Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my âflawsâ have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iâm alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning! I slept late this morning. Didn't get out of bed till 6:00!! LOL. I've done my quiet time, had my devotions, did my exercises and got my shower so I guess I'm caught up. We had a great service yesterday morning. Then we had round tables again last night. No big plans for the day. I need to do a bit of house cleaning and I want to straighten up the living room closet. Need to go get gas and get the car washed. Should be a good day! Murphy

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday morning. It was warmer and definitely broke into a sweat. When we got back I puttered in the yard and did the edging and leaf blowing while DH mowed. I planted my new tomato plant, watered the porch and garden plants. The neighbor came over, I gave him 3 cucumbers. I brought in 3 more that had worm holes but was able to salvage half of each one. I picked one nice looking ear of corn and 4 more pitiful looking ones. When I was done outside I showered, put my jammies on, had some couch time. We had grilled pork chops for dinner, which yellow squash casserole, the corn, cucumber salad. After dinner I watched 60 Minutes and a Hallmark movie. I was in bed by midnight, but had trouble falling asleep.
It's another sunny day, starting out in the upper 50's, supposed to get to 90. I've got a busy day with water aerobics, mammogram, bone density testing.
Liz- Yay for beautiful weather, time outside and a good eating day. Sorry DD and family have had Covid and it's too risky for you to help out.
Jan- Yay for being home, loved the FB pics, beautiful water.
Cindy- Sorry your bushes are suffering from the heat and lack of rain. That's weird about the lights in the fan. Have a fake it til you make it day!
Cathy- Sorry you were unable to talk to your granddaughters due to lack of electricity. Making 2 cakes would be an efficient way to deal with the egg yolks and whites.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for sleeping in (for you). Have a good day!

September 2 Good morning all. I've spent some time trying to track past days, lots' of ball park numbers but will be BOT today. Was not AF for the trip but ready to start again. I plan to be AF with cousins at the cabin all next weekend and move forward starting today. I have blood work to schedule, bloat to lose and it's a good time to get back in my routine. Always feels like a new "season" when school is starting, even tho I don't have to go back anymore. We had a really good time, saw some beautiful country. I never knew there were those turquoise water and beaches like that up north. And such a difference from where we camped, all rocky shores to the shore by Pictured Rocks where it was powdery, clean sand, shallow entry for yards out into the lake, just gorgeous. Over the days I had good walking days, over 12,000 steps on the beachy days, and then lots of driving yesterday. Now to just get back to eating some foods that don't come out of a box or a fast food place One unpleasant part was all the driving on rutted gravel roads! Everything up there is geared to ORV trails, people on the quads etc, even all the maps show more trails than actual roads. The van is just not geared for that and it was a long slog to get out to the beach, plus no mileage or road signs so don't even know where you are going. Once there, even the people up there said it was a "secret", discourages folks from coming out to some of the more remote beaches. But it was worth it once we made it Cats were in when we got home, not sure if it's better to just leave them or have the neighbor come "help". Of course they found my new sock yarn I'd bought at the fair. There were 2 clumps left in the living room and on the little porch. I couldn't find the main ball, but then found it on the table in the bag all snarled into a lovely mess. Guess beggars can't be choosers, they come over for free. I'll get it rewound at some point. Will need to get some groceries today, mostly produce and some eggs. Dinner may be spaghetti with some LO ground beef and sausage from our trip, or if it's too hot maybe just BLT for tonight. I did NO knitting or even much reading while gone so that's back on the program for today. We need to schedule some routine van maintenance so call them at some point. Hope you all have a great week, can't believe it's almost September!! Jan Murphy When it's the right time you will find the perfect new friend Yay for 30 days AF, that's what I need to set my first goal to again. ODAAT. Hope you get your errands done and then can enjoy your day. Amy Sounds like a nice weekend. Glad Cory is doing OK and got to still come for dinner. Is that a picture of Bill and Sooky? Did you get a bigger slicing kind of tomato plant or the cherry mini type? Is it big enough so it will still produce this year? I need to pull all my things out and clean out my pots. The few decent tomatoes I had have now been munched by chipmunks or squirrels. Have fun at water aeorbics, is this the last week? Gl getting all your errands and appts done. Cindy Yikes, bless you for going to the memorial and for DS stepping up in the chaos. Hope you can just relax now for the week. Sorry the plants are frying up and you can't even water. Take care of your knee. Liz Sorry to hear the kids had Covid, hope all are healed up by the time school starts. Yay for retail therapy and relaxing in the back yard. Did you go to the casino? Did you buy a pattern for the baby sweater? I love you call Michael the little pork chop So good to see you checking in. Cathy Hope you get some electricity today and can get some chores done. I think it was a good thing to let go of some of the BIG clothes, even being frugal, we all deserve a few new nice things now and then. Did you get a good book to review next? GG Have DD gotten their Radon meter thing installed? I remember making slime with my kids at school, they always loved doing that. Sounds like a fun grandma camp time. How far is DD new house from the old house? Will you all do all the moving or will they hire someone? Carole LOL about DH talking. Mine talks when we're "trapped" in the car together Hope you have a good week of school and then enjoy your long weekend. Any plans? Waving hi to all.

