Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good Friday morning all! I slept well and have my "to do" list made out. Phone calls to make and I'm going to purge some more in the guest closet. I have enough clothes to make at least 3 wardrobes!! Just no sense in that. Hope you all have a wonderful morning! Murphy

DH & I drove to the lake to walk yesterday morning. We hadn't been there for a while and it was nice. I picked up a book from the little free library, even though I have a pile of other stuff to read. After we walked we went to Lowes and Home Depot looking for a new gas grill and a sink for the basement. We didn't buy anything, but know what we want now. DH found the grill he wants on Lowes online and they will deliver for free. We stopped at Biscuit Belly to cash in my birthday BOGO deal. It was delicious, but through off my whole day as far as calories and macros go and I had reflux for the rest of the day. When we got back home I picked green beans and tomatoes and watered the hanging baskets. Then couch time, I was really tired even though I didn't do much. We had spinach ravioli for dinner with pesto, salad, and a French loaf. After dinner I watched Emily in Paris and stitched. I had trouble falling asleep, but slept well, other than having to pee a lot.
It's another sunny day, no rain in the forecast for the next week. I'm not sure if Cory is coming tonight since the A/C is out upstairs.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, good macros, trifecta! Hope knitting and lunch was fun. Have a great trip and take lots of photos. I planted two 4-packs of cucumbers and they were really slow to start growing, got chewed on by some varmint, but finally got going in the last month. Something's chewing on them again, including a big bite out of one of the cucumbers, so they may not last much longer. I don't mind having a surplus, especially if I can give them away. I'm pretty sure I could unload them at water aerobics.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad the blood donation went well, keep an eye on that B/P. Yay for having more space with the vacuum bags. Enjoy the ambiance of your candles. Glad you slept well. I have way too many clothes in 3 closets. I definitely need to do more purging.
Carole- Glad you had a better day at work. Hope you enjoyed the concert. WTG nagging the gym owner for your money back.
Cathy- Yay for the scale staying down. Hope you get caught up on your sleep.

M-W Word of the Day
newfangled adjective | NOO-FANG-guld What It Means Newfangled describes something that has been recently invented or developed, and usually implies that this new thing is difficult for some to understand. // The neighbors are always showing off their new gadgets and tools, but I feel no need for those newfangled contraptions.

Hi girls!
Not jumping on to the challenge just yet but wanted to check in. I will however be a little better with improving my eating habits such as cutting out late night snacks to begin with. Yesterday was beautiful day weather wise, my friend and I first went to our Electrologist appointment (old age brings out those unwanted chin hairs 😂). Then we did some retail therapy. I bought a bolster size fall themed pillow for my sofa and picked up pjs for the kids. Watched the convention and that was a wrap for the day. Went to sleep right after that. Today just doing some laundry and working on a cable knit sweater for Isabel, Have s great Friday!

It's been a quiet but fairly productive day. I had to spend about an hour and half on the phone this morning. Had to call Marketplace to notify them that I would be transitioning to my MCare plan as of 9/1. They will notify my current insurance. Then I went round and round on the phone with Humana trying to cancel my current vision insurance that I've had for almost 2 years. That was so frustrating to get caught in the endless loops of computerized choices. FINALLY got to the right department and I think that is taken care of. Then I worked some in the guest closet. There are some things that I haven't worn this summer but I'm not ready to let them go yet. I did purge several things though. I'll need to make a trip for donation soon. I plan to clean in the garage tomorrow and I think there will be things to donate from that project as well.
Amy - is Cory still doing ok? Yay for a new grill!!
Liz - I'm with you on those chin hairs!! I've made one friend promise that if I go in a nursing home, they will promise to come over weekly to pluck my chin hairs! I'm excited about putting out my fall decorations. I'll probably hold off till Sept 1st but I am ready for it!!
Laundry is calling. Hope everyone has a great rest of your day! Murphy

Hi girls. I made it through 2 days of Grandma Camp! Yesterday we did an experiment. Rylee cut wild flowers that are white and then we put them in colored water to see if they would turn colors. Today they are blue, red, green, and violet. She rode her motorized car a lot, and Grandma got lots of steps. In fact, I was over 10,000 last night and had all my active hours! We went to the library and she played at the playground for awhile. Then I had a 1 1/2 hour meeting at church. Yes, I was tired! Today we went looking for crafts for her to do. I just need to look on Pinterest as suggested. We did get stuff to make slime and she liked that. My girl came and cut my hair, which really needed it. She lives a mile away from me and a bear has been seen near her house! 😲 All is well with DD’s house stuff. Now it’s just waiting for 9-16. Then we can get inside and see it! Rylee is excited.
Murphy: That insurance stuff is no fun!
Liz: Good to see you back! Has school started in your area?

Hi All!
Apologies for missing posting. My friend's husband's celebration of life is tomorrow. She called last night and it was the never ending call, end, call back, etc. She played the music that she plans to have played...I didn't know any of the songs. She has a lot of photos for a presentation. I couldn't get a straight answer as to what was going to be happening. We are driving two hours to get there, celebration at noon....so how long will this last? Sounds terrible but are going to get coffee and cookies? or? We are packing a cooler to take...lots of water, some pin wheels easy to munch in the car and some takeis. She was more interested in talking politics and is back to doing lots of posts but I don't want to talk politics. I have no idea of how many people will show up, will there be a minister? I'm just not looking forward to doing this.
Tomorrow, once home, will let you know how it goes.
Amy, hope Corey is doing fine.
Hugs to all, Cindy

September 2 Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <168> [?] I did do an average of daily weights and the average is about 2 pounds lower than the first day of the week. Will see what tomorrow brings.
I had an OP day, read, tried to stay cool, cooked zucchini and eggplant, checked in with people and finished a book. Today we will probably not talk to our daughter because she and her husband will be shopping for a new car. I went to bed last night (this morning) at 1:30am and was up at 8:30 this morning to find out that the electricity was still gone...glad I didn't wake up early! We have leftovers for lunch so won't be cooking anything today.
