HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!

September 3 - October 31

The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.

As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.

For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.

This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.

So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!

THE EIGHT GOOD HEALTH GUIDELINES
1. Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits each day.
2. Choose whole-grain foods, such as brown rice and oats, whenever possible.
3. Include two servings of milk products – low fat (1%) or fat-free – each day.
4. Have some healthy oil (olive oil, canola, sunflower, safflower or flaxseed each day.
5. Ensure that you are getting enough protein by choosing at least a serving or two of meat, poultry, fish, eggs or dried beans each day. Many dairy products are also good sources of protein.
6. Limit added sugar and alcohol.
7. Drink at least 6 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
8. Take a multiple vitamin-mineral supplement each day.

Morning all. I got the shingles shot at the doctor's office yesterday. They told me to take some Tylenol when I got home and I forgot. So I woke up at 2:00 with a very sore arm and a raging headache. I'm waiting for Tylenol to kick in now. I don't know what I will do today. Will check back later.

Happy Halloween! Final weigh in:

Good morning all. A bit off my routine but all good. Had to wait for my coffee until after I went for my blood draw. I got there by 7:30 and got right in, did see they open at 7 even tho the website said 7:30. Good to know for another time. Came home and made my banana muffins and now just sitting and catching up with my coffee and quiet. Dh was down here with the TV on and he, thankfully, gave up on all the junk and turned it off and went upstairs My clean basket of towels from the cabin now have a cat sleeping on them so that will be a do over before I take them back up north. Yesterday at knitting I showed the girls a few fun projects I keep seeing but are crochet, they are convinced they can teach me how to crochet and I'm to bring a hook next week to "learn". I told them to be prepared for tears as I've tried a few times and just can't get that rhythm down and it all sounds like foreign language to me. We'll see. Then with all my blabbing I messed up my hat a bit, just a row where I joined it in the round when I was supposed to be knitting it flat. Ripped that out last night, fixed it and also cast on an easy chunky hat that will be in our sale. I also want to look on Pintrest and find some easy cat and dog toys to make as I think those things would sell as fillers maybe. Not sure what the rest of my day will look like. DH wants to take the van out, get it cleaned up, empty the water/bathroom tanks. We have to find where the city dump spot is. Saw where the football game is on Peacock tonight. Luckily our local market will carry it on NBC or there would probably be a riot in town. Had all the pay stations that now need to make more money, even on sports. Better get moving, still need to figure out a breakfast, get some steps for the hour and then do some chores. have a great Friday all. Jan

Cathy You have a busy week coming up for sure. You are probably lucky that you don't even have to worry about TV, it's become such a racket with all the streaming and too many choices. We only have You tube tv, and that's our son's we share, so I never see any of these programs the girls talk about either. Guess I'll just stick with my books too

Murphy Sorry the shingles shot is now so painful. I've heard that from so many people, probably why I keep putting it off Did you get all your Fall decorations out? When I go up to the cabin at the end of the month I will stop by the pumpkin farm up there and stock up.

Carole Hope the day goes quickly in the kitchen and then you can enjoy your weekend. When will you close the pool? Is DH still mostly just working from home? How is Ty liking his job?

Cindy Glad you came up from the rabbit hole. I found a little VIm hanging out with friends, but no Vigor, so the nap called when I got home KC pulled out a lucky one, some crazy calls and that last play sure looked like a touchdown, alas, the toe! Love Cathy's idea of just adding a little glitter to you tear, and hope the gel pad for your knee is a better support and gives you some relief. Our friend Peggy seems to be doing pretty well right now. Is sporting her short "grow back" hair without the kerchief anymore and that's good. She has been coming each week to knitting and joining us for lunch.

Liz Hope the meds are making you feel better. Can't wait to see a picture of the baby(not so much a baby anymore) sweater. Has Isabel started her school yet? How does she like it?

Amy Glad I went back to read yesterday's posts and so you just posted, because again, posting at the same time. Glad you got to sleep in a bit. I was expecting you to say you stayed up to finish The Women, it surely sucks you in! Glad aerobics was fun I think that's kind of what I do to get my AP at home, dance around to music, do arm exercises etc. Someone at knitting was wondering if anyone ever saw a canvas kleenex box pattern that opens on the side, she said for Puffs boxes that don't open with the hole in the top. Some of the ladies have been doing plastic canvas at knitting. Yay for avoiding the bees! Do you read on a Kindle or actual book? Have fun with the kids tonight.

I'm dosed up on Tylenol and feel some better. I took a 2 hour nap. I feel like I've been worthless today! I had plans to go to the gym but I just am not up to it. I feel better that at least I'm not paying for the membership! This was the 2nd shingles shot so at least I don't have another one to dread. I think it is still better than getting shingles though! I did get my sheets washed and got the bed made up so that's good. Sorry for the lack of personals. I'm just a slug! Everyone have a great day!

Hi All!

TGIF! Still think of the weekend as having time off. But with that said I have a list of tasks for tomorrow. Let's see if the motivation will be there in the morning. We did get some rain drops today but not enough to have the plants perk up. Back to watering tomorrow.

Murphy, hope you are feeling better from the shingles Vax. I keep putting the shot(s) off. You are doing so well! Sometimes being a slug is a wonderful thing...me being a fellow slug. When we lived in Mississippi there was a slugfest every summer....slug burgers, slug drinks, and the slug T shirt! Thankfully the slugburger was a deep-fried patty made from ground meat with pickles and mustard on a bun. I just thought a slug was a bug! Learned that slug was a nickel during the Great Depression. TMI? Hope you sleep well tonight.

Amy, thank you for giving me a better description of what the surgery would entail and I know I just can't handle it this year. If I mentioned it to my eye surgeon he would have me in the chair immediately, lol. Glad you can work your injection to a new schedule. Glad you were able to avoid the bees. We are having problems with wasps making nests, need to make sure the nests get knocked out before they get too big, especially near doors. I did a lousy job making a roast but with the beef sliced thinly, it made a decent stroganoff. Hope you had a wonderful evening and sleep well. Hope we both stay out of the rabbit holes.

Jan, know the feeling of having the cat take over the fresh laundry. Good luck with the crocheting. I can do basic knitting but crocheting and me never got along. I gave a friend of mine all my yarn leftover from my Mom and we are looking at 25 years old but she made me a beautiful crochet blanket using the yarn with other yarns she had. It is nice to have my Mom's yarn mixed in. I hope you can master the skill! We couldn't get the game and guess it was a good game. I've canceled Apple and Disney Plus. Just wasn't watching enough of it though miss a few shows. Love my BritBox so stick with that. Still debating about the NBA channel. Saw they were offering a plan for your team of choice. Vicki, I kinda sorta offered. The fair isn't till next year so we will see if it comes off. I think you asked about whether DS is sending mixed signals. He is very clear that he sees her as a friend. He was able to convince her to see a doctor and she was put on antidepressants. He then convinced her to see a counselor who is monitoring the antidepressants. She is Hispanic and her culture frowns on on getting help. Frequently a healer is used instead of a doctor. So glad your Y group noticed you missing! Glad you had alone time with DS. Cathy, I sometimes get hooked on cooking shows. A reprieve from news, lol. Sounds like you have a busy schedule with friends. I have a Kindle Unlimited account and read a lot which is better for my soul.

Carole, what is going for the weekend? Hope the gym opening gets on track.

Looked at the clock so I guess an early bedtime isn't happening but heading there now. Need to get Sudoku done and then sleep!
