Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all and Happy September! I'm up and ready for church. No big plans for the day. I am officially on Medicare now! LOL. Well Humana Medicare Replacement but still! I do need to print off my new cards this afternoon. I might make a trip to Aldi. I'm kind of craving a hot dog for Labor Day! LOL. Anyway - everyone have a great day and I'll check in when I get back home. Murphy

I had a quiet day yesterday, missed some of my hourly steps b/c I wasn't paying attention to it. I watched several episodes of Big Brother, bits and pieces of Hallmark movies. I got the laundry folded and put away and got the robot vacuum set up. We had grilled pork chops for dinner, with leftover potato salad, corn, cucumber salad, and I opened one of the jars of green beans I canned last week to see how they turned out. They were yummy and I'll probably put some onion in the next batch. After dinner I watched The Age of Adeline since Roku has been bugging me about it. It seemed familiar like I had seen it before, but I still enjoyed it. I had some trouble falling asleep so I read longer than usual.
It's partly cloudy, hoping we get some rain this afternoon. It's already in the mid-70's, so need to get out to walk sooner than later and the porch plants need watering. I've got the robot vacuum going and sheets in the washer, so at least a couple of things will get done today.
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!
Liz- So sorry about the vertigo attack, hope you are feeling better. Enjoy your Labor Day BBQ.
Cindy- Yay for getting a little rain and doing some icing. Does DS feel like he has a problem with gambling? I've grown all the elements for salsa this year (except onions), but unfortunately it's too hot for the cilantro when the jalapenos and tomatoes are ripe. I've been freezing some of the jalapenos for later use.
Cathy- Yay for fun with Rosalie and finding the pretty T-shirt. You are lucky to have a close friend. Glad you were able to talk to your daughter. It is indeed Labor Day weekend here.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Welcome to Medicare! I like hot dogs too, don't have them that often. DH bought turkey hot dogs BOGO at Publix, but they're still loaded with chemicals.

M-W Word of the Day
skirl verb | SKERL What It Means Skirl means "to play the bagpipes" when the subject of the sentence is a person, as in "the piper skirled." When bagpipes are the subject (as in "the bagpipes skirled"), skirl means "to emit the high shrill tone of the chanter," with chanter referring to the reed pipe on which the bagpipe's melody is played. // The attention of the parade-goers was fully captured the instant the bagpipers began skirling.

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit. Just a fly by. Haven't been getting many steps, but many hours in the boat and enjoying the sun. Cooler and windy today but we did some chores around the cabin. Been AF and looking forward to the next challenge. My cousins will leave tomorrow and I will decide how long to stay. I was going to do the flea on Saturday and now we saw the weather, Lows in the 40's overnight on Friday and high of 58 on Saturday. I'm too much a baby to sit out at the market in 40 degrees on Saturday morning to make 20$. It will all still be here next spring for the June market if I don't go. Then I would probably get home Thursday to go to knitting. DH just called a bit ago because he says there's a BAT in the kitchen!!!! Yikes. I said go get the neighbor to help get it out. Who knows where it came from but I hope he's alone!! Told him I wouldn't have been much help at home but hope they can figure something out. Yikes. Hope you all have had a great day, Happy new month. I will try to get to some real wifi here in the next day or two to see the new challenge and get checked in. Jan

Hi All!
Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit!
I will get the new challenge up but not sure if it will be late night tomorrow or early morning Tuesday so please look for it!
Been a lazy day...sorted through lots of paper work. I bought some file folders from Amazon because searching for file folders in my office isn't worth it. I have to be careful with Ainsley loving to chew on anything that has a coating. Trying to get rid of cookbooks and recipes I have and realistically will never make. And yet I still download new recipes, lol.
Murphy, thanks for getting us going. Congrats on being on Medicare! Sometimes hotdogs just hit the spot. I made some potato salad for tomorrow and have burgers ready to go.
Amy, I hope you had some rain today. We keep being told we are going to get some but tomorrow will definitely need to soak some plants. Glad the green beans turned out so well. Enjoy the Robot! DS doesn't have a problem with gambling, he just feels it is a waste of money. He much rather spend money on car parts. He is part of a fantasy football league that plays for bragging rights. I tried getting cilantro going in a raised bed but it didn't work this year. My green onions are doing well. I love the sound of bagpipes.
Carole, enjoy the big fest tonight and hope you win at Bingo! How warm is it in your area?
Cathy, sounds like a very nice day with Rosalie. Hope you had a chance to talk with family!
GG, the tea party with Rylee is adorable! Did you have your own fascinator?
Liz, looking forward to you being with us this next challenge. Hope you are feeling better!
Jan, glad you could check in! Your weather is getting chilly! Glad you had a good time on the boat! Yikes about the bat! Hope DH with neighbor can get it out of the house! Are Finn and Scout chasing it?
Just finished the USC game against LSU. DH went to USC so we keep rooting for them.
Hugs to all,Cindy

September 2: 166.6 Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <166.6> Not much to show for the challenge BUT am at least a bit lower than the first day that I weighed.
Talked to our son and his family last night, finished and reviewed a book, had healthy OP food, etc. Today we may run errands, shop, go to the ATM..but first...Mounah needs to (probably) take the car to the mechanic because it is leaking fluid (again) and it might be the transmission fluid. Don't want to go out and about and have it run dry! Nothing on the agenda, so far, except cards one afternoon in Tripoli
Glad you all are doing well. Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!
