Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! I'm headed to stay with my brother today. DSIL has a dentist appointment and he didn't want to go with her. We had such a good time last week when I was there and I'm hoping that today is great too! I'll see if he wants to get out and go for a ride. I think that's good for both of us! Will try to check in from there. Murphy

September 2 Good morning all. Will be going to WW in a it and then will see what # to put in my WI. No big plans for today except get some AP, maybe snoop the thrift store and finish knitting a slipper I'm working on. It was awful hot here yesterday, 90's and with the heat index felt like over 100. Don't know how you all do it It was hot in California but everything was AC and dry heat. Just not motivated to do much when it's like that, good thing I can do projects. The heat set off the lighting for a long time last night and the it finally rained. Feels better this morning but supposed to get hot again today before it breaks. We only have AC in the master upstairs so it's not pleasant to work in the craft room or if DH wants to sleep in the other bedroom. At least he hasn't been snoring much lately Got to talk to DS for a long time yesterday, talked about our trip, his trip to FLorida, work etc. Now sounds like they will stay in Boston for now instead of moving again. Her parents bought a place at the Cape, still have the Long Island house for now, so easy to visit, she can do her clinicals at Boston Childrens, which she likes. We'll see what's next. I'd like to get out to visit again at some point this year but they are always on the move. October they have a trip to California, maybe we all could do something in November if the weather stays good. This weekend will be cabin for me, may stay through for the flea market on the 7th, then my friend comes, reunion the weekend of the 14th, so I'm just as busy Guess I better get moving to dress in my "uniform" for WW. Charging my FB and then time to get those steps. Have a great day all. Stay cool Jan Murphy Have fun with your DB. Glad DSIL could schedule an appt during your time there. A drive sounds nice, maybe lunch out again. Yay for getting to start silver sneakers. What gym will you go to? Do they have classes or just machines? GG Glad you back was feeling better. Sounds like you and Rylee have a great time together, enjoy it. LOL asking DH for some quiet time after your long day. Are you still the head of the women's group or has someone else taken over now? Amy Did you get all your errands and Appts done yesterday? We ate 3 of my little tomatoes that I rescued outside last night with dinner, they taste so good when they are fresh. Next summer I need to figure out a way to keep the critters off, netting or something. What a difference my Macros are when I actually drink a Fairlife in the day. I always feel like I should use the points on "food" but they do fill me up and then I get such better numbers. Plus they feel indulgent, which is a crazy mental game, like they are too good to be "healthy" for me. Brain games. At least I was proud that no junk jumped in my cart at the store. Need to move. Will check in when I get home from WW, with the good, the bad or the ugly

Water aerobics was good yesterday, the water was pretty cold though. Next week is the last week for it. I finally signed up for the yoga and low impact aerobics classes which start next week, but it says I am waitlisted. I'll have to ask what that means tomorrow. When I got home DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk and enjoyed the shade. I didn't have much time between walking and going for my mammogram for anything but lunch and some computer time. The route I take to the hospital involves a lot of winding roads and I generally have no sense of what direction I am heading. Traffic was stopped on one of the roads (Bobo Road) and people were turning around so I did the same but had no idea how I was actually going to get to the hospital. Waze kept trying to navigate me back to Bobo Road, so I finally got the idea to navigate to Hobby Lobby which is a couple of miles east of the hospital. That worked to get me around the closed road and I managed to get to the hospital on time. The mammo didn't hurt except for the last view, maybe my weight loss has made my boobs less dense. They measured my height for the bone density and said I was 5 feet and 1/2 inch. I guess I can't say I'm 5'2" anymore. After the testing I went to Walmart for a few things, didn't even look at the garden center. When I got home I had some couch time, DH was out and about. We had grilled chicken for dinner with mac and cheese, broccoli, and cucumber salad. After dinner I watched Emily in Paris and stitched on the NY Jets ornament. I was in bed a little after 11, was able to fall asleep fairly easily but had weird dreams.
It's another sunny day. The HVAC people are here. My bone density results are posted, it's normal with increased density in the spine, and decreased in the femur. My PCP has already commented on it. I'll probably do a walking video in the basement, although I could probably go walk without DH.
Jan- WTG steps, stretches, tracking, feeling inspired by the back to school season. Sorry about the yarn mess. The turquoise water in your pics was amazing. That was indeed Bill and Sookie in the pic yesterday. My new tomato plants are 2-3 feet tall, one came with a tomato and blossoms on it. I think my winter squash are going to be a bust. I had 2 delicata, but something has eaten them. I've had a lot of male blooms, but no other fruit.
Murphy- Glad you had a good day yesterday. Thanks for getting us started. WTG for 30+ days AF!!! Have a lovely visit with DB today, hope he likes the Kindle. Silver Sneakers sounds fun. I do have some more small ears on the corn, hopefully they are big enough to eat.
Vicki- Yay for your back not hurting. Hope all goes smoothly with DD's moving, yay for fun with Rylee.

Hi all. Back from WW and lost last weeks gain. -1.4 I had my breakfast and now figuring out what I want to do. 2 neighbors are both having trees taken down, not sure if they planned that, different color trucks so maybe one is the city and one private. All I know is it's noisy and I plan to go somewhere else to walk. Will probably do the thrift store, then Walmart. If I can do enough laps in there I can avoid the steamy heat outside. DH is messing in the basement where it's cooler. Bought myself a huge magenta bunch of Glads yesterday from the clearance bucket at the grocery, $1.75. A much more WW friendly treat There are probably at least a dozen stems in full bloom, I had to find a bigger vase to hold them! Our WW meeting was good, also picked up two recipe cards for 0 point salads. A Green Goddess garden salad, which I would probably leave the mint out of the dressing, and then the standard fresh corn and black bean salsa, that we eat more as a side dish. Weather is currently saying a strong storm is headed this way until a bit after 11, could be hail, strong winds. Guess I'll hang out a bit longer and go to the stores later. Hope you all have a great day and can stay cool. Jan Amy Glad the Dr appt went well. Any reason some density would be up and others down? Hmmm. Glad you were able to outsmart the Waze and find the hospital Hope the AC is fixed after today. Sorry the critters got your squash. I had some weird dreams too, I think it was the lightning strobe lite flashes for so long outside. You're not really awake but know something is going on and your brain does crazy things.

Hi All,
Another me post! The crash for my friend came last night....she drove two hours to get to my house....unannounced! She and her daughter live on the same property...39 acres but they are less than a 15 minute walk from houses. I have to admit to being tired, probably more emotionally but I have my infusion tomorrow and I am stressed already for the drive. She left about 7:30 pm. today. I think that DS and his boss/friend were not conducive to her staying though they were very nice and his boss/friend order in food. She is home safely.
Opinion shopping! I have a great niece and nephew. My one living nephew is their father. Over the years I have given them monetary gifts for special birthdays, graduations. Never got a thank you, so be it. Recently I received a thank you from my great nephew...he is (thankfully) leaving home and going off to college. My great niece has graduated and done all the extra certificates to become a music teacher. I received a nice thank you note from her thanking me for supporting her. My question is why? I'm sure you can all figure where my mind is going or am I being too cynical. DS's friends are more than family not just to him but also to me. Appreciate input.
Apologizes for not doing personal but the fake it till I make it ain't working. Some day I will learn the week before the infusion is a mixed bag.
Hugs to all and will do better, Cindy
