Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it wonât be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you donât give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good Sunday morning all! Still having some trouble with the fibro. My joints just feel locked up and it's difficult to move. I did get on the stepper and did my resistance bands so maybe I'll loosen up after while. I'm cleaned up and ready to head to church later. Everyone have a great morning! Murphy

Not much happened after posting here yesterday. Lots of couch time, put some stuff in the new console. DH grilled some salmon for dinner and wanted scalloped potatoes with it. I also made a cucumber, onion, tomato salad and opened a jar of peach salsa. After dinner I watched House of the Dragon, finishing season 1 and finished an IU ornament. I started a new book and read longer than I had planned, mainly b/c the chapters are long.
It's a sunny, pretty day and it was still in the 50's when I got up. It's not even supposed to get into the 80's today, so it should be a lovely morning for a walk.
Jan- Glad you had a good day, sorry you couldn't watch the games you wanted. WTG making fun where you can. For net carbs, I subtract my fiber intake from the total carbs. I just use worsted yarn for the potholders and a G hook, but any yarn would work. You might have to use a smaller hook and chain on more stitches for cotton yarn. I saw a few tissue box holders on Pinterest when I search for Puffs tissue box covers. GL with your Me360.
Cathy- Yay for the scale being down and being able to talk to your daughter. Enjoy your outing to Rosemary's.
Liz- Glad the vertigo has subsided with the meclizine. Hope you had a nice time with Michael.
Cindy- Somehow I managed to not actually type my post to you yesterday. I tend to consider weekends as time off as well. We have a lot of wasps here too. They keep making nests under the screened in porch, doorways, etc. They also like the green bean blossoms and the hummingbird feeder. Luckily they are not aggressive. We share some of our son's subscriptions, Apple from Chris, Hulu from Cory. They tend to cycle through their subscriptions, watching what they want, then cancelling. Cory shares our Peacock. I'm sure the providers will stop the sharing eventually.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Hope you have a nice Sunday and the fibro settles down.

Up this morning, having coffee and feeling pretty good about my Trifecta yesterday Not as sunny today and not sure of any plan but will enjoy and probably watch some more football. Was brave when I went up to get dressed and did my Me360 measurements. The scale says I didn't lose in August, but measurements went down a bit and some stayed the same. Happy with that. My Commit journal has a place every week where you write what you will commit to or focus on. This week I wrote courage, one of my yearly words. The courage to spend a week with my friend, who likes to talk , courage to face our class reunion and remain AF, courage to stay at our friends house and not feel stressed about it, and courage to leave my routine and still make good choices. Seems like enough to focus on! Today I need to look in the freezer and find something friendly for dinner. I have LO tuna and veggies I can have for lunch, also need to cook up some green beans I got at the farm stand. That's about all the excitement from around here on a Sunday. Hope you all have a great day. Jan Murphy Thanks for starting us. Hope the joints loosen up as the day progresses. Have a lovely day at church, are you singing today? Cathy Glad you could talk to DD. Have fun with your "Rosy" friends this week A pool day sounds lovely. Amy Thanks for the net carbs infor, if I subtract fiber my days don't look as bad Surprised your protein wasn't higher with the drink, bar and salmon. I will search for the tissue box pattern. Hope you get in a nice walk on a cool morning. I enjoyed walking at the park yesterday and of course because I didn't have my real camera the Bald Eagle was soaring all over the lake by the path. He's just too far up to get anything with the cell phone. Oh well, everything doesn't have to be recorded I suppose What book did you start? I just finished Crazy Rich Asians, I didn't want to see the movie until I read it. Fun, silly, but a good summer read. I keep meaning to go out at evening time to spray some wasps that are in the brick work of the house, hoping it will be when they've all come home to go to bed, but then I forget. Waving hi to all. Check in later.

