Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH, DS, & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning. The weather was lovely, I didn't even break into a sweat. Lots of folks out with their dogs. When we got back we had bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles, fresh fruit for breakfast. DS helped pick a few green beans and tomatoes and I sent him home with those, a cucumber, and some peppers. After he left I started the laundry, had a bit of couch time, then helped DH put up a ceiling fan in DD's room. Since the A/C is out, it was quite warm, and there were difficulties, but it's done and looks good. Too bad we didn't get it done it cooler conditions. DH grilled a steak for dinner, which we had with leftover noodles, green beans, and salad. I had leftover angel food/pineapple cake and gelato. After dinner I watched Emily in Paris, finished the Florida Gators tissue box cover and started a New York Jets ornament. I headed up to bath/bed around 11 and slept well.
Today is sunny, looking like a repeat of yesterday. It's supposed to get a little warmer every day this week, rain is forecasted for next weekend. We'll probably mow the yard today.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you had a good day yesterday, are feeling good and strong. Your fall arrangement sounds pretty, I'm ready for fall. It's nice having fur babies around for company.
Carole- Hope the night ride was fun.
Cindy- Sounds like an exhausting, awkward day, good that you took your car. It was a huge ask for DS to do all that reading. Hope your knee is feeling better today. Your story makes me think of all the funerals I've been to and a renewed appreciation for the ministers/funeral directors that have a plan and keep things moving on a schedule.
Cathy- Hope your weight loss continues at the current rate. Yay for a fun book to read/review. I use a box of angel food cake mix and a can of crushed pineapple to make the cake. It's a recipe I got from WW years ago and it never fails. I have made angel food cake from scratch but the mixes are just as good, if not better. I think my Mom used to make noodles with the leftover yolks.

M-W Word of the Day
attenuate verb | uh-TEN-yuh-wayt What It Means To attenuate something is to make it weaker or less in amount, effect, or force. // The switch from the clack of typewriters to the quiet tap of computer keyboards greatly attenuated the noise level of the office.

Good morning everyone!
Yesterday was another beautiful day weather wise. I ran a few errands then hit Marshall's and did some more retail therapy. I got Isabel a few back to school outfits, and my little pork chop Michael, a couple of outfits as well. Then I came home and just made a drink and sat outside in the afternoon which was very relaxing. It is something I haven't actually done at all this summer. I remember when I was working, during the summer we got through at 2PM so I would come home, make myself a drink and get on my big float and just lay there. I haven't floated at all this summer, just a few times in the pool playing with Isabel. Since the 15th of this month we had rainy damp weather, not conducive to the pool. DD's entire household has come down with Covid. They began testing positive since Tuesday and continued to test positive up until Friday night so needless to say I haven't seen them since the Friday before their testing. Apparently DSIL was on duty and they were called to a nursing home which was a Covid scene, and since he is an EMT, he came the closest to the person that was really struggling with it. Even though he wore a mask and gloves, he must have still come in contact with it, thus carried it home. DD was hit the hardest with it which didn't help because even though the kids had it, they were still pretty active, and DSIL being DSIL wasn't much help to DD. My heart went out to her; I wish I could have helped but given the fact that DH has respiratory issues because of his laryngectomy and he is 85, I couldn't take a chance of catching it. I wish I could be of help to her where he finally went back on duty today and she is still not feeling the greatest. Apparently as long as you do not have a fever, you need to report back to work, hopefully he tested negative today.
Anyway, yesterday was a pretty good eating day, and I did have two drinks. We might be taking a ride to the casino today not sure, but if not I will continue to work on Isabel's sweater. Hope you all have a fabulous day!
Amy~ Glad Cory's injuries were not too serious. I always skim by the Fall Guy even though I like Ryan Gosling. Since you liked it, I think I will give it a chance and watch later tonight.
Jan~ Hope you are enjoying cabin time!
Murphy~ You sound so good and I am happy for you! I know your home must feel empty without scout but I am glad you decided to wait before you bring another fur-baby home. Now that you are feeling good and strong, it will be good for you both. Enjoy getting ready for fall. I have an oversize grapevine wreath with fall flower that I will place over my fireplace, but I think I'll wait until after the 1st as well.
Cindy~ The celebration of life sounded so grueling. Take care of your knee!
Vicki~ School starts this week I have heard. Since I have been completely retired, I haven't kept up too much with the schedule. Isabel goes back the following week and will be attending pre-school 3 days this year which will give DD more quality time with Michael.
Carole~ I almost spit out my coffee when you said that DH wouldn't stop talking! My DH does that when I want quiet while I am knitting. Can't wait to hear about the ride, it sounded like it would be fun. So I have missed a lot. Are you still working at the school but in another job there?
Cathy~ Sounds like you are in the right mind set and determined to get into the 150s!

