Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

I enjoyed my birthday yesterday but was not very productive. Talked to Chris for a while yesterday afternoon then DH went to The Juicy Crab to celebrate my birthday and spend a gift card. They serve your choice of seafood, potato, and corn on the cob boiled in a bag with your choice of seasoning and spice level. Needless to say I ordered "mild". It's a messy meal, but delicious. When we finished eating we stopped into Hobby Lobby to look for some discounted summer decor. There's not much of that left but lots of Fall and Christmas stuff. When we got back home we had a bit more of the birthday cake and I settled down to watch some TV. We got another thunderstorm in the early evening, yay for not needing to water today.
It's cloudy but the rain chances are low. We need to get out and mow the yard sometime, hopefully it stays overcast. We only have a 20% chance of rain. Today is my Dad's birthday, he would have been 111.
Vicki- Glad your back is better and you were able to get out for a walk. Yay for a long chat with your daughter, hopefully the house stress is over soon. Enjoy Jackson's birthday celebration today.
Carole- Sorry about the sun sensitivity and Sharper Image being gone. Loved your family selfie in FL!
Cathy- Hope the scale rewards you soon and your new prescription lenses are an improvement.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Hope church is lovely.

September 2 Good morning all. Another better day, baby steps. Still munchy but all tracked. Got some projects finished yesterday, finished a knitted hat, a little gnome and cast on a little Christmas tree ornament. Trying to do a few small things a day or so. Just a lot of couch time and football. I guess DS paid for the NFL channel and we share his You tube tv. Games on all day! I think it probably helped my sleep to not take a nap last night. I just have to get up and move more and not just sit when I'm feeling tired in the afternoon. Stop trying to wake up with a sugar fix. This morning there was the bike ride past the house, they are going around the lake, about 75 miles. First group went by @6:30 and all done before 8. Right now it's just overcast so maybe they'll make the loop with no rain. No big plans today, going to go to Bath and Body as their soaps are on sale for $2.95, this is the last day. Also have a coupon for a free body product. I usually get DS some shower gel and stick it in his stocking or Christmas box. This morning I also went on my United Healthcare to spend our quarterly $$ in their online store. Stocked up on some toothbrushes, toothpaste, Tylenol, Motrin and a few other things. DH is making some breakfast sandwiches and then I will head out on my errands. Thinking maybe some tuna on salad for lunch sounds good. The soccer is now on the TV, so guess my quiet time is over Probably should have gotten this done before going up for a shower but all good. Hope you all have a nice day and enjoy your week. Will check in later. Jan Murphy Thanks for starting us. Have fun at church. Amy Glad you had a good birthday! I felt like I ate "copious" amounts of food yesterday but the numbers actually weren't that bad. Was it just you and DH out to dinner? The sea food boil sounds so yummy. Yay for not having to water but hope it's not to wet to mow. Cathy Glad you got the new glasses. Hope you can talk to family today. Carole Hope the meds work and you can get back outside soon. We used to go to Woodfield when I was growing up. Then we would take DS there when he was young because they had the Rainforest Cafe. Happy adoption birthday to Juno. GG Fingers crossed all goes well with the inspection tomorrow and the kids can move on and out. Hope your back feels better today. Does your Y have a hot tub you can go in? Will DD new house have a pool? Waving hi

Had a good church service this morning. Our minister of music actually presented the message as our senior pastor is out of town. He did a fabulous job! I was up this morning at 3:00 so as soon as I ate a sandwich for lunch, I took a 2 hour nap on the couch! I'm leaving in a few minutes with Judy to go back for Sunday night "round table" with the women. Tomorrow I'm going to spend the day with my brother and look forward to that. Will catch up then. Hello,
Of course, bleary eyed, didn't notice that I was a "guest", sent post, didn't check and of course, duh, it didn't go through. I need to use more eye drops.
After reading many reviews for easy cleaning, use this, so I decided to buy Air Fryer liners...bought a well respected brand....tried it out tonight...before the air fryer preheated, the liner was roasting and when I pulled out the "drawer", the paper was burning. Our Dyson air purifier went from green to red and twenty minutes later it is still red. It is way too hot outside to open windows so will deal with it. Contacted Amazon and they are refunding the money and don't bother to return the product.
DS went to do some repair work. Found the battery for his drill and once attached discovered the drill would only unscrew, not screw. Well that doesn't help. So the repairs are put off for another day. Oh and the hose has split....probably due to the heat but seriously do I need to put the hose away during the summer when I use it most days.
Enough kvetching!
Murphy, thanks for getting us started! Glad you had a good worshipping experience this morning. Yay for a nap and going out tonight with Judy for the "round" table with the women. Enjoy your time with your brother. I hope he is feeling better! Hugs!
Amy, glad you had a wonderful birthday dinner! Sounds delicious. There was a place in Seattle where you could order a similar dinner and they would dump it on the butcher paper covering the table. Very messy! Heavenly birthday wishes to your Dad...I guess you were his birthday present. Love the photo of the day!
Jan, you have a very active neighborhood. Yay for Bath and Body sales. Yay for items with your United Healthcare account. I need to make some breakfast sandwiches. I'm bad about eating breakfast but sometimes I would just like something. I hope you had a good eating day and enjoyed a peaceful Sunday.
Cathy, yay for getting your new glasses. Happy birthday to your daughter and I hope you were able to chat today.
Carole, all of the Sharper Images have closed in our areas. I get a catalog now and then. Happy birthday to Juno. I hope you are feeling better and the meds have kicked in!
GG, hope Jackson had a wonderful birthday celebration! I hope everything goes well for DD and family and the inspection of the house and all that is entailed with moving.
So guess will get back to stuff tomorrow. Have an infusion this coming week. An overpass bridge has been knocked down and not sure how that might affect the drive....back to watching morning traffic. I think DS will be able to drive me.
Hugs to all and wishing everyone a wonderful week! Cindy