It's been a good day. Got my errands done this morning and even got a nap in this afternoon! LOL Which I shouldn't have needed with the extra sleep I got this morning! I called Humana and got set up for Silver Sneakers so next week I'll be headed to the gym!
Amy - Are there more ears of corn still ripening?
Jan- sounds like a fabulous trip! I'm pretty darned proud of 30 days! Been a long time since I got that many consecutive days. I still feel very good and I'm sure happy and grateful for that!
Cindy - hope you get a break in the heat. We are back up in the 90's this week but just supposed to be in the low 80's next week. I dream of an early fall but TN weather is crazy. Not like yours though!
GG - when is DD's closing scheduled? Is the new house closer to you?
Carole - LOL about DH talking! I'm so used to the quiet that I know that would drive me nuts too!
Cathy - I agree with Jan that sometimes it's just best to let those bigger clothes go! Will you try to talk with the kids this week sometime or wait till the weekend?
Going to spend the day with my brother tomorrow. He does love to read and I'm going to take my Kindle to him to let him try it and see if that's something he would like. I use the Kindle app on my iPad mini but I've kept a Kindle that I had just in case of emergencies! If he likes it, I can deregister the Kindle and then he can load his own books. We'll see. Some people just enjoy holding a real book. Hope you all have a great rest of your Monday! Murphy

Hi girls. I rested a lot over the weekend, and this morning when I got up my back didnât hurt! Woohoo! Hopefully it will stay pain free! I hung some clothes out this morning and Rylee helped. She had never seen anyone do that before. Why donât you just put them in the dryer? Because I donât want them to shrink! We played upstairs for awhile and then after lunch she played by herself for awhile. We ended the day going into the library to see Jane the cat. Tomorrow I think weâre going swimming. Now that school has started, it shouldnât be nearly as crowded!
Murphy: Congrats on the 30 days! I canât wait to hear how you like Silver Sneakers! DDâs closing on the new house is 9-16. They have 2 weeks before their current house closes on 9-30. Her new house is only 5 minutes from their current one, so no closer to me. But itâs got lots more room.
Amy: Your cats are so cute! Rylee would love them!
Jan: It looks like a fun trip! I know DD has things scheduled, but Iâm not sure when itâs getting done. They plan on moving a lot by themselves, but will hire someone for the furniture. They are hoping to get new carpets for the bedrooms while itâs empty. But may not be able to find anyone to do it that fast.
Liz: So sorry about the Covid! Iâm imagining your little pork chop has those wonderful chunky legs with rolls! đ
Carole: Oh do I understand about the talking! After being with Rylee all day, and then having a 1 1/2 hour meeting at church, when I got home, DH was going on and on about something that really wasnât interesting. Finally, I told him I needed quiet and could he continue his story in the morning. Oy Vey!! đ¤Ťđ¤
Hi Cathy!
Cindy: what a memorable memorial service! đ¤Śđźââď¸Shaking my head!
