Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all and Happy Labor Day! After church yesterday, I made a quick trip to Aldi and then took a nap! Good thing I didn't have much planned for the day because I felt like a slug when I woke up! I have several things planned around the house today. I want to get my outside fall stuff put out. Going to have breakfast and will be back later! Murphy

DH & I walked up the hill to walk the neighborhood yesterday morning. When we got back & puttered outside, watering, planted peas, cleaning up flower beds, etc. When I was done I showered, put my jammies on, had lunch and couch time. DH made meatballs for dinner and we had enough to freeze for 2 future meals. After dinner I watched a Hallmark movie and stitched, finishing the stitching on a NY Jets flyswatter and worked on tissue box cover. I was in bed before midnight and slept well, even though Sookie decided to share the bed.
It's cloudy this morning, just moving into the 70's. The pool will be chilly this morning.
Carole- Yay for beautiful weather, bike ride, walking, meeting friends at fest. We haven't heard from the golf cart company yet.
Jan- Yay for boating, enjoying time at cabin. Sorry it was too cold for the market and hope DH got the bat out of the kitchen with a minimum of trouble.
Cindy- WTG going through paper work. Sookie likes things with a coating and tape also. I'm looking forward to the new challenge.
Cathy- WTG for ending the challenge with the scale down, finishing/reviewing book. Glad you were able to talk to your son and family. Sorry about the issue causing the car to leak fluid.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Hope you are feeling more energetic today.

M-W Word of the Day
incandescent adjective | in-kun-DESS-unt What It Means Incandescent has literal and figurative meanings. Its literal meanings relate to heat and light; it describes something that is white or glowing because of great heat, and also something (like a light bulb) that produces bright light when heated. In figurative use, incandescent relates to several kinds of brilliance. Something or someone described as incandescent can be very impressive, successful, or intelligent, or simply happy and lively. In British English, incandescent can also describe someone or something feeling or showing great anger. // The invention of the incandescent bulb in the 19th century ushered in the age of electric lighting. // However much we were inclined to dislike her, it was hard not to be charmed by her incandescent smile and wit.

Hi friends! We didn’t win at bingo👎🏻my friends DH did, $307!! Not bad! DH and I played pickleball this morning! I lost all 3 games but we had fun In my infinite wisdom I signed up for a Hyrox competition in Vegas! It’s February 1. Our camp starts tomorrow. It’s early to start training but with my gym closed it’ll be good conditioning. We’re using another gym for camp until Elevate is open. I need to get BOT. This may give you a clue, I had M&M pancakes for breakfast!
Amy, it’s chilly here, I can’t imagine getting into a pool!

Hi girls. I can’t believe how tired I was after having Rylee. I think it was just being ON all the time. Saturday I never even got dressed, but I did get my steps in by walking when DD called. I feel for her. She’s got so much on her plate right now, plus she has Rylee’s sniffles. Another month and the worst will be over. Tomorrow is Rylees first day of school. She’s ready! I woke up Saturday morning with a toothache. Tylenol has been helping, but I need to go in town to get some anbesol or something. I’ll be calling the dentist tomorrow! I got some sad news yesterday. Our choir director is retiring. He had prostrate cancer and the treatment totally wiped him out. We have an elderly choir anyways, and younger people haven’t joined. The only positive is that I won’t be out 3 nights in a row. Our church is sponsoring a Christian School that started in our Sunday School building this year. I was asked if I would teach their 4-5 graders how to play the bells for their music class. They will supply the materials and it will only be a half hour class once a week for 2 quarters. As a volunteer, I don’t have to have a degree. I’m looking forward to it. I’ve also been practicing for the wedding I’m playing for in October. I found a simple, but very pretty rendition of I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You for the bride to walk down the aisle. That’s the only thing she wanted, I can choose the rest. It feels food to spend more time at the piano! Oh, and my switch moved to off again. Probably because of having more goodies at the house. I’ll weigh tomorrow. Seeing it jump usually helps. 🤦🏼‍♀️ whatever, I’m not giving up! I’ve even had the thought of drinking since I’m off track anyways. WHAT??? It’s crazy how those thoughts come in! There’s no way I’m going there again!
Murphy: Thanks for starting us each day. Do you know the name of the counselor you want to see? I hope it’s a seamless transition to Medicare! I don’t think most of our choir knows it’s not starting up again. You can imagine how sad they will be!
Jan: WE go from those hot and humid days to fall just like that! It’s a beautiful day here today. I wish I could get some super glue and keep my switch on! A BAT!
Amy: Congratulations on your weight loss! You’ve done so well! DH has some potted cucumber plants that are climbing up a string under his carport. He said he has baby cukes!
Cindy: Yes, I got my hat as a favor from the Kentucky Derby table at a calendar party! Rylee loved that I was wearing it! She had lemonade in her teapot. She really enjoyed it! I hope to take both granddaughters and their mothers at some point! I must say I agree with DS on gambling!
Carole: I know you are enjoying your long weekend!
Liz: I hope your PC has some answers for you and that you are feeling better!
Cathy: I hope your non holiday weekend was a good one! Maintenance is good!

