Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday morning. It started out cloudy but the sun came out by the time we were done. When we got back we got busy on the yard, even though the grass was still fairly wet. I edged, trimmed, weeded, picked green beans and 7 cucumbers, managed to fall off one of the retaining walls. I wasn't hurt, if anyone saw, I'm sure it was amusing. I went to 3 neighbors to unload the cucumbers. Then I came in, showered, had lunch, and some couch time. DH grilled a steak for dinner which we had with baked potatoes, green beans, and cucumber salad. I finished off the last of the cake, good to have it gone. The A/C unit for upstairs was making weird noises so we turned it off. It stayed reasonably cool up there with the window open, but got really noisy this morning with all the going to work, school bus, garbage truck activity.
It's a sunny day and will be busy with water aerobics and taking to DD for a doctor appointment. DH is calling the HVAC company now.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF, finishing projects. I don't pay any attention to the UHC points, I guess I should. It was just DH & I at the Juicy Crab, nothing on the menu that DD would have liked.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad it was a good church service and you got a nap. Have a good visit with your brother today.
Cindy- Sorry about the lost post, air fryer liner event, DS's issue with drill, hose splitting. Sounds like a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Love your quote about your summer. They did have butcher paper on the tables at the Juicy Crab, but we did get stainless steel pans to dump our bags into and a bucket for the shell and other debris.

September 2 Good morning all. Happy Monday. So glad its almost my new point week and WW meeting day. I will go face the scale tomorrow and get the wake up call. Beautiful out this morning, have things to do in the yard and then take a walk. Need some time OFF the couch Got my deals at B&B, the sale soaps, my free gift and then they even had a %20 off coupon. The meds etc I ordered from the Advantage site already showed up at the door this morning! We are set on tooth paste, Tylenol and Advil for quite a while ha ha. I'm sure all the big news today will focus around the DNC in Chicago. Will watch some at some point but try to tune out all the extra hype. I need to see if I can get a hair appt in the next couple weeks. Want a trim up and refresh the highlights a bit, have to look "good" for the reunion next month Not that worried, most folks I've seen in pictures have either gone all gray or are bald No other big plans for the day. Hope everyone is ready for a new week. Will check in later. Jan Murphy Hope your DB has a good day. Thanks for getting us going. Cindy Love the quote. That's crazy about the air fryer, good thing you were right there to check on it. Yikes. Hope you can work out a good way to drive into town this week and DS can do the driving. Amy Have fun in the pool. Hope the HVAC fix isn't too $$. We each get $40 a quarter to spend on healthcare items, I use the online catalogue but think you can also do it at Walmart. Sometimes I can't even find enough things we would need but figure Q tips, chapstick etc will last. I've even bought multiple toothbrushes to donate to the shelter, even tho that's probably not "allowed". Also I have my fitbit linked up and get $10 a month for just anything. I've bought plants at Walmart, and food. I just scan my card. Got to love free $$. Yay for giving the neighbors veggies. Better get some steps in. Also, Scout has had a busy morning pushing all the papers and items by DH chair off onto the floor and I need to pick up. He is currently done "working" I guess and napping on the coffee table.

Back home now. Had a good visit with DB. He is actually doing better than I expected. DSIL got out to spend the day with friends and DB and I took a drive. Went through Taco Bell drive through for lunch. He's not having as much trouble with the anxiety and he walks some without the walker. But he is very unsteady and says that sometimes his legs just feel like lead. Breaks my heart for sure. I'm tired though. Sorry for the lack of personals. Murphy

Hi all. Checking in again. Good thing for Facebook memories or would have forgotten our 40th anniversary ha ha Maybe would have remembered at some point, the days just go together and I never think of the date. I was happy I knew it was Monday! Anyway, DH went and got a nice steak to grill, and a nice bottle of wine. I will enjoy it, consider it "special" as it's not coming out of a box and start my new week tomorrow. I'm hoping at some point this year we can still take a nice trip somewhere, even if just out east again and spend some more time with DS. I did get a walk around the park, sorted out a big tangle of yarn mess the cats had made long ago and I shoved in a bag. Finished my book and told DH his anniversary present was I ran the vacuum! He said mine was he mowed the lawn. We're such an exciting couple. Tonight we'll watch some of the DNC, hoping for at least some positive messaging. Hope you all have a great evening. Jan

Hi girls. We had a good time at Jackson’s birthday dinner. It was just so good to see everybody! Today I had Rylee. The only problem was I reached for something and my back went into spasms again. DD got here around 1 so it wasn’t too bad. I don’t have her again until Thursday. Hopefully by then it’ll feel better. Tomorrow DH starts prep for his colonoscopy on Wednesday. I’m just glad it’s him and not me!

Hi friends! Not the best day at work, tomorrow is a new day. I helped my df (with a bunch of others) throw garbage, dry wall into the dumpster from her new gym. I’m now exhausted! The place is much bigger than I thought since they took a wall out. I’m excited to see it all done! Our internet and/or cable has not been working for a week or so. So frustrating. Anyway, I’m sorry for lack of personals. Have a great night!

Hi Everyone!
Got sucked into watching the DNC convention...still watching since I paused it for awhile.
Murphy, thanks for getting us going. Glad you had a good time with your DB and he was willing to go for lunch. His walking without a walker is great, even if for short times. I'm sure your DSIL appreciated the break you provided her.
Amy, I hope the A/C is an easy fix. Wish I lived near you to get cukes. DS likes to hollow them out and fill them with ranch dressing or tuna or whatever strikes him and just munches on it. Hope water aerobics was fun and that DD's appointment went well. I laughed about yesterday being a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Really such minor inconveniences but sometimes argh! and with the heat have to take advantage when the mood strikes. A new hose has been purchased today!
Jan, I hope you get positive news at your meeting but as you say it is a starting point and you move on. Yay for the sales and the meds and OTC stuff showing up so quickly. Glad Scout had a busy morning! I made an appointment for Ainsley for her geriatric wellness visit and now she is back on her diet. Not happy. It makes me feel like me when I go to the doctor's. Happy Anniversary!! Perfect gifts!
Vicki, I'm sorry about your back...do you take anything for it? I take OTC Backaid and find it helps. I hope you are feeling better! I hope DH handles the prep with "grace". Never fun!
Carole, I wish you had a better day at work. Do you think you will be able to work at your friend's gym? Sounds you did a complete work out with throwing the garbage and drywall into the dumpster. Never fun when the internet/cable isn't working...I get really frustrated and I think is going to get worse since we are having so many houses built in the area....someone is sure to cut a cable somewhere or trip a transformer. Hope you get a good night rest.
Cathy, hope you were able to talk with family and that you have electricity and water! Keep reading reports and continual prayers for you and DH.
Best news of the day is I realize my appointment in Dallas isn't till next week!! Hopefully it will be cooler. We only hit 103 today...almost balmy. Birds are fed, the bird bath filled, and can see lots of cardboard going into the barrel tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Seems I have not posted for a few days...not sure why. We did run errands yesterday and any day I don't do morning posts is a day that I tend to forget to post later in the day. We were able to talk to our children and granddaughters and had electricity cuts from time to time. The Blue Moon was pretty last night when the clouds weren't covering it. Might drive my husband to a government office in Jounieh tomorrow and if I do, won't be able to go play cards in Tripoli...hope he knows SOON so I can let the women know!
No personals...already after noon and I need to make lunch!
