Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my âflawsâ have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iâm alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I drove to the nature trail to walk as the golf cart is still acting up. When we got back I picked green beans and decided I had enough to do some canning. I watched a couple of YouTube videos to make sure I knew what I was doing and DH was involved as well. I thought I was going to have 5 pints, but the fifth jar wasn't full, so I didn't process that. It was fun and not that difficult. I tasted the last jar around dinner time to check the taste, the seasoning seemed pretty good. They were a little crunchy for my taste, but the processed jars will be more cooked since they were under heat and pressure for quite a while. I had some couch time in the afternoon but did not nap or even lie down. We had pulled chicken sandwiches for dinner, with chips and dip, and cucumber salad. After dinner I watched Emily in Paris, then a Hallmark movie. I was in bed before 11, but then had trouble falling asleep, doing a lot of tossing and turning.
It's another sunny day. We had some thunder and lightening last night, but no rain. The golf cart people are coming to pick up the golf cart this afternoon. There's a garage sale I want to check out, then we'll go the park and farmer's market. I never got around to messing with the Shark, maybe later today.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, tracking, AF. Yay for knitting and lunch with friends. Have a wonderful time at the cabin, yay for the cousin bringing lots of stuff to eat. I have 2 coleus in the basement that are about 3 years old, very leggy and ugly. I keep them alive to take cuttings off of.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG working your to-do list. Hope you enjoyed your chili and your fall decor.
Cindy- Looking forward to hearing about your odd days.
Cathy- Yay for fun with friends, sorry the scale is not being nice.

M-W Word of the Day
mise-en-scène noun | meez-ahn-SEN What It Means Mise-en-scène can refer to the setting of a play, movie, etc., or it can refer to the physical or social setting in which something real occurs or develops. // The mise-en-scène is spare, comprising only a table and two chairs under a low-hanging light. // We fell in love with the blue skies and gorgeous architecture that form the mise-en-scène of this southern European city.

It's been a good day. I got my grocery pickup this morning and got that stuff put away. Then I got all of my fall stuff indoors put out. It looks pretty! I have the door closed and the AC going so I can pretend that it is cooler! LOL.
Amy - we are really needing rain as well. I think it is supposed to start raining tomorrow night and then there is a good chance of rain on Sunday. Yay for canning the green beans! I'm totally jealous! I didn't even get any beans frozen this summer. Maybe I still have time.
Jan - whenever you are able to check in - I hope you have a fabulous time at the cabin!! $200? Wow! I am glad that with my short cut I can do ok just going to Great Clips. Even that cost $20 + tip. The gal I had gone to for years is now up to $50 for a trim and getting mine trimmed very 5-6 weeks just put it out of my reach.
Nothing left to do today. Tomorrow I want to do a little cooking for freezer meals so that will keep me busy. Last time I did that, I made a Cottage Pie (like Shepard's Pie but with ground beef instead of lamb) and it was so good so I definitely want to do that again! I'll probably also make some pasta with sauce and maybe goulash.
Hi to any and all that follow! Have a great start to your holiday weekend! Murphy

