird feeder is empty or if there is soggy mess to clean out. I ordered some suet from chewy with my cat food, at least that can handle the rain and keeps something available. The order says it's coming today, or I'll have a mutiny on my hands. DH lets it get down to a few cans of food while I'm gone and I have one left. I'll pick up a few at the store later if needed. The GF is trying to win you over but glad she at least picks out something you like. Cathy Hope you can talk to your DD and wish her a happy birthday. Waving hi Will check back later.

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park yesterday morning to walk and check out the farmers market. The plant guy had hanging baskets for $5, I bought 2 petunias to replace my sad sun baked ones. Also bought a dill and a rosemary plants. We also got peaches from another booth, they've been so good this year. After we walked we went to Ingles then stopped at Walmart to drop off the Shark vacuum at the FedEx store. They are supposed to send a new one when they receive the return. When we got home I had some couch time but did not nap. We had chicken enchiladas for dinner, with chile rellenos casserole, rice, broccoli, and cake. We picked up a cake from the Ingles bakery that was quarters of 4 different cakes, red velvet, coconut, German chocolate, and carrot. They were all delicious, I had a sliver of each. After dinner we played Winky Dink and watched the last 2 episodes of Sweet Tooth. We had thunderstorms off and on all evening, so I skipped getting in the tub. I read for a bit and was able to fall asleep fairly easily.
DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail this morning, it was pretty nice at the time. Cory and I picked green beans, some peppers, and a couple of tomatoes when we got back. We had bacon, scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese, fresh fruit, and donuts for breakfast. I got a variety and sampled all of them. I now need a nap, LOL. DH got me a pressure canner, so I will probably study that this afternoon.
Thanks to all for the birthday wishes! I am blessed to have you in my life.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, tracking. The hangers for your sweaters sound cute. Love the FB pics, the fish looked really good. Hope you can find a tree for your ornament display, I have several. I kind of feel like I don't get enough credit for my calorie burn on Fitbit, but I guess it's working out. I didn't buy anything at the estate sale, I may go back today since it's the last day. I probably should have fertilized the corn more, since the soil is so poor.
Cindy- WTG for the cleanup day, paying bills. Hope you get some relief from the heat soon. The doll from f/g was a lovely gift, I could see being ambivalent about it. GL with your volunteer squash.
Cathy- Happy birthday to your daughter!
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad the funeral was nice, it's too bad about the estranged daughter. There are some bitter feelings in the family towards my brother's wife, but at least we can be civil and somewhat friendly. She does show up for most family events.

Hi girls. Yesterday I went for a walk here on the road before it got too hot or humid. My back is feeling better, but I am sitting here with the heating pad and the fan on high! š I spent last night watching Little House on the Prairie. š¤·š¼āāļø DD called and we talked for a long time. Sheās been working so hard on their house before the inspection on Monday. Iāll be glad when all this is over for them. Itās so stressful and you know how we feel about our babies! Would rather go through it for them. Tomorrow is Jacksonās birthday celebration. It will be so good to see everyone. They have been so busy, we havenāt seen them since June! It will just be family at the house. Perfect!
Amy: Happy, Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with your favorite things! Yay for the canner! Definitely something you will use!
Murphy: Iām glad you got home safely! Can you schedule your counseling appointment now even though you donāt go on your new insurance until next month?
Cindy: Iām glad you are staying inside! Do you think f/g is getting mixed signals from DS?
Cathy: Happy Birthday to DD!
Jan: This is just a blip on the big screen of life. You know youāll get your focus back! Keep trying!

Hello my friends! Iām finally outside, 9:30 pm. Iām on another antibiotic, and the side effect is sun sensitivity. Since I burned my fingers and toes Iām afraid of being outside. (Really I took a shower and didnāt want to put on sunscreen!) I went to woodfield, a huge mall by us to go to Sharper Image They are no longer there! I wish I wouldāve googled it first! It was packed though! We adopted our crazy dog Juno 3 years ago today! I have to make it up to her and walk her tomorrow. I was lazy today.
Amy, happiest of birthdays to you!! I hope you had a great day and a better year!!
Cathy, happy birthday to your daughter!
Cindy, Iām glad the dentist is in town!
Hello to all! Have a great night!

Message that lenses for glasses came in on my phone so we went to have them changed out. One glasses frame was bent significantly and the optometrist told us to come back if it wasn't right...how would *I* know if it is not right? They are the pair that I was wearing in Vienna when I fell and bent the frames. Ah well. It is nice to have the new prescription.
Today will be a meal of produce, grains, and protein of some sort. I will come up with something. Might make deconstructed stuffed vegetables...sounds good today.
Hope to talk to our son and his family tonight.
Here's to all of us having a lovely day today.