Been a good day. I got my outside decorations up and everything cleaned up. Made a little bowl of slaw since I forgot to get any when I was at Aldi yesterday. Thought that would go well with my hot dog for supper. Got my house cleaning done and I'm making a loaf of banana bread to take to my brother tomorrow.
Amy - Yay for DH cooking and stocking the freezer! Your fresh green beans sounded so good!
Carole - yay for signing up for Hydrox! You are a beast girl!! I got my Silver Sneakers card printed off and I plan to go check out the gym on Weds morning. There is another gym that is even closer to me that I might check out as well. I don't think they have quite as much but I'll go to check it out at some point. I'm proud of myself that I've been doing my stepper and resistance bands every day.
Cindy - has the weather broken for you? Looking forward to the new challenge.
Liz - I hate that you had the vertigo spell! I hope your doctor can figure out what is going on. I am so glad that family was available to help get you home!
Cathy - Have fun at cards today!
GG- I'm sorry about the choir! Hopefully someone will step in to that position. I think everything will be fine with the switch to Humana. I've checked and my GP, dentist and eye doctor are all in network.
I will check in the morning before I head to my brother's for the new challenge or will check in when I can. Everyone have a great rest of your day! Murphy

Hi all, just checking in from the library parking lot All my company left and then sis came out for a bit. I would have stayed home but crazy story. An old friend of the family contacted sis through FB. They are the kids of my dad's good friend and we did spend time together as kids and they would come to the cabin with us. David and his sister were staying at a resort right up north from us for the weekend and wondered who'd be around for the long weekend and asked if they could come by just to reminisce and see the old places. They went back and forth with sis who luckily gave us a heads up at least before saying yes. She didn't hear back, then got a text that showed the time 2:15 AM from last night. She finally said we'd be there until early afternoon, cousins left by 10, but no word. She had called the hotel, his phone and never got a response. I said I wasnt hanging around to wait and then have to entertain by myself, and thought it rude to not respond. SO I guess I'm hiding out here for awhile and fingers crossed they don't just Show up later. My plan is to go to WW up here in the morning and hopefully get to check in with the new challenge. I will get stats and all caught up when I get home. Eating has been better, AF while here, not as many steps but I can dance around today when I get home, or stop at the beach on the way home and walk around the loop where the campers are. Good news from DH is the neighbor caught the bat in a bucket and net and then took it outside somewhere. It was lucky because it was just sleeping hanging upside down on the cupboard. Weird. Have to see if there has been any more news from home. wondered if it should have been tested instead of just left go but....oops too late. Of course today is a beautiful warm sunny day that would have been perfect for the boat, but glad I got in the time I did. Hope you are all having a nice holiday and we will be ready for the new challenge. Jan Murphy Enjoy you holiday meal. Bet you house smells good from making the banana bread!! Yay for doing the stepper and bands. Have fun exploring the new gym. GG Sounds like a fun week of camp and glad now you can get back to your routine. Sorry to hear about choir. Hope Rylee enjoys being back at school. Did the switch go back off today? Cathy Glad the scale ended on a downward note. I think mine was about a pound or so less than I started too. It's something. Glad you have a good friend nearby to spend time with. Cindy Hope you get some rain soon. I had to water today at the cabin. I dont have a lot left blooming thanks to the deer but at least some of the hanging baskets are still going. The Hummers are still coming so like the flowers there when the feeder gets emptied while I'm gone. Hope Ainsley is back to her normal self. Amy Glad your beans turned out and you are still working the garden. BRr, not sure I could have gotten in the pool, I wasn't sure if they'd have class today. Is it unusual for Sookie to come to bed? You are going to hit the 140's by the end of the year!!! whee. Carole MM pancakes, yum! GL with the new Hydrox, at least you get to go to Vegas, I'll bet DH is happy about that and want to go with Liz Hope the vertigo has past and you are enjoying your holiday cook out at DD. Hugs Waving hi. Guess I need to be brave and head back home soon.