Hi All! I hope my recounting of the last two days brings a smile! ANYWAY, Wednesday i had my infusionâŚ.traffic as always was strangeâŚ..watched a car go from the fast lane (left) and cut across to the slow lane to take an exitâŚ.hit the barrier but sorta, kinda, kept going. But before I was five miles from my house I get pulled over by a cop. DS is in the passenger seat because I'm trying to see if I can drive with my knee. I'm looking at DS as WTH?? So I pull over, two cops come up to the passenger side, ask for my license, my insurance card and then ask where are we going. Ummmm, why have you pulled me over and what business is it of yours as to where I am going??? So I ask politely what is the problem....I drove on the white solid line for about 20 seconds and I need to stay in the lane. Seriously?? So he says I'm giving you a warning and I had to ask, a written one? He didn't answer. His partner gives me a big smile and wave and they go back to their SUV. Umm can I get back on the road or am I suppose to wait for a written warning. Whatever, I pulled back on the road and I am annoyed. Was cop one training cop two or what?? Once at the infusion all was going fine and then as the foot rest is put down, the infusionist notices my right foot is swollen. It looked awful. The infusionist is thinking blood clotâŚ.what? The RA doc isnât in the office and infusionist wants to send me to the ER. ummm, no. I have no pain in my foot and have feeling, my leg feels fine and maybe Iâm a jerk but Iâm not going to the ER. DS and his Friend/boss are at the cafeteria so I text DS and they come up and say they will watch me and if it gets worse, they will bring me to our local sister hospital. So DS gets me home, his boss is at our house and I'm feeling like an idiotâŚ.I have no clue what has happened to my foot but earlier in the day when I was changing out the kinesiology bandages, I had an allergic reactionâŚ.blisters. That was something new and painful. So Thursday morning my foot is still swollen. Can't find any sign of a sting or any thing. At least the toes donât look like little attachments. Never any pain or lack of function. So Thursday afternoon, Ainsely has her appointment with the Vet. A couple months late for her geriatric appointment but as we are going a car has crashed, lanes are blocked and I canât get through. We had a freak thunderstorm. Finally was able to turn around and take the back way. I know I am running late but not by much. I get there six minutes late and the desk person says I tried to call you and reschedule but let me see what I can do. WHAT?? I look at her call on my phone and I was in the parking lot when she called. So after a bit we get called in. Ainsley has peed in her carrier, she is not happy. The tech is not niceâŚasks me If I gave her gabapentinâŚ.no, she doesnât do well with it. And THEN she tells us we will see how we can do because your cat is violentâŚ.I'm busy petting her and DS looks at her with the WTFâŚ.fill in the letters. Based on what? Two years ago a tech had put on the report that she was truculentâŚ..seriouslyâŚ..now violent. How about you do your job and respect my little baby girl. And I get a lecture about treats versus dry food. Thank you, Iâm not stupid. Any way, another tech comes in and says we are going to see what we can do but at least she says it nicely. She got her rabies shot and they were not able to do a blood panel. That saved me two hundred dollars. She is bright eyed and bushy tailed though obese. Finally the Vet comes to talk to us. Ainsley has lost two pounds!!!! and she is pleased about thatâŚkeep doing what we are doingâŚ.donât stress her out with cutting back on food too much. Okay. I like the Vet, have seen her before, and as we are finishing up I thank her for squeezing us in. She looks at me like what?? I tell her that I got a text and the front desk said that they could not keep the appointment but would have to reschedule. The Vet knew nothing about it and I could tell she was not happy about it. They are open till 7 pm. I really like the Vet but the technicians are a revolving door. I have given lots of thought to changing vets but I do like the Vet that we see. There are like seven in the practice and I truly believe several are more interested in taking care of dogs but they do have a calming room for cats which I think is nice and our Vet does not push my baby girl. I am suppose to get her back in for blood work but we shall see. While at the Vet's DS gets two calls, answers the second call from same number...it is the post office...they are trying to deliver a package. Does he have a neighbor that can sign for it??? Hunh? He can get it at the post office tomorrow. Nope they want to deliver it.....so DS suggests my neighbor's Mom and maybe she is there and can sign for it. She wasn't but the new husband was and signed for it. Seriously?? What is the deal with that? We don't have a full moon! Once home, Ainsely is okay and she goes off to her litter box. Hour later, where is she? Shaking a treat bag, looking in all the obvious place and finally find that she ha squeezed herself under the night stand. I can barely see a bit of fur. But at least I kow where she is. I put a little bowl of treats near her so maybe she will come out. Eventually she does. So this morning (I figured it out that it is Friday (lol) I cannot sleep. It is 1:00 AM. I try some chamomile tea, I make a small sandwich, I try to sleep again, nope, I'm watching Candice Renoir till 5 AM, catching up on my French. Today was pretty much of a waste. I am remaking a Halloween costume of mine for friend/girl. I bought it at Hot Topic years ago. F/G is barely five feet tall and I am remaking it so it can be a Renaissance gown. Lots of black velvet. Trying to decide if I should shorten it in front and leave the back as a train?? Guess I will let her make the decision. I'm not sure when the Renaissance Fair is here but we definitely have one each year. I might have to update DS's costume if he plans to go in costume. One of his former bosses paid for tickets for all plus one as long as they showed in festival gear. I had something else but it was is a DUH. Hugs to all, Cindy

Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <167.2>
It seems this month has been a stable one weight-wise and not a downward trend type challenge...oh well...
Yesterday was a quiet day at home. This afternoon I will pick Rosalie up, we will check out an outlet sale and probably find nothing much if anything that tempts us, go for iced coffee, and play cards. We missed out on our usual chat for the week as we had an extra person in the car with us this week on the way to and from Tripoli. Finished laundry yesterday and did a few kitchen chores. Nothing exciting to share.
Hope all have fun plans for the weekend. I won't talk to our daughter with my husband at the usual time because I will be out and about with my friend...perhaps we can catch up later.