Happy Halloween! Final weigh in:
Hello, hello, hello! Yesterday was an AIM/OP day. Friday night was my 55th high school reunion, and it was the first time that I ever attended one. My BFF and I went together (we have been BFFs for 62 years). At first we were hesitant to go but after attending, we were glad that we did. Out of over 400 graduates, we were a total of 80, about 90 had passed away and others either moved out of state or just didn't want to attend. There were some that you just looked at their face and not name tag that you absolutely recognized, and then there were some you looked at their face, then name tag, then looked a little more closely, and all of a sudden you say to yourself "ah there you are"! And then there were some that recognized us by the clique that we hung around with, and after saying hello, the first thing they asked is where is Sheila (the third of our triangle).
Yesterday I babysat Michael while DD & DSIL to Isabel out to lunch then the Circus. It was a long day, but he was an angel; he played on the floor and crawled around for about 3 1/2 hours then napped for about 2 hours. He was just so much fun. As much as I loved watching him, when I got home about 7:30, I was really pooped, lol! Isabel absolutely loved the circus! Today I am relaxing, knitting, and shooting for an AF day!
Amy~ Yay for the console bargain! Dusting, UGGH for me too, lol! Wow your morning temperatures are as low as ours up north, that is really surprising.
Jan~ Woohoo for the trifecta! I love your word "courage" and how many ways you are actually embracing it! When I am tracking, which I am now, I used My Fitness Pal which allows you to choose the macros you want to track and designated the allowance in that category in addition to you calorie allowance. I have one more sleeve and hood for Isabel's Aran knit and then sew together. I can't wait to finish because I love the pattern and yarn so much. Then 2 adult sized Afghans need to be done for gifts.
Murphy~ Thanks, for getting us started. Sorry that the shingles shot triggered your fibro. Glad you were able to do your resistance bands and get on your stepper. Hopefully it will help loosen up your joints.
Vicki~ So glad you were able to return to the Y to help loosen things up. It must have really been nice to be missed and know that you were in people's good thoughts. Even though your DD must be running herself ragged, she must be so excited to move into the new house. Yes, DD's family is over COVID, thank goodness. Posting regularly does help me to stay accountable and with my eating/drinking habits. But when I have my mood swings there are times that I just don't feel like getting on my laptop; I prefer my laptop to my iPhone.
Cindy~ I don't think I said thank you for the new challenge, THANK YOU! I got the 2 dose shingles shot; I have to say that my arm was really sore for several days, but other than that no other reactions. As far as another surgery, I totally agree with you. After three surgeries on my arm and wrist alone, my hand surgeon had recommended two other surgical procedures that MIGHT resolve the pain in my wrist, no thank you for now.
Cathy~ Yay for the OP day and finishing a book!
Hi Carole!!!
Have a wonderful Sunday!

P.S. I forgot to say for those that enjoy fantasy/supernatural (not evil) TV series, I loved A Discovery of Witches! It was only 4 seasons and I binged watched it on Netflix! I also watched the Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman, I was not that impressed; only 6 episodes also on Netflix.
Okay, now to my knitting!

Hi friends! I had Hyrox camp this morningâit was a good one! I donât think Iâll be able to walk tomorrow! When the new gym opens, itâs going to be so nice. She has the exact same equipment as the Hyrox event âthe other gym had similar. DH set up a big tv outside, using Tylerâs computer and weâre watching football! Iâm pretty comfortable and warm in the sun (itâs chilly, about 67) but our backyard doesnât get much wind. Iâm pretty much over myself eating wise. My shorts are getting tight. Time to buckle down âagain!
Amy, we still use Lexâs exâs Prime account!
Jan, I try to keep in mind what my dad believesâhow can I have fun doing this?! Will you go camping one more time?
Murphy, the 2nd shingle shot got me too. I was so tired the next day and sore arm.
Liz, Iâm so thankful the medicine worked for you. I have a df who has vertigo for years. She goes weekly to get her crystals adjusted.
Vicki, get your shingles shot! I kept meaning to get mineâof course I got shingles before I did. Thank God it was not bad.
Cindy, can they scrape the arthritis away? Maybe you can market your foam knee thing on Amazon!
Cathy, enjoy your pool day! DH closed ours. Itâs supposed to get hot this week too.