Hi All!
Been recovering from yesterday. Not much accomplished today but that is okay. I did reach out to my friend but no response...figure she needed to recover also. DS has shared the event with several friends and they have the same reaction.
We have several bushes that I think may not make it if we don't have a soaking rain. We don't have sprinklers in the backyard and we are under a water restriction, not that many seem to pay attention to it. I just don't want my water bill to triple...would be cheaper to buy new bushes this fall.
Going to try the "fake it till you make it" tomorrow. I seem to be lagging on too many activities though many are outside and it is just too too hot. We will probably hit 100 degrees tomorrow. Really doesn't feel much better than 110 degrees.
Murphy, thanks for getting us going. I hope you enjoyed the church services today. Please know we are all rooting for you and hoping the counselor will work out well for you! Hugs!
Amy, I told DS that you thought it was a huge ask and he appreciated the support. It truly was. I agree with you that I have great appreciation for the ministers/funeral directors that handle the arrangements. We discussed it further today and essentially there was no plan. My friend asked a friend at the last minute to say a prayer. i don't know if was a minister but it took him by surprise. It is done so will just try to be supportive. Glad Cory is doing better and was able to take home some produce. I haven't watched Emily in Paris, will have to try it. During one of the storms several light bulbs blew out in my fan. None of the remaining lights work and not sure why....on the list of to dos tomorrow.
Liz, it is so good to see your posts. I'm so sorry that DD and family got COVID and that DSIL is not stepping up as he should, IMHO. I hope he tested negative and some semblance of normal can resume. Prayers for the family. Did you got to the casino?
Carole, I had to laugh about DH not stop talking. Know the feeling from the past.
Cathy, I think your determination will bring you into the fifties! Enjoy your next book. I wore camo pants (future gardening pants) and a tiger print scarf in my hair. Covered my bases, lol.
Hi Vicki!
Hi Jan, welcome home! I'm sure Scout and Finn are happy!
Okay, fingers crossed tomorrow is fake it till I make it!
Hugs, Cindy

Another OP day yesterday. Unable to talk to our granddaughters due to no electricity or internet at times all were available. The usual reading and reviewing took place with little else to tell you about. I made zucchini soup from the cooked zucchini and threw in a few leftover garbanzo beans...and after seeding a tiny hot pepper, added it. Pureed all together and it was good BUT hubby asked with the HOT was in it and when he heard it was a pepper from the garden seemed okay with it. I see pickling peppers in the future if we end up with enough of them.
MURPHY
AMY: Interesting about making noodles with the yolks when making angel food cake. I think that I've also read that making lemon curd or custards BUT just googled and found...https://www.ateaspoon.com/recipes/2021/4/9/twelve-yolk-pound-cake. Perhaps on a baking day one would be able to make both cakes for a bake sale?
LIZ: Sorry your daughter and her family had covid and you were unable to help them out BUT glad you didn't go and catch it, too! It sounds like the "days off" might have been restful and relaxing and just what you needed to recharge.
JAN: Glad you made it home safely. When do you close down the cabin for the season?
CINDY: You made me smile with the tiger-print and camouflage pants outfit you wore to the funeral. Glad that event is behind you and hope you rested up afterward.
