Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all! Had a good day with DB. He was doing well and we went to the grocery store and he walked up and down every aisle! He was in a talking mood so I didn't have time to get back on the computer. I slept well and have had my devotions and I'm going to head to the gym for my first visit in a little bit! Murphy

Yoga was good, although crowded. The instructor did a good job with a crowded room and mixed level of abilities. There were a few that did most of it in a chair. When I got back we drove back to the clubhouse to walk. While I was gone DH mowed the yard so I puttered in the yard, picked green beans and tomatoes, deadheaded the garden beds. The weather was gorgeous, cooler less humid, nice breeze. Then lunch and couch time. We had dinner early, broccoli soup and grilled cheese, so that we could go to an HOA meeting at 6. I indulged in the cookies they served. After dinner I watched the GOT sequel and finished stitching on the Jets tissues box cover. I had trouble falling asleep, so read more. I'll be dragging later today.
It's a pretty, sunny morning, cooler than yesterday, in the mid-60's. This will be my last water aerobics class this year.
Vicki- Sorry about the gum problem that needs to heal before your toothache is dealt with.
Jan- Sorry you lost your post.
Cindy- WTG getting stuff done.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you had a good day with your brother. WTG going to the gym.

Final weigh in: Good morning everyone! Yesterday was an AF day but I didn't start tracking my calories and didn't move too much. I jumped in yesterday and hoping I can follow through. I am still having an equilibrium problem; it is not as severe when it began last week but just not feeling 100%, it feels like I am a little heavy headed and not completely steady. I finally got an appointment with my PC tomorrow, hoping there is more out there for vertigo since I last had it 20 years ago. Not much planned for today since I am still not driving and will kind of lay low and just do some knitting today. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

I did it! I went to the gym! I only rode the bike today as I was getting the tour and getting my account all set up. The basic membership is free or I can pay $15 a month for an upgrade that includes the massage chairs, tanning, ability to bring a guest and other stuff. I just signed up with the basic for now but I might try to work it out to upgrade. We'll see!
Amy - our temps have cooled off as well and I love it!
Liz - when I had my one and only episode of vertigo last year, the doctor gave me a prescription for Meclizine. I only had to take 1 pill for 3 days. I don't know that it works for everyone but it did for me! I made the mistake of commenting on FB about having the vertigo and just asked for prayer and I had over 150 responses not for prayer but with "instructions" of what to do! Eat, don't eat, water, no water, get my ear crystals aligned, etc... It was crazy! I'm glad you are able to get in with your doctor tomorrow.
I go to my GP tomorrow for my 6 month check in. Shouldn't be a long visit, just need to get prescriptions transferred over to the new mail order pharmacy. Scheduled my first appointment with the counselor. I'm still doing good. Have had a few moments of feeling kind of "nostalgic" for that numb feeling but able to squash those and remember the bad stuff that always comes afterward! Anyway, I have choir rehearsal tonight. Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Murphy

Well here is your "funny" for the day. Even though all I did at the gym was the recumbent bike, apparently I pulled a muscle in my butt! One cheek is sore and it's hard to get up or down. LOL. I suspected that nothing good would come from exercise!

Start weight September 3: 195 cabin September 10: September 17: September24: October 1: October 8: October 15: October 22: October 28 Happy Halloween! Final weigh in: Hi all. Let's see if I can get this one through So, didn't end up going to WW yesterday as sis wanted to go up north and then have today to get her head on for work tomorrow after a week off. She has 18 days until retirement and is getting excited. We went to Hobby Lobby, I bought a little gnome kit to needle felt. Figured when I see the directions I can make a few more on my own. We ran other errands, she treated me to lunch, which was nice, and when we got home I was tired and took a little nap. I had wanted to make some banana muffins to use up some things but ended up bringing everything home and will get to them today or tomorrow. It's just with Kodiak Cake, ripe bananas and a few other ingredients, should be quick to whip up. I brought a lot of food home from the fridge, freezer and shelves and now to make room and start eating what we have here. Left just enough basics for another trip in a couple weeks, maybe my brother will get up again and then it will be closing. The summer just goes so fast, but we all made good memories and had fun. Now to get caught up on all the things that need to be done here. I have about a week to get busy and then my friend comes and we head to the reunion. Tomorrow will be knitting and seeing friends. A hat I started last week I tore all back as I was trying to do it in the round and it was written as a flat pattern, it just wasn't matching up the way it should. I restarted and will just have to sew it up at the end like it's called for. Guess I better go, trying to ease into "reality" and will be able to think better in the morning when I'm back on my routine. See what the WI says here in the morning as the cabin scale can be all over the place. Have a great evening all. Jan Cindy Love the challenge, will work hard to be Boo-tiful by the end of October Murphy Glad your brother had a good day. Yay for trying the gym, I had to chuckle about pulling the butt muscle Hope it feels better soon. Amy Will the yoga continue or was it just a fun thing? Hope the pool wasn't too cold this morning. We were getting chilly up north and that's why I decided to not do the flea on Saturday. I'm not brave enough to sit outside at 7:30 am when it's in the mid 40's still. Figure there wouldn't be a lot of shoppers either. Sounds like you are building up your inventory for the fall sale. Looks like most of you naughty girls will be in the nursing home together GG Hope your gum feels better soon. How was Rylee's start of school? Liz Yay for checking in and getting onboard. Hope the Dr can give you something for the vertigo/feelings. Cathy Glad you could go see friends. Stay safe. hi to all