Sadly the fibro flare has only gotten worse as the day went on. The sanctuary was really chilly this morning and I think that just made things worse. I've spent the afternoon on the couch. I am not even trying to go to church tonight. I hate like everything to miss tonight because we are getting ready to renovate the sanctuary and they are going to give a presentation about that. But I just can't do it. I'm sure it will pass. I just wish I had some ice cream to make me feel better! LOL Murphy

Hi All!
Happy Sunday or Happy Football day! Yesterday UT won decisively and today, not that I root for them, Cowboys won. Was more interested in listening to Tom Brady commentate. Needs work in my opinion!
Deep consideration being given to the shingle shots...need to plan them around stuff (excuse one) and call to find out if Walmart is still doing them since they closed their clinic (excuse two)...if not, call my plan to find out where I can go. My doctor's office can't so it due to my prescription plan.
Anyway, quiet day. Made a stir fry last night and there was enough left over for dinner tonight. Bird feeders are filled....saw my first hummingbird of the season! The food disappears but it could be evaporating. But maybe a hummingbird or two have been visiting.
Murphy, thanks for getting us started. I'm sorry you had a serious reaction to the shingle shots. Take good care of yourself, rest!! I wish you had ice cream too! Maybe for the future keep a small stash. It is dairy so good for you! Hope you can get a good night sleep and feel better in the morning!
Amy, no worries,đ. Glad the console is working out so well. Dusting is my downfall also. Made a Green Chile Scalloped potato last week...not much different except adding green chiles. After watching House of the Dragon, you might like Rings of Power on Amazon Prime if you are a fan of Lord of the Rings. I can see we might sign up again for Apple. DS and his boss/friend share Netflix and NBA League pass. DS (and me) get the better deal. Loved the photo of the day! Thank you for the calorie/weight info.
Jan, yay for the Trifecta! I think measurements are more important than scale. Muscles weigh more. Courage is a great word and challenges and courage work together. I'm not sure if my HS class will have any more reunions but if they do I hope to make it. My friend who lives in Paris hopes to come also. Our third of the triangle as Liz says, still lives in Springfield,MA so she wouldn't have to travel. You will have a wonderful time! From photos of the/my reunion the women tended to dress up, the men business casual. Some aged well, some not so well. My friend that attended looked the same as when she was in her thirties. She had hair to her waist in high school. In her thirties she went short and never went back. Enough about me. You will have fun!! Maybe bring some tootsie roll pops to stick in your mouth so you stay AF? Or mints! Probably not helpful.
Liz, love Discovery of Witches....read all the books first, haven't finished the series. You might want to read the Lace Reader, set in Salem, Ma. I love your description of greeting those at your reunion, such a perfect description of recognition. It is the word "might" about surgery...ummm, no. So glad that Isabel loved the circus! and that you had a wonderful time with Michael. By the by, I love the photos that you posted several years ago of you, DD and friends dressed as witches....one of my favorites (2010/2011?). Glad you are getting some relief from the vertigo.
Carole, good to see your post. Yay for a good Hydrox! Hope you can walk tomorrow....any grace from work? What a great way to watch football! We have a TV set up on the screened in porch but rarely use it. Maybe move it to the garage. The knee has very little cartilage and scraping the osteo won't work per my knee surgeon who always errs on the side of caution, which I do like about him. The x-rays really did look bad. Going with the thick gel pads but should have thought of doing a patent.
Cathy, enjoy your time with Rosalie and Rosemary, pool time and just being with friends chilling out.
Vicki, how is the packing going for your daughter and family? So glad that Rylee already has a friend at the new school. Is DD working from home? Will the house be closer to DSIL's work? Apologies if you have answered these questions and I just missed it. Will you be able to make it to the Y this week? How is your back?
Planning a work day tomorrow...we shall see, hope springs eternal! I've got to get better about opening mail, not that I have missed anything but the ads pile up. Every once in awhile something important is stuck in with the ads.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week! Hugs, Cindy
