Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park to walk and check out the farmers market. The weather was beautiful, I bought peaches, a big cantaloupe, and a $2 tomato plant. We stopped at Ingles afterwards for groceries. When we got home and the groceries were put away I went out to pick green beans and tomatoes and watered the strawberry bed and porch plants. Then lunch and couch time. I made an angel food cake with pineapple, cut up the cantaloupe and watermelon, made the strawberry gelato. Cory was a little late, but is doing well. He's got a lot of bruises and scratches from his fall. We had chicken and noodles, a ham slice, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls for dinner, with the angel food cake and gelato for dessert. After dinner we played Winky Dink and watched The Fall Guy movie with Ryan Gosling, which we enjoyed. Lee Majors made a cameo in the credits, fun. I was up until a little after midnight, but slept well.
It's another pretty day here. It was still in the 50's when I got up, headed to the upper 80's.
Liz- Yay for checking in, beautiful weather, retail therapy, knitting.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for a productive day, dealing with the insurance stuff, having donations ready to go. Yay for sleeping well.
Vicki- Yay for 2 days with Rylee. The white flower experiment sounds fun. WTG for 10,000 steps and getting all your active hours.
Cindy- GL with the Celebration of Life. Sounds like it could be an ordeal.
Cathy- WTG for an OP day, reading. Yay for leftovers. GL to DD on her new car shopping.

It's been a good day. I got several little things done around the house. Still need to work some more in the garage but I think that will be an on-going project! I ordered a two tiered tray and set it up in the kitchen with some fall stuff on it. I am aware that temps are going to be back in the 90's this week but I can dream of cooler weather! LOL
Amy - I need to stop by the produce market in the next few days and get some things! So glad that Cory is healing and doesn't seem to have any serious injuries! Supper sounded great!!
Cindy - hope all goes well with the memorial service.
Jan - are you back at the cabin?
I sure do miss Scout! I think I'm just missing having the company around the house. I'll wait a few more weeks and then will start looking again. I'm still feeling very good and strong. I still plan to schedule with the therapist after the first of the month. But I'm very happy to feel as good as I do. Murphy

Hello friends! Sitting outside, it’s pretty warm. DH does not stop talking —holy mackerel! I’m going to a night ride tonight, through Busse Woods. There’s supposed to be s’mores and food trucks. I’m excited. I can’t concentrate—have a great day!

Hi All!
It was an exhausting day. The two hour drive each way was long but okay but my knee was aching miserably and I didn't do the driving. We were going to take DS's car because it gets much better gas mileage than my car does. Thankfully we went with mine. Decision made when I couldn't get in and out of his car with comfort. Anyway, once off the highway, it was a dusty rocky dirt road, about a lane and a half wide. I don't think DS's car would have made it...his car was low to start but he had lowered it even more. We parked on gravel covered in weeds. We were fifteen minutes early but many people had already arrived so we went in. The location was lovely with a lake and I could see why people would use it for a location for a wedding.
Once inside people stayed with people they knew. We found my friend and she immediately asked DS for a favor. He is thinking that she needs help with the video or audio system.....no.....she wants him to read the program out loud. It is six pages. What could he say? The first two pages were about Jeff's life, third page listed all the relatives left behind, fourth was Bible verses, the last two pages poems his Mom had written before she died. Music was way too loud and essentially classic rock, some country. Finally about 30 minutes late from the start time, my friend suggests that everyone go get something to eat. DS and I looked at the food and decided against it. People are taking stuff with their hands, including kids that had been playing outside. No one had washed hands. We drank water. We are still wondering what is going to happen. People are eating, finishing, what next? Finally my friend gets up and says a few words, her daughter says a few words and then she asks if everyone would like the program read aloud or had they already read it. I'm muttering we've read it but no one really says anything so she calls DS up to the front to read. We had talked about it and I told him to skip the page with the relatives. He did a great job considering he never met my friend's husband. Then my friend asks if anyone would like to say anything....not a peep. So she says a few words, asks again if anyone would like to say anything, not a peep....she asks for a third time and finally her husband's niece gets up and says a few words which were basically how her uncle was always there for her. After she finishes, my friend makes one more effort to get someone to say something. Nothing. So she basically ends with you can stay, eat some more or take off and please take a pen that was left over from the Thanksmas they did in July. Some people had already left after eating but now there was pretty much of a mass exit. DS received many compliments on his reading. There was maybe forty including relatives. There was a balcony and some kids had gone up there with no supervision and were making noise throughout. I could see that several parents whose kids were sitting quietly, were upset as to where are the parents. It was disrespectful but the whole event was awkward and forced.
A safari giraffe cremation urn was used which did not honor her husband but I guess gave her comfort.
I would guess that my friend didn't know her husband's co-workers but gave the invite to his boss and he passed it on. About half had something camo on. I'll contact her tomorrow to see how she is doing. I'm just too tired tonight.
I think I could have found a way to use "Jeremiad" in the above! Thanks for the word Amy!
I'm icing my knee and taken several Tylenol...I'd like to go to bed but feel it is a bit too early.
Will chat tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Start weight July 5: 167.6 July 12: 171.6 July 19: 171 July 26:172 August 2: 171.2 August 9: 170.8 August 16: 167.8 August 23: 166.8 August 30: Yay we have done great! September 2 Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <166.4>
My Net Diary says I have lost 1.6 pounds this week and at that rate, by my calculations, I will be just below 150 pounds if I continue to lose around 1 pound per week. 🤞
We have eggplant and zucchini cooked so might make an eggplant pasta sauce and zucchini soup to enjoy for a few days. The soup would be low-point and an easy snack or appetizer at any meal. The eggplant could also be made into a salad or baba ganouj. Will see if Mounah wants any of it to fix "his" way before deciding.
This coming week the schedule has a drive to Jounieh Tuesday morning and a pool party potluck for me on Wednesday...need to decide what to take.
I was up till about 1am last night and read a fun book, sixth in a series, then reviewed it before lights out. I am not sure what book is up next but hope it is a good one. Given a choice, will choose another romance instead of a murder mystery for today.
My daughter and her husband have a couple of hybrid car possibilities - one is a mustang...and might be a good investment, they think. Not sure if we will talk to our granddaughters this afternoon or not. It will depend on their schedules and our internet availability. Our son leaves on a business trip before we usually talk to him and his family.
MURPHY: How do you decide what to purge and what to keep? I purged all the big items in my closet because they were BIG and I'd lost weight BUT there are times I wonder if altering them might have been a good idea. That said, I am enjoying the new items of clothing so perhaps I made the right decision. Have you always had small dogs or have you ever had a medium or large dog in the past? Glad you are feeling good and strong and plan to make an appointment with a therapist the beginning of next month.
AMY: Did you make the angel food cake from scratch? If so, what did you do with all the egg yolks? I've never made one but have been curious about what one would do with the yolks. In the USA there used to be cake mixes for them but haven't seen any here in Lebanon.
CAROL: Isn't it amazing how talkative a husband can get at times? I just wish that mine was wound up about to talk about was of as much interest to me as it is to him Hope your night ride and the events/food where you went were fun and delicious. How far did you ride round-trip?
CINDY: Sounds like an awkward marathon of a day that did its best to honor and celebrate the life of a loved one. Sorry you were in so much pain. Did you wear an animal scarf?
